Read up on the Z visa terms. Any and all illegal aliens could apply for a Z visa, and unless DoJ/ICE found a problem in background or health checks in ONE business day, each illegal alien applicant would get immediate permanent residency, with the right to work and to enter/reenter the country. Once here with permanent residency, you can count the hours before they become voters.

I agree with everything you wrote. I just think that they are going to try to ram this down our throats, again (because they think they’ve worn us down and because they’re not too smart) and that they will try to use the faux ‘pro-growth’ argument to sell it. I take solace in the idea that, if the recession goes deep enough, a whole bunch of illegals will self-deport – but that would require their getting turned away from services, which I fear is the opposite of how things will go.

I don’t count on the unions so much (I disagree with you here), since they can be bought off for a tiny, little bit of the trillions that are flying around these days and guarantees of being able to unionize all the new labor.

I do think that the fight will require mass rallies in Washington, this time. And they will have to be big. Maybe more than one. I hope someone is starting a preliminary plan for such a rally, if it does appear to become a necessity.

I’m wondering more and more how we could be expected to do more and be treated any worse.

Agree. But my point was I think the folks here who say we’ve lost the Hispanic vote are flat out wrong. I believe the hispanic community represents a tremendous opportunity for conservatives because they represent the same values…hard work=success, Life is life. end of story, this is a country of opportunity and if you’ve risked your life to get in legally you will resent it if others who try to break the law get a pass, Freedom is worth fighting and dieing for (‘cuz a lot of Hispanics have 1st generation knowledge of this…240 years later, we tend to forget this, even with 9/11 7 years ago…this blows my mind!!!)

Watch out. This time they’re going to try and sell the amnesty as an economic pro-growth policy, claiming that foreclosures, … will all hit ‘main street’ and that we need the instant population growth for taxes and the rest. It is going to be very hard to stop them this time.

Not sure about that pop. One upside to McCain’s loss is that the GOP can now oppose his amnesty nonsense with a clear conscience. Most GOP’ers (Goober and McCain excluded) will oppose for the sake of opposition, if for no other reason. then there are the Dems….

With rising unemployment, amnesty becomes a tougher sell in union households. History shows that immigration becomes very unpopular in economic tough times. An amnesty battle will fracture the Dem majority.

It would be dumb, frankly, for the new Admin to provoke a bipartisan revolt before he even gets around to introducing the stuff he really wants to do–like nationalizing every industry he can get his hands on, raising taxes and shutting down the military. I think they’ll back burner it, waiting for an economic recovery.

Had to burn dinner so went away for a bit. I believe that Hispanics are our conservative future. There are a few of you on this thread tonight, am I wrong? Do the legal hispanics want to vote pro-life? Strong national defense? Personal responsibility? Border security? They are the future of our party and I embrace them.

I don’t like to call myself “hispanic”. I am an American first and I am of Mexican descent, along with Irish, German, Spanish, and Indian. Identity politics are for the democrats.
