Grahamnesty: Hey, I know an issue McCain and Obama could work together on

A sneak preview of Monday’s tete-a-tete. The One’s going to need a point man on the right to help cram amnesty down America’s piehole, isn’t he?
In an interview Friday, Graham said that Obama requested the meeting during a 20-minute phone call that the South Carolina senator described as a “pleasant” discussion about how they could work together effectively…
[Graham] said the energy package drafted by a bipartisan group of 10 senators, including himself, could easily serve as a model for cooperation with the Obama administration — and something that McCain could help lead on.
Graham said that McCain and Obama are philosophically alike on budget reform, Social Security changes, earmark reform and immigration.
“If the administration wants to move forward with immigration again, I stand ready to do that,” Graham said.
He’s actually inviting Obama to reintroduce the issue. Rahm, at least, has more common sense than that. Exit question: What could be more “statesmanlike” than partnering with the worst open-borders cretins among the Democratic majority to push a bill through? Exit answer: I think you know.

Contraception was not legislated in a manner to oppose the other, so that’s not a big deal.
And disagreeing on energy was a net positive for McCain, he could then adjust his view as/if the need required.

Once illegals get legal, they’ll let them bring their immediate family. THAT will be the official death of the GOP.

I am a Cuban American and this amnesty garbage is beyond the pale. I am so annoyed with Graham and McCain with issue.
The majority of Cuban Americans are against amnesty, yet the MSM wants to group us as siding with McCain during the primaries because we were for McCain’s amnesty bill. That is a big fat lie. Most Cuban Americans voted for McCain because he knows communism as he suffered through it in Vietnam.
I wish Romney would have campaigned harder in South Florida.

Thanks. First Link: She wanted tighter borders, took no action on sanctuary cities, and seemingly isn’t a fan of drivers licenses for illegals. McCain also publicly opposes illegal alien drivers licenses and talks about securing the border and “building the damn fence”.
Second Link:
Again, McCain talks about securing the border, too. But that doesn’t mean that you oppose a “pathway to citizenship” because you support fixing the border.

I hope you’re right, and I’ll join the rest of right-minded Americans again in vocally opposing this cause and letting our representatives know that the people are not with them here…. But I fear we may not have the votes this time around. The Democrats have a huge majority in the House, and they’ve got enough fool Republicans who think they can bribe the Hispanic vote by participating (or fear being called racists if they don’t) that if Obama wants this, he’ll get it.
The only way the liberals are going to be able to win reelection after a sure to be disastrous Obama administration is by consolidating power in sneaky, sometimes illegal ways. Importing votes from Mexico is one. Rigging the electorate is another. Continuing to circumvent campaign finance law and using criminal tactics through ACORN and other front groups is too.
The American people do not support the radical hard-left policies that Obama and his comrades in Congress are going to inflict on us. I don’t know how clear that will be by 2010 or even 2012, but they sure as hell aren’t going to be able to pass themselves off as moderates for six to eight years.

Dude (ette)… Alaska doesn’t HAVE the same problems and we get our illegals out FAST!
I don’t expect Palin to understand everything the GOP wants. Hell Look at them now and roll your eyes… but immigration isn’t something you can do as easily up here as you can in the lower 48… due to less people.
I have other links… I am not on my normal computer as I stated earlier. Not worth argueing about… I have had a crappy week and I don’t think argueing about what she has or hasn’t said via what it can stand for is worth raising my BP for.

I wouldn’t expect as many Cubans to be in favor of amnesty as other Hispanics because it’s easier for Cubans to obtain legal status than, say, it is for Mexicans. If they can make it to US shores, they qualify for legal permanent resident status. If a Mexican makes it into the US, they’re considered an illegal alien unless they go through the proper channels.
Sign of the Dollar on November 14, 2008 at 6:55 PM
I understand that Alaska’s top priority isn’t illegal immigration. I wouldn’t expect it to be. But she’s looking at leading the party and possibly running for Prez in 2012. She’ll have to deal with national issues — of which immigration is one — and telling us what her position is would be nice. So far she’s told us that she supports a pathway to citizenship for illegals.
Let’s say for a second that she really doesn’t support it and only said it to help support McCain. Fine. What does she say in 2012 when she tries to use the issue against her opponent? The policy position I said I supported in 2008 because it was politically necessary is actually bad?

Indeed. But I don’t see her not running at some point. Whether it’s on 2012 or 2016, she doesn’t seem to be a woman who limits herself and is happy staying only a certain level of success.
The illegal aliens who are here now can work towards, or as was proposed in the Senate in ‘06 pay for, their way to citizenship. As opposed to, say, attrition through enforcement on a national basis.

My name is John McCain and I approve this message.
HornetSting on November 14, 2008 at 7:17 PM
Funny you mention that, the last “news” story I paid attention to said they were self deporting in pretty extraordinary numbers.
Cindy Munford on November 14, 2008 at 7:19 PM
Yeah, all hispanics don’t have a problem with illegal aliens breaking the law, right? Yeah, that brown skin of ours extends regardless of borders, right? We have no problem with the criminals, the welfare cheats, identity theft, tax theft because we are all hispanics.
WRONG! We are AMERICANS! All AMERICANS should have a problem with lawbreakers, regardless of RACE!
HornetSting on November 14, 2008 at 7:21 PM
Man, I am SCREAMING: do you not see the opportunity to garner the hispanic vote on pro-immigration vs. alien status, pro-life, America as opportunity??? Am I just that stupid??? Don’t answer.

forgot to mention. Last I checked, illegals aren’t supposed to be able to vote. Whaddabout the hispanics that went through hell to become legal. We can’t ignore these noble, very pro-American CITIZENS.
Chewy the Lab on November 14, 2008 at 7:23 PM
Obama will offer McCain a job in his government; McCain will accept. Then, there will be elections for to replace Mccain as a senator for Arizona; the democrats would win it and will give them the 60 senators needed in the senate. Smart, isn’t it?
tocoloro on November 14, 2008 at 7:27 PM
75% of the hispanic in the US voted for Obama with the execption of Cubans and Venezuelans. Cubans voted 65% for McCain, same for Venezuelans. They came smell a communist rat fro far.
tocoloro on November 14, 2008 at 7:29 PM
McCain is going to cause more trouble in the senate than in the cabinet. He’s gonna get back with all his friends across the aisle and get the rest of the RINOS on board to destroy this country. BUT, Arizona has a chance to elect a REAL CONSERVATIVE. This may not be a bad thing. Hopefully the strain and stress is great on McCain and he leaves Washington, with Lindsay Graham still attached to his ass. We can HOPE, anyway.
HornetSting on November 14, 2008 at 7:30 PM
With Americans out of work, and more still losing their jobs, is it really wise to let a cheaper supply of labor into the country? It’s a dead issue for the next two years.
Even if they gave an ‘amnesty’ couldn’t we kick them (Dems) out of office in 2 or 4 years and CHANGE our policy to deny them citizenship? Kind of how Obama’s supposed to reverse Bush’s policies.

thmcbb on November 14, 2008 at 7:34 PM
You need to know that all hispanics are not the same. Cubans love the US as their own country. Mexicans are in the US and hate americans; they are here for monetary reasons and their goals is to try annex back the SW states to Mexico.
tocoloro on November 14, 2008 at 7:34 PM
I absolutely believe that. My parents in San Antonio, Texas live in a neighborhood that has been overrun with illegals from Mexico. They glare at the Americans like we are on THEIR land. They play their music so loud it rattles your windows. They have no courtesy for anyone but themselves. My parents have to call the cops almost daily and yet, Bexar County Sheriff’s Department comes out and DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THE ILLEGALS! It is very obvious that they are illegal, but San Antonio is basically a sanctuary city. It is sick and it is sad. Makes you want to start a revolution.
HornetSting on November 14, 2008 at 7:41 PM
You’re not wrong, we could be doing a lot of things better. We keep coming up with five minute fixes to our issues, they don’t work and then everyone is unhappy. Many people went to a lot of trouble to obtain citizenship. We should probably seek their opinions. And we are all going to have to compromise on some things because it is easy to say it is a black and white issue, it isn’t.
Cindy Munford on November 14, 2008 at 7:42 PM
All I’m saying is that it would take time for an amnesty to take place. You can’t all of a sudden make 12-20 million illegal aliens into American citizens… wasn’t McCain’s plan supposed to take 10 years?
And knowing how efficient and quick government is, I doubt they could get illegals through the entire process before an election. They could grant them residency, but we could probably make it into an election issue to stop the process before citizenship.

Its the “Lets make the Republican Party a Permenant Minority Bill!”. Bring in poor uneducated people from a Socialist country who want to be on our welfare system. Its perfect for Democrats – they will want health care, housing, etc.
And they want us to pay for it.
Great.
winged on November 14, 2008 at 7:49 PM
Or we could use E-verify, go after employers and put them in jail, regardless if it is for only six months and fine them for each illegal, actually enforce immigration law and take away funds from cities that do not cooperate with the federal government, take away benefits and welfare to illegal aliens…..
No more jobs and freebies and their ass will go home. Pronto.
HornetSting on November 14, 2008 at 7:50 PM
I know that this could be total b.s. because anyone can call into a radio show and say anything. A person who supposedly worked for immigration called a show and said they are still processing the folks given amnesty by President Reagan. It’s hard to believe until you go to the Social Security office.

It’ll probably be years before we’ll find out Palin’s real position on illegal immigration. In the meantime we have more immediate concerns.

It cracks me up. If we want to be “politically correct”, why do we only offer SPANISH as an alternative.
Why not Chinese, Russian, German, Swahili, French, Japanese alternatives to English?
Why? Because it would seem spanish speaking illegal aliens are TOO DAMN LAZY TO LEARN ENGLISH! To make it in America, you have to learn the language of the land.
When our immigrant ancestors came over thru Ellis Island, the first thing they did was learn the language so that they could make a living. They loved their new country.
I don’t believe that these illegals LOVE our country. They want to suck on the government teet, bleed us dry, and take over our political system. They don’t want to be citizens. They want our land. They believe it is theirs.
This is sad.

We are Americans, legal ones.
Lawbreaking should be a problem for ALL AMERICANS.
HornetSting on November 14, 2008 at 8:52 PM
Not sure about that pop. One upside to McCain’s loss is that the GOP can now oppose his amnesty nonsense with a clear conscience. Most GOP’ers (Goober and McCain excluded) will oppose for the sake of opposition, if for no other reason. then there are the Dems….
With rising unemployment, amnesty becomes a tougher sell in union households. History shows that immigration becomes very unpopular in economic tough times. An amnesty battle will fracture the Dem majority.
It would be dumb, frankly, for the new Admin to provoke a bipartisan revolt before he even gets around to introducing the stuff he really wants to do–like nationalizing every industry he can get his hands on, raising taxes and shutting down the military. I think they’ll back burner it, waiting for an economic recovery.
james23 on November 14, 2008 at 8:59 PM
Agree. But my point was I think the folks here who say we’ve lost the Hispanic vote are flat out wrong. I believe the hispanic community represents a tremendous opportunity for conservatives because they represent the same values…hard work=success, Life is life. end of story, this is a country of opportunity and if you’ve risked your life to get in legally you will resent it if others who try to break the law get a pass, Freedom is worth fighting and dieing for (’cuz a lot of Hispanics have 1st generation knowledge of this…240 years later, we tend to forget this, even with 9/11 7 years ago…this blows my mind!!!)

Speakup on November 15, 2008 at 12:48 AM
I agree with everything you wrote. I just think that they are going to try to ram this down our throats, again (because they think they’ve worn us down and because they’re not too smart) and that they will try to use the faux ‘pro-growth’ argument to sell it. I take solace in the idea that, if the recession goes deep enough, a whole bunch of illegals will self-deport – but that would require their getting turned away from services, which I fear is the opposite of how things will go.
I don’t count on the unions so much (I disagree with you here), since they can be bought off for a tiny, little bit of the trillions that are flying around these days and guarantees of being able to unionize all the new labor.
I do think that the fight will require mass rallies in Washington, this time. And they will have to be big. Maybe more than one. I hope someone is starting a preliminary plan for such a rally, if it does appear to become a necessity.
progressoverpeace on November 15, 2008 at 1:20 AM
Increased enforcement, and a weak economy are making the theory of self deportation a reality, so lets pass an amnesty quickly before all the illegals go home.

10 years?? Try ONE BUSINESS DAY for the ‘amnesty’ of permanent residency!
Read up on the Z visa terms. Any and all illegal aliens could apply for a Z visa, and unless DoJ/ICE found a problem in background or health checks in ONE business day, each illegal alien applicant would get immediate permanent residency, with the right to work and to enter/reenter the country. Once here with permanent residency, you can count the hours before they become voters.
fred5678 on November 16, 2008 at 3:39 AM
McCain became our nominee because a lot of people could not forgive Romney from being pro-abortion to switching to being pro-life. Apparently, Romney was not going to get any forgiveness even when he said “everybody in this race that I know has changed their mind on certain positions, and they’ve done so as they gained more experience.”
So, we now have an inept Republican Party and a Democratic President that sees nothing wrong in letting a baby that survived a botched abortion die in a utility closet.
Even with all this, I doubt those same people would see fit to forgive Romney again.
