Unbelievable: GOP governors sniping at Palin over press conference

posted at 5:55 pm on November 13, 2008 by Allahpundit

To my fellow bloggers: The next time you get an e-mail from someone saying it’s time to organize a conservative netroots, bear in mind that it’s these morons, by and large, whom that person wants you to support. The same people who couldn’t muster a judgment on the bailout independent of Nancy Pelosi being a big meanie, the same people who can’t organize a press conference without having it descend into backbiting and recriminations.

Some Republican governors tell CNN they were not particularly happy with the way the Republican Governors Association press conference was executed Thursday, saying that they agreed to go as a show of GOP governors’ unity — but they ended up feeling like silent Palin supporters, since it was clearly a press conference called for her.

The GOP governors spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity.

One called it awkward: “I’m sure you could see it on some of our faces.”

Another Republican governor eyeing a presidential run in 2012 told CNN the event was “odd” and “weird,” and said it “unfortunately sent a message that she was the de facto leader of the party.”

This isn’t about Palin, it’s about basic competence on messaging. The McCain camp couldn’t manage it and now the governors can’t either. Who’s left?

Blowback

First of all, I have trouble believing that Republican Governors spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity.

Second, I can’t really blame them if it’s true. The press conference did appear to be a Praise Palin fest and they appeared as if they’re pushing for her to be the party’s next leader.

Does she excite a section of the GOP base? Sure. But 4.1 million fewer Republicans turned out this year than in 2004. An overwhelming majority of Americans said she’s not ready to be president. She bumbled on basic interview questions.

Is a bit different than the spin you are putting on it

William Amos on November 13, 2008 at 6:12 PM

The God bit that Palin was talking about is from her interview with Greta. She said if God opens a door for her that she will take it and pursue it. From a saying that many religious people use, if God closes a door he opens another… And Palin was saying that her life is in God’s hands. Yes, most Christians believe that their lives are in God’s hands.

Stupid, egotistical, cry-babys…

right2bright on November 13, 2008 at 6:14 PM

Why do people feel the need to take what she says about God and exaggerate it? She did not say she would run if God told her to. She said if God opened the door she hoped she would be able to walk through it. That is what Christians believe. Why is that so hard for people to understand? The same thing happened to Bush when he said he prayed about Iraq before making his decision. They took that and ran with Bush invaded Iraq because God told him to. He didn’t realy hear a voice people. No matter how many nuts tell you he said he did.

Unlike the vast majority of HotAir readers (I suspect) these people have worked with her closely over the past few months and probably have a lot more insight into what makes her tick than her grassroots fans who are going on a few prepared speeches and campaign surrogates in the media.

I dont mind the governors whining about the media. But dammit dont whine TO the media they will put a negative spin on it.

If these governors are too stupid not to know to take things to the media and expect this kind of garbage then they are dumber than I thought.

I agree. And after watching the video, I can see why they might have felt “awkward.”

Crist is a big wuss. Pawlenty is a nice guy, but a snoozer. I like Rick Perry. I like Bobby Jindal. Who are the rest of them? Did anyone notice?

Perry’s a snoozer as well if you this Texas resident. Better than a democrat, but that’s not a big bar to hurdle.

The original quote was:

Sorry but while she excites the base the base are a fraction of the US.

To which the response was:

When she got 82% approval rating, your an instant troll.

To which I responded:

That’s fallen to 62% since she entered the national scene and that was as of July.

I wasn’t aware that it was strictly amongst Republicans. I guess I was confused Apologies.

Ares dont misinterpret what sarah said
William Amos on November 13, 2008 at 6:12 PM

Why would I? I like her! I’m just saying it doesn’t play well to a big bunch of people…

Combine that with her inability to speak coherently on prime time and she’s a liability.

People don’t do devout in big numbers, sorry.

Ares on November 13, 2008 at 6:18 PM

Guys,

I repeat. Nobody was complaining about Palin. They were all complaining about the Media turning a joint news conference into a Palin event.

Actually that’s not true. The press conference was originally booked as Sarah Palin’s press conference and she delivered remarks. I guess the organizers’ decision to promote it as a Palin conference pissed off the other governors and they went on stage anyway.

CanadianGuy on November 13, 2008 at 6:18 PM

One of those “new hot future governors” will align with Palin for her VP, one of them will be smart enough. Jindal?

The media hacks will never hold Barry Barracks accountable for anything he does in the next four years. Ignoring the facts helped him win the election and the same tactic will keep him in good favor while in office.

They have been working the “Broken Republican Party” angle for several days now. Like dogs with bones, they won’t let it go for four more years.

They are more power hungry now than I have ever seen them. But they forget we hold the power. We hold the remotes. Teach them a lesson.

I was actually referring to her approval in Alaska.

amerpundit on November 13, 2008 at 6:09 PM

There isn’t a gov at that conference who wouldn’t kill for Sarah’s approval ratings even now.

bdestini on November 13, 2008 at 6:19 PM

She is on record saying she might run in 2012 if God tells her to.

Come on.

Ares on November 13, 2008 at 5:58 PM

You are the definition of stupid…she said basically if God opened a door.
A standard belief of most all Christians. God opens doors, we have the free will, and hopefully the discernment to walk through those doors.
Here is my prayer: God give me the strength not to strangle or do harm to people like Ares who distort Your Word for their own personal gain. And thank You Lord for giving me the ability to see through their foolishness.
