Report: Special, special lady being considered for Secretary of State

Rahm as chief of staff, Podesta as head of the transition team, Summers or Rubin at Treasury, and now Her Majesty at State?

Why’d they nominate Hopenchange instead of her if we’re only going to get Clinton retreads anyway?

There’s increasing chatter in political circles that the Obama camp is not overly happy with the usual suspects for Secretary of State these days and that the field may be expanding somewhat beyond Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.), Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) and maybe former Democratic senator Sam Nunn of Georgia.

There’s talk, indeed, that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) may now be under consideration for the post. Her office referred any questions to the Obama transition; Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor declined to comment.

As much as I’d prefer a SoS who helped designate the Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization and who speculated publicly about possibly having to nuke Iran to a tool who played useful idiot to the mullahs at Davos by badmouthing Bush, why would Obama have an issue with Kerry or Richardson as frontrunners? If she stays in the Senate, she’s bound to end up as a point man on health care anyway, which should be enough to placate the PUMAs ahead of 2012. Naming Richardson, who’s got more experience than she does, would help him lock up Latinos, and naming Kerry would signal that he’s ready to pass “the global test.” Naming Hillary achieves nothing, really. Exit question: Anything to this at all?

Evil Cackles!! The Clintons always win.

Illinidiva on November 13, 2008 at 4:03 PM

Nah. Can’t see it happening. There is little incentive for either to offer/accept the position.

I read this too fast. I thought you wrote Clinton retards

Best laugh I had all day, even if you didn’t write it.

Maybe he wants to clear the seat for Michelle in 2016.

My prediction, there will be a revolving door in Obama’s cabinet…. it’ll be impossible to keep track.

Obamalama Deprogrammer on November 13, 2008 at 4:05 PM

So when is Gennifer Flowers’ name gonna pop up? How ’bout Lewinski? This Change sure feels a lot like the ’90s.

If I pop in some Pearl Jam and drink a Fruitopia, I wonder if I can reverse my student loan debt.

robblefarian on November 13, 2008 at 4:05 PM

I’d rather see her as Majority leader. (Actually I’d rather see her as Minority leaser, but that’s water under the dam…)

oddball on November 13, 2008 at 4:05 PM

It gets her out of the Senate so that she does not play Maverick to Obama’s Bush.

At least she has the ability and temperament to face down Putin.

Realist on November 13, 2008 at 4:05 PM

Isn’t [The Haughty] John Kerry [Who Served in Viet Nam] the other option? I mean this looks to be a lose-lose no matter how you toss it.

In the mind of Obama, no one messes with Obama and gets away with it (in his mind). Therefore, Hillary may be toyed with, but she won’t get anything for free.

Trial balloon – a bone to the press and blogs to keep them chewing on something new instead of talking about Obama.

Breaking News:

Richardson should get it for his betrayal of the Clintons (in the library, with the pipe) in the primaries.

Though, John Kerry running around the world announcing himself as “John Kerry, Secretary of State, I served in Vietnam” would be amusing.

Nothing to it, I think.

elections have consequences, on the bright note he leaving would leave governor patterson in the position of filling her seat. This in turn would create another seat democrats would have to defend in 2010. Blue or not, repubs can win in New York (Rudy G). At the very least we can make the Democrats squander time and resources. Any way I am skeptical, would Obama really want her in a position of that much power?

This is really the best suggestion I’ve heard on the Dem side. Hillary is so much better prepared than Obama it’s not even funny and I would welcome her as a top advisor.
While I voted for McCain, I think that the Clintons are acceptable in this area. I do not think they will make the mistake of dismissing and ignoring islamists again and they are not similar to the nutcases that usually surround him.

Obama has to pay her off somehow, either in the Senate or out of the country. He would get both of them for the price of one as SoS. That might not be so bad. Bill let Osama get away in the 1990’s so that might go over big with the average suicide bomber.

Kerry would be beyond “amusing”, he’d be hilariously embarrassing, to the U.S., and the next pres., and the O camp knows this, just as does Mrs. Heinz.

On the plus side, Hillary knows where Bosnia is. She’s been there already, after all.

Rahm as chief of staff, Podesta as head of the transition team, Summers or Rubin at Treasury, and now Her Majesty at State?

Aside from Rahm that actually looks fairly promising from a policy point of view. Summers/Rubin on economic policy and Hillary on foreign policy seems reasonable enough to me, unless its all just window dressing.

Not sure I agree with the idea that “naming Richardson, who’s got more experience than she does, would help him lock up Latinos.” I don’t think any first-generation Latinos, or second- for that matter, have any idea that Bill Richardson is even alive.

I think if he’s looking to lock up the Latino vote, he’d go for Hillary. Latinos would much rather see her in a prominent role than the Latino with the Whitest name in history.

Possibly because the Clintonites are the only Democrats around with recent White House and executive branch experience. It wouldn’t surprise me though that once Obama is up and running you see a gradual replacement of Clintonites in senior positions with Obamiods who have been promoted from junior positions in his administration who have gained on the job training.
