Perhaps…. prospective voters. Huey Long promised a chicken in every pot and every pot hole filled. The GOP promised social security would be privatized and the budget balanced.
Plenty of potholes still in Louisiana, no chicken in my pot, social security is the same and the budget is far from balanced.
But Obama gets elected and you want to act like campaign promises are sacrosanct blood oaths that are imminent.
Don’t live scared.

They have exercised their right to freedom of speech and expression. They have not impressed many people with their words.
You want to froth at the mouth and cry about how the Kos kids are mean or whatever go ahead – it just makes you look like them and serves no real purpose in regaining seats in the house and senate.
The price they paid was in the 2002 and 2004 elections they lost seats and the WH. Historically presidents will lose seats in the house and senate to the oppostion party. Bush was the first pres in about a hundred years to do that. Why? Because the Deaniacs in their orange hats acted like jerks and children, giving the voters no inclination to reward that behavior.

A Challenge to Bradkey
You continually say things along the lines of “Obama didn’t really mean what he said”.
I think that leaves us with two choices
1) Obama is using the Alinsky method of saying anything necessary to get elected which makes obama a serial prevaricator
2) He really means what he is saying and the people here are correct in their worries
Which is is (1) or (2)??
CHALLENGE 2.
Let’s assume that Obama wasn’t talking out his posterior about the service requirement.. We can see soom evidence for this with the choice of Rahm Emannuel as COS.
Tell us Why this would be needed?? We already have organizations such as the Civil Air Patrol and Coast Guard Auxiliary on the civilian side. We have the hightly trained NAtional guard on the other… What purpose would such a massive organization server
CHALLENGE #3
There have been similar instances in history.. The little octobrists, the young pioneers, the hitler youth, The cuban system. Tell us exactly what safeguards there will be that this will not be used as an indoctrination or police force.
Sorry but “He didn’t really mean what he said” is worth chicken droppings. Answer the three questions above and I may change my mind about this.

Fair has nothing to do with it – what matters is mounting an effective strategy that will gain GOP seats in 2010. It is my opinion that obsessing over the unknown is not the way.

Bradky,
I’m curious why anyone regards his bizarre statement as a “campaign promise” as you put it, that would help him get elected. I found his supporters – especially the drones who showed up to worship him – as incapable of rational thought, and doubt that anyone in the room even heard what he said … while they screamed and cheered their approval.
I can’t imagine anyone with a functioning brain voting for a politician who made such a creepy and absurd claim.
This is a sadly predictable knee-jerk response in defense of this leftist jerk, and offense against conservative critics of him.

You may be right, but it is also possible that you may be wrong. We won’t know for certain for two years or so. I think we will have serious reasons for concern in 3-6 months if this is what we fear. Too many things have come together that look rather strange and the supposed explanations for them are rather lame. Given the sort of student the schools and higher institutes are graduating, or not graduating, it is not unrealistic to think of historical parallels.
It is too early to know anything for certain, but we should keep an eye out.

You must be suffering from a form of grief. You are in the first stages of the recovery process. Denial that Obama is a Marxist sack of $hit. The fact that he even SUGGESTED this security force tells you the types he is reaching out for. It may be a trial balloon for this term, but it helps him gauge support for the idea and creates a base of support to build on.
Look, every time Obama suggest a course of action think the teachings of Saul Alinsky in “Rules for radicals”.
“”There’s another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevski said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future.”
You have been fooled! It’s time for all conservatives to grow a pair and judge Obama on his actions and proposals and not the bull$hit rhetoric he uses to hypnotize the ignorant masses.

How so?
I have always felt that the reason America exploded in a more overt way than Oz or “Eh” was because our liberty from the motherland was revolutionary not evolutionary and as such we were truly unfettered to go as far as we could possibly desire from the start. Our sibling lands in staying near mom’s apronstrings into early adulthood rather than rebelling as a seventeen year old psycho had smoother transitions but also a “more controlled” set of expectations for their own potential. Had we somehow succeeded in getting Canada to come with us in the 1700s I suspect we’d be an even greater nation than we are now just from the standpoint of raw resources we’d have been exploiting.
In my many travels to Canada I have noticed, admittedly mostly in the east” an attitude of “we are as far as we are gonna likely go eh so let’s divvy the pie more fairly.”
That was not until recently an American trait…..

You’re scared, I can tell because you have allowed yourself to be misled. The narrative on Obama’s true nature is just being written. Some days he looks like an idiot, some the complete opposite.
Obama is an empty suit in his past accomplishments. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a threat. He is a threat and that is why he has carefully crafted his record in taking very few serious political risks.
So both statements are true and you’d be better served to understand that fact. Other wise you will continued to be fooled and you just might find yourself marching nut-to-butt in Obama’s brown shirt army. AND LOVING IT.

any pro-gun union donk who voted for this man should have their heads examined.

Yeah that is the east. They also have the remnants of a snob thing going as well, in which the west is seen as uncouth and not as yet capable of offering any opinions to the nation. Kinda like New Englander but less obnoxious.
It is changing slowly because most of the population and economic growth is in the west.

I have thought about it. The people who haven’t bought into the “OMG OBAMAHITLER” the minute they heard it. I’ve explained why I think he said it, and you’ve ignored me. I see no point in repeating what you appear to be uninterested in reading.

This election loss has created a serious onset of grief in these folks. They just aren’t thinking clearly. Give them time…they’ll will eventually be able to accept the reality that we are in for over the next four years and might even start being an asset instead of a pain in the ass.
csdeven on November 14, 2008 at 1:58 AM
You haven’t explained who it would appeal to. Have you considered who that might be?
Jim Treacher on November 14, 2008 at 1:58 AM
You’re absolutely right. The guy is Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Boris and Natasha, Dr. Evil, and Shredder all mixed into one guy who makes Einstein look uneducated.
How could I be so blind?
MadisonConservative on November 14, 2008 at 1:58 AM
You are not complicated, and I agree with sven10077 on the joint military efforts.
Canada is still hanging on to that British mommy apron. When she and Australia let go of it, we can talk.
I’m with you on your cries, for sure.

Man, I wish I could deny that! Lions led by donkeys!
sharrukin on November 14, 2008 at 1:58 AM
Heh I love this “we are the last rational conservatives” meme from him, JetBoy, and SpecialKY while they are also on this “you guyz are de narcissitz in thinking ONLY YOU CAN SEE THE TRUTH!” thing….
In “seeing the truth” in taking him at his word we are at least paying attention to what the serial liar says….
better that than being blindsided by “Affirmitive Action Kendo with all new racial guilt release grip” suddenly showing “why yes he couldn’t drop the murder rate but he did organize the murderers like back in Chi-Town”…..
sven10077 on November 14, 2008 at 2:00 AM
I beg your pardon?
If the fearful are the ones thinking rationally about the situation and the brave are those planning for the next American Revolution 9 days since the last election and over two months before the guy is sworn in, then I guess I’m fearful.
Except I’m not. You have a habit of challenging the integrity, courage, and mental health of those you disagree with. If it comforts you in your fanatical loser rage, so be it.

If we ever kill this global warming cult’s hold on the pursestrings and regs Alberta will be the engine of the free world once the oil sands get going….
Team Anglia forever!

Rational one, the audience was the young, and the dumb.
Schadenfreude on November 14, 2008 at 2:02 AM
I love that I’ve been claimed to be saying I’m the “last rational man/conservative” and have as yet said no such thing, nor implied any such thing.
MadisonConservative on November 14, 2008 at 2:04 AM
Calm down. As we both know, he’s going to be the President of the United States. He’s going to have quite a bit of power. He’s said some things that are unusual for a modern presidential campaign, and this is one of them. This isn’t some campus leftist we’re talking about. This guy’s going to be sitting in the Oval Office. You don’t think we should discuss his campaign promises? We should just dismiss every single one of them out of hand, no matter how they coincide with his other stated beliefs he’s tried to cover up? On the one hand he’s a lying Marxist, but on the other we shouldn’t worry about it because hey, what’s the worst that could happen?
Jim Treacher on November 14, 2008 at 2:05 AM
Why would it appeal to them?
Jim Treacher on November 14, 2008 at 2:06 AM
I will repeat this once for you, because I typically respect your opinion. After this, either read my posts, or stop asking questions I’ve answered:
MadisonConservative on November 14, 2008 at 2:06 AM
“Most average people.” Well, you’ve certainly nailed down the specifics, MC.
Jim Treacher on November 14, 2008 at 2:07 AM
The young are idealistic, and Germany has such a program today.
I can’t speak for the dumb, and you will understand.
