You are at a minimum giving that vibe, I had thought you and my repartee had established that while I am grouping you with KY and JetBoy I do not think you are the closeted moonbat KY is or the denier JetBoy is. MC if I had ANY fgaith in Bambi respecting even the most basic of the BoR I’d be preaching restraint like you are. I do not….what bothers me about him is his follwers’ penchant for misusuing state govt. resources even before he is in power to do things that are “beneficial” to him like hte Joe the Plumber “plumbing” and the various Secretary of State follies on a state by state basis….add in ACRON “The Bambi Youth” that already exist and the “Bambi Truth Squads” and you may see while disagreeing why a lot of us are in “Project WideAwake” mode….or maybe not I dunno…

It’s hard to calm down when I keep getting accused of telling people to “not discuss” anything other than the Obama=Hitler bravosierra.
I have repeatedly agreed with people that he is a Marxist. However, everyone keeps failing to explain to me how he’s is an intelligent, cunning man. Ideologies mean very little when you’re a halfwit.

The thing about Obama that bothers me the most isn’t the statements about the CNSF. It’s the fact that no matter where he is, and no matter where he goes you will find him in the company of extreme radicals. It is not just a consequence of University life, or Chicago politics.
He spent 20 years in a Black Liberation Theology church and for a politician that is rather strange. It wasn’t ‘the church to go to’ for connections. He could have gone to others but he chose not to. He finds the remnants of the Weather underground and befriends them. He gravitates towards the radical Muslims and Nation of Islam.
For a politician these are strange choices if he isn’t a true believer.
sharrukin on November 14, 2008 at 2:11 AM
So Obama called for a civilian security force because it’s what all the kids are talking about, but he’s not really going to go through with it because boy oh boy, that would be nuts. I admit that I am confused.
Jim Treacher on November 14, 2008 at 2:13 AM

sven10077 on November 14, 2008 at 2:13 AM
You are scared. You are in a form of denial. Like I pointed out…Obama is both an empty suit and a threat. His past political accomplishments are null and void. But that was by choice. A very well crafted image he created to do just what it did….lull the morons to sleep. He has had a silent agenda the entire time and even though he does not have the executive experience to pull off these socialist proposals, he does have his very own Edgar Bergen that will use stagecraft to make it look like Obama is actually being the chief executive.
You seem incapable of putting the two concepts together. I understand that. It is terrifying to know that this type of person was actually elected to be the most powerful person on the planet. But he will be the president and you have to accept that fact so you can join us in watching him and getting the word out.
And I’m not insulting you for being scared. I have been scared before, but I grew a pair of huge stainless steel balls and I am up for any fight with anyone at any time.
csdeven on November 14, 2008 at 2:13 AM
Well, give it the ol’ college try.
He’s smart enough to go from complete obscurity to President of the United States in 2 years. And even if you chalk it up to blind luck and thuggery and whatnot, how does that take away the power he’ll have?
Jim Treacher on November 14, 2008 at 2:15 AM
I don’t talk in vibes. I talk straight. Take me at my word, or don’t bother to read.
Then there is where we simply disagree. While I don’t view the guy to have any sense of cunning or acumen, I don’t see him as stupid. The guy is a politician. In America, your job is in our hands. In 2010, the Democrats will be reminded of that when they have to start packing up their crap. He lives for his celebrity and his image. He’s going to do what he has to in order to preserve it.
As I said, I guess we will have to agree to disagree, but I repeat my advisement to stop giving this guy so much credit. We just spent all these months talking about what a naive bimbo he is, so what happened?
MadisonConservative on November 14, 2008 at 2:16 AM
You are confusing denial with skepticism. Big difference. Denial means I won’t accept it if hard evidence is provided, skepticism means I will. Typical political bravosierra during a campaign speech does not pass muster for hard evidence. What he does as president will.
MadisonConservative on November 14, 2008 at 2:18 AM
OK, nite folks. Take it easy on our scaredy-cats. They were with us once and they will be again. All you have to do is keep pointing out that Obama IS a threat, but is also an empty suit when it comes to his political record and executive experience. Obama is the perfect storm for radicals. He is committed to the ideal, clean enough to get elected, and gullible enough to not try and do much on his own.
THAT is why he is a threat.
csdeven on November 14, 2008 at 2:20 AM
We don’t know if he’ll go through with this, or many things he said.
He proved that he could say/do anything, and would get a pass. Now we must hold the media accountable for not noticing, and him too, for talking out of more orifices than Bill Clinton.

In a Paris Hilton society, the concept of a pretty, silver tongued minority winning the biggest popularity contest in the world is far from unfathomable. Not to diminish any of their intellects or political abilities, but in the last two elections, the handsome, friendly cowboy beat Lurch and the cardboard standup who never shuts up about global warming. In the two before that, the sax-playing good ol’ boy beat the guy who threw up in Japan and the old guy who speaks of himself in the third person.
Don’t overanalyze this. Sadly, we’ve become a shallow nation. That’s just how it is.
It doesn’t. I’m not saying it does. However, the question is whether he’ll be able to wield that power skillfully. That sword is double-edged, and the guy has the least experience in holding a blade then we’ve seen in a looooong time.

Jim is right… we are left with these burning questions because it’s not just this one “civilian Force” comment, but a series of things/statements that have never been properly investigated and/or reported… this president -elect has been so devoid of clear and precise details of his plans and policies..and the media hasn’t lifted a finger to actually vet this guy.. we get the hope and change mantra… we are the change we’ve been looking for … we want to increase peace corps and in the breath after, we need a well funded civilian security force..
Peace Corps does not sound like Civilian Security Force in the least.. Peace Corps or the other organizations listed in the “explanation” have nothing to do with security on any level..
America already has security forces.. they are called police, border patrol and national guard, so why the new terminology?
let’s not forget that Obama is an attorney, he chooses his words very carefully, so why do we not know what he said with certainty, who is the security force, what is it’s purpose and who or what is it providing security to( or from)?
Some may call it derangement… I call it drawing conclusions, using the best information provided because of the ambiguity of most of Obama’s statements, the lack of record he has, the company he keeps, etc. It is not unreasonable.

MC he is likely a fullblown Commie at heart that is the punchline of “dreams of my father”…..
dear old dad was a commie.
Barry is cagey enough to know that a commie who has severely outed himself could not even get the donk nomination so he votes “present” a lot on his rise then spends ALL his Federal Senate time campaigning despite saying “no I will not be ready”…..

We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set.
We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.
“Does that sound like a force that could kick down your door in the middle of the night and haul you off to a Gulag or concentration camp?”
Lets see, hum a civilian national security force, as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded as the US Military,
Hum
I gotta say, yes it does.
Hey , lets just look at Joe the Plumber, he ask a question of a public servant and for that “crime” the state of Ohio went hog wild investigating his a$$ to find out something they could arrest him on.
Not finding anything they “the state of Ohio” released his confidential info to the press.
Now ask yourself, what would the state of Ohio do if say they had the power equal to the US military and were allowed too act under the color of authority?
How bout just admitting Obama said something incredibly stupid and just get him to retract that whole plan.

And we’re going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy.
Uhm, Bush already double the size of the Peace Corps shortly after 9/11
The problem is there’s not enough “volunteers” for Peace to fill the ranks!
Strange but true.
Apparently those who like to talk about peace ONLY want to talk about it, they’re not willing to actually do something about it.
If he was talking about the Peace Corps why not just say “Peace Corps”?
Or just repeal the 1878 Posse Comitatus act.

Some analysis is in order.
A civilian national security force! Who is to be secured and from what? Why are the doers of good deeds for their fellow less fortunate citizens referred to as a security force? The use of the word security is ominous.
Just as strong and as well funded as the US military? Why would a volunteer organization need to be as well funded as an organization that defends America from external enemies?
Even if the US military is severely defunded why is this going to cost billions of dollars? Is this an attempt to make even more people dependent upon the largesse of the state?
And what of those who currently volunteer for through religious and social service organizations? Will their volunteerism be rewarded in the same manner as Obama’s secular volunteers? Or will they be encouraged to abandon their volunteer organizations and become dependent upon the state in order to volunteer.
Won’t a national security force be subject to the same problems as beset most government organizations: systemic organizational incompetence, political favoritism, lack of accountability, cost overruns and abuse of the taxpayer? Who in their right mind would want to Fannie Maeicize (sic) volunteerism?
Is it ever wise to have the state do what the private citizenry is currently doing?
Isn’t this a typical leftist approach? A grandiose scheme with no thought whatsoever to the negative effects of the policy being proposed.
This sounds about as sensible as Obama’s brilliant proposal to concede Iraq to Al Qaeda and Iran. No we didn’t put it in those terms is but that is exactly what would have happened had he been in charge.

I don’t think most Americans are going to like the idea of a civil defense force. In fact I am wondering where he thinks he will get these people and how he will pay for this craziness.
I do have ODS, but I don’t think this is about some gulag. I think it is about creating yet another government agency with dubious purpose.
I just hope that Obama is a one termer. I think Republicans need to concentrate their efforts on that goal.

I haven’t read through every comment yet – but holy god do ya’ll sleep at night anymore?
.
Here’s my feelings on the random Obama Doctrines that our new leader has thrown about the information highway like toxic confetti.
.
After Chuck Schumer’s “simple letter about IndyMac” that toppled the first piece in our very own Rube-Goldberg-from-hell effect I think we can all agree that when people at a certain level of power say a thing, it matters.
.
Obama said it. He has not bothered to clarify it. He hired Emanuel who wrote the manual on how to do it. His website detailed out how it would work.
.
We have all seen how blindly devoted his followers are – and there is no disputing the fact that they would do anything for him. Does he understand how all of this can be harnessed and used to his own political future and advantage? Are you kidding me? Of course he does.
.
The man inspired tens of millions of dollars in donations from all over the world and did it in a way that will never be investigated. These are not ordinary times and this is not your average run of the mill president. What he says matters because he has the power to make it happen. Ignore his words at your own expense.

Some of you guys are confusing naivete with stupidity. They aren’t the same. He isn’t as smart as he thinks he is though…
The communists, like Obama, are not stupid, but their ideas are born of corruption, and those that actually believe those ideas are superior are naive. At the most they are simply less intellectual folks.
So where Obama fits in my mind is here; he’s smart enough to know (especially now) that he can hoodwink enough Americans into voting for him, where he will work to consolidate as much power on his plate as he can for as long as he can. If your rights get in the way, it’ll be time to dance. Dance around the system while trying to achieve his goal AND corrupting and changing the system all at the same time. His goal won’t be to change this country into a marxist dictatorship. His goal will be to pave the way for that to happen in the future.
The house and senate aren’t even that sophisticated. The leftists there are already corrupt. All they want is a more time in office to suck the green out of everyone’s wallets so they can use it to secure…more time in office. If playing ball with the sock puppet in chief is what it takes, they’ll do it. They’d even throw Pelosi under the buss to buy themselves more time (2010 preview).
So is he evil? I don’t believe in such things. Is he corrupt. Absofreakinglutely. Is he worthy of additional scrutiny? Hells yes, every.step.of.the.way.

Why is Factcheck.org sarcastic? When I look something up in a “non-partisan” reference manual – like the dictionary, as an example – I don’t expect to be patronized.
You can pretty much bank on Factcheck.org flat out lying to you or presenting loose facts in a misleading way (if you’re lucky.) For the most part, you get “because Obama said so.”
It’s the reference world equivalent of the Linux help desk.
Newbie: Can you please help me configure my sound card and modem? I read the manual, and followed the instructions, but both piece of hardware still refuse to work.
Linux elitist: Go away or I will replace you with a simple shell script, retard.
Newbie: All I did was ask for help, and if this is how you treat those who want to learn about Linux, then you shouldn’t be surprised if people go back to using Windows or Mac OS-X.
Linux elitist: Well go back to crashing your Windoze, a$$hole.

I have only read the last page of this thread but the one thing that I would like to point out is the boldness of the Obama supporters. If you look in the headlines and read the story about the 14 year old girl’s experiment in a Chicago school with McCain/Obama shirts, you will see that Obama supporters are embolden to intimidate. Although not specifically attached to Mr. Obama, what about the many people unhappy with Prop 8 decision, are they practicing normal political discourse? I don’t know if it will qualify as an indicator but it will be interesting to see how the new President handles these incidents or if they even rise to his notice.

petefrt on November 14, 2008 at 9:27 AM
I’m not clear on this issue since I can find not a single report from anyone in the MSM about the rumored Writ of Certiorari, and what it means in all practicality. Maybe Brooks Jackson can clear it up. /s.
Probably, but what is not being talked about is the fact that Obama wants to force involuntary servitude on our children beginning in Middle School. He plans to accomplish this goal by forcing schools to integrate “service” into their curricula or lose federal funding.
No doubt the a Dem congress will be only too happy to comply with this indoctrination program and usurpation of parental rights, at which point it I would imagine that it will end up in the Courts.
Memo to Brooks Jackson:
This is not a rumor, it’s all laid out at his campaign website. There’s also some intriguing stuff in there about Seniors who participate in “Citizen Service” getting a “continuation of their health benefits” and so forth.

Anything Obama said or promised during the primaries was null and void in the general election.
Anything Obama said or promised during the general election is null and void once he becomes President.
Obama has surrounded himself with Clinton Democrats.
Clinton people will be pushing the Clinton agenda. (They believe they were very successful while Clinton was in office.) And if Hillary is given any kind of cabinet position (which I doubt, but might be given one just to keep her from running against Obama in 2012) people will talk about this being the 3rd term of Bill Clinton.

I think the reason many people are spooked is… while the military is sworn to uphold the Constitution (instead of the President who is merely a commander), a civilian security force has no such binding obligations.
dominigan on November 14, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Interesting article, along with the YouTube video about he Negro Project. However, while you make a certain point, you diminish its significance. Abortions are case-by-case choices made by individual citizens, not by government or military order. How is that comparable to martial law rounding up millions of people and sending them to death camps? Sure, the numbers are ugly, but the circumstances are starkly different.
MadisonConservative on November 14, 2008 at 12:02 PM
And I do not gloss over this. I point out explicitly that people walk into the abortion clinics VOLUNTARILY.
Just because the circumstances ARE starkly different, it does not mean that we, the people of the United States, have no culpability in all of this. Our relative silence about this speaks volumes about our culture and about who we are.
My collie says:
CyberCipher on November 14, 2008 at 12:13 PM
First of all, abortion has continued to be a constroversial topic with plenty of opponents for years since Roe V. Wade.
Secondly, I’m pretty sure Supreme Court decision overrules majority rule. So how exactly are American citizens culpable for the decisions of nine old lawyers?

To MC and JetBoy,
Do you know the handy thing about an empty suit with a lot of Charisma? Really easy to manipulate. Think on that a bit. Who are this man’s benefactors? Who is running congress? If he’s really a lightweight, who’s pulling his strings or who influences him the most?
Bambi doesn’t have to be the next Stalin to do great harm. He just has to be open to adopting the policies of someone on the extreme left. And I think he’s long associations with Wright and Ayers prove that to be the case.
That in mind, and given his rather spectacular rise, he’s either A) quite a bit more canny than we think he is or B) either had help getting there or C) will at least be quite open to suggestion when he does.
Neither of those options make me terribly comfortable with the Patterico/Cap’n Ed “Obama is a good man, chill out ODS sufferers” approach.
As an aside, I’ll agree that he’ll say almost anything to get elected, but his service program before they changed the website? That’s not exactly something your average slacker college student is going to like – particularly the ones that work part or full time already. So I don’t see how that qualifies as the usual election time pandering. Plus it came out … after he won the election, I believe. Strange, that.

…and not because of his position about abortion, but because of the economy and because McCain was a weak candidate with a weak campaign.

sharrukin: “The thing about Obama that bothers me the most isn’t the statements about the CNSF. It’s the fact that no matter where he is, and no matter where he goes you will find him in the company of extreme radicals. It is not just a consequence of University life, or Chicago politics.”
True.
Why is it that everything Obama says is to shrug off, diminish, deny or change something else he said a few days or weeks before. All I can see are the wavy fingers and oh-so-soothing-nicotine-baratone talkingtalkingtalkig around whatever it is the other party brought up about one of his stupidities.
This country needs to get its head out of its arse before this marionette’s little play brownshirts start knocking on people’s doors.
And if you think that’s extreme, what do you think Joe the Plumber’s opinion about it is? or Sarah Palin’s? or the newslady who dared to ask Slow Joe a challenging question?

Fact Check: more lefty propaganda.
I heard what he said and it didn’t sound like he was talking about the Peace Corp. If he was, he’s an idiot because just like the UN’s ‘peace-keeping force’, our civilian force would accomplish exactly nothing. (Maybe this is their answer to missionary activities.)
Obama is smart enough to surround himself by people who are smart enough and rich enough to get him elected. However, he isn’t good enough to…spit on.
If I didn’t care so darn much about this country, all this would be funny.

I would like to hear from someone who can explain why creating a National Paramilitary police force is different than, say, uhmmm, creating a National Paramilitary Police Force.
Just might get a Triple Lindy with a twist in spin award!

CC, I always love your collie’s comments but now I’m doubly amazed; not only is he a pundit but can read as well. Wow.
Big John on November 14, 2008 at 3:44 PM
He can read? HA! As if that was the ONLY thing that I have to deal with. He’s writing a book. He told everyone here at HotAir that he hasn’t decided on the title yet, but he’s toying with “The Time For Canine Liberation Theology Is Now”
He’s being acting up every since Obama got elected.

When the heck am I suppose to do some REAL work that pays me money so I can support my family without government intervention? How will I have an time left over to spend with my family? Democrats always talk about how much work we all have to do and the need for daycares and expanding FMLA. No wonder Pres. Obama is pushing for Universal Preschool for infants even between the ages of 0-5. He says it’s because studies say that children should start learning out of the womb. What he really meant is, “I want to enforce indoctrination on your children so I make more Democrat voters and I’ll use the excuse that you have no time to teach your own kids because you’ll be too busy working without wages for my ‘compulsory’ volunteer systems.”
Sounds like the Gulag to me.
