Wiggle room??? What wiggle room???

This idiot stated clearly he'd cut R&D for missle defense, the most critical component of national defense. "Unproven" means undeveloped, not deployed, $$ being spent on research...

There were no lines to read between there; what lines were you doing when you came up with that, Ed??

Hey all. We, the conservative part of the US will win whatever stupidity Bambi gets us into. Because why? That's what we do. Lib/fascist will claim but we know better. We do this just because we avoid roadblocks L/F put in our lives. Always have. Guess we will just have to substantially raise our fees for cooperation with the left.
No biggie. We won 1776 and can do it again. Even easier in a complicated world. KISS works. Remember, geography is still on our side.
Bambi is hamstrung, regardless of his "power" without our cooperation. Just do your life with maneuvers as required. Fascism is always a failure. America is not done yet. Just one more "challenge" to overcome.

Yes, it defends Europe. But most importantly, it defends the continental US — it’s the first line of defense against any US-bound Iranian ICBM. Go here, read about halfway down, look at the map. The Polish and Czech sites were not picked out of a hat.

You are right Cuffy. One can also go to the source (http://www.mda.mil/mdalink/html/mdalink.html), and read a very detailed briefing about why Poland protects the USA from the Middle East threat and NOT the Russians

I wish a bookie would take my bet - Obama will not over-rule the military establishment.

Bluntly put he'll be too intimidated. Probably a good thing.

More recently the project has been scaled back, although it has again created an East-West divide by stirring Russian opposition to the proposed European link.

what deceitful idiots. I should go into reporting, it really requires no standards whatsoever. you can either be a complete fool or a complete liar.

They mention "Star Wars" which was a non-functional Reagan era plan meant to bluff the Soviets (it worked) but they didn't mention that todays missile defense, supported by Clinton, is quite funtional.

They claim Obama has not been explicit about his intentions when he has repeatedly attacked it and promoted cutting it drastically.

And then the above quote, where they outright blame the missle defense program on Russian aggression. Russia, if they were truly our friend, would have no problem with a missile DEFENSE program being built on European soil. they could have been a part of it if they wanted and the program is meant to defend against the likes of Iran anyway. Also, Russia misses their old Soviet Empire and wants the oil reserves in the Caspian Sea, their recent behavior has nothing to with missile defense. They just use it as an excuse and the limp wristed dunces at the AP buy into it word for word.

Some of us these blue states are red!!!!! Then there’s my two sons that are ROTC and a Navy Cadet. They are preparing to fight for this nation, so I would put them on your keeper list as well.

I was in the military during two Democrat presidencies; Carter and Clinton.

We were under funded and treated like crap and losers. I fear this next administration will set new lows in denigrating our military.

Your sons will be in my prayers, literally.

My fear is that Obama is going to make ego-based decisions. We all know he has no idea what he is doing in this job. But his rhetoric and flowery speeches made him King of the World. How does he now admit that what he said isn't what he is going to do? His ego is inflated to the point that it may take over his logic (what little there may be).

I think his biggest fear is to walk into a room and have people dislike him rather than faint or throw roses.

It takes a big man to admit he may have been wrong and I don't think he has the character to do such.

I would advise them to leave the military. they're going to be screwed royally during the obama years.

look, the whole point is that we went to war to defend this country when they hit NYC. the democrats did nothing but oppose those efforts...so why should we defend them against attack at all?? they don't want to go to war against those who attack them...so why bother?

I don't understand this continued 'hope' that Obama will do what is right with this type of stuff. Well, I guess I understand it in a way - we all hope that Obama wil govern wisely and do what we wish him to do, based on a reasoned analysis of the facts.

Obama doesn't have a defense minded bone in his entire body though. Look at this rhetoric, his positions and his past. Missile defense was already proven when he recorded that little diddy above. He's already "not committed" to an ally on this very issue.

Even if Obama were to keep the defense batteries in place which are already operational, does anyone really believe he will continue to fund them and allow for R&D for continued improvement? Allowing something to remain and then allowing it to wither on the vine would be something I wouldn't put past him.

Obama already has military advisors anyway - McPeak and Clarke - and both of them are against said defense! Clarke is just a partisan moron and McPeak, well, if it didn't originate on a power point slide, it doesn't exist.

And here's where I jump in --- yet again --- to tell folks why we're putting missile defense in Europe.

Yes, it defends Europe. But most importantly, it defends the continental US --- it's the first line of defense against any US-bound Iranian ICBM. Go here, read about halfway down, look at the map. The Polish and Czech sites were not picked out of a hat.

Re: Lt. Gen. Obering. He retires later this month. Army Gen. Patrick O'Reilly has already been confirmed by the Senate to become director of the Missile Defense Agency (of which I am a contractor).

I could not agree more, Bryan. The danger surrounds us on all sides: the morphing of BDS into a clarion call for socialism/marxism (I am no longer mincing words - suggest that everyone else join me if you haven't already) that is coupled with a strong repugnance for all things military, juxtaposed with an increasingly dangerous world full of islamofascists (use that word, too, please), petty dictators, and other rapscallions that would rather see the US vaporized than eat for the first time in a week. Wrap that in a nice warm blanket of global depression that will lead to starvation and what do you have? I think we all know what happens when people start going hungry.

Welcome to the brave new world.

it has nothing to do with Obama, please. newsflash: we've been in a war for 1,400 years with islam. we can fight it, or submit, or die. those are the choices.

and this war with islam ends in armageddon..when finally the 4000 year old blood feud between the sons of Abraham is settled.

Great. Millions potentially incinerated and your response is “who cares”. That’s pretty bad. Unless you didn’t really mean it.

I meant it. if the liberals who are now running this country, don't want to defend it, and its obvious they do not...then let the liberal areas live with the consequences...

they oppose fighting the islamic radicals...so why go to war if they hit us?

let the libs live with the consequences of their policies.

This is going to be a very dangerous era for our country, made even more dangerous when the military and the president are publicly not on the same page. The president-elect needs to begin consulting with military brass and defense so that mixed messages aren't being sent to the world. The London Telegraph reported yesterday that Mr. Obama has already indicated to Polish President Lech Kaczynski that the chances of a United States-led missile shield in Europe now stood at no more than 50 per cent. Mr. Obama may consider himself to be a ruler, but if he has convinced himself that his flawlessness is capable of conducting foreign policy "on the fly" we should all be very concerned about the results. He is reckless. I don't know why the voters can't see it.

Lt. Gen. Obering, bless him but he is probably going to be ushered into retirement by Obama's people by Spring.

We already know the Pentagon is being muzzled by Congress to pave the way for the arrival of the Obama defense cuts. Just ask retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney.
