This idiot stated clearly he’d cut R&D for missle defense, the most critical component of national defense. “Unproven” means undeveloped, not deployed, $$ being spent on research…

Yes, it defends Europe. But most importantly, it defends the continental US — it’s the first line of defense against any US-bound Iranian ICBM. Go here, read about halfway down, look at the map. The Polish and Czech sites were not picked out of a hat.

They mention “Star Wars” which was a non-functional Reagan era plan meant to bluff the Soviets (it worked) but they didn’t mention that todays missile defense, supported by Clinton, is quite funtional.

They claim Obama has not been explicit about his intentions when he has repeatedly attacked it and promoted cutting it drastically.

And then the above quote, where they outright blame the missle defense program on Russian aggression. Russia, if they were truly our friend, would have no problem with a missile DEFENSE program being built on European soil. they could have been a part of it if they wanted and the program is meant to defend against the likes of Iran anyway. Also, Russia misses their old Soviet Empire and wants the oil reserves in the Caspian Sea, their recent behavior has nothing to with missile defense. They just use it as an excuse and the limp wristed dunces at the AP buy into it word for word.

All generals serve at the pleasure of the president. I’m thinking his opinions and retirement date will be asked to leave the service sometime shortly after 01/20/09

I was in the military during two Democrat presidencies; Carter and Clinton.

We were under funded and treated like crap and losers. I fear this next administration will set new lows in denigrating our military.

Your sons will be in my prayers, literally.

I think his biggest fear is to walk into a room and have people dislike him rather than faint or throw roses.

It takes a big man to admit he may have been wrong and I don’t think he has the character to do such.

look, the whole point is that we went to war to defend this country when they hit NYC. the democrats did nothing but oppose those efforts…so why should we defend them against attack at all?? they don’t want to go to war against those who attack them…so why bother?

I hope obama scraps missile defense…let the blue devils get the results of their desires!!!

Obama doesn’t have a defense minded bone in his entire body though. Look at this rhetoric, his positions and his past. Missile defense was already proven when he recorded that little diddy above. He’s already “not committed” to an ally on this very issue.

Even if Obama were to keep the defense batteries in place which are already operational, does anyone really believe he will continue to fund them and allow for R&D for continued improvement? Allowing something to remain and then allowing it to wither on the vine would be something I wouldn’t put past him.

Obama already has military advisors anyway – McPeak and Clarke – and both of them are against said defense! Clarke is just a partisan moron and McPeak, well, if it didn’t originate on a power point slide, it doesn’t exist.

Re: Lt. Gen. Obering. He retires later this month. Army Gen. Patrick O’Reilly has already been confirmed by the Senate to become director of the Missile Defense Agency (of which I am a contractor).

I could not agree more, Bryan. The danger surrounds us on all sides: the morphing of BDS into a clarion call for socialism/marxism (I am no longer mincing words – suggest that everyone else join me if you haven’t already) that is coupled with a strong repugnance for all things military, juxtaposed with an increasingly dangerous world full of islamofascists (use that word, too, please), petty dictators, and other rapscallions that would rather see the US vaporized than eat for the first time in a week. Wrap that in a nice warm blanket of global depression that will lead to starvation and what do you have? I think we all know what happens when people start going hungry.
