Video: Palin for Senate?

A notable non-answer around three minutes in to Lauer asking if she’s interested in replacing Stevens when, inevitably, he’s expelled from the chamber: “I’m not planning on that.” Alaska law requires a special election within 60-90 days to fill a vacancy; her opponent presumably would be Mark Begich, who’s on the brink of losing to ol’ Ted. She’s allegedly lost a little love in the state since becoming McCain’s attack dog, but if Alaskans prefer a convicted felon to Begich, presumably they’ll prefer her too.
I was sour on the idea at first, but: (a) The old stigma about Senators running for president is dead, thanks to The One, so serving there would be no impediment to her 2012 ambitions. (b) As governor, she’ll be stuck focusing on energy issues for the next four years, which is fine but not enough of a portfolio to rehabilitate her image as a policy novice. If she goes to the Senate, she gets a full plate and all the media opportunities she could ever want to show off what she’s learned. (c) She’d be a big fish in a small pond among the GOP’s rump Senate minority. How big? Scroll down the current list and ask yourself how many qualify as “stars.” The closest you’ll get is … John McCain. (d) If you’re looking for job security, you can’t do better outside the judicial branch than Senator from Alaska. Stevens has held his seat for 40 years and the Murkowski family’s held the other for nearly 30. Even if nothing comes of her presidential dream, she’s set for life.
Exit question: What’d I miss? While you mull, here’s the transcript from part two of her interview with Greta (note her plans to call Hillary and kibbitz about the glass ceiling) and another 15 minutes of footage from the Anchorage Daily News. And with that, I think I’m officially ‘Cuda’d out.
Update: People are arguing in the comments that going to D.C. would spoil her “outsider” image. I think she’s bulletproof on that point thanks to the vivid impression she’s already made in the public mind: Moose hunter, hockey mom, folksy to the point of exasperation. Unless she changes her accent or gives up bagging caribou, she’s got plenty of outsider cred to spare. And plenty of pols have maintained their common touch while working in D.C. See, e.g., Thompson, Fred.

That would be a terrible move. The Senate is a place for promising politicians to turn into back scratching sell outs. Stick with being a governor, then, if she leapfrogs into the WH she still has the servant’s heart.
lodge on November 12, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Absolutely not! Going to the Hill would make her another “Beltway insider,” thus costing her one of her most appealing assets. Stay in Alaska, Sarah, till we need you for something real.
manwithblackhat on November 12, 2008 at 11:59 AM
Allah I am media-ed out from them FLOCKING up here.
I feel your pain and mine.
upinak on November 12, 2008 at 11:59 AM
Yes, but she’s doing such a good job as governor, why not build a resume doing something she’s good at? Governors run to the White House all the time, like Bush, Clinton, and Reagan.
Very good point.
Overall though, will she be able to get into the Senate without a lot of corrupt colleagues noting her tendency to clean house?
MadisonConservative on November 12, 2008 at 11:59 AM
Can we stop with the “glass ceiling” stuff already? That and the women-make-so-many-cents-on-the-dollar-men-make canard are simply absurd. People experience career peaks and stalls for many reasons, and pointing to something that no one can see but “just knows” is there is illogical and makes women look weak.
DrMagnolias on November 12, 2008 at 12:01 PM
Cleaning house is one thing. Now I wish Sarah would clean out the democrats in the legislature up here.
upinak on November 12, 2008 at 12:01 PM
Stay a Governor Sarah. Run for President as an outsider. The future of the Republican party will be from the Governors who have the executive experience and are proven successes.
This election was a Fluke. Two senators running against each other was painful to watch & hear. It was like a 2 year long fillabuster.
portlandon on November 12, 2008 at 12:01 PM
Hallelujah. ;-)
I’ve been ‘Cuda’d out for quite some time.
JetBoy on November 12, 2008 at 12:03 PM
You know………….. for all the hatred, insults, and demeaning comments that the Left MSM reported before the election, isn’t it interesting that it’s almost wall to wall Gov. Sarah Palin after the election?
Ratings and trying to generate revenue are a funny business…….
Seven Percent Solution on November 12, 2008 at 12:03 PM
You’re missing that no one will want to be associated with washington after the next few years. It’s gonna explode in a mass of debt in 2010-2011. It’s gonna be a huge revolt against the federal government.
She’d do better to stay away from Washington.
lorien1973 on November 12, 2008 at 12:03 PM
Stay far away from Washington, Sarah. There’s something in the water that changes people.
Techie on November 12, 2008 at 12:03 PM
I disagree with that. The stigma was not based on electability, it was based on people not believing senators being able to govern once elected, and I have a strong suspicion that with the way things are shaking out, Barry will make Carter look good by comparison. I submit that someone with no connection to DC will be in the drivers seat next election, when the vast majority of Americans reach the true depth of disgust only hinted at in the past few months.
Vashta.Nerada on November 12, 2008 at 12:04 PM
“I think I’m officially ‘Cuda’d out”
speak for yourself — i can’t imagine such a condition personally …
:-)
/on topic — a. duh1’s coming crash and burn is actually going to RE-INSTITUTE the stigma about senators as prez!
:-)
hence, unless she can strongly justify the change in branches, she needs to stay where she is — let parnell or soemone else take ted’s seat when the time comes, she could gun for lisa’s seat in 2 yrs. anyway if it would make any more sense then than now!
Buckaroo on November 12, 2008 at 12:05 PM
Stay governor. Washington is a toxic cesspool. Go there only as president, and clean up the place, don’t let it have a chance at corrupting you.
rbj on November 12, 2008 at 12:06 PM
just having some fun..
DaveC on November 12, 2008 at 12:06 PM
Moving to the Senate after only 2 years as governor looks a little too ambitious. Right now she would be best off earning service stripes.
scrubjay on November 12, 2008 at 12:07 PM
I agree, it’d be a terrible move.
Stay in the Governor’s office, complete that duty, then run for the President in 2012. Or 2016, though I hope the nation does not have to suffer Obama past 2012.
S on November 12, 2008 at 12:09 PM
Good points on a Senate run AP, but I’d prefer two terms as governor and a run in 2016. I think the ‘Cuda would hate the Senate anyway. She hates bureaucracy, and we’ve seen that she’s better when she’s in charge. I don’t think being a junior Senator would be something she’d like even if it was just a means to an end. And I think that outsider status probably helps more in the long run. There are other ways for her to increase the breadth and depth of her policy knowledge.
meltenn on November 12, 2008 at 12:10 PM
Besides, Sean Parnell has a good chance of taking that seat. He can be Sarah’s eyes and ears in DC which will allow for a bloody coup to be organized with public beheadings of RINOs and democrats.
lodge on November 12, 2008 at 12:11 PM
The Senate has taken on (and deservedly so) an atmosphere of in-clubbiness among the dusty crustaceons all grabbing what they can out of one another’s offices, and, competing to see who can most violate the taxpayers.
I hope Palin steers clear and keeps a constant eye on the real ball and that’s the Executive. The nation (and world) really needs her.
S on November 12, 2008 at 12:11 PM
The Senate is the Las Vegas of politics. It worked for Ellsworth only because he was never actually a Senator.

Never get enough of Sarahmazing!
ReaganConservative3 on November 12, 2008 at 12:12 PM
hmm, she sounds like a war hawk, seriously worried about the Jihadist threat. all the Paleo’s that liked her, must be heart broken.
no telling what all McCain informed her of, I noticed in the Greta interview she mentioned Putin seizing the Oil pipelines that feed Europe. The paultards are convinced the Georgia, not Russia were the evil aggressors this past summer. idiots that they are.
jp on November 12, 2008 at 12:13 PM
Allah, I toldja so.
Ian on November 12, 2008 at 12:14 PM
You assume that the same rules apply to Republicans as they do to Democrats.
poljunkie on November 12, 2008 at 12:15 PM
Allah, you sure you weren’t a McCain advisor? With advice and opinion like this, you sure do qualify.
I seriously doubt Palin will find it hard to stay in the media spotlight. Definitely does not need to be seen hangin out with Washington elites. It will be very easy for her to do her job in Alaska and still be involved in national politics.
Senate is a dumb idea!
jmell7 on November 12, 2008 at 12:15 PM
The last sitting Senator elected President was JFK, and his martyrdom has glossed over the fact that his term was basically one foreign policy disater after another….
Berlin Wall
Bay of Pigs
Cuban Missle Crisis
Involvement in formen French Indochina.
Techie on November 12, 2008 at 12:15 PM
if she stays in Gov. mansion, how does she get FP cred?
She needs it, especially after what electing Obama has just invited. This time next year Foreign Policy will be a big deal again, focus on the Russia/Iran/Chavez/Cuba alliance and Putin trying to take control of all of Europe
jp on November 12, 2008 at 12:15 PM
Allah, she answered this question on the Bob & Mark radio show. The answer was no, and described “how hypocritical” it would be of her to do so after publically going after Murkowski.
latinchic on November 12, 2008 at 12:16 PM
NO, NO, NO,
Keep her an outsider.
Let the lawyers make laws and Governors govern.
Amadeus on November 12, 2008 at 12:16 PM
I think I’d prefer she stay governor and go for reelection in 2010.
CP on November 12, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Endorse Sean Parnell for Senator.. keep an ally close by for when you take the White House in 2012…
DaveC on November 12, 2008 at 12:16 PM
It’s hard to say that the Senator/President stigma is dead given that we really didn’t have a choice this time around.
What is more, there is a decided “self-appointed Senator” stigma out there as well. Governors who do that don’t tend to make it past their next regular election.
mcg on November 12, 2008 at 12:17 PM
I don’t want her to be in the Senate. It would change her into a Washington insider.
Sure, it may make the insiders like her… but she’ll just be another one of them to the rest of the nation. And people like her more for how she is now.
Enoxo on November 12, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Brilliant! Our Sarah goes to Washington and takes on the establishment from within.
n0doz on November 12, 2008 at 12:18 PM
and in just 3 yrs time too.
And now, thanks to the Soviet Archives opening up, we know that the reason Castro still rules Cuba is becuase JFK and RKF cut a secret deal with the Soviets on those terms and its honored to this day. JFK’s weakness invited the Cuban missle crisis, and he got played like a fiddle.
jp on November 12, 2008 at 12:18 PM
Do you f’n promise. I’m one of her biggest supporters before people even knew who she was and I’m getting sick of even hearing her name. Palin this, Palin that. She is being set up to fail.
If she has any brains she should go back to Alaska and be Governor. Run for election in 2010 and finish her career as a great gov. Then she can think about 2016.
While she is at it she should tell losers like Lauer to take a hike. She should make people miss her not get sick of her. Sometimes too much is too much.
patrick neid on November 12, 2008 at 12:19 PM
Up in the “Headlines” you can see that M. Dowd –”M. not-endowed” — has some clever put-downs of Sarah Palin–some left overs that she never got to use in the campaign. We should support Palin ‘cuz she deserves it AND to keep irritating the “elites!” Morris is right–Palin saved McCain from serious embarrassment at the polls. K. Parker and G. Will can stick with their snooty dismissals but the “folks” can see that Palin is the real conservative and they will continue to back her — hang in there Sarah, you will prevail (just like “Ronny) did!)
rebuzz on November 12, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Romney’s guy eyeore pundit wants Sarah in the Senate, for obvious reasons. Its a hellhole where conservatives go to end their careers.
I think Mitt should run for Senate from Mass, or Mich, or Utah. Then he can either disappear as a member of a 40 seat minority, or make his bones a la McCain co-sponsoring liberal-leftist legislation with our new socialist masters. You know, bring the miracle of Romneycare to the masses.
james23 on November 12, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Silly, silly man, but whatever. I’ll have your share if you don’t want it.
Kensington on November 12, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Sean Parnell will likely be Alaska’s next senator, nor Gov. Palin. Contrary to AP’s thinking, senators make worthless presidential candidates. Contrary to AP’s thinking, The One didn’t change that. People viewed him as just the least lousy of the two senators.
AP’s faulty premise is that Gov. Palin won’t have time to focus on anything other than energy. That’s a pile of Barbra Streisand. She’ll have time to bring about more reforms. She’ll have time to be a leader in the NGA. She’ll have time to take trips overseas.
Most importantly, she’ll be able to do that without the media’s intense scrutiny.
LFRGary on November 12, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Stay a Governor, please. Please please please.
Mr. Bingley on November 12, 2008 at 12:21 PM

She’s a ‘take charge’ girl. No jr Senator for her.

I think someone is just trying to drum up some traffic.
Amadeus on November 12, 2008 at 12:21 PM
Yeah, but Governor Palin can’t “appoint” herself; she’d have to run for a special election, right?
That said, I’d fear for her integrity in the Senate. That place is nothing more than a greenhouse for preening jackassery.
Kensington on November 12, 2008 at 12:22 PM
hmm, in 2016 she’ll be what, 52 yrs old?
this assumes Obama wins re-election though. I think there is a better than average chance Obama will become unpopular unless I’m understimating the power of the MSM
i half expect another Cuban Missle type crisis again though, and the media make him out to be JFK heroic(a lie) re-incarnated. also, suddenly the media will start to actually inform americans of actual threats out there, since they can make a hero out of a Democrat for doing so.
jp on November 12, 2008 at 12:25 PM
But Palin must remember that there is a critical timeline for a qualifying Senator to become “Presidential Material”—–no more than 200 legislative days.

She wont do it!
Amadeus on November 12, 2008 at 12:30 PM
If she wants to run for Presdient in 2012 I think she has to go to the Senate. She will always have the slam against her that she doesn’t have international experiencewhich she shoudl gain because the GOP would have to get her on important committees like Obama was. When this new Congress ends up being the collosal failure we all know it will be it will be Senators like Palin who will be able to make 2010 a national referendum against congressional Democrats and her fundraising for real conservatives trying to knock off Democrats will be a huge service to the party.
She would also be able to say with first hand experience that the system is broken and she can actually introduce legislation that benefits normal Americans and fight against earmarks directly.
cadams on November 12, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Actually, she said she might step in until the elections, so none of the candidates will get an unfair advantage.
Phoenician on November 12, 2008 at 12:33 PM
Lorien is way too optimistic in thinking the debt bomb explodes after 2009.
In Alaska, Sarah can be briefed in a variety of issues to be ready for 2012. She can even criticize Washington all she wants.
In the Senate, she would be piled on daily and Dingy Harry Reid can prevent her bills from seeing the light of day.
Do the fundraiser/rubber-chicken circuit and build depth on the issues. MSM looking for ratings will have to discuss her sound bites.
The Romney/Huckabee/Guliani crowd will not be able to match Palin on fundraising. She could become the face of the Republican party — in a good way, relating to Americans on kitchen table issues.
Right_of_Attila on November 12, 2008 at 12:33 PM
I cant get enough of her, And AP knows it!
Hence this silly post that she might consider the Senate.
#$%^
Amadeus on November 12, 2008 at 12:34 PM
She would have to make a choice for that kind of longevity, wouldn’t she? Pork is what keeps incumbents in office. Be hard to maintain the reformer image whilst sucking big bucks into AK, but I guess she wouldn’t need that anymore.
a capella on November 12, 2008 at 12:35 PM
She names Joe Biden as VP pick. (sorry, couldn’t resist. Gird your loins!)
Chewy the Lab on November 12, 2008 at 12:37 PM
Among other things, the One was lucky enough to draw another Senator to run against.
She’s received more media in the last three months than most Senators get in their entire careers, and there will be plenty of alternative opportunities to fill out her policy resume. By 2012 or 2016 she will seem like a familiar old hand, even if she does nothing for the next 4 – 8 years but work on her moose chili recipes.
She’s already the biggest fish in a somewhat larger pond – nationally known Republicans.
She’s already set for life. If she gets around to writing a book or two, not to mention going on speaking tours, she’ll make more money during the first year then most of us here will make in our lifetimes.
The only meaningful negative impression of her is that she “wasn’t ready.” You don’t have to agree with it to recognize that it hurt her and the ticket among people searching for a reason to vote against her. “Wasn’t ready” is a condition that heals with the passage of time. The other dominant impressions were very positive, with only some ridiculous pseudo-scandals and other false attacks purveyed and lapped up by lefty troll types and material-hungry comedians. If shameless character assassination is going to deter you from supporting a candidate, you might as well consign yourself to permanent Democratic rule – and if you think nominee Jindal or Huckabee or Romney or Pence or whoever makes your heart throb is going to avoid it, you are in for a very rude awakening.
CK MacLeod on November 12, 2008 at 12:40 PM
Mmmmm… bloody coup.
Punchenko on November 12, 2008 at 12:40 PM
Don’t worry AP, I’d say we won’t hear as much from her after this week (though personally, I will be checking the Anchorage Daily News frequently). She’s just taking her chance to leave people with a (hopefully) good last impression. She knows that after this week the pop-culture interest will fade. So, she better take her chance to hit back at the critics and to present herself in a good light in anticipation of a reintroduction on the national stage down the road.
I noticed that she has apparently turned down Oprah and Baba Wawa (and quite a few others besides), and has chosen four pretty well-known journalists (plus local media, but that’s for her to talk to her constituents and not us necessarily). I wonder if that’s not a conscious effort to try to present herself in a serious manner? She also allowed two of them into her home to present the hockey mom, frontier woman persona. All in all I think she’s had a pretty smart strategy so far. We’ll see how it all works out I guess, or if she changes it and decides to sit down with Oprah later (Don’t do it Sarah!).
meltenn on November 12, 2008 at 12:43 PM
“Actually, she said she might step in until the elections, so none of the candidates will get an unfair advantage.”
Link? I remember she said that Alaska was not going to go without representation. But I do not recall her promising to step in in the interim. Thanks. =)
latinchic on November 12, 2008 at 12:46 PM
She needs to stay in Alaska and work on making that state such a roll model that the people of the other 49 will be clamoring to have her come fix the rest of the country after BO f-s it up (more). She needs to keep her kids in Alaska for a while and let them be raised in relative peace – does Piper need to go to a Sidwell friends-type school?
I heard John Edwards is looking for work – heh.
HawaiiLwyr on November 12, 2008 at 12:47 PM

HawaiiLwyr on November 12, 2008 at 12:48 PM
Tip of the spear time. The “Cudda” would be the defacto legislative leader of the GOP. Combine her daily media presence with Steele at the top of the GOP party admin and the Lefty Media would be in permanent apoplexy.
This is a golden opportunity to walk the reform walk. And, if The One performs as expected, the abiltiy to play “compare and contrast” in real time would be fantastic!
Bruno Strozek on November 12, 2008 at 12:48 PM
PS – whether or not she steps forward and whether or not her credentials or someone else’s seem to be what’s needed will depend almost entirely on events. We could be embroiled in a depression and/or a world war by 2012 – or we could be at peace and in full recovery, watching Barry O sleepwalk to a landslide re-election. Odds are it will be something in between, and the incumbent will be the clear favorite even if he’s given us plenty to criticize.
CK MacLeod on November 12, 2008 at 12:49 PM
I don’t think she would do that. She is aware of the corruption there. She wouldn’t be able to stop it. I think she is smarter then that. Really, she won’t do it. I believe I heard her talking to a someone. She did say no.

If she goes to Washington, she has to “Shake things up” and continually stand against the Dems and ‘on the side of the people’.
the long knives would be really out for here, phone taps, you name it to try and get some sort of “macacca’ moment out of her to play up in media
jp on November 12, 2008 at 12:54 PM
If she were to take her “Mavericky” attitude and conduct the kind of bloodletting she did in Alaska politics in Washington, I bet she’d find even more fans around the country. Even if she wasn’t as successful at cleaning house like Alaska, she’d certainly stand out in the crowd and still be able to claim the “outsider” mantle.
Texas Rainmaker on November 12, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Just how stupid do you think this audience is to post something like this? Stevens was convicted the week before the election. Perhaps Alaskans wanted to use Stevens as a place holder until a special election is held. This way there will be a real election. Your idea that the Democrat should automatically win is absurd.
highhopes on November 12, 2008 at 1:01 PM
Sarah running for Ted Stevens vacated seat would be worst thing she could do. WORST.
Her state is heading into the next two years with oil prices low and the budget is gonna be tough.
Sarah needs to finish out her term as governor and by 2010 she should decide if she will run against Lisa Murkowski for THAT Senate seat.
She WILL NOT abandon Alaskans by running like a coward to the Cocktail Circuit of the US Senate.
She needs to stay an outsider from that brood of vipers we call Congress. As governor, she can do it HER WAY.
She will have plenty of opportunities to finish her term or run a second term as governor and STILL be able to help the GOP nationally and prepare for 2012 or 2016.
The Senate is where you want her to go if you want her to fade away.
Sapwolf on November 12, 2008 at 1:04 PM
I apologize. After listening to the interview again, I realized I got her wrong. She says straight out she won’t appoint herself to the seat (it will be hypocritical) but that having a ‘placeholder’ is a good idea. She leaves the option of running in general open.
You can hear it here (somewhere):

joey24007 on November 12, 2008 at 1:05 PM
Most Presidents get a second term if they want one. That has to be part of any calculation going forward towards 2012. If Palin so much as makes a peep about wanting to run in 2012 she won’t even get the nomination. She needs to cool it and be a great Governor giving a few speeches a year. That’s it. Short of that folks will burn out on her. The MSM knows that and that is why they are putting her on TV as much as possible. We may like her but 65 million possibly don’t. The more they see of her the sicker they will get. Not unlike what happens to me when I see Hillary.
Speaking of odds you don’t even want to know what they are against failed VP candidates. Sarah had better work real hard to make sure she even gets elected for a second term in Alaska. Strange shit happens to the VP’s in question. Her closest friends should tell her to chill.
patrick neid on November 12, 2008 at 1:05 PM
She won’t appoint herself to the seat. She already said in a local interview that it would be unethical. Apologies if someone already said that.
Spirit of 1776 on November 12, 2008 at 1:06 PM
It would be her smartest move at this point to become a U.S. Senator.
Alaska is too far removed from the continental U.S. to get or maintain much visibility for Palin in the next 4 years.
And it would get her rubbing elbows with Hillary and Obama and the others to give her more press as she battles the Democrats. Not to mention it would give her more credibility as she pushes her agenda forward.
albill on November 12, 2008 at 1:08 PM
At first I thought Ed posted this and that is what I found so shocking that he would post something so betraying of political insticts/knowledge, a clear sign he is a kool-aid addict or something.
But, I see it is AP. That explains it. Take Ted’s seat, become a coward running out on Alaskans, get marginalized in the Senate.
Jeez AP, you are getting sloppy in your underground campaign to slay Mommabear. I won’t be Cuda’ed out til I die or find those millions of outfits from the plane in her home.
Get over it. She and Jindal are up and comers in the party.

In case you have not figured her out yet, she’s a reformer, not a sellout. She ain’t perfect, but she is not gonna abandon the problems that face Alaska now that oil prices are down.

The GOP in Congress will be more afraid of her than the Dems. They know she is a REFORMER and cannot be bought off as easily. She needs to stay governor and go to Washington as the reformer like William crossing the channel after O-man messes everything up.

Heh. Yes, I’ve figured her out. I’ve been one of her supporters since previous to her selection to the ticket. She’s great.

Don’t worry … those prices will go up up up up and up
joey24007 on November 12, 2008 at 1:19 PM
the only advantage of being a Senator is that you have time to run around campaigning for years because you don’t actually have to be present half of the time to do your “job”
Being a governor is actually a real job
joey24007 on November 12, 2008 at 1:20 PM
She needs to be Gov for another 6 years. Screw the Senate.
Paul-Cincy on November 12, 2008 at 1:21 PM
She could be Governor of Alaska for 20 years and the media will still say she has no experience. Liberals have been successful in making Alaska into a giant, cold amusement park rather than a real state in the public view.

Besides, Sean Parnell has a good chance of taking that seat. He can be Sarah’s eyes and ears in DC which will allow for a bloody coup to be organized with public beheadings of RINOs and democrats.

This is the best idea yet. Sarah Palin and Sean Parnell ran TOGETHER for Governor and Lt. Governor–so he probably shares her political philosophy of willingness to take on corruption, from whatever party it comes. Palin can then fulfill HER promise to Alaska to serve a full term, and Parnell can learn the ins and outs of the Senate, and report back to Palin about everything the Democrats are doing, since they obviously have a good working relationship.
By 2012, Palin would be a second-term Governor with both six years’ executive experience AND inside information from the Senate from Parnell, previous national campaign experience, and good and ready to run for President, since McCain will probably be out of the running. I would also recommend that Sarah Palin have frequent conversations with Bobby Jindal. Get the two up-and-coming Republican stars TOGETHER on the best way to “git-er-done”.

with the use of technology even somebody from Alaska can stay in the news … weekly radio addresses … hell even start a website where she can post video responses to what is going on in D.C. and in the world
the GOP needs to get with the times … like I have said before the Messiah has raised the bar on how to campaign and create a network
His playbook is the run and shoot and ours is the wishbone
sorry for the football analogy

Kind of hard to run as a Washington outsider from inside Washington.

Good grief, here I was being grateful that at least one of the four Pres/VP candidates wasn’t a sentor, and somebody gets the dumb idea of turning Sarah into another senator. Senators make lousy Presidents (current crop included), they’re too political and have too little experience in actually doing something and experiencing the consequences, as opposed to just putting their name on a piece of paper and worrying about the next election. She’d be thousands of miles from home for 6 years, surrounded by back-stabbing pols and their lackey media, and banging her head against the brick wall of a Democrat majority. What’s the up-side, for her or the country? Not needing a tanning bed?
Socratease on November 12, 2008 at 2:00 PM
the last Republican president from the Senate was Harding I believe, ah not so good and then the next “insider” was Hoover … again, not so good
joey24007 on November 12, 2008 at 2:03 PM
If Sarah is in the senate, to the chagrin of McLame, Grahmnesty, and other repubicans, she will kick butt, name names, and get things done. Reid and liberals will crumble in the presence of Barracuda.

Agree with Gov. Palin staying in Alaska at least through the end of her term. Evaluate move to Washington then. Also agree with Allah about ending the wall to wall coverage. There will be times we will need updates, but not minute to minute. I hope all Republican governors can lead the way on how to get states through rough times.

I think things will probably calm down some after this week.
So who else thinks that there’s definitely no love lost between the ‘Cuda and Couric? Couric was kind enough to offer some unsolicited advice over on HuffPo today. I’d say that if the ‘Cuda does decide to run in 2012 (and I hope she and Jindal both wait until 2016) that Couric will be the very last in line to get an interview. I think that the Muppets will be in line in front of her.
