Interesting, your portrayal of independents. They make up a plurality of the electorate, and if they are just Dems, than the Dems make up 70% of the electorate, throw in the RINOS and you are screwed.

BTW, the winner of the last 6 elections has won independents, big.

Who won a majority of those elections?

You confuse the clueless with ‘independents’…that middle majority. 90% of them ARE ‘Independents’ simply because they have no political opinions, or interest at all and only wake up every 4 years for the election where they vote for the folk who promise the most and then promptly go to sleep again.

Anyone with an agenda can get that vote if the folk being pandered to believe the promises. As republicans cannot out pander the dems, such attempts are doomed leaving us simply in the realm of ideas and, as I have already noted, RINO’s have no ideas.

The shortest book in the Library is “Great Moderates, their ideas and infuence”.

In point of fact, NO idea, policy, or event of any real importance has ever been accomplshed by ‘mderates’ or the squishy middle. Freeing the slaves, Social Security, winning WWII, building the Panama Canal, trans continental railroad and the Interstate Highway System are all things that folk with bold vision did, not the squishy middle….the middle fill seats, people TV talk shows, and gladhand the media. They do NOT author original ideas of do the heavy lifting toward greatness a great nation deserves….they simply occupy space. They are loadstones on the path to greatness.

Security: Strong Military, Law Enforcement, Boarder Enforcement
Economy: Free Trade, Low and Simple Taxes, Private Enterprise, reasonable (not excessive) regulation
Morality: Personal Responsibility, Religious Freedom
Security + Economy: Trade and Security agreements, Protection of Trade Routs
Security + Morality: Promotion of Liberty and Democracy Abroad, Right of Self Defense
Economy + Morality: Private Charities instead of Entitlements, Reasonable Environmentalism
All: Rule of Law, Judicial Restraint.

Just what have moderates and RINO’s brought us? McCain Feingold…an unconstitutional attack on political speech (and in a delicious aside, the money mess that perhaps cost McCain the election). Then there was the wonder of the gang of 14 and the 3 conservative appeals court judges thrown under the bus in exchange for Senate colegiality. RINO’s have never been responsible for a single good thing that republicans have managed but they have prevented a lot of good stuff…making the tax cuts permanent cmes to mind.

RINOS believe that they can manage and grow the government more efficiently than the democrats

Well, centrists are all different but here are some of my thoughts.

Real fiscal conservatism:
Tax Cuts with associated responsible spending cuts.
Dont keep giving the DoD a pass, they need an audit too.

Social libertarianism, with no “special rights”:
States rights on issues like abortion and gay marriage. Opposition to hate crim laws.

Defense / foriegn policy:
No adventurism to “spread democracy”. Military Action to support real policy goals and protect U.S. interests.

Responsible Environmentalism:
Protections for what is left of our natural resources and beauty. Drill domestically but only as a backstop until we are off oil completely. Nuclear power incentives and tax breaks to develop new technologies.

Or we got tired of being ignored and degreaded by the Limbaughs of this world. RINO’s (what a derrogatory term) and independants have pulled the GOP across the finish line in every election since Reagan. If the Dems had run someone more centrist in 80, 84 and 88 you would not have seen the margins you saw.

Reagan knew where his bread was buttered, that is why he was a far more centrist president than he let on.

Simple…they look at the dem talking points, drag them a notch or so toward the center, and insist the rest of the party comply. The result…massive RINO purges and a good number of good conservatve republicans flushed with the RINO’s.

Reagan was for a big tent but he was never confused about who ran that circus.
