“Uncle Ted hereby declares it is open season on RINOs. No bag limits or permits required. Conservative ideas, arguments and votes are the weapons we will use. Hunt them down and shine a blazing light on these RINO turncoat cockroaches…
We must not make the mistake of keeping the GOP tent so big that there’s room for RINOs.”

Myself, can’t wait for the 2010 mid-term elections. All ready have a couple in my sights.

Heh heh heh.
My younger brother was a huge Ted Nugent fan 30 years ago, and he taught my daughter her first word: Ted.
No lie.

Right on, Ted.
You didn’t miss a beat. I like those chops.
However, I disagree with one thing. If we boot the RINOs, the tent will get bigger, and it will be standing room only.;-)

I’m seeing the head of David Brooks mounted and hanging on the wall in Ted’s den.

I’m as conservative as anyone here at HA, but I want a big tent.
It’s foolish for leaders like Rush to demand that McCain & other center/right Republicans “go all the way” & become Democrats.
I can disagree with you on a few things while calling you an ally.

Run, Ted. Run anywhere. Run here if you can. You’ll have the hunting vote!

I,m proud to say that the Motor City Madman is a fellow Michiganian! People north of Saginaw feel the same way, but unfortunately, southeast Michigan controls what happens in the rest of the state. There’s a reason why people north of Saginaw have talked about forming another state, The State of Superior which would extend to the U.P. We just have to convince the Uppers that the Trolls should be included in the new state.
flytier on November 12, 2008 at 10:52 PM
I love Ted, but I fail to see how purging the GOP will do anything but ensure losses on election day – and we can’t get too many conservative policies in place when the Democrats are in control.
Nothing new in that piece – just more of the same kind of thinking that elected BHO. :sigh:
I have to laugh when I see people (not the Nuge, but others) pleading for Joe Lieberman to switch parties, while at the same time b*tching about RINOs. But then, the internet is full of cluetards.

I say right on! The RINOs dominated this whole cycle – remember the widely-circulated “cw” of about, say, January 07 that only a “moderate” can win this cycle? (Romney, McCain, Giuliani were the three front-runners).
Why was that said, exactly? Can anyone recall? Was it because of the war in Iraq?
At the time, I bought it, hook, line, and sinker. But now I don’t know.
In any case, the RINOs had their turn this cycle. Let’s try running on ideas next time instead of biographies and bipartisanship.
Right on, Nuge!

You mean the politically immature kamikaze half that expects to have everything their way?
Maybe the kamikaze conservatives ought to try selling conservatism, rather than running Soviet-style purges.
Conservatives – and I am one – need to stop this pathetic navel-gazing and laying blame on everyone else. It’s effing embarrassing. We need to SELL OUR IDEAS. If we are right (and I think – know – we are), it’s easy. Sell the ideas, get off your butts, and do something.

Don’t laugh: it’s not funny: people who are willing and able to use violence and the immediate threat of violence to damage and ruin this nation–and take away the rights of citizens–will soon have the enormous power and resources of the U.S. government behind them
Many of these people have been at war with their government and millions of their fellow-citizens for the past eight years. Previously, they were moonbats and Assorted Freaks out on the fringe, in and out of various political campaigns and street demonstrations–which are increasingly the same thing, Soon, they will be wearing uniforms with the funding and authority of government behind them
Anyone who uses violence to achieve political ends deserves to be stopped–with violence if necessary. Those Homo-Punks who attacked an elderly woman and stomped on her cross committed ‘aggravated assault’ and should have been stopped–arrest and incarcerated.
Instead, the local TV scum says, “there was a lot of anger and hate ON BOTH SIDES”, and apparently the cops never showed. Get used to that Sort of Thing
I’m not advocating violence, but I am pointing out that violence is already being used against us–and predicting that government emplopyees will soon be using essentially the same violence to attack all those who oppose them
That means you and I will be attacked, and what we revere will be torn from us and stomped on
I do not intend to tolerate this; I intend to stop it–or to try. I don’t wanna talk to these thugs, or reason with them, because that accomplishes nothing. We talk and reason while they steal Senate seats and attack an old woman carrying a cross
These people have sown the seeds of violence; what I intend is that they reap the Whirlwind

There are no longer any House Republicans in New England. Houston, we have a problem. Rebuilding a Congressional majority means finding a way to get voters to believe Republicans and conservatives are idea-filled problem solvers. Some will have to accept that a New England Republican won’t be quite the same as one from the South or West, but we need them.

That’s a good comment, Sean.
My opinion is simply that we need some adherence to some specific principles – which is why RINOs are disliked. Whatever the GOP is going to stand for, it needs to actually stand for.
Right now, the most consistent position is national defense, but even on that the lines of blurred. No fiscal continuity, nor social continuity – then what is the tie that binds?
Why not make an argument for specific principles and then let the moderates chose between the parties. Moderate as a party doesn’t win election (unless you are coming right from the left), if there were enough moderates to have the power the right gives them, there would be a third party.
Spirit of 1776 on November 12, 2008 at 11:15 PM
Amen sister. I’m as radical right as they come but frankly I’m a big tent guy. I don’t give a crap about gays getting married (then again I have plenty of gay friends) my concern is keeping taxes low, keeping our enemies at bay and ensuring that I have the maximum amount of personal freedom.
I supported fighting communism by proxy when need be, I support taking the fight to terrorists and securing our southern border, hell if that even meant sending artillery there, but because I don’t weep hysterically everytime two men nail each other or think Lou Dobbs is a genius I get called a RINO by people who are, compared to me g*^damn communists.
Everyone’s fond of saying “What would Reagan do?” but does anyone seriously think The Gipper would purge the party and preach isolationism? Muscular military interventions when called for and giving Reagan Democrats, Libertarians and what I call the Tammy Bruce Republicans a seat at the table is a core value of Republicanism. We can disagree on some issues but as long as you’re a patriot looking to keep us from becoming a socialist sewer you’re welcome in my Republican party

Would that make Ted a Senator too? Coolio….
Why is this happening? Because the RINO’s somehow got in charge of the party.
Conservatives who got to Washinton got caught up in the Washington Two Step… and forgot why they were elected in the first place…
Sometimes a purge is needed… and I think its time, because the RINO’s who seem to be in charge have destroyed the Republican “brand”.

Like Ace said a few days ago, there’s RINOs, and there’s RINOs. We do need to try and regain a foothold in the Soviet States of New England if possible, which is going to take RINOs.
One of the things we need to do is reemphasize the importance of decentralization of power, so that RINOs can hang in there in the SSNE and the Pacific Soviet States of America without having some of the big interparty slapfights we’ve had on the federal level with current RINOs. With everything too focused around federal power, it makes it much more difficult to work with them. Chris Shays annoyed me, as did Sununu, but on some level it is unfortunate to see them go.
On the flipside, we have RINOs like Graham, Don Young, Ted Stevens, and Trent Lott when he was still around. These are the problem RINOs, on the electoral level, these are the tools we should work as hard as we can to see them voted out of office. There’s no friggin’ reason we need to have a RINO twat like friggin’ Graham in friggin’ South Carolina. Ditto Lott when he was around. Beyond that, we should shun Vichy pundits like Brooks, Parker and Frum.

Then they shouldn’t call themselves “the base” of the party. Those of us who hold our noses and vote anyway because we know even a RINO is better in Congress than a Democrat ARE the base. We need majorities, and RINOs agree with conservatives on some issues. Democrats cannot be depended upon to vote for lower taxes/strong defense/Republican-appointed judges/whatever. RINOs will get some of those things wrong, but certainly not most (much less all) of them. For example, Mike Dewine voted our way much more than Sherrod Brown does.
So? If your conscience is clear, why on earth do you care?
bamapachyderm on November 12, 2008 at 11:26 PM
I wasn’t aware there were any conservatives left in the GOP
libertytexan on November 12, 2008 at 11:27 PM
Ideas are what sell, and Conservative ideas sell very well in America. The problem is they don’t sell quite so well in Washington DC, and especially in the Senate, because that is a very exclusive club of people who want very much to remain in that club instead of striking blows for individualism and self-reliance. And that is why RINOs get confused and lose their way. Even real war heroes, not just fake ones like John Kerry.
We conservatives need good ideas, and we need to stick to them, and sell them. And when one of our salesmen isn’t closing deals anymore, we need to retire him.
Conservatives need to learn that lesson – always be closing!
drunyan8315 on November 12, 2008 at 11:27 PM
We do not need to sell our ideas. The ideas are already sold. The people have bought them. what we need to do is govern by those ideas. This small government less taxes during the campiagn and then a $700b bailoutafter the election has got to stop. you run ona small gov platform I damn well expect you to govern as a small government official. I do not expect you to morph into Ted Kennedy and start adding $5 trillion to the debt.

RINOS are losers.
Jindal shed light on this best when he appeared on Hannity & Colmes last week and said, “If people want a liberal, they will vote for the authentic liberal.”
McCain posed as a “conservative” while pledging liberal policies in his administration (immigration, climate change, end torture, close Guantanamo, etc.). Why would people who in a majority believe democRATS will fix the economy, vote for McCain? They will vote for the authentic liberal.
McCain is a fake conservative, and conservative voters stayed home.
We need to rid ourselves of these fake conservatives/republicans and clean the party. If Ronald Reagan, a conservative, could win blue states such as NJ, NY, and PA, why should we continue to nominate people who are not conservative and have distinct differences to their liberal counterpart?
Authenticity and articulation of conservatism is key!
jencab on November 12, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Fiscal responsibility seems like a principle many could fall under. However, we have to accept that some will lean towards emphasizing balanced budgets over tax cuts. I’d love to have that internal GOP debate instead of worrying about liberal Democrats spending and taxing.
On abortion common ground with a New England moderate Republican could be banning federal funded abortions.
My point is talking and listening to see how Republicans can give themselves a better chance at winning in that region. We need to keep our minds and imagination open.

Get a load of this,, Drudge is reporting the Dems are preparing to move forward with investigations into the Bush administration!
That makes me so mad! It just further infuriates me!
The Democrat party is the focus of evil in the modern world! God knows how may crimes they could be found guilty of if they were ever tired in a real court of law! Treason would be at the top of the list!
President Bush, ,, has done nothing but defend this nation from terrorists while, though I have no idea why,, reaching out to these filthy pigs the past 8 years and this is what they want to do to him!
It is not enough for them to win power! No! They have to try to destroy the best friend they ever had in the Republican party! What are they going to do to him?? Demand he come to congress and answer to them!!??!!
Are they going to find him guilty of war crimes and have him imprisoned??!!
These filthy pigs are just that! Filthy pigs! I don’t care how I sound! Everybody ought to be mad about this!
President Bush has done stuff I have hated,, but he is still a great man! he does not deserve this kind of treatment!
Nor is this the type of behavior we should expect from our congress! This is what they do in China,, in Russia,, in Fasist and communist countries! This is insane!

Hey I’m living in SC nad I hate Lindsey Graham but the reason we “need” him is to keep his seat red until there’s a feasable winning Republican. Ousting Graham then having some Deocrat swoop in to take his seat doesn’t help anyone except the democrats.
That being said, we need to shift the party back to the right, I just think that most people in America are to the right. We don’t need to purge RINOs, just get them to vote our way. I’m all for replacing the conservative elites like Peggy Noonan with people like Fred Thompson who are promoting our message but that isn’t done with soviet style purges, but ratings and book sales.
We don’t need to cut the number of people who consider themselves Republicans, we need to bring Republican ideas to the people who will embrace them because they are the right ideas.

But I agree. The only way we are going to stop this maddness is to practice MAD on them. Tell the dems in no uncertain terms that if they ever lose power we will investigate their president for every crime we can think of. We will haul every dem in Obama’s admin before the courts. this is why this stuff is not done. We have to show that there are consequences to these types of actions.
One reason I am a firm believer in ODS. IF we do not attack Obama the way they attacked Bush the next time a rep wins we will have to go thru the same crap for 4 or 8 years.

The problem is that RINOs are in the party “in name only”.
They like; big government, federal bailouts, social programs, restrictive gun laws, changing the legal definition of marriage in order to pose as “pro” gay, denying the rights of man to people in the womb, re-distributing tax dollars domestically and internationally, the global warming hoax and all its tax implications, “undocumented workers”, amtrak subsidies, etc. etc. etc.
If the one thing that RINOs believe in is a strong national defense, then they should take that sentiment with them to the Democrat party. I fully support that. I’d love to see two parties whose argument ends at the water’s edge again.

Unseen… I think it is fair to point out that Republicans impeached the last Democrat President and Bush has not been impeached. The country at large is pretty sick of the partisan games and wants the parties to work together. Not start another round of trench war which benefits no-one.
lexhamfox on November 12, 2008 at 11:41 PM
Fortunately, it’s VERY easy to distinguish between conservatives and liberals – without regard to a single political policy.
The liberals are the ones who call the rest of the world “dumbasses” because we don’t spend every waking moment of our lives trying to make sense out of the incoherent mess inside your heads.
Well, I take that back. We DID try that; far longer than we should have. But we’ve had our wakeup call. We finally had to admit that trying to appease the unappeasable was a bad idea – that just didn’t pan out.
logis on November 12, 2008 at 11:42 PM
Totally agree and understand the Graham situation, but that goes to another root problem, we’re crap at recruiting good people, and a lot of the best conservatives would rather amputate their own arm with a rusty cheese grater than run for public office.
And yes, we should simply refuse to support publications that publish sellouts.

All who stand with the Republicans are welcome under Reagan’s Tent.
Stop screwing with Reagan’s philosophy and how he built the GOP.

I agree with him. We can’t accept Republicans who spend like Democrats, expand government, weaken our national security by failing to protect our borders and accept any socialistic redistributionist premise. The party needs to be purified and energized, and it needs to happen NOW. The Democrats are going to pull every dirty trick they know of (and, based on this last election, they’ve got a ton of ‘em) in order to consolidate their power and form a longterm single-party majority that will fundamentally destroy our system of government.

I read an article discussing the future of the Republican party recently that suggested the only hope was to nominate a Michael Bloomberg. I apologize for not linking but I can’t find it for the life of me now. I find this idea completely laughable. Having said that, I think we have to consider that staunchly conservative leaders are not electable everywhere. Dems knew this and went to find Blue Dogs to run in typical red areas.
The purging should be reserved for those who violate the Reagan 11th commandment. McCain would have been more palatable had he not taken almost every opportunity to get on board with the MSM and stick it to Bush and fellow Republicans. He passed on nearly ever opportunity to expose Obama. He had no tangible message and did a terrible job selling his ideas.
Furthermore, the Peggy Noonans who have made a living at the Republican trough ought to be suffering some lean times. Any of the Noonan’s who discredited Palin while praising Obama’s eloquence should be purged. I would rather have a moderate voice who never violated the 11th commandment than a more conservative one who couldn’t resist faulting the Republican ticket.

Dude, Lincoln Chafee was the only one that fits your description there (and maybe Jeffords back in the day), Chafee was the worst kind of a RINO, the costs of keeping that tool around far outweighed the benefits.
Most RINOs are at least somewhat decent on a portion of some of those issues. Sununu for example, total RINO but had a good pro-life record, and I think there were a few other things he was good for. Beyond that, conservatism isn’t a checklist of positions, it’s a philosophy, so there are going to be conflicts.

But a Jackanape like Nugent is always preening in some guise
What he really is, is very easy to know
And every word in his defense is bittersweet
Up is down and down is up
When with the other side you lower yourself to compete

You’re the one that brought up Soviet style purges, which is a crock. I’ve been called all kinds of names during their attempts to ostracize me. I’m not leaving the party because some Democrat infiltrator wants to eliminate conservatism from the party.
You actually believe that RINOs vote Republican. I’m reminded of watching a whore pick a guys pocket, because the idiot was fool enough to think she was interested in him.

PercyB — or would you prefer to be addressed as Mr. Shelley? — you best not be funnin’ us.

No they’re not. That’s the whole problem. For the past 8 years, the middle-of-the-road Republicans have been running the freakin’ party. And nothing good can possibly come out of that.
There’s was plenty of room in the tent back when Reagan was leading the revival. Since then, all we’ve had are a bunch of people randomly screaming. The people in the cheap seats are going to have to learn how to sit back down again and get with the program.
Did you notice that you never see the single-issue nutbags going to the Democrats and magnanimously offering: “You dumbasses had better shape up and drop all this collectivism and abortion nonsense if you want MY infinitely valuable support!”

No, you are right. I was mad at Bush for somethings. But, he did some real good things. This is their excuse to ignore The People. US. More money to waist on a useless witch hunt. We need to raise hell over this. This is how they get by with ignoring the ones that is losing on the money they took! Was the Democrats that more so were the crooks!

Sink me, Terrie, I almost missed your comment. I am going out later and it’s my damned cravat. Simply refuses to tie. I ask you. Sticking out like a pincushion.

No-one can argue with that. If a conservative (hell even a republican) thinks so then please let me know.
