Audio: The obligatory “Rahm Emanuel talks about compulsory civil defense service” clip

posted at 3:54 pm on November 12, 2008 by Allahpundit

We already knew this, but it’s one thing to know it and another thing to hear it. I hope he presses Obama to implement it, as the weeks of fun we’ll have with “Imagine if Bush had proposed this” scenarios will amount to a new golden age for the right-wing blogosphere. Promise me this, Rahm: Not just barracks but uniforms, too.

Exit question: They don’t have enough Obama cultists willing, able, and sufficiently underemployed to volunteer? On second thought, that’d be an exceedingly bad idea, wouldn’t it?

Blowback

Oh man oh man, this is the freaky-deakiest fascist idea of Obama’s covert platform! It has avoided attention of the media (we all know why) just like Hillarycare’s provision to jail those who chose their own doctor outside the wire. Some here are showing disturbing signs that they are not freely opening themselves to the change they need and this must be corrected soon so other Americans can have hope to believe in. This is their civil right. Please tune in to a network news anchor of your choice for further clarification and guidance. Television is strength.

Tens of millions of non-racists have cast their votes early and often, the judges have passed on the racist ineligibility charge, the FEC has passed on the racist allegations of foreign money and now it is time for all to move on and embrace the new national spirits that will bring us the change we need. We all must be willing to serve now for the common purpose of changing America now and then the world.

Has not our Obama said? Behold:

This victory alone is not the change we seek. It is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were.

It can’t happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice. So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism…

This sacrificial service as a collective nation is the change we seek and now is the time. The train is leaving the station. The days of petty partisanship are past. Resistance to a clear mandate of hope is divisive, racist and unpatriotic. Enough!

econavenger on November 12, 2008 at 5:38 PM

Notice the irony. When politicians advocate tax increases for the “rich” they make just a little less than the bar they set.

Now, they’re too old for the lastest venture, voluntary service.

Or, you can get the same medical insurance that BO has, except you have to pay for it yourself while Barack pays nothing.

This goes on and on…

Just figure: When the democratic congress cuts military spending by 25% and Biden sends our soldiers all over the world to stop genocide and to make sure all third world countries get their rice deliveries, there will be plenty of empty barracks for the Obama Youth to sleep in. :)

I am not as optimistic as some of you that these radical ideas are going to wake up the public to what an Obama administration really means.
Remember the “eloquent” way they explain away all of Obama’s radical views; the intimidation factor; and the media’s slanting of any news associated with him. He already has millions of starry-eyed minions who blindly(but not color-blind) voted for him, plus millions of dollars(much from unknown countries) to help deceive the rest of the citizens, or to squash his detractors.

We can only hope enough people wake up in time, before America truly is destroyed forever. And we need a leader to wake them up.

I think you are all missing something here. Emmanual’s model for this is Israel not Germany. Remember, his father is Irgun and Emmanual went off to Israel in 1991 to help prepare the IDF and the Israeli civilian population for war. I think we need to seperate Rahm Emmanual from the One on this.

I think this has about as much chance as flying with his base as them every admitting that Sarah Palin is more knowledgeable then Obama. I think a lot of people on this board would volunteer for this kind of training if it were offered by the National Guard.

And Ed is trying to argue that comparing Emanuel or Obama to Nazis is an exaggeration? I would think that a guy with his knowledge of the military would also possess the same degree of knowledge of the history of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany of the 1920s-1930s.

How is Emanuel’s requirement proposal all that different? Is it different because they say it calmly and Mussolini and Hitler used harsh voice tones?

JDPerren on November 12, 2008 at 6:31 PM

wow, that is change you can believe in! First mandatory health care insurance (only after you pay the increased taxes, the bailouts for AIG, Financial institutions, car dealers, wall street, credit card companies, boat sellers and who ever get’s on the band wagon), then you pay for all those little children’s health care whose parents would rather have a new car and cable tv, and finally, you get to sign up for the mandatory civil service. Wow! what a fun 4 years this is going to be!

PLEASE stop going there, people. One fascistic proposal does not make him Hitler. There were fascists before Hitler, and fascists after Hitler. Ace has a really good post on this topic. To fully appreciate it you need to read Ed’s “calm down people” ODS post.

How Exactly Do We Fight Compulsory the “Civil Defense” Army?
This vid is must watch. Obama really does seem to have in mind a paramilitary domestic security force.
Among many other problems, such a force is, frankly, creepy and dangerous. But it’s difficult to express a fear of a large domestic paramilitary devoted largely to a Cult of Personality without bringing up the H-word. Maybe the H-word is appropriate– but it sounds nuts. It Can’t Happen Here and all that.
So the difficulty is formulating a response which doesn’t sound crazy.
[post continues]

I understand (I guess) Ed’s impulse in telling us to “calm down” re voicing concerns about Obama — he wants to keep HA mainstream enough to survive, I guess — but I really think that the threat Obama poses to our country is very serious, too serious to spend a lot of energy censoring ourselves lest we sound… ummm… uncalm.

Heh. I see you missed the clues. Django caught on.

See we’ve been though the first levels of the Obamanation civilian service and have made the personal decision to repent of any latent bias to serve universal change. Won’t you join us? In level two as we prove our allegiance we get a uniform, choose our area of service and are deputized as change agents. I can’t wait to join the others and feel part of the group.

All the leadership kept telling us is that, through the power of Obama, America will never be the same and we’ll change the world forever along with him. He is actually allowing us to be his agents of change! We believe in him because he emails us encouragement every day to show he believes in us. As leader Rahm spoke about, we see it as a circle of love. Hate and division are not tolerated and in fact, it’s going to be our job to help eliminate that bad stuff so we can usher in peace. That was stressed a lot as our “purpose.” I’ve never felt so good about self, my comrades, our country, our leaders and everyone is united for the coming change.

I agree. A lot of the right-leaning blogoshpere’s calculated magnanimity and “at the end of the day, we’re all Americans” stuff is forced nostalgia and wishful thinking – “Hey, if we pretend everything’s okay, it will be!” “Change” is here with a vengeance, campers, whether you can face it or not.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.

Conscription for the common good, service to the collective.

I’m really curious to how the administration is going to answer the detailed questions on this.

Such as;

- What is the mission for this new force?

- What is the jurisdiction?

- How is it funded?

- Why do you feel that the existing service options such as US Peace Corps, National Guard, and Regular Military are inadequate?

- If this is mandatory service because it is for the common good and it is *good* for the participants, what other service to the collective will you make mandatory for the public’s own good?

- Is this an attempt to have a quasi-military force, that can legally take action on US citizens in a way that the regular military is legally prevented from doing?

- Why do you feel there is a need for this force that is not being fulfilled currently?

- How is this Constitutionally sound?

It is too damn scary to even contemplate hoards of Obama Civil Defense thugs defending us during any crisis. I suspect if this ever comes to pass our jails will fill up with young “racist” youth who resist. Big Brother on the march!

Ed compared Obama’s National Civilian Defense Force to other civilian entities like the FBI and ICE but don’t people sign up for those jobs voluntarily?

As for those who think it will sink Obama, I wouldn’t be too sure. The media will paint this as the most glorious act of Patriotism and human kindness known to man, and there are many indoctrinated people who will be swept away with that inspiring propaganda.

I won’t even play “What if it was Bush?” They want us to do that for four years. I’m turning my game up. HITLER!

chunderroad on November 12, 2008 at 8:55 PM

If people don’t think indoctrination won’t be part of this three month process, they’re fooling themselves. I have a 20 year old, an 18 year old and a 16 year old. Obama can have them for his civilian security force after he pries them from my dead, cold fingers.

I’m currently reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and this whole thing is giving me the heeby-jeebies! Yeah, I know, we shouldn’t make Hitler comparisons, BUT Hitler did actually do this with the SA and the SS.

Yep. I couldn’t agree more. I’m starting to wonder exactly what it will take for average Americans to get nervous about the erosion of freedom in this country.

I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the video of O-foock-ma laying out his civil defense plan. I keep hoping folks aren’t stupid enough to think this will never happen. It’s already happening! The One cannot wait to get his grubby hands on the Presidential power. Just look at all the grandstanding he’s already doing after his meeting with Bush. These next 4 yrs can’t go by fast enough in my book.

Personally, I’m scared shi+less.

Y-not on November 12, 2008 at 7:13 PM

You’re scared? I’m from Massachusetts; the land of Kennedy, Kerry, and Governor Deval Patrick, Obama’s personal “Mini-Me.”

I’m terrified…

I made the same analogy the other day. I have a 14 year old…

Just so you know, Obama plans to force the states to integrate “service learning” in their curriculum or lose federal funding.

I would like to see several states stand up, and tell the federal gov to go pound sand.

I was speaking with a friend the other day about this.

Maybe a good thing can come from this ugly election;

the states rediscovering their sovereignty.

Does anyone read history anymore. Can anyone show me a instance were a “civil defense” force under a leader ever turned out good? This is one of those slippery slopes that historically lead to a very VERY deep hole.

My local Seattle TV news commentator wrote his editorial today about how crazy in particular Georgia Congressman Paul Broun is for his Marxist comments about O and the craziness of Repubs in general.

I posted 2 links, one to an article on IBD and this video. I’m sure everyone disagrees with me. My numbers are going negative on the voting comment section, but maybe, just maybe some Obamaton will click and learn something…maybe.

I’d drive half way across the country and use vacation time to get to any rally or march I could!
This is some serious, serious stuff.
This is also only the things we know. What about all the stuff we don’t??
They need to do a couple things,, one is,, stop the flow of information. Talk radio and blogs are enemy number one.
They will have to shut people up and restrict the information flow. They will also need to pass some of these things quickly. The quicker, the better. The more time people have to review their wicked evil plans the more time there is for the people to stop them.
I am beginning to believe the bailout was a dry run/test for passing legislation quickly! God help us all if a terrorist attack occurs or a real natural disaster.
God knows what will happen to freedom then.
God help us all. I never ever thought something like this would ever happen in our nation.

Audio: The obligatory “Rahm Emanuel talks about compulsory civil defense service”

“Compulsory civil defense service” may not be legal, because of past slavery statutes called “Involuntary Servitude.”

As a former high school guidance counselor, I can assure you that unless these kids are paid at least the minimum wage (and I seriously doubt that Joey 1200SAT score will be willing at any cost) they will be hard pressed to bribe them with UPS-esque uniforms in exchange for 3 months without TV or nintendo or txt msgng.

Beyond the legalities, the costs would be astronomical…and for what? Indoctrination at the expence of security and a healthy economy??
