Video: The obligatory “F-bomb makes cameo on Morning Joe” clip

Not something we’d usually note, but when the big story of the day is Bush and The One doing a grip-and-grin for photographers, we’ll take content any way we can get it.

This is actually above average as far as these things go, thanks to (a) Scarborough’s total obliviousness and (b) Jay Carney’s dorky glee at the indiscretion. In Scar’s defense, after the kind of week the right has had, this was bound to bubble out sooner or later. Share in his catharsis. Content warning, needless to say.

I’m amused with the ease at which the word flowed forth from Joe’s mouth… he was oblivious to the fact that he had even said it. Methinks he’s said that word before.

Incidentally… I don’t really mind his use, given the context.

creatocon on November 10, 2008 at 10:30 AM

So?

That’s what this uber-lib says. He jams a steak knife into a table and pronounces people “dead!” The guy is a pure thug.

I don’t see any huge deal in citing the example of what this passive-aggressive little nitwit says and how he acts. Might as well be aware of it.

MadisonConservative on November 10, 2008 at 10:31 AM

Don’t they have a delay and a BLEEP function?

Tony737 on November 10, 2008 at 10:31 AM

Did that go out on air?

going out in style in the new administration, I guess..

DaveC on November 10, 2008 at 10:32 AM

Your wife will be the worst of your problems don’t worry about the FCC after all you said it on msnbc

driver on November 10, 2008 at 10:33 AM

Ha, funny clip. Maybe MSNBC would get more viewers if they made that a regular feature of the program.

alflauren on November 10, 2008 at 10:34 AM

I’m F-ing shocked, I tell you. It’s a F-ing outrage.

No — I mean that I forgot to buy stock in hand sanitizer before Barry’s visit to the White House.

Ronnie on November 10, 2008 at 10:34 AM

WoW! He did that so calmly. Will this be the norm soon on TV news? Will his wife kill him? :)

sheebe on November 10, 2008 at 10:35 AM

Joe’s comment was quite mild considering the completely unhinged nature of this poor pathetic country.

rplat on November 10, 2008 at 10:37 AM

Yeah, that’s odd as can be. He just let it fly and didn’t even flinch one bit. But I can’t blame him because if I had to speak on tv five hours a day, five days a week, I would probably slip some bad words here and there.

SoulGlo on November 10, 2008 at 10:38 AM

His face is literally two shades redder after he said it. Nice to see shame is alive and well with some folks.

Cuffy Meigs on November 10, 2008 at 10:40 AM

Joe needs to watch out, the suits at MSNBC are probably looking for any reason they can to get rid of him.

CP on November 10, 2008 at 10:41 AM

I won’t do it. I won’t ever admit that Joe Scarborough gave me an INSTANT of pleasure or enjoyment because he is the HEIGHT of douchebaggery and media hackery. But, that was kind of awesome. And since I think the FCC is pretty puritan and horrible, I hope he doesn’t pay the eventual fine.

DeathToMediaHacks on November 10, 2008 at 10:42 AM

OK, that was pretty damned funny. I’m just trying to figure out if he was serious after about not being sure he actually said it.

flipflop on November 10, 2008 at 10:42 AM

Jay Carney’s dorky glee at the indiscretion.

“Hee hee…He said F*&K YOU!”

chiefeditor on November 10, 2008 at 10:47 AM

Meh, that happened completely by accident. These people talk for a living and he seemed distracted. No biggie says I.

DeathToMediaHacks on November 10, 2008 at 10:42 AM

Oh, of course. Because people like Matthews and Olbermann are downright objective compared to Scarborough.

Yup. And a clip that will be seen countless times on Youtube will be just the excuse they need to get rid of him.

YYZ on November 10, 2008 at 10:49 AM

Oh Joe…I do love you sometimes. I’ve been unable to watch Morning Joe since about two months ago when the Obama worship just got out of hand and even Joe seemed smitten. I think he handled it perfectly…that’s the way Joe is, perfectly alone in a sea of bleeding liberals.

I might have to tune back in, although I tried this morning and it was all about how great it is that a black man blah, blah, blah.

Moxie on November 10, 2008 at 10:49 AM

Wait a minute!! Did he say that Robert Gibbs went to Auburn?? Crrrrap. He has to have been a SigEp.

What’s the big deal? Our culture and our language have become so coarse that even the “F” bomb is common in “polite” conversation. I for one, DO mind it’s use in any but the most extreme conversation.

edgehead on November 10, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Isn’t the Supreme Court hearing a case right now about profanity on TV? And it is a big deal-I don’t want my grandchildren to be exposed to this kind of filfth on TV!!
It may be in your language but it isn’t heard in our homes.
An old WW2 friend once said it is a sign of a total of a ignorant person with no command of the English language if they can’t use the speak without using swear words.

Bullhead on November 10, 2008 at 10:56 AM

Whats the big deal? All these news shows have long past turned in episodes of “Beavis & Butthead”

Oh, of course. Because people like Matthews and Olbermann are downright objective compared to Scarborough.

…what the hell are you smoking?

At least Matthews KNOWS he’s a bit of a partisan hack. And Olbermann had a brief, two month period where he was a journalist circa 2006, which ended the minute he confused himself with Edgar R. Morrow. I’d be more than happy to see all three of them placed on a barge sent out to see and drowned.

DeathToMediaHacks on November 10, 2008 at 11:05 AM

OK, Joe is human. If it had happened on FOX it would already be under investigation by the FCC. If not, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC & CNN would be crying unfair and wanting to be able to also use the F-bomb, its in the Fairness Doctrine, ya’ know….?

A bit of a partisan hack.

Those who are a bit of a partisan hack have tingles up their legs when Obama speaks. The real partisan hacks go into spasms and lick the screen, right?

But Scarborough puts even them to shame with…wait, what?

Sent out to see? See what?

MadisonConservative on November 10, 2008 at 11:08 AM

We might as well get used to it, Obama’s choice of Chief of Staff is fond of this word…

right2bright on November 10, 2008 at 11:13 AM

First peep from a recent hatchling…

Can’t believe they don’t have a three-second delay for that sort of slip-up in place. Well, at least they didn’t before that, but I’m betting they do by now.

This little clip illustrates the desensitization effect wonderfully. Not even the F-bomb has the effect it once did.

That said, though, desensitization in other areas, in my opinion, causes much greater damage. I can teach my kids that words like that don’t belong in polite conversation easier than I can reverse the effects of seeing hour after hour (in school and on television) of antisocial behaviour, ranging from violence to verbal abuse, to a total absence of tact and manners.

Mike Barnicle’s reaction was pretty funny. He almost fell out of his chair.

tarheelcon on November 10, 2008 at 11:28 AM

It was deliberate. He wants out of that f_ _ ked up network and this will open an evenue of discussion so he can leave.

Any hope for redemption of his reputation keys off his separation from those fools.

FireBlogger on November 10, 2008 at 11:34 AM

I know I’m way in the minority here for this, but I find it refreshing. =) I can’t stand the puritanical nature of TV. “Frack you” on edited TV is just such a joke. Time to be a bit more human and mature – sometimes that includes swearing. At least, I think it does…. =)

I’m outraged!

Robert Gibbs most definately did NOT go to Auburn. Born there, yes, unfortunately.

Scrub on November 10, 2008 at 11:45 AM

I’m surprised that I am not surprised. Perhaps because he captured my sentiment exactly concerning The One: we’re f*ked.

Morning Wood w/ Joe Scarborough is not bad. He’s about the only reason to watch, but he does look beat down after the election. Having to deal w/ all of them/ that would wear me down too.

MadisonConservative on November 10, 2008 at 11:50 AM

He’s quoting Obama; Hannity played it ad nauseum. “Just words, just speeches,” regarding the stuff that Republicans had been and would be throwing against him.

As for Scarborough, the FCC will want to do business with him, although, as it’s clear his usage was unintended and abjectly self-apologized as soon as it was called to his attention, it will surely not break his bank. Given Emanuel’s status in the subject matter and his nickname of Captain F-Bomb, it’s obvious to see how it happened.

flutejpl on November 10, 2008 at 12:15 PM

There will always be those who poo-poo any offense at offensive words. But the words are offensive for a reason. If not those words, then other words. Emotionally charged words. Instead of “f***!” how about “your sweet dead mother!”. Or say, Jews really smell bad! Or the darker your skin color, the dumber you are! So yeah, f*** is offensive, but Joe just f***ed up. I wonder if he’ll get a $350,000 FCC fine for it.

Paul-Cincy on November 10, 2008 at 12:41 PM

andycanuck on November 10, 2008 at 3:03 PM

Sapwolf on November 10, 2008 at 3:07 PM

Why does Mika exist? What is her purpose? I mean she’s sort of sexy I guess but…

I often wonder myself. I used to think she was supposed to represent smart progressive women. But then I thought…she’s Mika, at best she could represent sponge-minded progressive women. And why use her when you have snarky Rachel Maddow (who is my favorite pundit out there next to Chris Wallace and Shep Smith, all of whom tend to realize their industry is a little bit ridiculous). But Mika? UGH. Liberals wonder why conservatives think we’re latte sipping empty heads? There’s why.

DeathToMediaHacks on November 10, 2008 at 3:26 PM

Scarborough has been cheering the Republicans to defeat since 2004. Perhaps now that the cleansing is underway, he will return to the reservation. I hope so. Joe was one of my favorites of the 1994 Republican Congress.

Well, great. Let’s just bring it all down another level for all the folks who can’t (won’t) read…

I must say, though, as apparently the last holdout for public civility, that it’s hard to say whether I find casual obscenity more offensive than CorrectSpeak baby talk, i.e. “the ‘S’ word”, “the ‘L’ word”, “f-bomb”, “poop”, et cetera, each a locution worthy of nursery school.

Spoken English was formerly a tool of great precision in the hands of adults.
