Video: President welcomes new pope to White House
posted at 3:00 pm on November 10, 2008 by Allahpundit
A tale of two approval ratings, mirror images of each other. Thus did the photo op come to pass, and thus were the airwaves filled with talking-head chatter about the miracle of orderly transfers of power.
Obama voter though he be, Hitchens is still clutching his naive skepticism that America’s enemies can’t simply be charmed out of their belligerence. Atheists.

Is James Brown still on ice like the O’s grandmother?

George and Laura Bush are pure class. Bush held his head high for eight years, rose above the media bashing and did the work of a President. Somehow or other I don’t see the Obamas entering or exiting with the Bush flair.
I’ll bet a stack of prayer rugs that a scandal occurs within the next four years.
sherry on November 10, 2008 at 4:08 PM
Makes you wonder how Dear Leader can stand to be near him considering the contempt with which he’s spoken of him.
I’d say protocol is what drives “his” behavior and a sense of decency that drive President Bushes behavior.
Me, I’d leave a strip map and the garbage pick-up schedule.

Awwww Fins. After eight years of calling our CIC a chimp are you saying that is no longer allowed?
Or is it that jug eared Barry fits the description so much better ?
DeweyWins on November 10, 2008 at 4:09 PM
Actually, I didn’t interpret that move as Laura checking her watch; I thought she was making a joke as to whether or not the colors of the two dresses were OK or clashing.
And with respect to another post about Michelle Obama snubbing President Bush, that was not the case. She actually reached to him with her right hand to shake his while crossing her arms and taking Laura’s hand with her left.
D2Boston on November 10, 2008 at 4:09 PM
Whoa, Michelle has to be the broadest, tallest first lady in the history of the country. She has more girth than Barry. Another first, and many more to come I hope.

Regarding protocol, I hear we having nothing to worry about.
rumor has it that Michelle Obama is a graduate of the Rosie o’donnel School of Grace and Charm.
kingsjester on November 10, 2008 at 4:11 PM
Good grief, Michelle makes Barry look like a little guy. Not just short, but small. No wonder he didn’t keep her close on the campaign trail.
Dee2008 on November 10, 2008 at 4:12 PM
I was hoping to see Pres. Bush welcome Bush bashing Obama with a middle finger nose scratch!!
Ozark_sky on November 10, 2008 at 4:15 PM
I just happened to think that Michelle, being the Amazon that she is will probably break up a lot of White House antique furniture just sitting down. All the antiques were built for a much smaller person. Time for industrial strength couches and beds. Another first.
UnEasyRider on November 10, 2008 at 4:15 PM
D’ya think her feet hang off the bottom of the bed?

Allah is smokin’ hot with this post. The snark is vintage, from the title to the effin’ Last Word. Like old times.
Joan of Argghh on November 10, 2008 at 4:17 PM
I’ve heard that many times, but could someone please explain to me why that would be, because frankly, I’m not convinced.
Even assuming the worst about his relationship with Bill Ayers, I doubt that would disqualify him.
YYZ on November 10, 2008 at 4:21 PM
Michelle’s greeting to Bush looked like a snub not just a clumsy omission. Geeze girl get some class. At least she was wearing a 100% ketchup color dress, not the half ketchup, half black number from election day.
Rockygold on November 10, 2008 at 4:23 PM
Between the James Brown in drag quote and the question regarding whether her feet hang off the bed, I’m getting funny looks from the people outside of my office. I’m starting to get a feel for how much fun this snarkiness can be. I see why the Dems did it to Bush for so long. It really is cleansing.

I was trying to see if she shook his hand…I couldn’t tell. BTW, Mrs. BHO was draped in the colors of the Weather Underground flag on election night. Not very discreet Mrs. O!!
Ozark_sky on November 10, 2008 at 4:30 PM
It isn’t hard to have high approval ratings when you promise that the world’s problems will disappear at a rate exactly parallel to the speed at which you can rise to power.
…
Considering the extent to which he’ll be forced to under-deliver on his campaign promises, I’d say his approval rating will be there with Bush’s in no time.

Damn, Omarosa Obama looks like James Brown in dress.
Alden Pyle on November 10, 2008 at 4:40 PM
Lara Bush ( I love her) was not looking at her watch. She was looking at the color of her clothing. It was obvious to me she wanted to have a palatable color balance for this “historical” photo. She made some sort of remark about her clothing color, seemingly apologetic. Barry then said something about the women looking autumnal. Nice arrogant small talk there, Barry.
I will speculate now. Did the parties agree to wear autumn colors? Did Michelle go for the power red (not an autumnal color)irregardless? The dress design of Michelle’s was much better than the election night fiasco but the amount of RED is glaring and presumptuous. Gold, purple, green would have been more appropriate colors. Her choice of red is very telling to me. Perhaps she is ignorant of such a faux paux…Red is agressive, powerful, angry (and more). It was too much for a first meeting. It shows her need to project power which is an indication of her lack of real personal power. Cause if you have it…you do not need to flaunt it.

Mr_Magoo on November 10, 2008 at 4:51 PM
The Breitbart report noted that Obama presumptuously put his hand on the back of the president as they were moving towards the Oval office. Usually that’s a gesture by the host to direct the guest into an unfamiliar, i.e., the host’s, house.
Obama thinks he owns the place already.
Wethal on November 10, 2008 at 3:12 PM

Obama’s arrogance is intentional, as is positioning the teleprompter higher to make it look as if he’s “above it all”. “Rules for Radicals” spells these tactics out in detail. He follows them to a T.

I could only watch with the sound off.
The new residents of 1600 Penn need to have a Miss Manners on staff because they certainly have a lot to learn. Another way to look at it (and this sounds more to the point):
“Etiquette may be wielded as a social weapon. The outward adoption of the superficial mannerisms of an in-group, in the interests of social advancement rather than a concern for others, is a form of snobbery, lacking in virtue.”

Wouldn’t it make more sense to show Bush’s approval ratings when he became the President-Elect in 2000 and compare that to Obama’s approval rating now?
What this poll shows is absolutely meaningless, kinda like Obama’s oh so courageous opposition to the Iraq War when he was a State Senator and not a U.S. Senator where it actually counts for something.

Tsk tsk. Obama, the sophisticated world traveler, doesn’t know how to open the door properly for his wife. It is improper to force the woman to have to slide across the seat. The proper etiquette is to go around to the other side and open the door for her.

Remind me again as to which one is the capitalist. I see one guy who expanded the US Federal government at a rate that would make Carter blush and another dude who thinks that it isn’t enough.

Comparing approval ratings? Obama does not have an approval rating as president yet, because he has not even taken the oath yet.
I hope this guy does not win two terms, but I have to wonder what Obama’s approval rating would be if he had to tolerate 8 years of unrelenting criticism from the media. Of course one reason people probably voted for Obama was that they wanted some good news and they knew the only way to get it was to give their media masters what they craved.
gag me.

So, what you are essentially saying is that Bush abandoned his core principles so that he could buy votes? Either way, he looks like a jerk.

I think Barry was just patting W on the back, saying “how are you doing”, not to guide him or command the upper hand as it were. I hate everything Barry stands for, and I’m disappointed the way the election went, but there is no reason to believe he is not a gentleman in person.

I reall find the way Obama – an Ozblog commenter calls him ‘the metrosexual Mugabe’- manhandles people; hand on shoulder, arm etc. Somewhat condescending and creepy.
Bush is still President, and to manhandle him that way, whether you like him or not, and especially in public is still rude IMHO.
