Quote of the day

posted at 10:40 pm on November 10, 2008 by Allahpundit

“In a robust and sophisticated democracy, political leaders – and all of us – ought to seek ways to talk with many people who hold dissenting, or even radical, ideas. Lacking that simple and yet essential capacity to question authority, we might still be burning witches and enslaving our fellow human beings today.”

Blowback

Now that Obama’s elected, we’ll see who’ll be questioning authority.

Sydney Carton on November 10, 2008 at 10:42 PM

Its a damn good quote. I won’t comment on the man who said it.

muyoso on November 10, 2008 at 10:44 PM

Such a noble terrorist radical patriot eh…never mind.

The crowd began chanting, “Kill him! Kill him!” It was downhill from there.

That discredits every word written in the article.

Oh, you can still question authority.

Not his, mind you.

Yet hope – my hope, our hope – resides in a simple self-evident truth: the future is unknown, and it is also entirely unknowable.

Heavy, dude.

Now I’m off to get my “Obama=Hitler” t-shirt so I can follow the left’s example for a way to break that ice for the healing and the talking.

PattyJ on November 10, 2008 at 10:47 PM

Is “distinguished professor” some sort of official title at the worthless U of I – Chicago, or are the leftists that unified in their talking points that every single reference to this douchebag is identical?

And if that is his “title”, should it be capitalized?

Jaibones on November 10, 2008 at 10:48 PM

Ahhhh, ya beat me to it d1. :)

talk with many people who hold dissenting, or even radical, ideas.

My Radical Ideas: There is a God; There is right and wrong; Socialism doesn’t work; People who work the hardest deserve the biggest rewards; Welfare is slavery. Call me, we’ll talk.

The Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers.

carbon_footprint on November 10, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Bill Ayers tried to kill people. How is burning witches any better than what he tried to do?

AbaddonsReign on November 10, 2008 at 10:53 PM

Sounds to me like one of BO’s speeches.

Strange days lie ahead.

swami on November 10, 2008 at 10:54 PM

moxie_neanderthal on November 10, 2008 at 10:54 PM

When Ayers dies, as he will one day, I hope to take a trip to his grave, drop trough, and crap on his headstone.

john1schn on November 10, 2008 at 10:55 PM

So take some cookies to the child molester on your street. Try to see his viewpoint.

Visit your local prison and say hi to the new rapist. Try to see his reasons for raping that old lady.

Everything can be solved by talking if you just remember to be tolerant of any viewpoint no matter how perverse.

Remember, there is no morality except that which exists in your own mind.

Bob Feeblethorp on November 10, 2008 at 10:58 PM

Hmm, I wonder what Professor Ayers’ views were on the disinvestment movement against South Africa in the 1980s?

To put it otherwise, I know he’s lying.

SteveMG on November 10, 2008 at 11:00 PM

Enslaving fellow human beings?

Isn’t it funny that his candidate is the one flirting with the idea of enslaving free citizens in some sort of flighty service corps? I think it’s funny that our first black president wants to create something that smacks of slavery. Isn’t it funny that a former professor of constitutional law proposes a mandatory service program that violates Article XIII of the U.S. Constitution?

The guy is the biggest flake to ever be elected president.

You have to wonder who Billy wants to bomb now that his man is going to be president. They’ll have a lot of explosives at their disposal in seventy five days.

Ampleforth on November 10, 2008 at 11:00 PM

Don’t get all worked up over Iraq, Bill. Those aren’t bombs; they’re questions. We’re just questioning the hell out of Saddam’s authority.

“These are not the unrepentant domestic terrorists you are looking for”.

I’m glad to break it to you Ayres, your mind trickery doesn’t work on us. It’s works on the rabble that ObaMcCarthy found under every rock, beat every bush for, and searched every cesspool for to register to vote for him.

You and ChimpyMacFannieMae are cut from the same cloth. A cloth weaved in deceit, immorality, and hatred.

But, we are on to you. We and the millions that rejected you and your ilk, WILL over time, educate the morons that you beguiled with your anodyne elocution.

YOU WILL LOSE and your names will be remembered in history along with Hitler, Stalin, and the anti-Christ.

When Larry Summers, president of Harvard, suggested the possibility – the mere possibility – that there was a genetic or innate factor that led to males having higher math achievements than women, he was driven out of academia.

I doubt that Ayers would have defended him.

I mean, really, this is absolute nonsense from Ayers. He means not a word of it.

SteveMG on November 10, 2008 at 11:04 PM

For the past few years, I have gone about my business, hanging out with my kids and, now, my grandchildren, taking care of our elders (they moved in as the kids moved out), going to work, teaching and writing. And every day, I participate in the never-ending effort to build a powerful and irresistible movement for peace and social justice.

There are several people that didn’t get to do all this because he and his wife got them blown up.

Buford on November 10, 2008 at 11:04 PM

Yes the all the lunatics have now been let out of the asylum- Dorhn, Wright, Farrakhan…will you ever get to see the Khalidi-Ayers-Obama tape I wonder

(Not that people will care; I reckon the standard Obamatron response will now be…who cares…let’s move on…but I notice our jihadi friends like Iran are already calling Obama on the ‘change’ he promised. In fact, given that Obama has change tunes so often, just about every one of America’s enemies has a few choice moments they can share with him …publically)

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.

For the traitor appears not traitor, he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.

A murderer is less to be feared.”

- Cicero, 42 B.C.

Mr. Ayers doesn’t seem to realize that he’s the establishment now.
Should the man who once told young people to kill their parents really brag about being a grand-parent in an internationally read newspaper?
I mean really, does the man have no sense of irony, or hell hypocracy, at all?

billy on November 10, 2008 at 11:17 PM

This guy should have been hanged forty years ago. Why wasn’t he? Instead we allow him to hang around contaminating the minds of the young and gullible, and eventually the mind of one Barack Hussein Obama, who by some fluke has now been elected President of the United States.

Shows how passing up the right thing to do can lead to large and dangerous consequences down the road.

OT but I can’t believe Obama is still looking for contributions; talk about audacity.

In the months and years ahead, we’re going to accomplish amazing things together. No president has ever had the support of such a powerful grassroots movement, and Barack and Joe will need you to continue fighting alongside them.

But before we take the next step, we need to get our house in order.

The Democratic National Committee poured all of its resources into building our successful 50-state field program. And they played a crucial role in helping Barack win in unlikely states like North Carolina and Indiana. We even picked up an electoral vote in Nebraska.

The DNC took on considerable debt to make this happen.

Make a donation of $30 or more now to help the DNC pay for these efforts, and you’ll get a commemorative 2008 Victory T-shirt.

Wait. What?

If an ankle gun is needed, you are probably already dead (IMHO) and a .25 will barely make it through a thick leather jacket.

Get a good, reliable thumper such as a Glock, SA, Walther or Sig. Don’t skimp on the price or the caliber, your life is dependant on both.

Screw handguns…the only use for them is to fight your way to your PTR-91K or Shotgun.

Btw just purchased a Ruger LCP for the wife and it shoots real nice. But again hoping that a hand gun is going to STOP someone is not realistic. Sure eventually they will STOP but if they have a knife or their own gun a lot of bad stuff will happen before they STOP.

Remember what you are trying to accomplish…saving your family and saving yourself to take care of your family. Whatever gets in the way of that gets a .308 to the head…anyone who doesn’t immediately prevent that gets bypassed.

Is it wrong to ask that Billy die of some agonizing, disfigurative wasting disease?

For the past few years, I have gone about my business, hanging out with my kids and, now, my grandchildren, taking care of our elders (they moved in as the kids moved out), going to work, teaching and writing. And every day, I participate in the never-ending effort to build a powerful and irresistible movement for peace and social justice.

Just a perfectly ordinary kind of guy who revels in standing on American flags in alleys, who’s hobby as a young guy was blowing up government buildings, killing Cops…

The crowd began chanting, “Kill him! Kill him!” It was downhill from there.

and has no issue with lying his ass off all to promote, “the never-ending effort to build a powerful and irresistible movement for peace and social justice.”

all of us – ought to seek ways to talk with many people who hold dissenting, or even radical, ideas.

Yeah? even really radical ideas like the ones conservatives espouse that include property rights, the sanctity of life (like not using murder as a political tool) and the right to self determination, keeping the fruits of your labor, the guarantee of a Republican form of government and life liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

Those really radical ideas?

Don’t know where you live, but go to a Cabella’s or Gander Mountain or some other large sporting goods store and go into their handgun dept and ask to look at and handle some handguns. See what fits your hands. Caliber-wise for you, I would think 9MM would be OK. I’m working on my daughters to get guns. Good luck.

The Raven .25 caliber is not particularly powerful, but, up close (within 15 feet), it’ll get the job done, ~even if you have to pull the trigger more than once to do it. (Which is why a semi- is nice.)

The Glock or Walther are.

(Bishop at 12:02 AM… it’ll go through a 1″ yellow pine board… guaranteed. I’ve plinked a range of items for fun, although a Sig or Glock, etc. is definitely better.)

I’m in Colorado. Not sure of the registration issue. The people taking me are all NRA. Thanks for all the tips!
