Open thread: Palin and Greta on leaks and the election

posted at 9:00 pm on November 10, 2008 by Allahpundit

10 p.m. ET on Fox, her first interview since election night. Expectations that anything noteworthy will come of it are near nil, but we’re staring down the barrel of a 10-week news lull so let’s seize a rare opportunity for an open thread while we can. There’s no way she’s going to name names on the leakers but we might get a little generic “jerks” rhetoric out of her. Or, for maximum drama, a wistful lament that Maverick hasn’t rushed to her defense as fast as he might have.

Wait, did I say this is her first interview since the election? You’re a day late, Greta. Click the image to watch.

Update: I spoke too soon: The media’s relentless effort to inflate her rudimentary expressions of faith into some sort of fundie lunacy has led AFP to pronounce this a very noteworthy interview indeed. Exit question: Did you know that Sarah Palin won’t appear publicly with people who are pro-choice? I read it in Newsweek so it must be true.

Perhaps I misunderstood, and would certainly apologize. It seemed (to me) the comment was something to the effect that anyone who opposes the CHOICE for life is deluded.
I stand corrected.

Chewy, thanks. I am just as confused now. No apology necessary.
We all have differing opinions and perhaps you were right.

carbon_footprint on November 10, 2008 at 10:32 PM

Careful William, don’t fall for Obama’s reductionist theory. “If we can just fix (insert issue here) that will reduce the number of abortions. Meantime, let the slaughter commence.”

Dee2008 on November 10, 2008 at 10:28 PM

Im not falling for anything but the numbers. The alternate question is can Obama fix the economy so that women can make more is the bigger question. I think he cant fix the economy so that makes keeping Abortions legal just really infanticide due to a leaders in ability to do his job right.

There is a middle ground here. We just seem content to take either extreme and that doesnt work

I’ve decided I have a girl crush on her, and me…a staunchly straight female. …… I can remember once I called a room full of clients based in San Francisco “folks” and was almost fired from the account.)
I think she’s awesome, and I haven’t even seen Greta’s interview yet.

I, too, have a girl crush and like you, am quite straight. I had to laugh at your SF comment — I once worked at a facility in the Bay area and the attitudes were quite intolerant.

Greta looks tired. I don’t watch her show very often, but I remember her well from her old days at CNN. I have to say that she has really gone above and beyond seeking out the truth during this election. My admiration for her has grown.

Second, the interviewee, Gov. Palin, is a STAR. Hands down the best communicator, the most effective spokesman for everyday American conservatism, in the GOP since RR. I’m getting my Palin 2012 gear right now. She is terrific!

I know I am in a minority on this but she didn’t need him to ride in on a horse to save her. She saved him. She handled the whole thing just fine and McCain did bust some chops behind the scenes. She would lose credibility, IMO, if she campaigned as forcefully as she did for him and then immediately distance herself especially because of some crap from loser reporters and failed campaign workers. She can handle all of them just fine

I’ve gone back and forth on the abortion issues.

terryannonline on November 10, 2008 at 10:35 PM

As is the case with all of our rights, they come from others. Freedom is an absolute that is often inversely proportionate to someone else’s lack of freedom.

In the case of abortion, the rights of the mother, given to all women by the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the 14th Amendment, infringes on the rights of the unborn – their right to life.

Life either begins at conception or it doesn’t. there is no gray area in the argument. When Sarah Palin is asked about her political views, her arguments are very tidy. Even in cases of rape and incest, that fetus is alive, a potential human being, and the sins of the parent are not the child’s. Palin has been clear that if it were her personally, or if she were counseling a friend or loved one, she would CHOOSE LIFE.

Obama’s Freedom of Choice Act, though, would increase abortions annually by the hundreds of thosands by removing restrictions that already exist in certain states. Right now, the states already do their own thing, and removing Roe v. Wade (which I’m not even sure can be done) would be a move in one direction as opposed to another, a move toward a culture of life.

chunderroad on November 10, 2008 at 10:51 PM

When she shows up, the local and national media will be there to question her and give her face time. What she does with that exposure is up to her, but she’ll have ample opportunity to develop her image.

Her main problem is deciding what offers to turn down; believe me getting exposure is not an issue.

Young man, take a cold shower and get that doctored screen saver of the Governor of Alaska off your computer. For goodness sakes Joey, she’s going to be your president in either 4 or 8 years…have you no shame???? :)

Alls I cans say is: Sarah Palin is natural and Obama has to practice in front of a mirror and pray that he comes off as authenic as she is. My admiration and respect for her grows each time I see her in an unguarded and non-scripted interview.
Thanks Greta!
I am still boycotting Fox News though starting now.

This is a great interview, especially the kitchen portion.
