New type of politics: Obama wants unqualified crony to replace him in Senate

The crony in question: Valerie Jarrett, who’s never run for public office in any capacity as far as I can tell but has earned appointments as chairman of the Chicago Transit Board and as a trustee of the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Which, in fairness, makes her more qualified to hold high office than The One.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the incoming chief of staff, said Sunday that he had not seen the report from Chicago’s WLS-TV that named Jarrett as Obama’s top pick, but he praised her as a “valuable ally.”

“People should know that Valerie Jarrett is — and people do know — she is a very dear friend of the president-elect and a valuable ally of his, not only prior to running for president, in his Senate life, and just personally for Michelle and Barack,” Emanuel said on ABC’s “This Week.”

How close is Jarrett to Obama? From TNR: “Jarrett’s cardinal role on the Obama campaign is to serve as an extension of the candidate. She is Obama’s eyes and ears at meetings and events. When she speaks, it is in his voice. She is often the one to deliver harsh truths to Obama–and to others on his behalf. And, when there is courting of vital constituencies to be done, Jarrett is an undisputed master.” Exit question: If we’re going to put Obama’s most dependable lackey in the Senate, why not cut out the middleman and just let him retain his office? There’s no reason to believe Jarrett would ever vote against his wishes. Just drop the pretense and let him be President/Senator.

On Meet the Press Sunday she said BHO is ready to “begin to Rule on day one”. Check out MM’s link. She’s just another Chicago thug!

Im telling you everyone keeps talking about what we need to do to win. The answer is… not much.

This administration is going to be a disaster.

Just sit back, pop some corn, and watch.

Arrowhead on November 10, 2008 at 5:12 PM

Yes, that’s it. No effort = a win.

That attitude is what cost McCain the election. Stop making assumptions, folks. He has 3 million people on speed-dial just waiting to get involved and push his agenda.

No assumptions…

beatcanvas on November 10, 2008 at 6:38 PM

I recall that President Bush wanted to put his unqualified lackey on the Supreme Court, where she would have been one of nine. Obama’s unqualified lackey will be one of a hundred. Let it slide.

You’re kidding right? Harriet Miers was way the f*ck more qualified to sit on the SCOTUS than Jarret is to sit in the Senate. Well, in a perfect world anyway. Obama has certainly lowered the bar for extremely unqualified candidates to reach positions they should never even be in the running for.

eyedoc on November 10, 2008 at 6:40 PM

This sounds like a job for Senator Incitatus.

andycanuck on November 10, 2008 at 6:41 PM

Jarret, born to African-American family in Iran.

BHO, Born to African-American father in Kenya.

Where am I???

Ozark_sky on November 10, 2008 at 6:43 PM

Huey Long would be impressed.

I thought the secret door was the door to the Monica Lewinsky Memorial Closet and Cigar Shop?

Snort.

If I were to say what I’m thinking I could never run for office.

Not that I ever will anyway.

You can’t drop democratic pretenses. That’s not how it’s done. Cf. Putin/Medvedev.

Umm they are socialist dictators.

The United States are not socialist… yet.

Please stay on target!

Ozark_sky – no, Obama wasn’t born to an African-American anybody.

If Obama is evidence of anything, it’s failure of the African-American social milieu.

He’s the product of a Kenyan father and a white airhead. He was raised well outside the American black social environment, he was educated like a garden-variety WASP, and then at some point he decided to embrace black American culture.

So while he’s somewhat ‘of color’, he’s more evidence for the nurture side of the nature-vs-nurture argument, and yet more evidence that most of black America doesn’t do nurture very well.

JEM on November 10, 2008 at 6:52 PM

Why not? The blind leading the blind again–or the unqualified president-elect being replaced by an unqualified new senator. Chicago is really a political cesspool.

(oh, and lest my comment above about “the product of a Kenyan father and a white airhead” come off a bit racist, as a husband and a father in a mixed-race family I have no problems with ovarian leveling of our culture.)

JEM on November 10, 2008 at 6:59 PM

What are the qualifications for Senate exactly? I bet it will be Jesse Jackson Jr. in the end. Blago isn’t going to give Obama what he wants because he’s still pissed about the DNC snub. The poor guy wasn’t even invited.

Way to be a racist git. How do you explain the success of Michelle Obama then?

DeathToMediaHacks on November 10, 2008 at 7:01 PM

O

zark_sky – no, Obama wasn’t born to an African-American anybody.

Gem, I should have said African father, American mother and not have linked them together with the word family. My point was Jarrett, Iran and BHO, Kenya. Again I ask, Where am I??

Ozark_sky on November 10, 2008 at 7:30 PM

And I thought he’d pick one of the King boys. MLK, Jr?

So much for change. It’s all about bringing the Chicago Machine to Washington, DC.,

Better be watching from inside your concrete shelter. Just think… you’ll be able to pop you corn by simply setting it outside the lead door for 2.5 minutes.

I disagree with the passive approach. I say scream it from the moutaintops, scream it in their faces, scream it everywhere:

DON’T BLAME ME – I VOTED FOR THE HOCKEY MOM.

Idea for a new bumper sticker:

HAD ENOUGH? VOTE ‘CUDA!

Thanks for listening.

Man, the guy is not even subtle.

I’m surprised he didn’t pick his sweet wife.

Y-not on November 10, 2008 at 8:26 PM

Why wouldn’t it surprise me if emperor 0bama issued an executive order to dissolve the congress, and that he would beneficially rule the American people. It sickens me that we have such a foul, evil man as our president. May God curse 0bama’s agenda.

Princeps on November 10, 2008 at 8:51 PM

May God curse 0bama’s agenda.

I don’t think that would be a policy change for Him.

What next, Obama’s barber to lead HUD

moxie_neanderthal on November 10, 2008 at 11:07 PM

When she speaks, it is in his voice.
What’s that about??

Ozark_sky on November 10, 2008 at 6:27 PM

It’s sort of like that scene in The Exorcist

onlineanalyst on November 10, 2008 at 11:11 PM

DeathToMediaHacks – once again, Michelle Obama has had a pretty comfortable upbringing. The kind of family environment that’s not as common as it needs to be in black America.

I’m not looking forward to the policies of an Obama presidency, but if seeing an educated man on top of the heap that looks something like them and speaks real English convinces more black kids to stay in school and show some ambition, then some good might come of it.

JEM on November 10, 2008 at 11:36 PM

Just drop the pretense and let him be President/Senator.

He prefers the title, God Emperor.
