[...] That Atlantic’s Ross Douthat suggests that it might be a good thing for Palin to sweet-talk the media out of its ingrained bias against her: I’d also note that a post-election goodwill tour might be Palin’s best chance for a while to change the “Palin Rules” that have governed her media coverage since August - rules which state, so far as I can tell, that almost any negative claim made about the Alaska governor is to be published first and double-checked later. (The rules were set during the convention-week feeding frenzy, and excused on the grounds that the media had to play catch-up on an unknown nominee, but now that Palin’s no longer a candidate for vice president they seem to still be in effect.)… [...]

<blockquote><blockquote>The woman instituted a windfall profits tax, and that’s always bothered me. Populism only goes so far.

LibTired on November 10, 2008 at 4:23 PM</blockquote>Alaska a bit of a special case where taxes and oil revenues are concerned. It’s cold, expensive, and often unpleasant to live up there. These policies are often necessary to maintain the infrastructure and provide added incentive for people to live there rather than in the Lower 48. You shouldn’t be too quick to apply the same standard to Alaska as you would say, Iowa.

PackerBronco on November 10, 2008 at 8:51 PM</blockquote>Sounds good to me. But she did talk a lot about giving money back to "the folks". I'd just like to make sure it's the right money.

I suppose my larger point is that for all we now know, she's still an unknown. What's her <em>real</em> stance on illegals/amnesty/McCainigration? We don't even know.

<blockquote>And last, POPULISM just elected Obama if you have not been paying attention. CHANGE populism.

Sapwolf on November 10, 2008 at 4:46 PM</blockquote>I'm not sure I agree. The media, the idea that melanin = change and other countries "liking" us, and a strong anti-Bush feeling is what resonated with the majority of Obama voters. His populist rhetoric was well down the list. Remember... McCain and Palin went with populist rhetoric, too. It didn't stick.

The <a href="http://community.adn.com/adn/node/134287" rel="nofollow"> Anchorage Daily News</a> reports on upcoming interviews from the 'Cuda:

"Palin spokesman Bill McAllister said the governor has turned down requests this week for television interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters and George Stephanopoulos of ABC, and PBS' Charlie Rose. She's also turned down requests to appear on Leno and Letterman. But she does plan to do interviews with CNN's Wolf Blitzer and Larry King. Also possible? An interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, if the logistics work out. McAllister said he's not just getting calls from bookers -- he's been getting personal requests from some of the people who want her on their shows. (Larry King left a personal message on McAllister's voicemail.)"

Greta has been one of the few bright spots in this election cycle. She and Cavuto are the two who will keep me turning to Fox after Brit's departure.

I know people are ga-ga over Megyn Kelly, but she is too breathlessly quick to attack -- comes across as a correspondent more than a moderator or desk anchor. Of course, as a Republochick, I am immune to some of her charms.

<blockquote>I’m thinking Sarah’cuda will do just fine. She doesn’t have to “be careful” now and can be her disarmingly deadly self.</blockquote>

I hope you're right. My fingers are crossed for her. This Wolfe Blitzer thing with him allowing questions from viewers is kind of a minefield too. You know they're going to have nutty questions. She's doing a 20 minute presser at the RGA on Thursday too. I guess she'd better get used to this stuff if she's going to run in 2012 or 2016. I'd just rather see her wait a bit.

Bush is now called the most unpopular President since polling asked the question 35 years ago. For McCain and Palin to get as close in the election as they did is nothing short of a miracle, especially running against someone whose nickname is the Messiah.

I think a lot of politicians would like to be considered 'damaged goods'-Sarah Palin style. A 91% approval rate from your own party, 64% who would now vote for you for President, a 50 point lead over her nearest opponent and 4 years to improve her performance, and say what she truly feels, not what McCain had wanted her to echo. Yes, she is 'damaged', so damaged that she may beat Obama in 2012.

<blockquote>Nominating Palin in ‘12 would probably be electoral death</blockquote>

People say she's damaged goods, but so is everyone else I've heard named.

Romney couldn't make it out of a weak primary field because of his history of changing his stands on issues to suit the audience. And his complete lack of political skills.

I'm not sure how well Jindal would stand up. He's at least as much of a social conservative than Palin - and he's explicit about basing it on his catholocism. He's also the governor of louisiana - no matter how personally clean he is the dems will link him to the corruption in that state.

I’m not sure how well Jindal would stand up. He’s at least as much of a social conservative than Palin – and he’s explicit about basing it on his catholocism. He’s also the governor of louisiana – no matter how personally clean he is the dems will link him to the corruption in that state.

It seems like a greater point is being missed. The obvious question I would have had for Carl Cameron, is whether or not he did a search of what must be voluminous documentation on Sarah Palin for "Africa" or "NAFTA" to see if she mentioned the subject, and how. He should have taken an hour to call up members of the Alaskan house and senate, and members of her own cabinet to get their views on it -- or to point him in the right direction to get confirmation.

That Cameron failed to do so, and then expects Palin to defend herself, is reprehensible. He was clearly just after a headline and not the truth. Some journalist he is. The same goes for Bo'R, who didn't see a single problem in the way it was handled.

Gave up on O'Reilly when he supported Shamnesty.

Such core stupidity reveal a <em>punky</em> mind.

Palin is for real; Bill is for himself.

Papa 'Cuda (Chuck Heath) gave an interview to the <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081110/ap_on_el_pr/palin;_ylt=AldSnfCVYQx6uL1wgbPOxWus0NUE" rel="nofollow">AP</a> about the clothes, and a couple of other things. Some idiot on the left has already jumped on his comment about the kids underwear (I won't link it here, don't want to give him the traffic), and is trying to twist it into meaning that she bought the kids designer underwear. I think Papa 'Cuda is awesome, but he should be kept away from the press. He made the original comment to a reporter in Alaska back when the 'Cuda gave birth to Trig about her water breaking in Texas, and we all know what that led to.

I thought it was interesting too that he said she's still under 24 protection (now from the Alaska state troopers instead of Secret Service of course), which she never was before. Makes you wonder about death threats. Given that, I thought it was really great of the AP to print the name of Piper's school. What's the matter with you people? After the WaPo printed her email address it got hacked. Do people never learn?

[...] Ever since all these “leaks” about Palin have been coming from the “McCain camp”, not ONCE has McCain eer come out to dispell these rumors. The man i backed as president who ran one of the worst campagins in US hitstory, the war hero who was “too honorable” to ever attack Hussein Obama whe he had his chances on various issues, during debates and Rev Wright is losing my respect daily. Tonight of course at 10EST is the Greta (howver you spell her last name) interview with Sarah Palin on Fox News. I’m glad she got the interview. This is basically a big middle finger to Bill Oreilly, who amazingly became so pro Hussein after his softball interview in September. Seven minutes on the difference between news and gossipy “schoolyard trash.” Cameron’s excuse,... [...]

I'm wondering why O'Reilly didn't jump on the Larry Sinclair story....given his new definition of news.

And, I'm hoping he decides to give poor Carl some free air time to debunk the Wonder Woman story. Prove it didn't happen, Carl.

Eat your heart out Bill. And your high ratings mean nothing when all your competition are the morons at MSNBC and leftists at CNN. It’s like being 10-0 in the weakest division in a league when everyone knows you’d get your buns kicked in the first round of the playoffs versus the other division winner.

Exactly. And my second thought is that eventually his audience of little old ladies will die off, and MSNBC will win his slot.

O rielly has lost a lot of cred in the last year.

1) Oil companies control gasoline prices

2) Speculators determine gasoline prices

2) Hearsay is not gossip

I think the media people just make a lot of this stuff up. After all, if they don't have to back it up with real quotes and a source..what's to stop them? Integrity. What a hoot.
