Great news: Olby to provide laughs to the rational for another four years

Many of us wondered how Keith Olbermann’s devotion to Barack Obama would manifest itself if Obama won the election. Now we will have four years to watch Olby plumb the depths of the tank in which he placed MS-NBC for The One, thanks to a brand-new contract that nearly doubles his compensation:
Keith Olbermann, the anchor of “Countdown,” will remain at MSNBC through the next presidential election season, the cable news channel announced Monday afternoon.
The announcement came less than two years into Mr. Olbermann’s current four-year deal. MSNBC essentially tore up his Feb. 2007 contract (reportedly worth up to $4 million a year) and wrote a new one, according to two employees with knowledge of the agreement. The new contract is valued at about $7.5 million a year, one of the people said.
Mr. Olbermann will continue to anchor “Countdown” and co-host NBC’s “Football Night in America.” Reinforcing Mr. Olbermann’s value to MSNBC, the network said he would “play a prominent role” in “all major news events.”
I’m most amused by this explanation:
In the heat of the general election campaign, “Countdown” drew up to 2.5 million viewers a night. Undoubtedly, some viewers won’t be tuning in as frequently now that Barack Obama is the president-elect.
“But a lot of them will,” the MSNBC president Phil Griffin told the Associated Press. “And they’ve found the voices they want to hear.”
Basically, MS-NBC wants to set itself up as the Temple of The One, where Olbermann attacks all Obama critics and Chris Matthews works on his propaganda to do everything he can to help Obama succeed. Howard Kurtz finds that a strange job description even for an opinion journalist:
“You know what?” MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said last week. “I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work.” Asked by morning host Joe Scarborough whether that was his job, Matthews said: “Yeah, that’s my job, because this country needs a successful presidency more than anything right now.”
Funny — it’s hard to recall many journalists saying they wanted to make Ronald Reagan’s or George W. Bush’s presidency work.
Never fear! As long as at least some of the True Believers are still willing to tune into BO-NBC, the suits will be willing to have its high priests speaking to the masses — and pay them ever more to continue the services at the temple.

So the Olby Watch continues.

Who wants to bet that George Soros will be buying a lot of ad time on MS-DNC?
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 10, 2008 at 3:31 PM
He will explain how everything is Bush’s fault. As will the late-night comedians, after attacking Republicans for blaming Clinton.
lodge on November 10, 2008 at 3:31 PM
Think he’ll spread his wealth? Nah…
Mr_Magoo on November 10, 2008 at 3:32 PM
Hopefully, Olby, his mother, and Miss Precious Purrfect will be able to get that nice apartment on the upper west side now.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 10, 2008 at 3:32 PM
Double Olbermann’s Pay?
Clearly Ed, BO-NBC wants that stock to tank faster so they can get a bailout from MiniOne.
BKennedy on November 10, 2008 at 3:32 PM
Resign.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 10, 2008 at 3:34 PM
Only weathermen and Olbermann can be wrong most of the time and keep their jobs.
Double his salary? MSNBC must have a government bailout in the works when their poor business decisions blow up in their faces.
Grafted on November 10, 2008 at 3:37 PM
Damn! I was really hoping they would give this spot to smokin *HOT* Tamryn Hall. Why? Well because she’s Tamryn Hall of course. Also I’ve always suspected there was something more to her than.
Oh Keith Olbermann’s the topic? *sigh* Well, he tries hard, poor thing. But can anyone take him seriously as a “liberal” when he spent the primary saying some of the most sexist crap imagineable about HRC and continued that trend in his Palin attacks? At least the hacks on Fox know they are conservative. There’s nothing worse than a progressive who doesn’t get that women’s right is a centerpiece of the progressive movement. One hopes he will be stricken with some kind of voice killing disease soon.

Ladies and Gentleman -
May I present another example of the Peter Principle in action.
I am sure the makers of Brylcream (sp?) are very, very happy.
kingsjester on November 10, 2008 at 3:38 PM
I sure hope Olby enjoys Mr. Obama’s new tax plan……..
Seven Percent Solution on November 10, 2008 at 3:39 PM
NBC read Election as a mandate for more Olbermann
jp on November 10, 2008 at 3:40 PM
Let’s not forget the MS part of MS-NBC! It’s an excellent reason to use Linux as the operating system on your computer. By using Microsoft, you are supporting MSNBC.
thuja on November 10, 2008 at 3:40 PM
Don’t forget Bloomberg’s. Unless Olbermann moves to Long Island next door to his buddy, O’Reilly.
Doughboy on November 10, 2008 at 3:41 PM
Let me sum up the next 4 years at MSNBC
Barack Obama: “Do as I say”
Keith Olberman: “Thank you sir, may I have another”
jp on November 10, 2008 at 3:41 PM
If Olby weren’t on MSNBC, he’d no doubt be blogging from the relative peace and security of his mother’s basement.
sladenyv on November 10, 2008 at 3:41 PM
So I’ll have four more years of not watching MS-NBC
rbj on November 10, 2008 at 3:41 PM
I think the current front page, with Kevin McCullough looking askance over to the MSNBC crew, is a keeper.
cthulhu on November 10, 2008 at 3:43 PM
He’s a bargain — Spitzer paid far more on a per-hour basis.
Mr. D on November 10, 2008 at 3:43 PM
I really don’t mind not watching him on MSNBC but the the real test is not watching him because he does football too. Oh well, I’ve havn’t watched him yet. Might as well go another four years.
sdd on November 10, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Son of a ….
I can easily avoid Olby’s “journalism” on MSNBC, but now I can look forward to having my Sunday night football enjoyment sullied for another four years at least by that smug, deranged jackass.
NBC sucks.
toliver on November 10, 2008 at 3:46 PM
I don’t and won’t watch him … anytime, anywhere.
el rey on November 10, 2008 at 3:49 PM
I thought there was only one thing a douchebag could play a prominent role in.
sdd on November 10, 2008 at 3:51 PM
He is Obama’s Fluffer!!!
Firebird on November 10, 2008 at 3:52 PM
Oh Joy!!!!
Four more years of Bath Tub Boy!!!
SmallGovtGuy on November 10, 2008 at 3:54 PM
The “blind, leading the blind”…. Fools that they may be. Since this nation is a democracy it was decided that even the blind fools need to have their own network and news anchors. Unfortunately, all the rest of the MSM jumped on the bandwagon before we could tell them there was only enough room for MSNBC’s Keith and Chris….
DL13 on November 10, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Well, maybe Olby might open his mouth to wide
and say sumpin stupid about Hopey/Changey,
then,
the next day Olby will have to apologize
for his ‘besmirchment of the one’!
Me thinks, entertainment ahead for four years!!
canopfor on November 10, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Why is this moron getting a raise? Nobody watches his show and all he’s contributed more than anyone other than Chris Matthews to tarnish the network’s credibility.
Sign of the Dollar on November 10, 2008 at 3:54 PM
I don’t watch the PMSNBC channel and I don’t watch football on NBC.
I was pissed last Thursday night when on the NFL Channles pre-game show, all they talked about was obama. I don’t watch football to hear about his ass!
dinkyjackson on November 10, 2008 at 3:55 PM
Matthews must have some idea that it might not work if he needs to say that.
jeanie on November 10, 2008 at 3:56 PM
And all the retarded kids say, “More Olbertine please”!
CFL on November 10, 2008 at 3:56 PM
According to an article I read Ober-douche admitted on The
ViewSpew he didn’t vote and never does, what a hypocrite! You would think Ober-douche would orgasm at the mere thought of pulling the handle for the Obamasiah!
It figures, nothin like rubbing salt into the wound, first we have to put up with four years of an Obambi administration, Obambi worship, and now we have to put up with Herr Ober-douche as well….aaarrggghhh it’s been a bad week…man I picked the wrong week to stop smoking!!
Liberty or Death on November 10, 2008 at 3:57 PM
And…Olberman should have thought of the repercussions while he and his clone Rachel were dishing all that dirt for the last 3 years. If the right chooses to play the same game he should not be surprised–he set the standard.
jeanie on November 10, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Heh, +10!
Liberty or Death on November 10, 2008 at 4:03 PM
I love it. We have a new name for Olby.
toliver on November 10, 2008 at 4:04 PM
He succeeded as a venomous, bitter critic of the Republican in the White House.
He will fail as a sugarcoating, entranced cheerleader of the Democrat in the White House.

Everybody slows down to look at an accident…
phreshone on November 10, 2008 at 4:07 PM
He is such a bastard and an opportunistic liberal dog
tocoloro on November 10, 2008 at 4:11 PM
That bothers me too! Not enough to keep me from watching the Sunday night game, but I certainly don’t watch their pre-game coverage or the halftime show.
I’d imagine Obama fans would be more likely to watch the soccer channel, anyway.
Sign of the Dollar on November 10, 2008 at 4:11 PM
I can’t understand how a no talent ass hat like him can be worth $7.5MIL per year!!!!!
worlok on November 10, 2008 at 4:11 PM
Yes, and when stories come up that show Pres. Obama and his administration in a bad light, will he go back to the tub? (He sure as heck isn’t going to ask O. to resign!)
Tzetzes on November 10, 2008 at 4:15 PM
Be strong, just remember that Obama is a smoker.

Interesting ratings for cable news as of last week.
sherry on November 10, 2008 at 4:33 PM
I wait until the actual football game starts before watching Sunday Night, don’t want a brick to accidentally fall through my TV if his face appears.
kirkill on November 10, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Correct…try 2.5 people…per week! That’s called tuning OUT Olby! I don’t think your ratings = 7.5 million.
Ozark_sky on November 10, 2008 at 4:58 PM
Tongue baths are boring. But it will be all that Olby is limited to.
Sekhmet on November 10, 2008 at 5:01 PM
I may watch MSNBC just so I know what companies not to buy anything from.
Boycot MSNBC’s advertisers.
The Rock on November 10, 2008 at 5:20 PM
Predition: Olbermoron will make John Roberts the Worst Person in the World for 2 years at least.
Speedwagon82 on November 10, 2008 at 5:40 PM
Was William Ayers ever “Worst Person in the World”? Just wondering. Olbermann is suuuuuch a buffoon. lol.
marklmail on November 10, 2008 at 6:05 PM
$7.5 Million Dollars a Year? Wow. I never knew water carrying was so lucrative.
SoulGlo on November 10, 2008 at 6:37 PM
So he doesn’t even vote? I had a government teacher in high school tell me: “If you don’t vote, you don’t have the right to bitch and complain about the country. Plain and simple.” Thank you Mr.Cherry for one of the best lessons I ever learned. Too bad Ober wasn’t one of your students. He will always be the hypocrite to me until he votes.
boingo_tx on November 10, 2008 at 7:42 PM
olbimambi is the most ANNOYING PERSON IN THE WWWOOOOOOOOORRRRRLLLLLLDDDDDD!!!!!

gary fouse on November 11, 2008 at 12:35 AM
When Oberman was on ESPN he was known as a jocksniffer. Then he went to politics and, I forgot Obama plays basketball and Kieth remains a jocksniffer.
