Thee only way to deal with a biased media is to replace them. Print newspapers will be dead soon. Several magazines such as the Christian Science Monitor and the U.S. News and World Report are becoming web only. I think many other print media outlets will follow suit. The new media is the web and that is where we need to continue our work.

As for the broadcast media, we already own talk radio. As long as the liberals do not try to press a fairness doctrine that will not change. If they do press a fairness doctrine it is important that the Republicans in Congress either stop it or amend it so that we can make it work for us. Obviously, I prefer that it is stopped.

Television is the place where conservative ideas are not represented well. Even Fox News is neo-con rather than true conservative. We need to start looking at creating a real conservative news channel rather than the garbage that Fox puts on. I am talking hard news and serious analysis that explains what conservatism means.

I'm afraid all those criticizing the media for its pro-Obama bias are about 8 years behind the real issue. The primary reason that Obama was elected was due to the anti-Bush coverage that has been steady for 8 years now. Bush had his faults -- don't get me started on the "compassionate conservative" business -- but the drive-by media systematically trashed him over and over again for 8 years, lying as needed. Once they planted the idea that the Bush administration was a colossal flop, the rest just followed.

Be prepared. You might think that a black man being elected president would put an end to all talk about racism, but it's just beginning.

It's just a matter of time before network figureheads start reminding us that millions of people did <em><strong>not</strong></em> vote for Obama. All those millions can still be presumed to be racists.

The only good news is that after a few years of smearing all political opponents as racists over and over, no one will take the accusation seriously any more.

Adding a little from Hitchens:

<blockquote>Suspicious of welfare addiction, feeble justice and high taxes, totally committed to preserving its own national sovereignty, unabashedly Christian in a world part secular and part Muslim, suspicious of the Great Global Warming panic, it was unique.

These strengths had been fading for some time, mainly due to poorly controlled mass immigration and to the march of political correctness. They had also been weakened by the failure of America’s conservative party – the Republicans – to fight on the cultural and moral fronts.

<strong>They preferred to posture on the world stage. Scared of confronting Left-wing teachers and sexual revolutionaries at home, they could order soldiers to be brave on their behalf in far-off deserts</strong>. And now the US, like Britain before it, has begun the long slow descent into the Third World. How sad. Where now is our last best hope on Earth?</blockquote>

<blockquote>That’s the issue Howell should have addressed in her column. We already know that the Post gave imbalanced coverage of Obama and McCain, as did most of the rest of the media. And now Howell gives the mea culpa in her first column after Election Day, when it’s far too late to do anything about it. Where was Howell during the last three months? Why wait until the election is over to speak up? That’s an answer in itself.</blockquote>

I wonder that anyone even bothers to ask this kind of question anymore. The members of the mainstream press are almost universally leftist. Their concept of "fair and balanced" is to have their side win. Why is this so hard to understand for conservatives?

<blockquote>Red State State of Mind on November 8, 2008 at 7:20 PM</blockquote>

I think identifying advertisers is well, a dead end.

What conservatives need to do is invest in our culture. Take more teaching positions, go into the public sector. It is not in our nature but I'd call on conservatives, military veterans especially, to become teachers.

The most dangerous thing to conservativism is an ignorant public. And we have two solid generations that are very very ignorant of political and economic theory. How are you supposed to express conservative ideas to drywall? they do not know the difference between socialism and capitalism. I have had too many conversations with too many people about politics. We cannot depend on a fair media. We must do it ourselves.

Republicans MUST get off their arse and go to black neighborhoods and talk education, economics. Republicans have to talk past the media and work to solve problems. Don't talk party talk solutions. The election of Barack Obama does have it's benefits. Black people are paying attention. Now is a great time to be involved in the black community. When Barack Obama tilts left away from family values it gives Republicans an opening to talk about family values, to talk about abortion to talk about the morbid abortion rate among blacks. 70% of blacks voted for Prop 8, they are not interested in a President that is going to appoint judges that would grant gay marriage at the federal level. His choices get harder to explain when the most loyal voting block the Democrats have are deadset against gay marriage. When Republicans talk good education policy it puts the interests of black people, good education, against that of the Democrat party, pleasing the teachers union and keeping blacks in Democrat controlled poorly run educational systems. But my earlier point about going into education comes into play. Lets say the black dropout rate falls considerably. What will they be learning? Will they know what capitalism is and the benefits thereof or will they learn that government intervention saved the nation?

Were Republicans succesful at even shifting the Black vote just 10% nationally Democrats would have a very tough time getting elected. If, praise the Lord, the vote split... Democrats could not get elected to the federal goverment or governorship in most of the nation. The states with the ten largest US cities would be deep deep red.

This is a sound strategy. An innocous play for better education and family vaules that is not partisan or ideological during a time when black people are paying attention to poltics as they never have will highlight the ways in which the Democrat party is undermining the black community. What do we have to lose as conservatives? This can be implemented in the 20 largest cities in America. What we spend congressional races dwarfs what we would need to do this kind of outreach. The benefit is that the democrats default to identity politics, and ideology. The success of turning the black vote even a few points will bring out the demagouges. Black people voting for Republicans in good faith, rewarding them for reaching of and bringing good solutions to age old problems will not take demagougery lightly.

Newspapers are in a death spiral. They cannot save themselves. People have to buy papers, and they cannot get the readership to trust them, newspapers are dead. Unless they shift to fact and analysis reporting versus advocacy jouranlism they will go extinct. Newspapers have to decide between Obama hagiography and bankruptcy or real journalism that comes with a paycheck.

Unfortunately television can derive profit from ratings and selling advertising. So they do not have a direct a consequence as newspapers. But television news has the same choice to make.

"Regarding ways to identify advertisers on the MSM and applying pressure to them"

If the site meets your objectives, you will have lawyers crawling up your arse. They will drive you out of business, and the nut roots will expose the personal life of you and your family. Witness....Joe....all he did was ask a good question.

It isn't a thing for an ordinary citizen to take on.

I like the <strong>Don't Click Their Ads</strong> idea.

Also, any time you see a paid Google search ad that leads to an MSM website, click it and it will cost em. I'll waste a few seconds a day doing it.

<strong>Regarding ways to identify advertisers on the MSM and applying pressure to them</strong>

I have been thinking of starting a website that would provide a resource for people who believe the MSM have been and continue to be biased. I have started the outline of what I want to do, and I'm preparing to speak to someone I know who is much more web savvy than me.

Bottom line is, I'd like to hear from those of you with ideas on what format the information would be displayed in, what should and should not be focused on, and how often it would be updated. Here are my initial thoughts and the framework I am assembling:

The two main sources of MSM bias are through newspapers and television. For brevity's sake, I'd focus first on television.

It would be important to determine if there were any networks that were fair. Unlike som eposters here, i still feel Fox is our best hope in television. I'd want to list major advertisers on television and identify those that advertised on CBS CNN ABC MSNBC and NBC but NOT on FOX to see if i could create a subset of those that put most of their advertising dollars into left leaning networks.

Visitors to the site would be able to see a Hot 25 list of the biggest advertisers who favor these same MSM, and click on a link that gave them the names, addresses, emails, #s (what ever I can obtain) of these advertisers, so each visitor can chose if they want to contact them to complain about the advertiser's choice of advertising medium. This way they'd receive complaints from a variety of consumers and in a variety of ways.

Each month, I'd update the Top 25 so new advertisers would be listed.

I'd try to get mention of the website on other media that have a conservative viewership, hoping to partner with them.

I'mserious about this, and I'd like some feedback from anyone who thinks it may have legs. Thanks...

<blockquote>the pro-Obama tilt in this election cycle</blockquote> Ed that is a gross understatement. Tilt? The MSM tries to fog up the argument with numbers of articles for Obama vrs McCain. I don't care how many were for who, it is what the articles or TV broadcast say that is the damage makers. I've flipped back and forth between news on Fox & CNN and it seems they are operating in parallel but decidedly difference universes. The boycott is too slow. I say have Boston Tea party type events with their delivery trucks, news stands, paper vending boxes. Use you imagination.

I think the better way to view the MSM is the media wing of the DNC. Hard to separate the product from the process.

Barak raises 650 million without breaking a sweat so I think there are some powerful people behind him. I would think the same powerful people would want their candidates to get favorable coverage.

If you want that to happen do you start your own media arm or simply buy up controlling interests in sagging media companies to tout your political product.

Powerful people using the media to influence voters is old hat. Alternative media is just a new, cheap, and effective way to pull back the curtain.

The MSM is a cancer. As more people learn to trust nothing they read in the papers, the cancer shrinks.
