Video: Obama on seances and talking to ex-presidents

Via Ben Smith, who’s surprised enough to note it, and Karol, who’s seeing red from outrage. Note to The One: The fastest route to post-partisanship emphatically does not lie through Nancy Reagan jokes. Especially when she’s recovering from a broken hip.

I don’t think Obama/Biden will be able to control their mouths. This is going to be quite the colorful transition and entertaining 4 years.

Those White House Correspondents dinners should be a laugh riot…

Yes, really.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 7, 2008 at 4:04 PM

Boy its a good thing it looks like the questions he will get from the press could have been written by his own self.
Otherwise it might get, uh, awkward.

jjshaka on November 7, 2008 at 4:04 PM

WOW. I hope Nancy responds with a Rev Wright “faith” joke.

marklmail on November 7, 2008 at 4:04 PM

The good thing about egotistical jerks is that they constantly put their foot in their mouth. Couple that with Biden and you get a double whammy. I predict it won’t be long before people begin seeing what an arrogant prick this guy really is and he’ll barely make it 4 years.

Bob Feeblethorp on November 7, 2008 at 4:04 PM

P.S. Obama is a petty scumbag who hides it well.

marklmail on November 7, 2008 at 4:05 PM

What does this tell us about Obama? That he is a nasty man. Picking on a little old lady who supported him.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 7, 2008 at 4:09 PM

Let’s see…

Denigrate a working man on a campaign stop in front of so-called working people: CHECK!

Make class-less joke about an aging American treasure fresh out of the hospital: DOUBLE CHECK!

This is going to be a fun eight to ten years!

robblefarian on November 7, 2008 at 4:09 PM

Making jokes at the expense of an elderly, ailing woman, adored by millions of Americans, whose greatest “sin” was overconcern for her dear husband because he had been shot and nearly killed by a would-be assassin. That’s just great, Barry.

It’s going to be a tasteless four years if this is any indication.

Gilda on November 7, 2008 at 4:09 PM

“Post-partisan”: 1. Pick nasty, spiteful hyper-partisan Rahm Emmanuel to be Chief of Staff. 2. Make unnecessary, utterly classless joke at expense of aged, injured wife of most beloved GOP President in living memory. 3. Next: Bill Ayers (or Diatha Harris) for Secretary of Education.

BananaSlug on November 7, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Smacks of either having to mark a toddler’s stuff when he goes to camp or some serious ego issues.

It was all staged. The whole thing. He was reading his answers (and jokes) from note cards.

That’s why the press conference started late – he had to get his cue cards in order. :)

dugan on November 7, 2008 at 4:13 PM

Like his sign “Office of the President-Elect”? Has that ever been done before? He needs props to look presidential.

BTW-I’m an artist and I hate that shade of blue now.

illustr8r on November 7, 2008 at 4:13 PM

Now he’s trying to throw Nancy under the bus like he heartlessly did to his grandmother. Maybe we need to have a seance with her to see what she thought of the election outcome. I’ve often heard that terminal patients can will themselves to live to a certain date (like a holiday) and then pass away immediately thereafter. Maybe his grandmother chose the time of her passing rather than see what was to come.

Grew up going to Fenway once a year with my Uncle Al (he loved to eat Fenway Franks, smoke cigars and yell at the ump). When the Red Sox lost that series, my uncle’s wife said he got up out of his chair, shut the tv off, shut the light off (with her still in the room) and went to bed. Unfortunately, he passed before he got to see them win. I loved my Uncle Al – and he made the best Manhatten clam chowder and clam cakes.

Was there a teleprompter there?

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 7, 2008 at 4:14 PM

What’s with this “Office of the President Elect”? Not even sworn in, yet already increasing the size of the government.

token on November 7, 2008 at 4:14 PM

OK, I just have to say this.

Obama is truly a creep. That little joke of his was incredibly cruel, on so many levels.

I’ve decided to just go quiet, not do much to undermine Obama, and just wait for the bad stuff to hit the fan. When it does, I will pain for my country, but rejoice that this evil, lying, manipulative scumbag is finally on his way to the inevitable trainwreck at the end of his political career. I believe he will have about 6 months or so as President before he destroy his own credibility. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

The Nancy Reagan “joke” is not at all surprising. In every social or insidepolitical lib gathering that Barry’s been at since college Reagan has been nothing but the butt of their misguided humor. He is so deeply entrenched in radical liberalism thathe can’t imagine anyone who’s not. It’s scary.

astuddis on November 7, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Extending unemployment insurance is a bad idea. All it does is inflate the unemployment numbers which is why it is as high as it is now. Basically the back door gets shut, with a wide open front door, so they dont leave the unemployment lines.

The money would be better spent on tax cuts for companies that hire people off the unemployment lines.

Lets say we give a tax incentive for companies to hire those on unemployment, say, $500 per month per employee, businesses would jump on it. The Government would get the money back in taxes. The now employed person will fell better about themselves and maybe make more money.

bad idea.

I said it once, I’ll say it again.

Michigan has been going downhill since 2002 when Granholm was elected. I am on unemployment for the second time in three years as an engineer in the auto industry.

Now she’s on Obama’s economic advisory team.

What we should do, but won’t:

Offer the bailout GM, Ford, and Chrysler are asking for. With one condition: Dump the UAW. Let them strike, do whatever they want. After a while, while American plants are starting to run more efficiently, at less cost, and with higher quality, and money starts pouring in, sit back and watch American ingenuity take back the industry.
