If I was advising her I’d say appoint a like-minded conservative reformer to the seat. They’ll most likely keep the seat in the special election. Then Sarah should knock off Lisa Murkowski. She’s another corrupt GOP phony. Daddy gave her the seat and she’s standing up strongly defending the thief Stevens

I tend to agree with this. But there is a reality in both houses as a new comer, especialy as someone who did it on their own, you can have a very difficult time starting out.
I have always wondered what Lisa would do on her own; free of Stevens pulling her strings. If we examing Lisa's voting record we can easily see it is a carbon copy of Steven's. I have no problem voting to replace her if she continues down a moderate road of out of control spending conceding conservative principals to get along with the dems. But, she can win my full support if she can be unapologetic with conservative princials. I am not sure how much we really know about Lisa without Steven's
If this fails we Alaskans need to find a very strong conservative candidate to replace her and not be afraid to fully vet a competing candidate. Otherwise we make the seat very vulnrable to the dems. As we also know and it is true here as anywhere, we conservatives need to learn how to use other medium other than network news and print media to get our message out. We all know we don't only run against the dem candidate but we run against the press. The more we talk and explain with clarity the reason we believe in LIBERTY the better we can do. And as much as I love Hannity, we can not just throw talking points out there as if the very mention of them wins the argument, we need to explain it...every...single...time we defend them. And if we are going to call someone a "socialist" we need to explain what socialist are.

I agree that McConnell has done a pretty good job, but DeMint is right also. Stevens should be put on notice that his state will get nothing and he will be forced out of any meaningful commitees until he resigns. His own people will eventually rise to call for his resignation, as he will be nothing more than a lame duck. That's when Palin can name his temp and set the special election is place.

Sarah should stay in the governors spot. I think she is an executive and not one of many. If we trust her to be the VP and potential president then lets trust her to make the right pick for the senate seat.

idbg's right. As Hugh Hewitt noted, the few times a governor picked themselves it didn't go over well with the voters.

If I was advising her I'd say appoint a like-minded conservative reformer to the seat. They'll most likely keep the seat in the special election. Then Sarah should knock off Lisa Murkowski. She's another corrupt GOP phony. Daddy gave her the seat and she's standing up strongly defending the thief Stevens. She's a perfect target. Sarah will only prove her mettle and improve her standing with real conservatives by completing the sweep of corrupt Republicans from Alaska politics.

If Stevens is kicked out during the lame-duck session, that would end his current term. But, since he's been reelected in Alaska, wouldn't he just come back for the next one and have to be expelled again?

Let’s give McConnell the boot as well. DeMint for minority leader!

I agree. DeMint has been one of the few true conservatives in D.C. He was out front in fighting the amnesty deal, and the bailout. We need him in a leadership position ASAP.

Meanwhile she probably has close to 0 approval rating among the other half (more than half, actuall) of the population. That’s just not enough.

factoid on November 7, 2008 at 1:40 PM

link please.

Besides, opinions are not static. She is a relative newcomer to national politics and has plenty of time to get some more accomplishments under her belt that will sway people... or at least sway the ones who are not prejudiced against her because of her religion or her gender.

If we trust her to be the VP and potential president then lets trust her to make the right pick for the senate seat and to set herself up for the white house run contrary to what the press may push she is no dummy and she is politically savvy.

Mc Connel should toss Stevens immediately where does this guy get the cojones to stay in the senate. These guys who think their job is akin to a birthright are infuriating.

Rasmussen reports that she has a 91% approval rating amongst the GOP

ConservativePartyNow on November 7, 2008 at 1:14 PM

She has a 91% approval rating amongst a group that, as it became apparent on Tuesday, is currently a minority in US politics. Meanwhile she probably has close to 0 approval rating among the other half (more than half, actuall) of the population. That's just not enough.

Actually I don't know the particulars of the law. I just remember when Murkowski was elected Governor he named, as Governor, his daughter to replace him. Then when the election came around that's when she was atually elected to the office. So, what I am hoping happens now is Gov. Palin names a replacement then if there is a special election our (R) candidate wins.

IMHO, it's time for Mitch to move from quarterback of the Senate GOP to the position of Defensive Coach.

He's got a middle of the road LOSING record on providing any winning GOP/conservative direction to the Senate. He's very weak on offense, and is generally weak when it comes to articulating messages and values with any clarity during exposures to the media (Sunday talk shows).

However, he occasionally does some valid political moves to save the GOPs butt, which can be important when they are in a minority defensive position. Hence the notion that he ought to find some sort of defensive coach position in the GOP senate leadership.
