Video: Teacher instills a little bit of Hope and a whole lot of Change

All that, plus a lesson on the war’s senselessness aimed squarely at a kid whose dad’s in the service.

I’d call it a mid-day palate cleanser, but somehow I don’t feel cleansed. Click the image to watch.

Update: Tundra Tabloids had the story on Tuesday.

Diantha Harris: Now I can support whomever I want to support, as long as I don’t browbeat another person for the candidate that they supported. Like I have some students that support John McCain, and when they told me that, I said ah … “that’s good’ and I just moved on. So, I think that everybody is entitled to their own personal opinion.

Apparently, she has learned well from President-elect Obama, too. Look at her statement. She is clearly lying.

Kind of reminiscent of….

“Bill Ayers is a guy in my neighborhood.”

and so on, and so on…..We don’t need to rehash the recent pass.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 6, 2008 at 3:46 PM

I love the whole “It’s OK to be for McCain” followed by an insulting remark every time it come up.

As an elementary school teacher in a public school classroom, I am embarrassed that this woman is allowed to teach our children, much less gets paid for doing so.

There are good teachers and ones there simply for the paycheck..then there are those such as this woman that spew their venom and assume it is their job to imprint their views on impressionable young minds.

It is our job as educators not to impose our views and opinions on our students, but rather to guide them to learn to make their own informed decisions as they learn and grow into adults. It is certainly not our responsibility to try and indoctrinate our views on young minds then ridicule or humilate those that have an original thought or idea that don’t agree with our own.

I’ve had, of course, many discussions over the past few weeks about the election process in our country with my students. The reasons for and process of democracy is an important lesson for everyone to learn. (some adults included) I made sure to emphasize that even if our opinions differed on who to vote for, the important thing was to be informed and participate in the process.

We need to get back to the process of raising young Americans that are proud of their country and willing to be a part of keeping it strong..rather than ones that are intent on dividing it or simply complaining rather than doing something to fix the problems we experience. Raising young citizens that support the office of the Presidency and treat it with respect, even when you disagree with the person in the office.

That said, this woman has NO place in a classroom..period.

My daughter is proud her Daddy is in the military, and I bet this little girl is just as proud. Still, if someone told my little one that her Daddy might have to stay in the Navy for 100 more years, she’d be upset and ready to cry too – because she would believe the teacher. After all, teachers are seen by children as the Bastions of Truth, are they not? The girl in the video has been dealt a nasty blow by this “teacher,” and I hope the parents and their friends get involved. Her dad has sacrificed much to ensure that lunstic there has the right to spout off nonsense… but there’s a time and a place for hatin’ on the military (if that floats your boat). The classroom, in front of a military child that has also sacrificed much, is not that time and/or place.

This infuriates me, and honestly, I have an impulse to yank my own daughter out of school ASAP. I won’t, though, unless crap like this happens at her school.

From Atlas shrugs:

The average American would be outraged to know that a teacher would knowingly and willingly browbeat and belittle a student in class for her choice of a presidential candidate, but that is exactly what happened, in front of a camera no less, in a grade school in Ashville, North Carolina.
But this is no ordinary teacher, she is Diantha Harris, the ex-wife of Roy Harris, the man who asked George Bush Sr. in the Rose Garden of the White House, to visit his family in N.Carolina in 1992.

Asheville is a liberal enclave in the mountains, surrounding areas are very conservative however.

Heath Schuler is the Congressman there, he got elected in the 06 wave b/c the GOP congressman had some corruption stuff. he ran as a conservative democrat, so Asheville isn’t big enough yet to control the district.

perhaps we should call Schuler and demand he do something. Put a democrat in awkard spot

Darth Executor on November 6, 2008 at 3:49 PM

The palate is a part of your mouth used for tasting. Therefore a cleanser would be something – usually sherbet or something else with very little flavor – used to get the taste of the meal out of your mouth, often in preparation for another course.

In a figurative sense, it’s something used to override a foul mood, usually with light humor or some good news. In this case however, it’s Allah’s sarcasm.

I don’t know why anyone here is surprised. Since the 1960’s the education system from top to bottom has been infiltrated by marxists and overrun by far left morons. Also, I don’t know if anyone has noticed but lately many of those passing themselves off as teachers are complete imbeciles. I think the unions are the biggest part of the problem and also the Dept of Ed. It is criminally easy to become a teacher. Honestly, it is the easiest degree to get. I know, because I looked into it but realized I would never be able to stand the administration side of it all.

I have been hatching a plan for new elementary and primary schools along the lines of Hillsdale College. NO GOV’T FUNDING and completely conservative. I want to get a good business plan together and then I will contact some conservatives with clout and deep pockets. We have to take back our education system from these indoctrinators!

My daughter’s American History teachers got around it though, by telling the students (high school) that they like elephants :) That’s not to say that they don’t have teachers who’s preferences are loud and clear, even if they don’t say it. But at least there’s a policy in place.

Affirmative Action at its finest. Well….nearly. Putting an African American in the Oval Office is Affirmative Action at its finest.

That was the quote. And maybe I’m picking nits here, but “putting an African American in office is affirmative action” seems like quite a broad brush to be using. It implies that any African American is unqualified to hold office, which is racist. And txsurveyor, I’ve read your comments before, so I know that you didn’t mean it that way, but this site is viewed by people not of our political stripe…and these are the kinds of comments that get published in others’ blogs as evidence of conservatives’ inherent racism.

Its time to stop public funding of the school system. We’re spending way too much money for much too little.

Look at the percentage of dropouts in this country compared to others! And then, look at how much money we’re spending compared to others.

Then look at basic intelligence of the ones that do graduate…

Its infuriating and sad at the same time.

So… many… terrible… comments…

*lurks*

You think she feels good she was able to outdebate a five year old? I bet she thought she couldn’t do it. Probably told all her friends how she told off that McCain supporter.

That’s child abuse if I ever saw it. BTW…if that was a documentary on Finnish TV, they must have some primetime line-up.

AmericanUnderground on November 6, 2008 at 4:04 PM

Just talked to Ashland school districts main office and asked if she has been fired yet. They will “call me back” We’ll see.

LimeyGeek on November 6, 2008 at 4:05 PM

That woman is a disgrace to teaching.

By the way, is anybody else getting their barf bags ready for when the Dragon Lady meets Laura Bush next week at the WH?

I had a little boy. I gave him up for adoption before I even gave birth to him. He will be 14 this spring.

upinak on November 6, 2008 at 4:06 PM

It’s been the big headline at Drudge this afternoon.
Of course the MSM will spin it and keep President-Elect Barack H. safe.

carbon_footprint on November 6, 2008 at 4:00 PM

yes but they are not pinning it to Obama’s election. Even at drudge the story is about CSCO earnings etc. The market knew all thiis crap before the election and rallied 18% off the lows 9again no right wing bloggers picked that story up either) that the market rallied when McCain’s polls numbers improved going into the final week per th eTIpp/IBD poll. No right wing bloggers are researching the crash occurring in the coal industry stocks that can be directly laid at Obama’s feet over the last two days coal stocks have lost 30%

So how can the America people be expected to vote the right way when they are not given the correct information. the Dow will keep dropping and the dems will continue to blame Bush until we call them on it.

The dow was at 9511 at the close of tues. before the election of Obama I will bet we will not see that number again in the next 4 years.

Republican on November 6, 2008 at 4:05 PM

I hope Laura doesn’t try to hand Michelle her coat, saying “mine’s a julep”.

ConservativePartyNow on November 6, 2008 at 4:06 PM

what do you mean now, where have you been?

beththebaker on November 6, 2008 at 4:07 PM

Pelosi is already running some damage control on this. Today she basically said W screwed everything up so bad it’s going to take a long time to fix it. She knows Obama’s election is definitely not going to instill confidence in markets, so blame it all on Bush in advance!

forest on November 6, 2008 at 4:00 PM

correct and we are allowing them to get away with it.

Wow. You must have been young. Sounds like a tough episode. I’m proud to know you….albeit via the net!

LimeyGeek on November 6, 2008 at 4:09 PM

know, can you beleive this? The biggest post-election drop EVAH and not a word form the MSM or a post from HA…no biggie, right? So the Congress wants to take and manage all our 401k’s for us. That makes me sleep better at night.

JustTruth101 on November 6, 2008 at 4:00 PM

it amazes me. coal stocks down 30%, market down 10% crash numbers the market is fleeing Obama and his policies and not one word from Hotair. I don’t know if they don’t care, if this is being gracious losers, working with Obama etc, coming together or what but the dems are already out saying its bushes fault.

unseen on November 6, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Republican, Laura Bush will be gracious as always. Evil Eyebrows won’t be able to hold a candle to any First Lady in history. When Obama won the US Senate seat, at the victory party she introduced her husband as “my baby’s daddy”. I understand that is pop culture slang, but please show some class.

sherry on November 6, 2008 at 4:10 PM

This is only the beginning. Over the next few years if you aren’t doing this in your classroom you will find yourself on the street.

johnsteele on November 6, 2008 at 4:00 PM

Trust me, if this is what is ever required in the classroom, I’ll walk (run) out the door for good without being told and not look back even though I love teaching.

As it is, I only teach part-time now because of the direction education and the “No Child left behind (left untested)” is headed. I only have so much patience and tact left.

The rest of the time I spend in the air as a flight attendant. Some days it’s not much different there with the maturity level and ignorance or lack of common sense of many adults than when I’m in the classroom.
