Video: Joe the Watchdog

posted at 11:50 am on November 6, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Ashley Martella interviews Joe Wurzelbacher, AKA, Joe the Plumber, for Newsmax, and it turns out that Joe may not stick with plumbing. After his rather unique experiences, Joe wants to get into politics, at least as a watchdog. He rejects the idea of running for office, but Wurzelbacher wants to keep an eye on those who do:

Asked if he still plans to buy a plumbing business, as he originally stated, or to run for elected office, Joe said he could “better serve my fellow man by working with a new watchdog group I’m coming up with,” called Secure Our Dream.com, “that essentially will hold politicians accountable and make them remember that they actually got into this business to serve their fellow man, and not themselves.” …

Joe declared that for the Republicans to “get back into the game” following their election defeat, “they’ve got to remember that they’re conservatives.

“As soon as people say the Republican Party, all they think about is big business and corporations and guys that make $30 million a year. That’s not the case. I’ve voted Republican a lot in my lifetime because of conservative core values that built America. That’s what I think they need to get back to.”

Wurzelbacher refuses to blame Barack Obama for his treatment by Ohio state officials, but does believe that Democrats organized to attempt to discredit him. That’s why he wants to remain involved, as he says, to ensure that citizens can question their leaders without fear. For those of us who watched as Joe got savaged by the media, we can only hope that he succeeds.

Of course, not everyone in the media will probably agree (language warning):

KGO talk show host Charles “Karel” Bouley has been suspended from his duties after he said the f-word over the air.

The host apparently thought his mic was off. …

Karel was heard saying, “I want mother-f—ing Joe the plumber dead.”

Karel’s Saturday show is pre-empted by a football game. KGO has not announced officially what will happen during his Sunday slot.

I work in radio, and I know that hosts blow off steam during commercial and news breaks, assuming the producer has turned off the mikes. However, I’ve never worked with one who wished someone dead.  What did Wurzelbacher do to generate that kind of response?  Ask a question?

Small wonder Wurzelbacher fears for America after his experiences.

Charles Bouley, should be in jail and charged for saying that. To many nuts, and could still have put Joe in danger for his life. All in the name of Politics. But mainly the Truth.

Wow, the astroturfers are not giving up, are they?

Dude…Joe Wurzelbacher was just a guy standing around in his yard when Barack Obama showed up to try to use him as a prop for his socialist agenda. Obama is the liar, and with one simple comment Joe exposed him.

If the Democrats had left him alone and John McCain not gotten desperate and used him in the last debate, I suspect Joe would have just gone back to his life and his 15 minutes would have been over. But the Democrats decided to dig dirt on him, McCain decided he was the lifeline for a failing campaign, and he was an overnight celebrity.

The guy obviously has strong political views, but so do a lot of average people. The asshole media have made sure he won’t be able to buy that plumbing business he wanted, and he has to make a living somehow. Why should he not cash in a little on hsi fame, especially if he is going to do it in a way that will actually be a public benefit?

I’ve had the same idea of starting a watchdog website to keep tabs on the Obama administration. But Joe wants to do it for ALL politicians, which is even better.

LibertarianConservative on November 6, 2008 at 11:59 AM

I agree. $250,000. $200,000. $150,000. Finally $120,000. And, in 2004, $70,000.

We still don’t know what Obama considers “wealthy”, but the number changes daily.

With regard to Joe, where was the lie? He wanted to purchase a business which the owner had said he would sell to Joe upon the owner’s retirement. He was in a recognized Ohio plumbers’ apprenticeship program. He said that the business might pull down over $250,000 if he had the money to purchase more capital equipment (e.g., a truck). At the very least, he was a blue collar worker with a dream, and he communicated that dream quite effectively to Mr. Obama from a rope line placed by the Obama campaign practically at Joe’s doorstep. It was Mr. Obama who stated quite clearly that Joe ought to get used to having his money taken away and given to other less fortunate people. And it’s the sentiment in that answer that made Joe famous.

Joe’s question can be viewed as a hypothetical, and Obama, lawyer that he is, bit deeply on that hypothetical. And, from that standpoint, we all learned a bit more about Obama’s viewpoint on who owns the results of their work.

I fail to see the lie, unless it’s in Obama’s answer.

At first I thought this was a sarcastic post…but you really meant it didn’t you?…amazing,
*

his man lied his rear-end off for the spotlight

So you think he knew that Obama was coming down his street, and he planned this question just for that occasion?

The guy was NOT, ever, a licensed Plumber

Only a licensed plumber can ask questions of a candidate, I missed that memo, or you have to be licensed to be interviewed by the media?

he never was supposed to buy a business

So you know what he was “supposed” to do? He was supposed to buy a business? By whose dictate?

people started digging, and that’s when they found out that he was a liar

What did they dig that was a lie? That he worked as a plumber for a licensed contractor, that he owed taxes (did he ever say he didn’t)?

the only thing he ever was, was someone who worked, as a unlicensed helper, in a plumbing business.

Therefore he is unworthy to make any comment or ask questions…and who made you the head of this department? What are your credentials (besides living with your aunt and blogging from her basement).

The truth does not really matter, as long as it fits the narrative.

Was this a self analysis?

and, hey, I didn’t vote for Barry, so, don’t start that shit with me now. I voted for Barr.

LibertarianConservative on November 6, 2008 at 12:05 PM

Well, that explains that weird post…I should have guessed. Cheetos and a coke is your diet, right? Oh no, you’re a libertard, they always belong to mensa…

Joe the 14:59:59er.

Next.

Dave Rywall on November 6, 2008 at 12:29 PM

Actually, I thought that was rather witty. Thanks for introducing me to a new experience – not thinking you’re an uphill gardener.

I actually fu*ked that up. It should be 14:59:99er.
Thank God one of us is straight on this.

Dave Rywall on November 6, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Somehow, I don’t think Libertarian/Conservative understands what it means to be…

Yeah, Ohio officials overstepped their bounds. Too bad MSNBC, etc. didn’t think it was a story worth reporting. Think they’ll start reporting the news if Obama starts to stray from the left? One hand washes the other, except in a socialist economy. Won’t be surprised when some of the most vocal supporters start getting (literally) thrown under the bus.

jakabok_botch on November 6, 2008 at 12:40 PM

LibertarianConservative is banned.

I know that’s tongue-in-cheek, but wanting the Presidency to succeed is not equal to wanting the nation to succeed.

It’s not tongue in cheek. Wanting the president to succeed, at least in terms of foreign policy, is very much in the national interest.

Allahpundit on November 6, 2008 at 12:36 PM

from another post…

right2bright on November 6, 2008 at 12:41 PM

You know, this idiot is one of the reasons McCain lost. The guy was NOT, ever, a licensed Plumber, he never was supposed to buy a business, ever, the only thing he ever was, was someone who worked, as a unlicensed helper, in a plumbing business.

He never said that he was a licensed plumber. He said he was a plumber. And since that’s how he spent his days, it was an accurate statement. He didn’t need to have a license.

He said that he wanted to buy a business. He never said that he was getting ready to sign the papers.

As to your claims to being libertarian and conservative, your posts shows that both claims are lies.

MarkTheGreat on November 6, 2008 at 12:41 PM

Wurzelbacher refuses to blame Barack Obama for his treatment by Ohio state officials

I fault Obama for not denouncing said actions.

Yo, Libertarian, are you lonely? because you spend a lot of time on this comment section saying whatever necessary to get people’s attention and change the conversation to you.

Kat_Mo on November 6, 2008 at 12:46 PM

Geez RB, which thread was that on that Allah banned him?

I’d like to jump on the bandwagon of those attacking LC for having the audacity to actually have cast a vote for Bob Barr. I mean, how dare he vote however he pleases! People like him just shouldn’t be allowed to waste their vote in such a manner. I honestly believe that committing such a sin is too grievous for even Jesus to forgive…

Troll or idiot? hmmmm Both.

Sounds a lot like a Libtard troll.

Joe never claimed he was a LICENSED plumber only that he was a plumber, dummy. He never claimed that he was going to buy the business only that he would like to buy it someday.

You are not smart enough to be either a Libertarian or a Conservative.

LibertarianConservative on November 6, 2008 at 12:06 PM

The only “facts” you are dealing with is the fantasy world your mind is in. A liberal is unable to sustain their points they are only able to indulge in name calling or telling someone to go !!!!!!
