Video: Fox News drops another load of dirty laundry on Palin

Unlike the first clip, this one does corroborate some of the details in the Newsweek report — sort of. Newsweek claims Palin appeared to McCain’s aides in a bath towel; Cameron says it’s a bathrobe. It’s not clear if he’s lifting that story from the piece or if he got it from a source firsthand; if the latter, then there’s either one very determined person leaking to multiple news outlets or … it’s a full-court press.

Whichever it is, you’ll never hear the word “uncommon” uttered as pejoratively as you will here.

I assume this is a sign that Maverick’s headed back to the center, because if he thinks the base is sore at him now, wait until his cronies’ attempts to scapegoat their idol start percolating. The boss’s reaction is emblematic, I’d guess. Exit question: I wonder what Greta, who was chiding the media just 12 hours ago for trying to destroy the ‘Cuda, thinks of these little Cameron segments.

Update: E-mailers are claiming Romney people must be the leakers since Mitt’s the obvious beneficiary of smearing Palin. Two things about that. One, the dirt in the Newsweek piece was leaked on condition that it not be published until after the election. If Romneyites were looking to tear Palin down, the time to leak would have been before the vote to try to sabotage McCain and clear Mitt’s path to 2012. Two, some of this stuff — like the bathrobe story — would have to have come from high-ranking McCain staffers with direct access to Palin. Were there any Romney people that high up in Maverick’s campaign? If not, would people who were that high up be inclined to whisper about it to Romney people and risk them leaking it, especially after all the bad blood between the two sides during the primary?

Update: Ace reminds me that Politico quoted an unnamed McCain aide — probably Randy Scheunemann — two weeks ago as saying Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace (neither of whom is a Romney person) would be the ones trying to tear down Palin. Right or wrong? Read this pool report of a press gaggle with Schmidt aboard McCain’s plane on Monday. Twice a reporter asked him to confirm that he was happy with Palin on the ticket. Twice, no reply. Doesn’t mean he’s the leaker, but it’s “uncommon,” to borrow a phrase.

If this is untrue, why doesn’t Palin come out and deny it.

Palin is not the future leader of conservatism. She is a nice gal who would have made a good enough VP and now should remain Governor of Alaska.

indythinker on November 6, 2008 at 11:53 AM

Why is everybody so surprised?

That’s what you get when you suck up to a network and give them more access than anyone else and you confide more to them than anyone else and then you fu*k up and lose the election.

They’re going to turn on you.

Take your lumps.

Lets get Sarah nominated in 2012. As soon as she starts her PAC I will start donating.

Once again, me too. Check out Team Sarah website. They may have some more info there. I’m going to e-mail her today with many encouraging words and my promise of support for her as President in 2012.

Someone should make a political cartoon with Palin about a foot from the finish line dragging McCain who is being held back by back dozen of his campaign staff.

cadams on November 6, 2008 at 12:00 PM

Had he not chosen Sarah, I guarantee that it would have been a blue map almost across the board. Conservatives everywhere would have stayed home. She saved his butt from being relegated to Michael Dukakis status.

webproze on November 6, 2008

Exactly. What is going on now is merely an embarrassing attempt to deflect attention away from a poorly run and un-organized campaign..to deflect attention away from the fact that the person at the top of the ticket, John McCain, never took the reins nor acted Presidential. The buck, whether it is fair or not, stops squarely at his feet. He is responsible for his staff and their actions. He is the one that chose to run for the highest office in the land (and the world for that matter).

Since this ridiculous “uproar” started, he has not issued one statement to put out any of the rumor fires that have been started by cowardly staffers he employed. He didn’t have much of my respect to begin with, but has lost any that remains through his actions in the past couple of days. I was willing to vote for him because of my beliefs and the fact that he was our party’s candidate, but his choice of Sarah made me more enthusiastic about that vote.

Sarah, on the other hand, has been nothing but gracious and discrete..refusing to lower herself to the level of her anonymous accusers. She made the statement of John McCain that she “loves him and honors him”.

I, for one, would have been shocked if she HADN’T been frustrated and furious each morning to read the press clippings raking her and her family over the coals each and every day. She has presented herself as a fighter. Is she perfect? Of course not. Is she tough and not afraid to show her feisty side and true opinions on the issues? Absolutely.

SassyDarlin on November 6, 2008 at 12:01 PM

And so it begins … the MSM and the Liberalocracy know that their future depends on launching a preemptive strike against the points of hope for Republicans, and most definitely “the base” i.e. Conservatives.

So, they’re going to nuke Palin early and often. Watch as the Diva/Dumb-ass meme spews outward.

These people are nothing if not single minded.

MadisonConservative on November 6, 2008 at 12:18 PM

Is anyone really surprised that McCain’s people are bitter backstabbing bastards. Just look at their boss! They have learned from the best.

McCain’s crowd never wanted a social conservative on the ticket and only did so in order to bolster support among the social cons and evangelicals. They resented having to pander to the right when they really wanted to swing further to the left to appeal to DEMOCRATS. It was a failed strategy who McCain himself is utterly responsible for.

All that being said, it really is unseemly and classless for McCain’s people to be attacking Palin when their cranky old boss is really the one they should be blaming for their sudden unemployment.

highhopes on November 6, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Bill OReilly’s big on boycotts you know. Let’s show him a boycott he’ll never forget!!!

Sarah is the person we rallied around! Let’s face it, we were all prepared to vote for the party, but not necessarily McCain. But I voted for Sarah Palin on 11.4.08 and I’ll do it again given the opportunity.

I am taking nothing against Jindal, Pawlenty, etal. Not at all!!! They may ALL be just what this party needs. Nothing wrong with having EXCELLENT choices. I would also like to throw Mike Pence – Indiana into the mix. He’s great.

McCain is toast. Time to look towards the new crop of promising conservatives and start planning for 2010 elections.

As for this stupid Palin soap opera… WHO CARES except for the country club republican elites who have joined liberals in turning their noses up at common people. Guess what? Your days of power and influence have come to an end and real conservatism (NOT “compassionate”) will rise from the ashes.

Is there any solids in this fluid shit that’s been leaked.
Anyone verifying it up front in their name?

the_nile on November 6, 2008 at 12:30 PM

There’s really nothing mysterious here. Sarah Palin’s popularity amongst the GOP base is a MORTAL THREAT to the current GOP power structure..and for that reason, they will try to destroy her.

Mark my words: over the next 2-4 years, you are going to witness these people attempt to transform the GOP into the American version of the British Conservative Party, which should just rename itself the Less Liberal Party. Sarah Palin would serve as a bulwark against those attempts.

People, the hard Left of the 60’s variety has just reclaimed the Democratic party. But just as they did before, they will grossly overreach in the way that arrogant idealists always do. Americans will re-embrace less govt, less taxation, strong defense, and national pride, but there needs to be a party that stands for those principles – not a Less Liberal Party.

Let’s make sure that there is such a party left for the American people to come home to.

I won’t say “Sarah Palin in 2012!” because I simply don’t know whether or not she would be the best candidate then. But I can enthuastically say “Palinism in 2012!”

rvastar on November 6, 2008 at 12:30 PM

And we can begin by finding a conservative challenger to John McCain. Isn’t he up for re-election in 2010…?

CliffHanger on November 6, 2008 at 12:31 PM

Sarah is the person we rallied around! Let’s face it, we were all prepared to vote for the party, but not necessarily McCain.

Which is why it’s important we rid the party of the McCain wing of Democrat wannabes as quickly as possible. They thought they were the smart kids with the strategy that would lead the party to victory. They deliberately sought to exclude social conservatives and evangelicals from any role within the party. They adopted variations on the Democrat platform instead of standing up for Republican principles. Instead of victory, they were the architects of failure because they sacrificed all the core values of the GOP in the name of electability. The sooner McCain and like-minded liberal Republicans are dealt with, the sooner the party can start organizing and preparing for 2010 and 2012- not to mention exploiting each and every gaffe and bad policy decision from the debacle that will be the Obama era of bad stewardship.

highhopes on November 6, 2008 at 12:33 PM

The republican party had better be careful now. The DNC machine & the RINO party will spend the next 4 years undermining and destroying Palin,Jindal,Crist,Steele, & any other young, future leader of the party.

portlandon on November 6, 2008 at 12:34 PM

This is standard stuff from the “moderation” and “future of conservatism” crowd: Disparage successful conservative figures to embarrass us into silence. Its loathsome. We must resist the temptation to expect our representatives to be paragons — or more importantly, to believe this crap.

The “clean-fingernail” crowd demands that any conservative or Republican live like a monk so that they won’t have to defend them at cocktail parties. The strange thing about this is the reflexive tendency of many “cerebral” conservatives (particularly the Ivy League set) to avoid attacking figures from the Left. You see, they are above that sort of thing because they inhabit the lofty realm of ideas.

Politics most of the time is a battle, not a debating society. If our opponents are calling for a gang rape of one of ours, we can’t stop that by appealing to Aristotelean Logic, Robert’s Rules of Order, or pleas for moderation. The only response is to give them a heaping dish what they served. Why should all the blood letting occur on our side?

kwh on November 6, 2008 at 12:34 PM

You guys must at least be breathing a sigh of relief that FOX chose to hold on to these little tidbits until after the election.

Dave Rywall on November 6, 2008 at 12:34 PM

Losers [Byron York]

There are a lot of things you can do when you finish a losing campaign. You can sleep for 30 hours straight. You can get drunk. Your can reflect on what went wrong and why your side lost. Or you can immediately dump every unflattering tidbit you know — or think you know — about your colleagues to the press.

That is the route some McCain campaign staffers have decided to pursue with regard to Sarah Palin. Within hours of McCain’s loss, they were dishing on everything Palin did or didn’t do, everything she did or didn’t know, and why they, the staffers, bore no responsibility for anything that went wrong.

Did Palin once answer a knock on her hotel room door dressed in a bathrobe? Get it out there!

The question here is not whether Palin was a good or a bad choice for vice president. Reasonable people disagree on that one. It’s about the character of the McCain campaign. There is no doubt that it included some fine people who, whatever their opinions, wouldn’t be involved in this kind of behavior. But it also, obviously, included some who would. John McCain ran for president, to some large degree, on the character he had displayed throughout his life. Not so for some of those around him. What a bunch of losers.

I waited for two hours, in the hot sun, to see Sarah Palin at a rally in my area. I would have gladly waited longer. Before Palin I would’ve voted against Obama. Once she was on the ticket I was excited to vote FOR McCain.

She’s so much better than the anonymous idiots saying these things.

Deeanne on November 6, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Politico has a response to the Palin smearers from an unnamed senior GOP congressional aide. He lays into the staffers and says, among other things, that “McCain needs to tells his minions to lay off” Sarah.

meltenn on November 6, 2008 at 12:44 PM

Isn’t it even a little possible that she’s just not qualified.

DeathToMediaHacks on November 6, 2008 at 12:08 PM

I’d say that serving as the Chief Executive of a state more than qualifies her to serve our country. Many of our past Presidents have had NO prior experience beyond their Gubernatorial tenure and have managed to hold the office of President..some more admirably than others. She has been to date, the only FEMALE governor to receive a nod toward such a National post.

“The executive branch of each state is responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of government, providing services and enforcing the law. It is led by a governor, elected by statewide ballot for a two- or four-year term, depending on the state.”

Many of these attacks have nothing to do with her qualifications to serve and are things taken out of context simply to portray her in an unflattering light.

There were no questions or attention given to the male candidates wardrobe expenses or whether or not they might not have liked their press coverage..much less if they tried or not to insert their own opinions on the campaign trail as to what might work best given a particular set of circumstances. Only Governor Palin seemed to need so much “handling”.

She would have the same learning curve as any other politician that has not been immersed in the Washington inner circle of cronies for decades in some areas such as foreign policy issues. Reagan, Bush 43, Carter and Clinton all came to office via the Governor office.

From what I’ve seen, and granted this is only my opinion..she is smart and learns from her experiences very quickly. She will adapt and will also be prominent in the new wave of Republicans about to emerge.

SassyDarlin on November 6, 2008 at 12:44 PM

She’s just getting started…

Well she’ll better start by learning a little more about the world and about how the media works. Because if she wants to run for POTUS in 2012 its going to be a very stif competition for her.
will13smith

Genius, you may be the only regular poster that doesn’t read posts. She has been open several times that she is a woman in responding to you…which shows you are only interested in what you are going to argue about, then the debate.

You are a little wimpy and creepy…don’t take it personal, just pointing it out…

John McCain alone is responsible for Sarah Palin as a candidate…Who cares about what some staffer, aide, campaign manager, journalist et al have to say about the matter. John McCain brought her to the National stage. It was a huge risk for him as a candidate. I would say that she fought a good fight for McCain considering her lack of experience. Get over it…Ooobamah won this thing as the MSM, foreign donors, and millions of messiah worshipers made it so. Time to leave Sarah Palin in peace…

This is the real downside of commenting on the politics of a country to which you do not possess citizenship.

You come off looking like a complete moron.

There are some significant pieces of data left out of that tabulation. Good case in point would be the abject rejection of proposition 8 in California. Rejection of gay marriage is a conservative principle, not a liberal principle. By examining the fact that the state in question was slightly more blue than in previous years based on presidential election choice, that completely obscures the fact it was a choice for a person not an ideology. Hence, the “work” as you put it, based upon your evidence is a logical fallacy.

Now Crawl back under your rock.

McCain on the other hand, is exposing his true colors to everyone else. Instead of wondering why, you should take this as a lesson, and ensure that if he decides to run again, that his campaign doesn’t even survive the first primary.

oh you guys. Dave is just a Canadian whom has probably never traveled outside of his little metro area.

I have actually traveled all over Canaduh as well as the U.S. and have a clue, unlike Dave.

Dave is just a wee wittle schtick in the mud compared to the rest of his country. If he had a clue about the rest of Canaduh, he might understand but since he hasn’t gone anywhere… how can Dave get a clue?

Not my problem… Dave is his own problem that Canaduh needs to take responsibility of.

Disappointing to see Cameron dishing the dirt as if it were indeed fact. I don’t like that Fox keeps playing his remarks.

None of this changes my mind about Palin. I guess none of these people ever heard of “hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.” Her entire family was written about in the most despicable manner we’ve ever seen. I don’t know about anyone else, but when I get mad, watch out, everyone becomes my target. I’m just surprised she didn’t go hunt down the people who wrote that trash.

moonsbreath on November 6, 2008 at 1:14 PM

Fox is dead to me!

The attacks on Palin are just that – attacks. People want her taken out, and some of those people are Republicans. Thinking that South Africa is a region rather than a country is nothing compared to saying that you’ve been to 57 states, or that President FDR gave fireside TV chats in 1929, but it’s something to whomp on her with and people who are so inclined are going to use anything that comes their way as a weapon against her.

Ronald Reagan wasn’t a Rhodes Scholar or Editor of the Harvard Law Journal, and – so what? Arguably the most miserably unsuccessful President we’ve ever had was Woodrow Wilson, a leading intellectiual and President of Princeton University. Brains are important up to a point, but you can hire brains. A leader needs character. Palin has it, and the brainiacs and worms are terrified.

Very common –
Theodore Roosevelt: Governor of New York from 1899-1901
Woodrow Wilson: Governor of New Jersey from 1911-1913
Calvin Coolidge: Governor of Massachusetts from 1919-1921
Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Governor of New York from 1929-1933
Ronald Reagan: Governor of California from 1967-1975
Jimmy Carter: Governor of Georgia from 1971-1975
Bill Clinton: Governor of Arkansas (Twice) from 1979-1981, and 1983-1992
George W. Bush: Governor of Texas from 1995-2000

There are some notable absences, like Truman, Ford, Nixon, Eisenhower, but very common.

Gee, I don’t know what’s making me laugh more:
-your amazing wit
-the amazing as* kicking your party just got across the entire country except pockets of the deep deep south
-how you’re all throwing FOX under the bus because they’re telling you the truth about the space vaccum between Palin’s ears – even thought they did you the favour of waiting until after the election

Hmmm – I’m gonna go with the as*kicking. THAT is comedy gold.

bye bye now

I guess this what you mean when”parents eat their young”,if McCain wasn’t “conservative” enough for you or if he wasn’t
“mavericky” enough for you, then why did you nominate the old bastard in the 1st place? Oh and by the way,Caribou Barbie WASN’T at the top of the ticket,McCain was so you were voting for him(as few that did )not her.

If you want to blame McCain for something you can start by picking someone that was:

(1)TOTALLY unqualified
(2)TOTALLY out of touch with the mainstream

This was a pick to try and lure the Hillary vote over to the Republicans and it backfired right in their faces. Maybe if McCain would’ve picked Mitt or Huckabee or Jindal they might’ve had a shot to win on Tuesday, instead they tried to lure guys with a “good looking gal” with spiked high heel shoes. And you people refuse to believe for a second that what “Campaign Carl” is saying is true. Palin looks like someone who has always got what she wanted and did things her way.

She has never been handled like this and if it’s true she was throwing “hissy fits” about her coverage, then it doesn’t take a rocket scienctist to figure out she was nothing but a spoiled brat that seized on the oppuntunity to get her 15 mins of fame and cash in on some of it’s perks.

This was a desperate attempt of a “hail mary” pass in the selection of Palin, for a campaign that knew it was going to lose and lose big, they should’ve tried to get the best person for the job but instead they thought all the single bguys in this country would vote for the head in their pants instead of the one on their shoulders

More sexist drivel. When I look at Sarah Palin I’m excited, all right, but I’m excited by the sight of a national political figure who is not afraid to be herself and is not ashamed of her religion or beliefs.

McCain is as big a lefty as Obama. Let’s not forget the whole Shamnesty thing. Not to mention gun control legislation attempts with Harry Reid. He’s not conservative at all! I only voted for the ticket because of Palin! It’s no surprise that his staffers are now attacking her. Just goes to show what low lifes were running his nonexistent campaign.

Marine_Bio I think you are on to something. First thing to do would be to bar any “just a senator”. Except if they have been a Governor first, say of Alaska. wink. Mc was a poster boy for what being a senator does for the mental capacities. Makes a big lets-just-get-along wussy out of one. ex gang of ten, campaign finance reform -barf-, enviro weeney krap, etc, etc. All the stuff Mc was famous for.
And yes I did vote for Palin and grumppy who happened to be on the ticket too.
The way I see it, for what it is worth.

I really wonder why Dave cares about American politics and Alaska other then Dave must be araid that Alaska (which I am hoping for) decides to just make our own gas pipeline and tell Canada to screw off.

Doesn’t Canaduh and Europe think they are better then everyone else? Until they start wondering where they are going to get their energy.. then it is HELP HELP!

I feel bad for that Canadianguy who comes in here. Straight shooter, seems down to earth… and yet here you have Dave, the typical Canadian, who just can’t catch a break.

From what I seen,it’s not over yet in Alaska(except for Palin) Stevens can still lose but your right, how crazy is this woman. Goes to show you how far these people will go to hold on to power

Dave is a liar. He is no more Canadian than McCain is a conservative. People like Dave hide behind their computers as a protection against suffering the consequences of his bizarre behavior. I suspect that he is a milk toast when face to face with a potential antagonist. So, he selects venues that allow him to act like a tough guy, yet be insulated from personal contact with those who are clearly more mature than he is. His cowardice is manifest in the manner in which he engages the people of Hot Air.

csdeven on November 6, 2008 at 1:51 PM

Anyone else notice how eager Carl Cameron seemed to air all this stuff? I was watching it last night and said to my husband, “Carl’s really hyper… it’s like he can’t wait to get all this out!” Carl couldn’t spit out the accusations fast enough. I don’t know if he was amped up on caffeine, or if Sarah pissed him off somehow and now he’s exacting his revenge, but geez.

Canadians and free speech… LOL HAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAA! He isn’t American

And if Caribou Barbie and “First Dude” had their way, neither would the state of Alaska since they supported a known traitor that wants Alaska to break away from the union, The Alaska Independence Party (AIP)

You remember what Joe Vogler said right?

Before his strange murder in 1993, party founder Vogler preached armed insurrection against the United States of America. Vogler, who always carried a Magnum with him, was fond of saying, “When the [federal] bureaucrats come after me, I suggest they wear red coats. They make better targets. In the federal government are the biggest liars in the United States, and I hate them with a passion. They think they own [Alaska]. There comes a time when people will choose to die with honor rather than live with dishonor. That time may be coming here. Our goal is ultimate independence by peaceful means under a minimal government fully responsive to the people. I hope we don’t have to take human life, but if they go on tramping on our property rights, look out, we’re ready to die.”
