Video: Fox News drops another load of dirty laundry on Palin

posted at 12:05 am on November 6, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | regular view

Unlike the first clip, this one does corroborate some of the details in the Newsweek report — sort of. Newsweek claims Palin appeared to McCain’s aides in a bath towel; Cameron says it’s a bathrobe. It’s not clear if he’s lifting that story from the piece or if he got it from a source firsthand; if the latter, then there’s either one very determined person leaking to multiple news outlets or … it’s a full-court press.

Whichever it is, you’ll never hear the word “uncommon” uttered as pejoratively as you will here.

I assume this is a sign that Maverick’s headed back to the center, because if he thinks the base is sore at him now, wait until his cronies’ attempts to scapegoat their idol start percolating. The boss’s reaction is emblematic, I’d guess. Exit question: I wonder what Greta, who was chiding the media just 12 hours ago for trying to destroy the ‘Cuda, thinks of these little Cameron segments.

Update: E-mailers are claiming Romney people must be the leakers since Mitt’s the obvious beneficiary of smearing Palin. Two things about that. One, the dirt in the Newsweek piece was leaked on condition that it not be published until after the election. If Romneyites were looking to tear Palin down, the time to leak would have been before the vote to try to sabotage McCain and clear Mitt’s path to 2012. Two, some of this stuff — like the bathrobe story — would have to have come from high-ranking McCain staffers with direct access to Palin. Were there any Romney people that high up in Maverick’s campaign? If not, would people who were that high up be inclined to whisper about it to Romney people and risk them leaking it, especially after all the bad blood between the two sides during the primary?

Update: Ace reminds me that Politico quoted an unnamed McCain aide — probably Randy Scheunemann — two weeks ago as saying Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace (neither of whom is a Romney person) would be the ones trying to tear down Palin. Right or wrong? Read this pool report of a press gaggle with Schmidt aboard McCain’s plane on Monday. Twice a reporter asked him to confirm that he was happy with Palin on the ticket. Twice, no reply. Doesn’t mean he’s the leaker, but it’s “uncommon,” to borrow a phrase.

So she covered up? These people have no idea what it’s like to be a busy female executive running a household with 5 kids. They’re lucky she covered up. When you’re busy juggling it all, you do what you can. Get used to the way a woman does things because she’ll be back. I’m looking forward to it.

Wow. It took all of 48 hours, but McCain is officially dead to me… again.

I voted Sarah, hoping she’d drag his tired butt across the finish line.

Sugar Land on November 6, 2008 at 8:24 AM

The vanity and sheer stupidiy of the McCain campaign became evident much earlier, when Mac refused to defend anything – anything but the surge – about the last eight years, even though a defense of Bush´s economic record would undoubtedly have helped him.

I am aware that Bush is currently unpopular, but so are people who will not stand up for their own party.

McCain needed the support of everyone who voted for Bush once or twice. If McCain can praise his opponent but not Bush, it makes him look small.

Also, you don´t sell a new car by admitting the flaws of the previous model. And nobody expects you to do that.

What we are seeing her is the same pattern of malicous pettiness.

el gordo on November 6, 2008 at 8:24 AM

Get their names and we’ll start making sure other politicians won’t hire them. We don’t need scum like this. Palin must be threatening these people like nothing else. Let’s clear her and Jindal’s way for 2012. Out with the RINO’s.

I saw this last night and Carl Cameron was literally frothing at the mouth during the last 2 minutes. I thought it was Olbermann in a Cameron mask.

Brat on November 6, 2008 at 8:27 AM

You have to ask yourself “If Palin was so popular and the marriage defense amendment won in Ca, why didn’t the GOP get better numbers in that state?”

One word….McCain.

All the rest of this gossip about Palin is just CYA from staffers looking torward thier next gig. And as long as the same people continue to run the same campaigns with the same old Good Ol’ Boy participants the same results are going to happen over and over.

mikkins on November 6, 2008 at 8:29 AM

Sounds to me like the finger-pointing by the McCain camp is growing exponentially.

They need someone to blame for the piss-poor campaign they ran and Sarah seems to be an easy target to them.

They didn’t campaign for the months of the divisive Dimwitocrat primaries, mistakenly assuming that the winner would be so wounded that they’d be easy pickin’s. They wandered all over the map in their attacks on the Obamessiah ranging from “chief re-distributor” to “Friend to domestic terrorists”, none of which really resonated.

If the campaign really wanted to show the leadership and guts that the American people were looking for, they would have advised Senator McCain to vote against the bail-out bill. That would have shown his ‘Maverick’ side and forced the Obamessiah to choose between his leadership and the bankers that have funded him and being a populist, and you know where he would have come down.

I think that the majority of this is BS and that it’s someone looking to point fingers of blame for the sorry excuse for a campaign that the McCain people ran. It was a pathetic excuse of an organization that never could maintain any momentum, wouldn’t respond to attacks, and rarely went on the offensive, except of course, with the person that they’re blaming for their failures.

Had he not chosen Sarah, I guarantee that it would have been a blue map almost across the board. Conservatives everywhere would have stayed home. She saved his butt from being relegated to Michael Dukakis status.

I have not been able to watch Fox since Election Night and that was with the sound down. All the Beltway Elitists are trying to tell the rest of us how to think. Well, they, along with all the Trolls that are trying to take over this site, had better “Gird Their Loins” ’cause this American KNOWS right from wrong, truth from deception and the difference between knowledgable people and those who don’t have a clue.
Conservative Americans are beginning to wake up to this carny game. My preacher said last night, “Don’t let all this mess change who YOU are.” He was exactly right. Conservatives – we have more similarities than we do differences. It is time to begin to come together and stop sniping at one another. By the way, ManlyRash – come back. We can always use your optimism.
Sarah Palin is the Governor of the largest state in the Union. She has an 80% approval rate. The “intelligentsia” cannot attack her on her history. They can only flail away with feather pillows.
Let’s cut through the garbage and start focusing on the important things…our families…our legacy…our country.

I see. I’m not forgetting this.

Spirit of 1776 on November 6, 2008 at 8:36 AM

I just read the times story. That’s a last straw moment for me with the Senator. It was Senator McCain that called on us to FIGHT!. We did, Sarah did. He well, he still has his job in the Senate.

Sorry he just lost his credibility “again” with me. Rush was right. Hannity was right. Like good Conservatives we all hunkered down for the party. And we lost. Time to rebuild.

You know what though, let me hear of him crossing the aisle with the Dems being so close to a filibuster prove majority. We would have to eject him from the party.

hawkdriver on November 6, 2008 at 8:36 AM

Palin was the only conservative on the ballot. The RINO staff members running McCain’s campaign believe that if he had just chosen a McCain “light” VP they would have won the election. Reality is that Palin brought a whole lot more to the ticket than she took away. McCain’s loss would have been much worse without her.

I’m sick to death about Fox News, the Republican party, and everyone else whose getting on the “come together with Obamanation” bus.

Fu*k them … someone the other night said that the Republican party needs to clear out the garbage and get some young fighters in the game who’ll stand up … damn skippy.

Now I have to go .. have an early meeting with my accountant to figure out how we’re going to get every cent I have invested in this country OUT and put it somewhere where it’s not going to be re-distributed to lazy assbags who don’t work or pay taxes .. nothing’s safe anymore ..

I always said this country is full of idiots .. now I have my proof .. somehow Obama got elected.

God help us all.

hawkdriver on November 6, 2008 at 8:22 AM

I didn’t even bother listening to his speech. I don’t listen to losers. McCain’s camp thought he was going to lose as early as before the tird debate. They never fought for it. They didn’t want it. They were losers and I hope and pray that whoever is the next nominee will never hire anyone that worked on this campaign. It was one of the worst run campaigns I can rememeber going back to Reagan.

They never used Gov Palin to effect. They used her as a prop as a 2 dollar hooker to drum up the base. She is so much better than that. I lost a lot of respect for Mccain in the final weeks. His inability to take the fight to the enemy. His failure to use any and all weapons at his ready. His failure to follow a specfic point. His campaign’s inability to vett and to do oppisition research.
I was upset a little tuesday night but now I’m feeling better. For the fisrt time since Reagan we have the oppurtunity to return the rep party to the people and kick the elite K-street crowd to the curb.

The rep party has to become the party of the people. We have to break the hold Obama has on the affluent middle class. We have to turn from the corparate welfare system that K-street enabled and use free markets for all.

Anti-trust must be a big part of the new rep party.

compare and contrast. McCain campaign: It was Palin’s fault

GOv Palin: via Malkin:
Palin arrives in Anchorage after a long trip home from Alaska. She holds a press conference. Refuses to comment on gossip spread by unnamed sources and “small, bitter” people saying “foolish things”…on relationship with McCain: No tension. “I love him…I honor him.”

Responding to a question on whether she has any “hurt feelings,” Palin laughs cheerfully. “This is politics! Of course not. It’s rough and tumble and you’ve got to have a thick skin just like I’ve got.”

Palin expresses “disappointment in the media — don’t take it personally

Murdoch must be afraid of the threat of the Fairness Doctrine. That makes no sense. He is going to sacrifice his ratings to stay in the graces of the Beltway Elite. And after he spent a wad of cash hiring Glenn Beck for the 4 p.m. Central Slot.

kingsjester on November 6, 2008 at 8:51 AM

Just a bunch of backstabbing losers that had no clue how to run a campaign. Without Palin there would not have been any reason to hold election. McCain’s staff was “bush” league and couldn’t get him elected to the P.T.A.

volsense on November 6, 2008 at 8:51 AM

Never again will I walk across the room to vote for a RINO. Never again. Sarah energized the entire base in an unbelievable manner within days. Remember the convention? It was unprecedented. The croissant crowd on McCain’s staff still doesn’t get the attraction we have to her.

If the RNC wants to purge itself of influential conservatives, then I’m done with it. It’s always the conservatives that need to compromise values. Enough. I’ve written the RNC to say so. I’ve told them the next time they trot out someone of non-conservative record, they’ll be losing the votes of me and my family. This was the last time I drank the across-the-aisle KoolAid.

John McCain promised to “name names and make people famous” and when that time presented itself with his friends Frank, Dodd, et al, he winced and declined. Enough. Burn it down and rebuild.

hoosiermama on November 6, 2008 at 8:53 AM

F&F Lovefest – I watched Wednesday and it was obviously forced. There were very much on the side of McCain-Palin. They have to just keep on keeping on.

I haven’t watched Fox except for F&F (which is on while I’m getting ready in the morning), but Carl Cameron might as well shut his mouth over Sarah Palin. WHY are they doing this to her? What’s the motivation? Who is he making room for? Are they simply trying to make HER decide to never return? Sounds that way to me!

If the GOP doesn’t include her in its future, it will be a cold day in hell before they have a Prez in the WH. What will that say to women everywhere?

Oink on November 6, 2008 at 8:53 AM

I don’t understand, How is this clear? It is far simpler to see CLEARLY this is disgruntled McCain getting his one/two in.

Noelie on November 6, 2008 at 7:40 AM

McCain is probably still reeling from defeat. I’m sure that the staff is going to send him off to somewhere nice, warm, and tropical so he can sulk, just like they did in 2000.

What is more likely is that the staff is trying to save their collective butts, futures, and invitations to Georgetown cocktail parties. McCain really has issues controlling his staff, which is why his campaign was so chaotic to begin with.

We need to herd these RINOs and toss them from the republican party. Its time we get back to our roots.

jbh45 on November 6, 2008 at 9:00 AM

I just don’t understand what it is about the GOP and conversatives. We run and lose and therefore it must be our fault. Oh wait, let’s dump on someone who we all admire because “they” said “she” did this. Give me a break. Palin was thrown into the stoplight, worked day and night, managed her family and still had time to do interviews. Oh, “she got angry” at someone. You could do better? We should be embracing our party and people, not taking the side of the MSM and try to destroy someone. Who do you think is spreading all this stuff about Palin, friends?? Nuff said.

I will act the same way Liberals toward President Bush. I don’t buy the crap many so call conservatives are saying about been civil for the good of the country. I will find a way to fight very hard to do the same liberal did for the last 8 years. I will never support any other Republican for any office unless he/she is a true conservative. This election was loss because Republican wanted to be like liberals and because Mc Cain lost his balls.

pukara61 on November 6, 2008 at 9:02 AM

Biden was a major embarrassment and you bet the Obama campaign knew it. But while they belatedly gagged him, they never disowned him. Not the base, not the pundits. They pretended he was a fine fella. Think about that.

The exit polls had 20% of conservatives voting for Obama. This is from John McCain sticking conservatives in the eye on many issues over the years. John’s chickens came home to roost.

Blaming Palin is absurd, and will not occupy the news for long.

If she applies herself to studying national security, economics and other topics, Sarah will be formidable by 2010.

She can rack up lots of favors by doing fundraisers for Republicans. Speeches on a range of topics can blow away this latest trash-talk.

It’s no wonder potential leaders who could potentially help this country refuse to step forward and put themselves and their families through this kind of crap. So we end up with faux leaders like Obama who have the political skills to survive and thrive in this kind of atmosphere but have no real skills or proper vision to lead this country.

RINO’s are officially dead as a viable alternative…

I suppose that Fox News realizes that if they want to get any interviews with Lord Barry an crew, they need to start toeing the line.

Folks, I thought Gov Palin was a magnificent lady. All this crap really bugs me. She still needs a prayer offered on her behalf as the rabid loons are still intent on destroying her. Just keep it in mind.

Da_Hutt on November 6, 2008 at 9:45 AM

This also seems to me another reason why she was so popular. She’s not a lawyer; she wasn’t “prepared” for office like so many others who “go to school”. She seems to be the type that says what she believes as best she can, without “arguing a case” like a lawyer (even though she needs to continue to improve on the art of persuasion, but HER way…it’s what I like about her).

That’s why we seem to see so many politicians (IMO anyway) who all seem to say things the same way. I feel like she “us” and those professional politicians are “them”. It almost looks like they’re saying “get out, this is our club. Oh…you won’t leave? Then we’re going to have to kick your ass”. I could go on and on about the psychology about why we like her so much, but I think get my meaning.

This smearing pisses me off more then it normally would for a politician, and I really don’t know why. Maybe more of that “us vs. them” thing, but it just pisses me off!

McCain and the Republican “leadership” and whiney little enablers like you have the election result you deserve. Please leave the Republican party. Conservatives would rather win with Sarah Palin in four years than win with a Democrat such as McCain.

Of course, in Mass you probably pass as a conservative at all the wine and cheese gatherings where you cheer for “Republicans” who believe in global warming. Don’t go away mad, don’t go away sad, just go away.

I wish FOX would just stop covering the story – learn a lesson from the MSM. Oh well, I suppose that is not going to happen, since it has been repeated over and over this morning.

Does anyone know of a way to send a message of support to her directly? Email or mail address? It would be great if she were flooded with thank you’s and congratulation letters from her supporters!

Spot on about RINO’s
It is now completely clear that conservatism is the only winning formula going foward.
There is no reason for the average voter to vote for a pale imitation of a Democrat.
People will gravitate toward the “strong horse” even if they have some doubts because they will respect it’s convictions most always.
Mccain and his feckless flunkies may have done us, as a party, a huge service by destroying this RINO brand by losing.

You can’t be serious. An unnamed staffer who was responsible for prepping Sarah for the Couric interview tells you that she refused prep after the interview came off as a disaster……and you believe it? The staffer did prep her and failed miserably. Now said staffer is trying to make sure he can get employed in the future.

As far as serving the country is concerned, one has to be willing to suffer the scrutiny of a hostile media before getting to opportunity to lead. Sarah served the country by giving them a choice they have never had….namely a republican female candidate for the VP slot. Hell, even JTP has served this nation because he hasn’t hid from the unfair media attacks.

You on the other hand, sit safely anonymous behind your computer leveling uninformed judgments against your betters. Tell you what, give us all your personal information so we can put it out there for 300 million Americans to scrutinize. And hopefully, the media will excoriate you as they did Sarah and Joe the Plumber.

You wont because you are a coward and any service you are willing to give doesn’t include opening up yourself and your family to humiliation based on vile lies.

I voted Sarah because her values were the closest to mine. McCain is finally finished. The Democrats were smart enough to see they needed fresh faces. The nation does not deserve Sarah.

Thanks, Hawkdriver. It’s an honor to be here. Has anyone seen Manly since Election Night?

kingsjester on November 6, 2008 at 8:42 AM

Manly promised to leave if McCain lost and he has done so. Grue received an email from him and posted it on a thread yesterday.

Doufree,
As a conservative,I know why you would vote for Barr, but why would you vote for BHO?

DJ from MA on November 6, 2008 at 10:03 AM

McCain’s campaign was going nowhere before the arrival of Gov. Pslin…….. time to get rid of the RINOS and McCain should be the first to be expelled

ronsfi on November 6, 2008 at 10:07 AM

Interesting. McCain staffers are attempting to buffoonishly explain away their candidate’s predictable loss. Let’s be clear: McCain was a bad candidate, who exemplified, as a politician, everything that’s wrong with the current GOP in Washington. That’s the reason he lost. Trying to play a game of Pin the Blame on Palin’s is a fool’s errand. Of course, the people responsible might as well go back to their day job of pulling wings off of butterflies, because they have become radioactive, and any candidate that they work for or support will become so as well.

Of course, they can always go work for the Democrats. I’m certain that their desire to blame actual conservatives and libertarians will help them fit right in.

One huge problem I saw…. WTF was up with them having Campaign Rallys in places like lumberyards in Miami.
I live in Florida, and last week I was considering going to one of his rally’s… Closest one was in a Lumber Yard in Miami.. I can see having it in a Lumber Yard in Oregon, or Maine. But Miami? Pi$$ poor planning for picking where to have their venues.

Fox news & the McCain team dirt bags.As a true conserv. i voted for McCain because of Palin but now i have lost all respect for McCain i am glad he lost. Now we can rebuild this party faster.

thmcbb on November 6, 2008 at 10:19 AM

Conservatives everywhere would have stayed home.

webproze on November 6, 2008 at 8:31 AM

Well, from the math that’s been done on this site, a lot of conservatives did stay home or didn’t vote for McCain at all. The totals are down overall, and the Repubs had a much lower turnnout.

eanax on November 6, 2008 at 10:20 AM

I am still waiting for Mccain to come to defened Sarah’s honor, he was very anxious to defend Obama more than Obama’s campaign.

Sarah was minding her own business in Alaska. Mccain saw that the base won’t be voting for him; he needed someone to rally the base. So, he goes after Palin, uses her when he needs her and now throws her to dogs. He’s so scummy.

promachus on November 6, 2008 at 10:23 AM

We allowed the MSM to meddle and pick our candidate with their lovefest for McCain. We knew why they did it then, and we know why now.

Starlink on November 6, 2008 at 10:13 AM

I agree, but some still don’t beleive they had that level of influence. I absolutely beleive they stated more than eight years ago pumping him up for the ultimate fall.

“Come on John, you know you’re the only one in the Republican Pary who can reach out and relate to us liberalsin the media. Take your party on.” snicker snicker

And a “loser pays” civil law system. And term limits. And a repeal of the 17th Amendment…

eanax on November 6, 2008 at 10:25 AM

McCain picked Palin to energize the base and she did that.

Many people ask why her and not a more visible and experienced candidate.

The reason is that first, he hates conservatives.

Second, he knew he needed them and Sarah is a conservative.

Third, McCain is such a weak candidate, he needed a conservative that didn’t outshine him. He failed at that because Sarah, despite his staffs attempts to marginalize her, spoke eloquently to conservative values.

They purposely ill prepared her for her interviews with hostile media in order to weaken her in comparison to McCain. This is the reason she didn’t do Bill O, Chris Wallace, and other fair minded media venues. She would have been given the opportunity to shine in a venue that played to her strengths. And considering her recent interviews, she certainly would have held her own.

Lastly, now that he has achieved his goal of giving a concession speech, it’s time for him to slap the conservatives on his way to oblivion. Sarah, being an honest person who was not thinking she needed to protect herself in case of a humiliating loss, has become the victim of what is wrong with Washington insider politics. A serious lack of morality, honor, intellectual honesty, and accepting responsibility for ones actions.

Those are the facts….. and now that the campaign is over, I can reveal that I have first hand intimate knowledge of the facts as they played out inside our campaign. John was trying to walk a very fine line between using Sarah to energize the base while accentuating her negatives and playing down her superior conservative credentials. I can also tell you that John has a need of sorts to be in situations that allow him to engage in sanctimonious posturing. EG: Does anyone recognize how miserably he performed while disseminating his positions on the trail, yet spoke so succinctly at his concession speech? John’s focus is on how he ends and not how he got there. His experience as a POW has shaped that attitude in his life. John will always be the perennial loser who does so with honor. He fulfilled that prophesy in this campaign. I believe not by intention, but by a result of a systemic makeup of his personality.

The biggest fault I have with John is his dislike for conservatism in it’s purest form. I wish he had a modicum of that same distaste for the left. But that isn’t a surprise for most of you. It’s been clear that he would rather fight his own than the enemy. This latest attack on Sarah compared to his refusal to attack the left is all the indication you need to see in order to judge him accurately in that regard.

Count to 10 on November 6, 2008 at 10:45 AM

They need someone to blame for the piss-poor campaign they ran and Sarah seems to be an easy target to them.

Yep, sounds to me like she’s the scapegoat for their loss. If it wasn’t for Sarah Palin, McCain would have lost by an even bigger margin.

If she had the kind of outrageous behavior discussed in the video, I’m sure her staffers in Alaska would have leaked it ASAP. Her approval rating there was 86% and everyone interviewed loves her.

I’m not sure about term limits–however, I would love to see Senators as serve-at-the-pleasure-of-the-state-governor appointees, and maybe a rule preventing incumbents from running for the House (basically, alternating). Loser pays sounds like a good idea, too.

Count to 10 on November 6, 2008 at 10:52 AM

Four years is a long time. If Palin wants the brass ring in 2012, which I don’t think she does, it will take more than this to do keep her from it.

2010, people.

2010.

RDE2010 on November 6, 2008 at 11:20 AM

The conservatives who stayed home should have realized that they will get NOONE more conservative than Sarah Palin within a 5 mile radius of the White House. They blew it by taking it out on McCain, eventhough, yes he did suck.

Lets get Sarah nominated in 2012. As soon as she starts her PAC I will start donating.

Norwegian on November 6, 2008 at 11:47 AM

I wonder if anyone out there has kept track of FoxNews’ ratings over the past few weeks. Specifically, if their ratings have started to fall since they started kissing O-ass.

I, for one, am never watching them again. And I used to be pretty faithful to them.

Hannity/Rush/Levin/Laura/Michelle need to start their own network! NOW!

ErinF on November 6, 2008 at 11:48 AM

The obvious beneficiary of this is not Romney, but Palin herself. This stuff, post-election, looks so ridiculously petty that even liberals will scoff at it. Let Palin go back to Alaska, serve 4 more years as governor, and see what she can do on the national scene. If she decides to run again, this shit will be old news and seen as such. She may be our first woman president yet.

bilups on November 6, 2008 at 11:50 AM

Why is everybody so surprised?

That’s what you get when you suck up to a network and give them more access than anyone else and you confide more to them than anyone else and then you fu*k up and lose the election.

They’re going to turn on you.

Take your lumps.
