Newsweek editor: Obama’s cult of personality is “slightly creepy,” isn’t it?

posted at 2:14 pm on November 6, 2008 by Allahpundit

Creepy in an admirable way, though, as evidence of preternatural self-awareness. All that comes from The One is, and can only be, good.

With this, Evan Thomas proves that he’s good for one killer soundbite every election cycle. Click the image to watch.

Obama and the 48 Laws of Power

econavenger on November 6, 2008 at 3:06 PM

“slightly creepy”, uh, yeah!

d1carter on November 6, 2008 at 3:07 PM

Now it’s slightly creepy? I’ve been freaked for months. Great. We’ve got a lot of work to do in the next two years. Starting today…

BiasedGirl on November 6, 2008 at 3:10 PM

Creepy indeed. The personality worship is bizarre, and a lot of his events are vaguely reminiscent of a Nazi rally, like Nuremberg in Triumph of the Will.

Stefan on November 6, 2008 at 3:10 PM

We’ve gotten Newsweek for years to keep tabs on what the “other side” is up to. We’ve been looking for a good enough reason to cancel our sub, and Evan Thomas’ tardy revelation was as good as any. Done. Looking forward to putting that money towards the good guys. Rush’s 24/7 for instance.

hoosiermama on November 6, 2008 at 3:10 PM

Creepy?! We ain’t seen nuthin’ yet…

Wyznowski on November 6, 2008 at 3:11 PM

Rush has always pointed out that the media builds celebs up, and then tears celebs down. I’d say Obama will have a 50,000 foot freefall during his administration.

Regarding Manly Rash, we’re not lost without him, but we’re better with him. I suspect at some point he’ll come charging back, better than ever.

Regarding you, driver, good and decent people are always welcome here. And I’ll take good and decent over educated people every time.

Think about this….some of the most educated people in the country are responsible for current condition of education in this country. Oy.

Patrick S on November 6, 2008 at 3:13 PM

Thank you driver.

I’m a newbie , too. There are a lot of Great Americans at this site. We Conservatives must hang together or we will hang separately.

I, too, miss Manly. His optimism is contagious.

Have faith. I’m 4 years younger than you. I was out of work for a while but He sustained me and then opened a door of opportunity for me.

This is still the greatest country on earth. Anything is possible.

It is not the Beltway Elite that made it that way. It is the Everyday American. People like you and me with old fashioned work ethics, a sense of humor, and a love of God and our country.

In order to win back the White House, the Republican Party is going to have to realize that.

Our great leaders always did.

I’ll get down off my soapbox now.

Yet another journalist, who couldn’t bring himself to say this before the election, discredits himself, his employer and his profession. Keep talking fool. You are doing a fine job.

Skandia Recluse on November 6, 2008 at 3:18 PM

If you think the Jewsish community will be outraged if this is ever reased, think again. My cousin, (jewish ,too) didn’t beelieve Obama was close to Hagel even after I e-mailed pictures and articles of them together on tour. Can you say DENIAL?

beththebaker on November 6, 2008 at 2:50 PM

Melanie Phillips has written great articles on this subject. Her last line in this article sums up the attitude of most of my Jewish friends:

So the real issue isn’t Israel at all. It’s the self-image of American Jews as social liberals – which means they would vote for Caligula’s horse if it ran on the Democratic ticket.

I’m afraid when he said “oceans” he meant “stock market.”

BitterClinger on November 6, 2008 at 3:24 PM

I think that Evan Thomas is the grandson of Norman Thomas, an avowed socialist who ran for president several times on the Socialist Party of America ticket. If this guy thinks Obama is creepy, I shudder at what we’re in for.

BitterClinger on November 6, 2008 at 3:26 PM

Driver

I am in the same situation as you, I have been looking for employment since July. I will never ask anything on the dole as you won’t. HA and MM have been a sanctuary from the stress, and when libtards and their ilk visit here, it provides me with the ability to decompress so that I can fight on. Never count yourself out. Degrees don’t make the man, his spirit and virtue do… so keep fighting and glad you come here.

MNDavenotPC on November 6, 2008 at 3:26 PM

eh waiting for the honeymoon to be over and maybe something to click in Obama after he gets all of the briefings and learns whats really going on in the world and why we are here or there.

Think about this….some of the most educated people in the country are responsible for current condition of education in this country. Oy.

Patrick S on November 6, 2008 at 3:13 PM

Educated yes, intelligent no.

I’ve always measured the intelligence of others by how they use the intelligence they inherited in their genes. I’ve come across many people of high intelligence who are more interested in manipulating the system than applying their intelligence to get ahead. On the other hand, I admire the little guy/gal who was never blessed with great intelligence, but used every ounce they had to improve themselves and make their mark in the world.

Pure intellgence is highly overrated.

fogw on November 6, 2008 at 3:28 PM

Don’t fret…. 18 months down the line, all will be revealed. Liberal American Jews are demonstrating that their lineage to those non-believers in the Warsaw ghetto is still viable. Creepy is an understatement. We all need to be real Eagle Scouts and “Be Prepared”. Just watch the old Soviet Union and Israel. Those will be the warning bells. Then watch as the rioters (kool-aid drinkers) burn cars in major cities as their hand-outs mysteriously vanish. They don’t realize that there isn’t enough money to address all the bogus “vote-for-me” promises made by President-of-the-World Elect obarfy. I give odds at 70-30 that Israel hammers the Iranian mad mullahs before Inauguration Day.

HomeoftheBrave on November 6, 2008 at 3:32 PM

These media people are behaving exactly like political operators who wait until after the election to express their doubts of the candidate. They are reporters. They should have said this before the election.

RobCon on November 6, 2008 at 3:33 PM

Oprah just happened to go to the same pro-black church (Wright’s) – and wanted Obama to win because of race. She’s an unknowing dupe when it comes to the Alinsky type of conspiracy going on. Unfortunate.

marklmail on November 6, 2008 at 2:45 PM

Oprah spent years in the same church that Obama spent 20 years in. She knows exactly what she was doing, and is in no way a ‘dupe’ in this.

I will say this much – he’s not done yet. I expect something further of him in the future, although exactly what only time will tell. Our highly optimistic, heavily sarcastic, and possibly somewhat medicated but always stalwart companion is far from gone. ;)

I am consoling myself with the thought of how massively disillusioned all the Obama-worshipping idiots are going to be once they realize that their Sugar Daddy can’t actually deliver all the goodies he promised them. It’s small comfort, considering all the damage their idol will likely do to this country during his one-and-only term in office, but right now it’s all I’ve got.

AZCoyote on November 6, 2008 at 3:50 PM

His chief of staff is the most partisan hate-filled man in Washington. Does that tell you something?

He sees himself as the Black Caesar. Manipulating the common folk with his charm and personality. The problem for this Caesar is that he has to deliver the goods. Given the near riot that broke out on Day One when his ‘loyal’ campaign workers in Indy didn’t get paid, I would suggest he doesn’t have a lot of rope to play with before he hangs himself. If loyalists are rioting because they are not getting their $30 Visa gift cards, wait until MoveON doesn’t get what they paid for.

Can’t happen! Lawnmowers won’t need keys, because they won’t have engines. Part of the solution to “glo-bull warming” is the elimination of lawnmowers. Commencing spring, 2009, all power lawnmowers are to be replaced with sheep.

Dear Hot Air friends

I’m a 54 year old truck driver that recently lost my job. I refuse to go on the government dole I voted for McCain / Palen and we lost, I have not lost my spirit and will work hard for helping to find a TRUE Conservative for the 2010 & 2012 elections I must find a new job so I can provide for my family , I depend on Hot Air for inspiration and it saddens me that the person that gos by the screen name ManlyRash has decided to stop posting on HA. He must feel that he has been humiliated for his being so sure of himself and making all that read his postings feel GREAT about the election and the possibility of a strong America
I for one feel that ManlyRash should come back and deliver his uncanny wit and ability to rally the people that are like minded
I have not got the education to match many of you on hot Air, but my heart is in the RIGHT place
May GOD BLESS thus country and all that post on this site. This may be the last place that free Americans can speck there minds and not be dragged of to some Crappy reeducation camp. I know that my cheesy little one liners are a sign of my lack of education but the folks at HA have been very kind not call me on that for I have seen lots of lame comments by others where you blasted them out of water

driver I am a 51 year old new poster and have just been going through the motions at work the last 2 days. Thankful to have had manly inspiring me but each person is dealing with this in their own way. Manly will be back when he is ready. Remember after Clinton controled both houses and the Presidency in the 90’s Republicans reclaimed both houses two years later. Let’s keep the faith and work on following our convictions. Even if no one follows for a while you can hold your head up in your own house and show your kids what a true man is. Enough said!

At the risk of sounding a bit like a moonbat kook, I’m reading The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich and I must say there are some creepy similarities in the robotic-like adoration of Obama by his supporters. When we start worshipping politicians in this country we’re in real trouble and that’s what we’re witnessing- the cult of Obama.

Reading the story just below the one linked in the post in this sentence above:

,
we find Lesley Stahl interviewing the Kerry/Edwards team with a memorable comment:

CBS’s Lesley Stahl seemed as enthusiastic on Sunday’s 60 Minutes for the Kerry/Edwards ticket as were Teresa and John Kerry and Elizabeth and John Edwards as the two couples and Stahl all giggled and laughed about how well everyone was getting along. Stahl prompted them to explain what they were laughing about as they campaigned together and posed such tough questions as: “How, do you think, the honeymoon is going?” Mrs. Edwards snickered: “I think we need to start looking for Silver Anniversary gifts. This is a marriage that’s working.”

fred5678 on November 6, 2008 at 7:11 PM

Driver,

May God bless you brother.

I just got my login at the last open enrollment but have been an avid reader for many months. ManlyRash is great and hopefully he will get back on soon. I loved the way he would tell Drywall where to get off.

I can’t believe how many people drank the koolaid. My brother whom I love dearly fell for the BO hype. I have a friend (hispanic) who voted for BO because democraps are friendlier to illegals. I have friends who just want a change, not realizing that change does not necessarily mean for the better.

But Driver, you are the kind of hard working American this country needs and can be proud of. You are not looking for a handout, and I will bet big money that you are the first one on the scene when someone you know needs help.

We need people like you. Keep the faith. Better times are ahead (unfortunately they may be years away).

As my dad once told me, “Republicans like marriage between a man and a woman. Republicans are against abortion. Democrats think a gay lifestyle is great and support abortion. All we need to do is hang in there. Pretty soon we will out number them”.

DuctTapeMyBrain on November 6, 2008 at 7:30 PM

driver, I am also a newbie here but have been reading this site for about a year. I think your post spoke to more then just a few here, as I know it spoke to me.

I am no longer to going to watch nor read MSM. So many folks out there did not know half of what we all knew here, from coming to this site, to reading other news sites on the web. For how long has this site and others been screaming to the msm about what we all knew was the truth! The sad part no one listen to us. Now we are all going to have to reap, to pay for it. I do not think it is fair at all.

I do not think it is fair for folks like driver, who has lost thier job at no fault of their own. We are the ones that are going to pay for others screw ups! I get so darn mad!

This site, the wonderful folks here have taught me much. We are fighters for this great country. We will fight for our freedom and for this country. I know in my heart my vote was right, and I would have not known that before I found the great folks here.

My sentiments exactly. And to address the topic at hand, I will relish every millisecond of the MSM being made to look like the incompetent biased purveyors of Misinformation that they are. While I`m at it, I`ll also relish the “wonder, outrage and bewilderment” of the 63 million rubes who pulled the lever for this “Corrupter in Chief” Downside, the next 4 years are gonna suck in an EPIC way, but at least I will take solace and personall satisfaction that I did not have a hand in it.

And this guy just found out that Obama is Creepy.
Where has he been these past few months?
One of the worse things, for me, over the next 4 years is trying to avoid looking at his face which he is determined to have plasterd everywhere.
Not only looking at him gives me the creeps but his voice bothers me even more.
I flip channels and use my mute button more than ever.
It’s one thing reading the news about BO but seeing & hearing him is a totally different thing.
After watching FOX’s coverage of Palin these past few days, I now have turned them off as well.
I suppose they have decided to join the MSM.
