Matthews: “I want to do everything I can to make … this new presidency work”

Via the ‘Busters. A noble sentiment and a shining example of a journalist placing the national interest above all; no doubt the same principle would have colored MSNBC’s coverage going forward had McCain won, especially in primetime and especially when it came to not questioning motives. Scarborough observes, acidly, that wanting the president to succeed never seemed like a real high priority for the media vis-a-vis George Bush, but that’s easily explained. If you believe that anything that hurts the GOP’s election chances is ipso facto in the national interest, then it’s practically your patriotic duty to want Bush to fail, whatever the short-term (or long-term) collateral damage to America. Speaking of which, has NBC gotten around yet to formally downgrading Iraq from the “civil war” status they declared two years ago or were they saving that for when the national interest and the president’s interest were once again safely aligned? With the election won for Obama and all of us eager to “experience the power of Change,” I’m anticipating an announcement any day now.

Chris should be worried about his job with those horrible ratings.

Any truth to the rumor that Biden’s son’s middle name is MBNA? I’m still not convinced it’s a Kenyan name either.

Yeah, he’s been consistently calling him Barack for some time now.

Chrissy is still trying to relive the glory days of the Cahtah administration. If you ever want to see him turn purple and become instantaneously speechless for awhile, just tell him Jimmah was the worst President EVAH!

Of course we like Chris Matthews… we’re just trying to toughen him up.

saint kansas on November 6, 2008 at 1:10 PM
First this.
Then, backpeddling.
Hey douche, wanting it to work is a far cry from doing all you can to make it work. You’re not a journalist, you’re a propaganda peddler for the left. I bet you have a blow-up doll of Obama in your nightstand.
Creepy man, very creepy.
fogw on November 6, 2008 at 1:10 PM
In in alternate universe or mid 20th century Europe there was a Chris Matthews saying “I want to help my country (ie Barry), only later to say-
I was just following orders!”

After witnessing “I defend the common-man!” O’Reilly say about common-man Joe the Plumber “Is he really a big deal? Nah.” , I have decided Chris Matthews is not a bigger idiot that Bill O’Reilly and Bill O’Reilly is not a bigger idiot than Chris Matthews. You could have put the same quote in the title of this thread coming from Bill-O, just add something at the end about a “little guy”.

People are still watching this crap. First the media shelters him for serious vetting now they are obviously going to sheild Obama from criticism. How many times will Krugman praise his economic policy. It is going to be surreal, turning on the news and seeing anchors praise Obama’s record setting defecit spending.

Yes, Chrissy wants to keep that thrill going up his leg for at least 8 more years.
At least Joe got one good jab in the end about how no one questioned the motivations of the Bush Admin…Chrissy put his head down and looked as tho he was about to cry, while one of his handiwipes changed the subject.
This ought to be fun watching the media try to spin all the utter confusion and panic of the Obama admin. that has JUST BEGUN. yea Rushbaby, get a load of the “Obamaganda” in it’s infancy. Payback is a beatch ain’t it, MSM?

I think any new President receives a certain amount of goodwill from the country. That is an American tradition. Even Rove said that it is important for this Presidency to be a successful one… because it matters to our country right now. The US is in an epic financial crisis and has troops engaged in two wars. I was watching Hannity last night and even he was saying things close to this.
I felt this way about Bush when he took over after those awful last years of Clinton. It’s a pity that Bush had to start with the Florida mess hanging around. Fortunately we did not have that this time around. It matters to all us that this is a successful Presidency.
lexhamfox on November 6, 2008 at 1:42 PM
It matters to all us that this is a successful Presidency.
I want the country to be successful under this President.

MSNBC and Mr. Matthews are two more reasons NOT to get your information from the Obamamedia.

That’s not a complaint, by the way.
saint kansas on November 6, 2008 at 1:44 PM
NBC/MSNBC already defined itself as an all-pro-O channel for months if not years now. Matthews in so many words says this will continue. This I could have told you before today’s interview.

Chrissy, Keith Overbite and that he/she maddow should make a porn together.
I still haven’t figured out whether the transformer is really a man or woman.
dinkyjackson on November 6, 2008 at 1:46 PM
The clip was stunning. Money part was Scarborough’s dripping with sarcasm portion from 6:07 to the end. Please note Matthew’s abject, face down, almost sheepish expression. Joe really busted his chops. Maybe Matthews, the consummate Obama shill, is at least minimally capable of a modicum of appropriate shame. “Thrills up his leg” Matthews is thorougly dissed in this clip and Chris, miniscule intellect and small man that he is, will undoubtedly seek to punish Joe in the future. Chickennnnnnns coming hooooome to rooooooost!
marybel on November 6, 2008 at 1:46 PM
How pathetic. I agree with all the posters. This guy wanted a job with the new Administration of Indoctrination. He thinks he is so above Keith, and thought the White House was his ticket out of that zoo.
Little by little the media is going to turn on their Annointed.
It’ll happen either when The One makes a huge grave error when it comes to National Security or when The Mrs. goes overseas on one of her first trips and pulls a Dixie Chick. You know she will, she can’t help herself.
sherry on November 6, 2008 at 1:48 PM
In the great American tradition of Trey Parker’s musical ‘Cannibal’:
Hang the bastard, hang him high.
Hoist his body to the sky.
It’s as nice as a day can be.
Won’t you come to the hanging with me?
His face will turn red,
Then purple, then blue.
We’ll watch from up here
To get a good view.
And when his eyes bug out we’ll know,
It’s the end of him
And the end of the show!
(I’ve been humming this tune since late September.)
EZnSF on November 6, 2008 at 1:51 PM
People only watched MSNBC because it bashed Bush.
They will not watch MSNBC if night after night Chris Matthews and the rest gush over Obama’s new puppy or Michelle’s new dress while the economy is tanking, employment is skyrocketing, Russia is knocking on Europe’s back door and Iran is getting ready to launch nukes.
If Bush would have been successful in winning the Iraq war quickly (which he did) and winning the peace even faster (which he didn’t), there would have been very little for MSNBC to whack Bush about.
People watch the news to see negatives, not hear glowing, gushing positives.
albill on November 6, 2008 at 1:51 PM
Joe, why the hell did you wait until within the last minute to get your dig in at Prissy Matthews? You should have jumped on what he said the moment after he said it. Both Joe and Matthews are tools, IMO.

I hope Chrissy Matthews does decide to run for the Senate. He’d be the perfect Senator for the Retard State, i.e. Pennsylvania.

I must bow down to Joe after watching that clip. Especially the last 30 seconds. I’ve never seen anyone discredited so badly as Chris Matthews was by Joe Scarborough. Chris can’t question motives? THAT’S ALL YOU DID FOR EIGHT YEARS YOU GIGANTIC HYPOCRITE!
Dave From Canada on November 6, 2008 at 2:06 PM
Something odd I’ve noticed. In the past month, all of our President-elect’s supporters are referring to him by his first name (Chrissy included). This, of course, is the 180 from the derisive “Bush” the left used to refer to our current President.
Did all these chuckleheads get some underground DNC memo when we weren’t paying attention?

At the risk of incurring Allah’s wrath, that reminds me of a pretty damn funny video from the Onion about the economic collapse of the Bush-bashing industry. (Mild content warning)

Obviously Matthews should be Fired. But why wasn’t he Fired before, because no one at NBC news disagrees with him.
Now, normally I save my rants for my own blog, but reading this just irritates me to No End. Did anyone read the exit polls where only 30% of the people thought the Media was Biased this election? What would the Media have to do in order for these people to understand? The misrepresentation of the Palin interviews were believed to be Fair by 70% of the Population. Is it any wonder Obama won? These people are officially indoctrinated. Apparently it didn’t occur to Any of these 70% that editing can be done to create the story you want out of the interview.
The Indocrination has run so deep, it sickens me. The Press is supposed to report to the Public, be a “Watch Dog” for the citizens. Did they warn us about Fannie and Freddie…No. DId they Vet B.Obama…No. Have they accurately reported our progress in Iraq….No. (oh and I’m betting most of the 70% don’t even know we’re still at war, since Iraq dropped out the headlines, right around the time we started handing over the providences to the Iraqi people)..
I’m beating the dead horse…but Can we file a lawsuit against them? For the FCC license for not reporting information we the public have the right to know?
Needless to say…It is not My job to make this presidency a success. I pray that Obama isn’t what I think he is…but I will on High Alert until further notice.

mr1216 on November 6, 2008 at 3:29 PM
Well people do go into journalism because they want to “change the world” so Matthews is probably just fulfilling a life long dream, and very few people in his field will find anything wrong with his desire to serve the Change Agent in Chief.
Buy Danish on November 6, 2008 at 3:51 PM
WOW!
While he certainly has the right to do as he pleases.
Christopher Mathews you make Dr. Joseph Goebbels proud.
Joseph Goebbels
“The Poison Dwarf”
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
-Joseph Goebbels
We have the right to call MSNBC and the sponsors of the show hard ball, and tell them we will not tolerate a PROPOGANDIST for any administration. We can tell them we will boycott their products.
Sounds extreme? Perhaps, perhaps not
We don’t usually think of history as being shaped by silence, but, as English philosopher Edmund Burke said, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.’
Do nothing and see what happens. As for me, I think I will be a bit MORE proactive and make a list, then some phone calls.
I can cut down on my spending.
I would take the same actions if he (Matthews) had said he would do same for Mccain.

Is Matthews being thrown under the bus?
riverrat10k on November 6, 2008 at 11:56 PM
Matthews need to take a look at his ratings so he clearly understands that very few people really care what he thinks about anything.
He’s living in a fantasy world and it’s only going to get worse for him & the MSM.
Crissy/MSM are going to have to create magic to defend “The One” in the next few months. It’s not going to be as easy as it was before.
Sit back & observe, The Obama Circus, with all it’s many performers, has only just begun.
Keep it up Crissy, there is a good possibility that all of you could end up under the bus along with Obama.

Chris might need to go see his doctor because he’s going to have those “tingling feelings going up and down his leg” for four years now.
He’s a joke! A “journalist” is supposed to question “motive”. He has no problem questioning motive when the guest is conservative/republican.
