Video: The freaky deaky CNN news hologram
posted at 4:25 pm on November 5, 2008 by Allahpundit
Am I missing some obvious utility here or isn’t this a case of CNN reinventing the wheel simply because it has the technology to do so? I can think of only one reason you’d want to switch from a standard talking-head close-up to a full-body shot, and that ain’t a reason CNN will want to acknowledge. So I ask you: Why?
While you ponder that, I’m just going to say it because all of us are thinking it: “Help me, Wolf Blitzer. You’re my only hope.”

Realize that only the camera saw her. Wolf couldn’t see anything.

I, for one, welcome our new holographic overlords

I was gonna post that, but I’m assuming (praying?) that people realize this.

Wha–? Are people really suckered into thinking this is green screen layering trick is a real hologram?
Or are you all hoping that holograms are the change we need?

Candy Crowley? Or is the body shot even worse than the head?

Yep there’s your change right there. That’s how President Present is going to deliver his SOTU addresses.

OT: We aren’t even going to have to wait for Obama to take office before he is tested. Russia has announced they are moving missles to the EU border. Rxit Question: Do you think they would have done that if McCain had been elected?

Eventually, Obama will live in a secure, undisclosed hideout, and appear to us peasants only by hologram. Of course, with his impending 9% approval rating, that won’t be too surprising.

Well, given that she isn’t dressed like your typical Fox News female commentator, I don’t see the value added.
Dee2008 on November 5, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Medvedev didn’t mention Obama once during his state of the union (which ran after obama won). They are starting out on the footing that Obama is a coward.

Oh for the love of God. People we have a massive selloff the day after an election. the Dow lost 5% and no one gives a crap. We can use this and hammer the dems on this. Show how they are bad for people’s 401k’s we could use this. the MSM understands this. They are in full cover your as* mode. And we the party of the big business, the economic smart party can not bring ourselves to care. Are you all just planning on throwing in the towel. Two years of hammering them on DOw falls, home vaules falling, taxes going up, electric prices, food prices, do nothing congress, pork, budget debt etc and the Americian people will once again hunger for change and hope.
We need to use these moments for instruction. DOw falls 5% on Obama win. Get it. Use it. Educcate the idiots that voted for socialism and never understood what soicalism is.

Michelle, how’d Fox do on their ratings last night? Truth be told I found them to be quite dull, but the whole thing is dull when your guy isn’t winning.

There is no greater cause and effect on what the free market thinks of a president then the day after an election
in 2004 up flat: 0%
in 1996 ip 100pts about 2%
in 1992 down 20pts about 1%
in 1988 flat
in 1984 up 14pts or about 1.5%
in 1980 flat.
This is the worse reaction to an election by the markets in the last 30 years. Most days after is like business as usally. No sell offs. Sometimes you get a small rally. Today was an massive in your face NO THANK YOU form the market. HISTORIC reaction. Not seen ever.

Max was much more entertaining.
dinobalz on November 5, 2008 at 5:15 PM
Are we sure? I’m thinking it MUST have been visible to Wolf, otherwise they wouldn’t have done it.
That would be the only reason to get excited about it.
It just means that the CNN folks forgot that we DO see this all the time, we just normally don’t care that people in the room can’t see the subject … so when they finally CAN see the person, we just don’t care…

It’s not even close to a real hologram. It’s basically a step up from the line on the football field. There are actual holographic technologies CNN could use, but they cost about 10 Magic Walls.

I could have sworn I felt a trembling in the Force last night. I just assumed it was Pennsylvania going for Obama, the sound of millions of insulted coal mine workers falling for the line about “spreading the wealth,” that suddenly became silent.
manwithblackhat on November 5, 2008 at 7:22 PM
Two words.
Quark’s Holosuites.
You gotta start somewhere before you can hope for that dream vacation with a tangible holographic Megyn Kelley.

That’s “Kelly.” And I’ve got dibs on her.
manwithblackhat on November 5, 2008 at 7:33 PM
When I saw the hologram I thought that a good metaphor for the whole campaign would have been for them to hologram Obama onto the set and have Anderson Cooper & Wolf Blitzer start making love to it.
ebrawer on November 5, 2008 at 7:56 PM
Well it looks ok as long as the camera stays absolutely still.
Otherwise it stumbles drunkenly into uncanny valley territory.

These holographic addresses from BHO will sent to all living rooms, offices, malls, car navagtion systems, sidewalk/bus stops and of course all college dorms/government schools. Each of his

I predicted this morning it would tank today; I don’t expect it to get any better with The One in office for four years.
The trouble with educating idiots is, well, they’re idiots. People like the moronic Obamabot I had to listen to in the coffee shop today lecturing his friend/regurgitating the latest transcript from “Hardball” about how wonderful it’s going to be when all those evil rich people earning $250K+ see their taxes go up and how poor hourly wage saps like he will benefit (I resisted the urge to point out to him that The One and his jester of a sidekick have already lowered that income ceiling twice, that it now stands at $150K, and will likely come down much further after these brilliant minds do the math and figure out how much it’s really going to cost to operate their welfare state). What people like he don’t understand is that the people who own his little coffee shop (which is a mini-chain of about 4 stores in the area) are probably among those evil people earning more than $150K and when they get bit hard by Obama and the tax man, they’re going to pass that right on down to him — either in the form of stagnant wages, or fewer hours, or worst case scenario, closing one or more stores.
So that said, I think it may be pointless to try to explain to any of these idiots what the effect of the O’s presidency on the stock market will be and why it should matter to them. They can’t see past their own immediate self interests. The response would be, “Well, I don’t have any money in the stock market; why should it matter to me?” They have no capacity to understand the principle of cause and effect, of trickle down economics. These are people who think anyone who invests their money is necessarily one of the evil rich. Last I checked I wasn’t rich, but I am sure the O will make it down to my income level eventually.
