It begins: Palin didn’t know Africa was a continent, claims Fox News

Via Ace, a tasty pile of shinola straight from the stovetop of disgruntled McCain staffers. It’s too cute by half, as is the detail about NAFTA; they might as well have tossed in a story about her having to guess who’s buried in Grant’s tomb. To believe it, you have to believe she figured out a way to become governor of Alaska while somehow lacking the mental power to piece together which three nations might be involved in the North American Free Trade Agreement. Diehard ‘Cuda-haters like Sullivan will, of course, be more than happy to oblige.
You’ll find another clip from Fox that aired earlier today below the Carl Cameron video. See if you can figure out the thematic link. Exit question: If she’s really this much of an abject imbecile, how did that detail manage to escape the attention of Newsweek? There’s no sign of it in their highlight reel of the dishiest dirt they learned about the campaign, a piece which actually includes a quote from another aide about “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast” as if to prove that they’re not holding back on the ‘Cuda.
Update: The plot thickens.

Tell you what. Why don’t you give us a list of words that are no longer acceptable, so there’s no guess-work involved.
I’ll start you out with the first two:

After the b.s. came out about her clothes being bought by the RNC, you noticed that she went to wearing jeans. I thought you weren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover. Wether she was dressed to the 9’s or wearing jeans, she excited the people. I’m still excited about her and want her to stay engaged in the political process.

How does a liberal fight evil? I’ll tell ya how.
The way a lib fights evil is:
1) See evil…
2) Bend over
3) Stick your head in the sand.
4) Make sure Tuckus is properly raised up.
5) Murmer faintly in a quivery voice to: “Be gentle”.
No one has mastered this age old technique better than liberals. History doesn’t lie.

Someone mentioned upthread that they’ll be interested to see the final audits of the two campaigns, the RNC, and the DNC. I’m interested to see those audits as well. I’m not sure, though, whether or not the audits will really tell us who was/is responsible for the whole Palin wardrobe thing.
If it was Palin who somehow slipped away from all the reporters following her and ran over to Saks or sent a low-level staffer and they used the RNC donor’s credit card or the staffers personal credit card, I’m not sure how that shows up in the audit as being all down to Palin. It’s kind of a he said, she said kind of thing isn’t it? Palin can and does say that she had no idea how much was spent, how much was bought, etc. Yet it’s very easy for them to pin this on her.
I think the only way that it could be proven that Palin actually went on some kind of crazy shopping spree with RNC money is if she gets caught wearing clothes that were supposed to be returned or something. Otherwise it’s all just innuendo, which is a really fun and easy way to smear someone. Really, even if a low-level staffer who went out shopping for her says that Palin ordered her to buy her $10,000 worth of clothes and put it on the staffer’s personal credit card there’s no way to actually prove that is there? Maybe I’m missing how that’s going to be proven. Maybe it will be, and it’ll show that my girl Sarah is really just like Ted Stevens.
Some McCain staffers have been building this story for a while, ready to hang it all around Palin’s neck. Jake Tapper wrote a blog entry a few days ago that said Palin was a crazy shopper, and that McCain’s aides were fearful that she was going to step on McCain after the race was over like she had done to people who had helped her in Alaska. I suppose that she still might do that somewhere down the road, but for now at least, it looks to me like it has been the other way around.

First, calling your opponents stupid is not a good way to win friends and influence people. Secondly, if you want to get into a credentials pissing match, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign with a BA in accounting. I also have twelve years of Catholic school under my belt which included Jesuit religious catechism.. But yet I’m stupid like all Christians who vote Republican.
You basically insinuated the reason why Palin wasn’t qualified was because she was an Evangelical and that all Evangelicals are somehow stupid. And yes you are right… This includes many Black and Hispanic churches. You basically dissed people who were going to vote for your precious Messiah as well as evil Republicans.

Sarah is the first Republican since Reagan who is really able to connect and communicate with the American public. She appeals to us because she is one of us just like Reagan. She scares the crap out of the Republican elite because they see her as a threat to their retention of power in the party. Reagan was attacked the same way by the party too. She is going to be attacked by both the Republican establishment and the Democrats. The McCain\Romney fraction of the party would rather lose in 012 then win if the only way to winning was with Palin.

Where do you live? Under a rock? Bush got plenty of blame for 9/11, far more than he should have under the circumstances, and certainly more than should have been laid at the feet of Do Nothing Willie.
As for McCain doing better in the South with someone other than Palin . . . how could he have done any better than he did? With the exception of Florida which has always been a toss up state due to its large population of transplanted Northeast liberals, and assuming North Carolina ends up in the red column, he’s done exactly as well as Bush did in the last two elections in the South — which is significantly better than his father or Bob Dole did here in the previous two elections. McCain would have won the South regardless, but he never could have won in Western states and the Midwest without a solid conservative like her on the ticket with him. Romney might have had the same net effect, but we’ll never really know. I do not think Sarah Palin hurt McCain; if anything, her presence on the ticket helped because it energized people. But ultimately most people do not cast their vote based on who the VP candidate is anyway.
As to the rumors of her not knowing Africa was a continent . . . I really don’t believe that. Sounds like someone with an axe to grind for whatever reason and I agree with whomever upthread said so long as the cowards refuse to admit to leaking this stuff to Fox, then it is completely without credibility IMO. I mean, really, with all the relentless digging into Sarah Palin’s life and past, are we to believe that the Obama shills in the MSM didn’t unearth this tasty tidbit? Shame on Fox for even airing this stuff. Is the Fairness Doctrine already in place and we just didn’t hear about it? Cuz this seems a lot more like the kind of agenda-driven, hate-filled conjecture we’d see on MSNBC or CNN or one of the networks.
Sarah may not be some overeducated elitist egghead like those that populate the leadership in the Democratic Party, but I consider that actually to be an asset, not a liability. I think her real appeal comes from her Reagan-esque style of populism. She’s governor of Alaska; I don’t expect her to recite by rote the outcome of every Supreme Court decision since Marbury v. Madison, or to rival Condi Rice in her knowledge of foreign affairs. A person can learn stuff like that. And the credibility and intelligence with which she speaks on subjects she is knowledgeable about — like energy policy — is all I really need to be comfortable enough to know that she DOES have the smarts to be able to understand and digest complex issues. She just needs to study up between now and 2012.

Then they have the nerve to trash her. She wasn’t the one that blew this. McCain was a wuss. I love him, but he was a wuss. Didn’t fight. Because he knew that it was rigged. To bad he didn’t let Palin in on it. I feel he used her. That was dirty poo.

I disagree. I think it is the turncoat campaign aides who should have their reputations ruined and be run out of the party…unless of course they are telling the truth, and if they are, they should make their accusations on the records. If they won’t state their issues on the record, they should not be quoted. Palin is being attacked, yet due to the anonymity of it, she has no ability to confront her accusers.
JustTruth101 on November 6, 2008 at 12:10 AM

Palin is/was inexperienced, not a dummy. Her problem with Couric was that she didn’t know how to pivot off a ridiculous question to one that played to her strengths. The proof of this was in the debate when she told everyone she wasn’t going to answer questions they way they wanted her to. That is when she showed she had learned how to pivot.

People who think Romney is behind this, I’d like to point out its in Romney’s best interest to keep Palin in the race, cause she will split the anti-Romney vote with Huck, leaving clear sailing for Mitt the way the anti-McCain vote split and let McCain slip through.

Quit whining will ya? You want, no you crave, this type of dialog. If you can’t keep up, then I suggest you refrain from playing the game.
csdeven on November 6, 2008 at 12:49 AM
Who’s whining? I’m just making a point.

Awww lets let ‘greggish’ speak. Its kinda fun. A little like watching a toddler with a bag on his head, continually bumping into walls.
(Sorry ‘greggish’..am I bringing up some bad family memories for you?)

I hate the media! I hate the backstabbers! Sarah is a fine, decent, intelligent, strong, courageous, wonderful woman. What has been done to her is nothing short of criminal, or should be, in a civilized world. God bless her for putting herself through all this for a bunch of vicious ingrates!
Oh, oh, I know. MONUMENTALLY dumb!
pannw on November 6, 2008 at 12:56 AM
She helped him across the board. Both donations and volunteer hours when up by huge amounts after she was selected. You don’t think that translated into votes? She energized the base. Look at the amazing rallies she led. You don’t think that energy translated into an improved GOTV drive?
The drag on the ticket was at the top, not the bottom. McCain was a national defense candidate trying to win in a campaign on the economy. He knew the notes, but couldn’t play the melody. Every time he tried to talk about the economy he stepped on his own lines. Half the people on this board could defend the free market principles of conservatism better than McCain could and did. Palin sure could and owned Biden in the VP debate when the discussion went to the economy and taxes.
What we’re seeing now is disgruntled staffers looking at a way of deflecting blame from themselves onto someone else. Who’s a better target than Palin? She’s a million miles away in Alaska. She’s not part of the beltway establishment. It’s easy to trash her because, really, what beltware patron is going to rise to her defense?
They see her as some outsider rube and are glad to be rid of her. How dare some yokel from the klondike presume to be part of OUR national campaign?
So I call bullshit on all of these stories. If those assholes at Fox want to run rumours, then get those bastards on the record. Make them take the heat. Have them prove that it’s just not some self-serving bull they’re pushing to protect their own asses. Ask them some tough questions and let us judge who’s telling the truth and who’s lying. Until they do that, it’s all bullshit.

I am in too good a mood to be bothered by any insults aimed at me. I’d like to invite everybody here to come over to the light. Leave your dark cold Rovian world, and join with the forces of light in Obama land. There’s room for all. All are welcome.

Romney has way too much class to stoop to lib-style levels. Now Graham is a different story.
Wonder if Palin regrets agreeing to sidle with McCain. She must. Look at how she and her family have been run through the ringer. I guess that’s what you get for teaming with a RINO/media-suck-up.
McCain will go back to DC and become “best buds” with the most leftist libs, just to save face, and will henceforth make his first priority ramming amnesty down our throats. Totally suckish!

Will everyone who is calling Palin a dummy shut up for minute and read this article?
I’ll just give you the first two paragraphs right here.
smellthecoffee on November 6, 2008 at 1:01 AM
No thanks. You people are weird. Keep practicing those “heil” signs, though. You must have that down pretty good.
ErinF on November 6, 2008 at 1:02 AM
When you ask a dumb person (read: liberal) “how dumb are you?” …
What they usually do, is run to the bathroom and stand on a scale.
(the really sad thing is while looking down at it..with mouth agape, they ask: “how do you turn this dumb tink on?”)

You, sheebe, and all your ilk, are the only true RRINO’s in the place – Reagan Republican in Name Only. You are so full of anger and hatred and self-righteous indignation, and intolerance for anyone that doesn’t think exactly like you, that you and yours are proving to be the death of the Republican Party. Reagan understood that to win, you must include a lot of people with a lot of different points of view, while holding ideals that may be close but not identical. This ideological purity and PalinWorship bullshit is continuing to drag down conservatism. YOU are the problem, and YOU will either be left behind by the New Right as the millstone you are, or you will have to learn to understand that the world does not revolve around you. Enought of your shit!

I don’t associate with the devils. You will one day, pay for what you did. When it comes down you will go down. Make no mistake.

If they had thoughts that were intelligent. Then I wouldn’t attack. I won’t spit on Palin. I am not like that. I don’t like gossip when it comes to anyone that has not done harm. Especially someone that is ignorant and vicious. (not you).
