I’m oddly impressed that she was willing to go on camera and cop to this jackassery. What she lacks in simple decency she more than makes up for in courage! Or maybe she’s trying to prove a point about taxes. The case for redistribution made simple: When stingy homeowners won’t part willingly with their candy, the candy must be seized for the common good.
T-minus one hour and counting until the exit polls drop. Can you feel it?

I was worried I was going to be stampeded by kids actually dressed up as Obama. I decided that there would be no point in proselytizing to them, as they could only be wearing such costumes due to parental influence, but I gave myself the out that after I saw two I was going to shut off the porch lights and just go read a book.
Surprisingly, despite my Austin neighborhood being absolutely filthy with Obama and “Vote Straight Democrat” yard signs, I didn’t see a single political costume of any kind all evening. Maybe I was just lucky. I don’t question that this lady was within her rights, but I can’t see wisdom in politicizing what’s essentially just an annual kids’ event one way or the other.

Name call if it makes you feel like you have a stiffer spine. I’m a grandparent with 4 little trick-or-treat age kids. It gives one a different perspective. I don’t want Halloween spoiled for all time by partisan political stunts and reprisals.

The way these people treated us, with Obama’s encouragement, is a large part of the reason so many of us voted Republican for the first time in our lives. The reason Obama will lose tonight is because of his followers, and the way they behaved.
These people are going to realize this — it will dawn on them that they are largely responsible for Obama’s loss.
So, we want to ask all of you out there to please refrain from rubbing any of this in these people’s faces. Many of them never even bothered to learn much about Obama intellectually — they just supported him from a place of raw emotion. And so we think they will be even more depressed and hurt tonight than we were in the primaries.
As much as we don’t like these people because of the way they treated all of us — Obama’s candidacy has produced enough division, bitterness, and aggression.
Starting tomorrow, a new page turns, where we all have a change to come together under President McCain and work on the problems facing America. We don’t have any time to get into grade school fights with Obama followers, and we should not treat them with anything less than the respect we’d want if the shoe was on the other foot.
Perhaps, if we win this with grace and treat Obama’s supporters with understanding and kindness, they will see how foolishly and maliciously they behave the last two years. Maybe they will learn from all of this and become better people.

This story shouldn’t ever made it to the news. In my day this would have been handled with an abundant amount of toliet paper and the parents wouldn’t have whined about it.
I no way condone this woman’s actions, why mess with kids on Halloween? But, I work in her city and was kind of surprised to see so many Obama 08 signs in this affluent Detroit suburb.

Not that I agree with her for asking who they would vote for, but did you see the rage on the people’s faces being interviewed? It’s like they were saying “how dare this woman have candy and not give it to our children!”

I wish I lived in the same thinly divided country that you live in. However, there are elements that must be destroyed. I happen to be very good at bridging the intellectual gap with libs.
My greater problem is with people of my “persuasion” that are a little too vanilla (pale pastel). If I am going to convert someone to the faith, I’m converting all the way not to faithless lite. People that dump on anyone that wanders beyond a standard deviation, are as disgusting as the most bloodthirsty communist.
My intent here is less to dump on you than to call for less philistine activity in our ranks.
Take any Republican scapegoat, including the alaskan senator, as exemplary of this problem.
