Video: Joe the Plumber, Rick Sanchez get nasty

posted at 5:15 pm on November 4, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Ben Smith, an exercise in futility as Sanchez grapples with the riddle of why a blue-collar Joe like Wurzelbacher wouldn’t want to stick his hand in the pocket of the rich and extract cash like it’s an ATM. Answer: “It’s called principles.”

But that’s not the best part. Wait until Sanchez starts airing his dirty laundry. About halfway through, if you’re pressed for time and want to skip ahead.

Is Sanchez really that big of an idiot? I don’t watch CNN so I can’t tell for sure. Maybe he just thinks he is playing devil’s assha… I mean, advocate.

By his own definition, though, Sanchez is himself a public figure. I wonder what dirty laundry we might have if we went poking around in his closet. Does he owe back taxes? Child support? Does he even have a journalism degree?

Joe ought to run for the state Senate, but I imagine he’s just about all this BS he wants.

Frackin demoncRats.

NTXLass on November 4, 2008 at 5:57 PM

My friend in college was a plumber’s assistant. Tenants in a home had a backed up drain, so they cut the pipes and let everything (yes, that!) fall into the crawl space. My friend had to go down there are reconnect the pipes. OMG!
This interview is just like that–liberal cr*p all over the place. BTW, I’ll donate to JtP congress run, too.

TimothyJ on November 4, 2008 at 5:57 PM

I was in a meeting today where everyone in the room ridiculed Joe the Plumber. It isn’t just the media… the media is training the idiots who watch the media.

We have to do a better job of educating people.

beatcanvas on November 4, 2008 at 5:58 PM

It’s too bad Joe didn’t go into how redistribution of wealth creates a very apathetic, unproductive, and depressed workforce and economy.

Look at Russia in their hayday, of the minimal products they tried to produce, standards and quality were abhorrent because most the workforce were/is alcoholics. When you take away incentive, you take away any modicum of pride.

Of course, he was too busy trying to protect his identity and integrity and stave off the personal attacks, he didn’t even get an opportunity to get into that.

Republigal on November 4, 2008 at 5:58 PM

We seem to have consensus here – Rick Sanchez is indeed an asshole. He also appears to be thick as two short planks and totally incompetent at mathematics. Right now those “rich” folk pay a huge amount of tax. And Obama wants them to pay more. That will result in a huge disincentive for them to work more, and they are the successful folk whose work makes this country work. Wow, what a totally stupid idea to tax success!

wilf on November 4, 2008 at 5:58 PM

Sanchez has no vision on what people can do in life when they are not impeaded by Big Government because he has probably never owned his own business. Joe the Plumber has the vision. When he grows his business and starts making more than $250K per year he will be happier with McCain’s tax plan than Obama’s. It is known as the American Dream, what I would want my children to grow up in as opposed to money distribution. My concern with Obama’s plan is that there will be those that don’t want to deal with socialistic practices and downsize or get out of owning a business altogether, or worse yet, moving a manufacturing business to China. If you think there are problems now, wait until then…

DL13 on November 4, 2008 at 5:59 PM

Look, I don’t mind reporters challenging or questioning the public policy views of Joe. That’s not only okay, it’s what they should do.

But ask it in a less tendentious manner than this and for crying out loud leave the “You don’t have a plumber’s license” nonsense out of the story.

Who cares?

Let’s look at the policy views of Joe and, if it’s related to the issue, how Obama’s policies would and would not affect Joe personally.

Yeah, I know. Asking reporters to be professional and fair-minded. What am I thinking?

SteveMG on November 4, 2008 at 5:59 PM

These interviews all purposefully miss the point. It’s irrelevant what the question was or who was asking it. The issue was the answer given. Whether or not this guy has his own business, can afford to buy one or is just indulging in a pipe dream (no pun intended) the problem was Obama wants to “spread the wealth around.” The status of the individual asking the question has no bearing on what the answer was.

AmericanUnderground on November 4, 2008 at 6:01 PM

That is the problem. The education system has been taken over by the liberal socialist Marxist communists.

Every time I see Joe I am amazed at the calmness and intelligence he displays. He often makes reporters (like Sanchez) look like fools. Go Joe!

huckleberryfriend on November 4, 2008 at 6:02 PM

I guess the reporter (cough* propaganda pusher) has never heard of the American Dream. I wonder how much HE makes a year selling out every principal…. oh he has no idea what that means.

lexa on November 4, 2008 at 6:03 PM

What a moron and he didn’t answer the most important question. Why haven’t you vetted Obama? I’d vote for Joe for president before I’d vote for Obama.

Connie on November 4, 2008 at 6:03 PM

Here is a letter I just emailed to Rick Sancnez:

Mr Sanchez,
By your reasoning, vis-a-vis your recent interview with Joe the plumber, anyone who tells someone else that they’re going to vote for someone should expect to be scrutinized by you. Don’t you find such thinking to be a little alarming? Aren’t you being just a tad tyrannical by focusing on some dude who isn’t a power broker and not on the people who are actually going to be setting policy? You’ve pretty much overlooked every negative aspect of Obama while at the same time condemning an unlicensed plumber. This would seem hypocritical to me if it weren’t so troubling.

wow. rick sanchez is terrible.

You would have a point if it weren’t for the fact that he has campaigned with McCain given press conferences and flirted with a country music career. The guy chose to become a public figure. He can deal with the consequences.

crr6 on November 4, 2008 at 6:06 PM

Watching Joe the Plumber make a complete fool of himself over and over again has been one of the joys of this election.

Let me guess: you’re so concerned about the average working guy and gal in America?

Right, as long as they vote liberal. Otherwise, they’re white trash.

We know the routine.

SteveMG on November 4, 2008 at 6:06 PM

This is hardly believable… can that CCN anchor truly be that dense? I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I’d think it was an internet hoax.

mankai on November 4, 2008 at 6:06 PM

That Sanchez believes “Joe” is fair game to be vetted and grilled by the media because he came out in favor of McCain is the true and absolute scandal of this hit-interview. Rick is performing, right on cue, thuggish, goon-like Obamabot tactics. Is this what will happen, with official sanction, to those who dare to question the Messiah should he prevail as president? Obama is a charismatic, power hungry Saul Alinsky socialist…yes, this is the preview. We will all be Joe the Plumber.

marybel on November 4, 2008 at 6:07 PM

Dear Anchor: Why are you talking at all? Good lord.

SouthernGent on November 4, 2008 at 6:07 PM

I think it’s past time to start taking the fight to the media. These people need to be held accountable for their lack of ethics. They’re targeting people who shouldn’t be targeted. They are ignoring people who shouldn’t be ignored.

jakabok_botch on November 4, 2008 at 6:07 PM

I was thinking of Sanchez doing something with balls and bustin’ em wasn’t it.

thomasaur on November 4, 2008 at 6:07 PM

So what Sanchez is saying is anyone making less than $250k – which he personally reinstates btw, after Bozo and his posse have it ratcheted down to $120k, but never mind – anyone making less that $250k shouldn’t have to pay taxes, shouldn’t have to pay for roads, schools, health care, or anything. They’re OWED!

Is that what Goose Breath is saying? And he thinks not only is that right, it’s a right?

Is it any wonder the GimmeGimmeGots think:

Obama Is Going To Pay For My Gas And Mortgage!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36×8rTb3jI

This honey soooooo deserves to be America’s new RickRoll.

Yeah baby, you hear that America! Sanchez says, you make less than $250k, you take it all, gratis. Banks? Just walk in, and walk out RICH!

‘Cause baby, you’re OWED!

Just don’t take more than $249,999.99 if you know what’s good for ya.

And all you business owners making more than $250k, start ditching employees to drop your productivity below $250k. Tell them in Obama’s America, the less they make, the more they’re OWED … especially free gas and a house.

spaceman spiff on November 4, 2008 at 6:08 PM

Sanchez is such an arrogant know it all. And this interview isn’t any different than any other he does. It’s all about ‘lookit me the TV News star’… What a tool. CNN, if it had any ethics or actual journalistic integrity left, would remove lightweight tools such as Rick from their time slots.

notta_dhimmi on November 4, 2008 at 6:08 PM

Joe did not get nasty. Sanchez did.

Christien on November 4, 2008 at 6:09 PM

The guy chose to become a public figure. He can deal with the consequences.

And what does that have to do with this election and the public policy views of the two candidates?

I find it interesting that you Obama supporters complain about us getting diverted away from the issues by the Ayers and Wright matters.

But with Joe, we need to know all about him. Not just his policy views.

Why is it okay to go into Joe’s private life but we can’t look into the matters of Obama’s past associations?

Hmm, I know the answer.

SteveMG on November 4, 2008 at 6:09 PM

Sanchez is always a douchebag. No shocker here.

SouthernDem on November 4, 2008 at 6:10 PM

You would have a point if it weren’t for the fact that he has campaigned with McCain given press conferences and flirted with a country music career. The guy chose to become a public figure. He can deal with the consequences.

crr6 on November 4, 2008 at 6:06 PM

And you would have a point if it weren’t for that fact that the anal probbing Joe received by your ideological brethren was what caused him to consent to actively campaigning for McCain in the first place. IOW, no prying into the business of a private citizen (Joe)=no public campaigning.

baldilocks on November 4, 2008 at 6:10 PM

You would have a point if it weren’t for the fact that he has campaigned with McCain given press conferences and flirted with a country music career. The guy chose to become a public figure. He can deal with the consequences.

crr6 on November 4, 2008 at 6:06 PM

Lame. The guy’s private life was aired publicly before his first appearance. His appearances were subsequent to that, and I’m glad he did them – allow him to show who he really was, instead of the wife-beating, blood-drinking, unlicensed plumber the press made him out to be (all for the sin of asking a good question). Protect Barry at all costs!

Now he is turning some of that publicity to his good – more power to him. He deserves it, along with a payday for the illegal use of government information to pry into his life.

Spirit of 1776 on November 4, 2008 at 6:10 PM

Sanchez talks as if people who make $250,000 aren’t paying any taxes.

Dave From Canada on November 4, 2008 at 6:11 PM

I hate hate hate hate hate the fact that whenever someone is trying to justify taxes/increases, they go to the “Who’s gonna pay for the roads, firefighters, police” well. Those are always the first frakking things that get cut or shortchanged whenever there’s a budget problem.

h0mi on November 4, 2008 at 6:11 PM

“Joe chose to become a public figure”
LMAO!!!!

JOE GOT SCREWED by the Obama freaks in the Ohio state government – I hope to God he sues the state for loads of cash!!

He can’t even work as a plumber now – so I’d be milking the publicity too!

GOD I HATE THE MEDIA. OBAMA IS GOING DOWN IN FLAMES.

CambellBrown on November 4, 2008 at 6:12 PM

How disgusting. The media started digging through JTP’s trash way before he started touring with McCain. If I remember right this crap came out within a couple of days after the original question!

I am truly beginning to believe that our “Ministry of Truth” media has in its power the ability to form opinions around the world … Why in the hell else would people willingly vote their own freedom away!

How exactly did Joe make a full out of himself?

Daemonocracy on November 4, 2008 at 6:12 PM

This country is doomed. When some idiot on CNN can be so dense, or so totally an asshole that he doesn’t even care that he’s lying through his teeth for what he considers great TV, we are all doomed.

The Joe’s of this world don’t stand a chance because we’re all so naive to think other people are capable of a simple thought when they are not. We will always be blindsided by such tactics and those tactics will work with the masses because the masses are just plain stupid.

Jaynie59 on November 4, 2008 at 6:13 PM

That’s irrelevant. When a news organization is more concerned with Joe the plumber than it is with Barack Obama, then something is seriously wrong. Think about it. Nobody would’ve paid any attention to Joe if he hadn’t asked a question of a presidential candidate. Sanchez doesn’t like him because of Obama’s Marxist answer, not because he doesn’t have a license or because he wants to succeed.

jakabok_botch on November 4, 2008 at 6:17 PM

Socialism doesn’t fail, it just runs out of other people’s money to give away. Even Joe the plumber gets it.

It’s ok to grill an everyday person about tangential questions and to pry into his private life. Sanchez is PROUD of himself.

Has the fool EVER asked Obama a question that wan’t ripped from the talking points.

This whole interview is the poster child for media bias.

I have the clicker set to skip CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS. Don’t even watch the entertainment shows. If I see a newspaper article is from NYT or AP, I don’t read it. Don’t need the grief.

Plumber’s license? What does that have to do with the “Spread the wealth” issue?
It doesn’t, but because Obama inadvertently revealed his socialistic view, Joe’s being punished. News flash: Joe, and a lot of other Americans, are tough enough to take it; so bring it on you pansy butts!

Also, didn’t that Ohio gov’t b-o also thrust herself onto the public stage? And having done so and thereby making herself a “famous person”, shouldn’t she have vetted and outed herself and all her dirty little secrets herself, not to mention submitted to character assassination grilling by Sanchez?

spaceman spiff on November 4, 2008 at 6:23 PM

Thanks, Aquaviva. I hadn’t read all the comments. I watched the vid and did a slow burn.

What Sanchez and others like him fail to realize is that HIS SALARY is paid by some dude making more the $250k a year. If you start taxing Rich Dude at 70%, take a guess at how long Sanchez and others like him will keep their jobs. More $$ to 0bama’s tax coffers means less to be reinvested in the business. Corners will be cut, make no mistake. C-o-r-n-e-r-s spells jobs.

This is completely unbelievable! Sanchez is making a complete idiotic fool of himself! This is absolutely insane! I don’t know what is happening to this great country! This issue has nothing to do with who asked the question or his beliefs or thought-process. It also has nothing to do with paying taxes for the country’s infrastructure! At that point I wish Joe would’ve said I don’t have a problem paying taxes for infrastructure; but I DO have a problem paying “taxes” to put in someone else’s pocket! That’s called “redistribution of wealth”!! Geez, my head is going to explode!

Sanchez is a perfect fit for CNN and the other “journalists” at ABC CBS NBS MCNBC. After this election is decided, I hope to find an efficient way to determine which companies advertise on these channels, so that, on a grass roots level, we can communicate our displeasure with their many biases by not supporting those companies that support them through advertising.

So, according to Rick Sanchez, if you’re not making over $250,000 a year you have no right to say it’s wrong to tax someone at a higher rate? But you do have the right to delve into their dirty laundry?

Gosh, I wonder what Ricky is making. I just betcha it’s not $250,000 a year, so using his logic he has no right to conduct this interview. I wonder where he keeps his laundry bag.

I think Rick should interview Tito the Builder, next.

But let me get the popcorn, first. :)

Sometimes violence is the answer and if anyone sees that nasty little butt pirate sanchez in an airport knock him into tomorrow.

No, no no.

Any person who does this should be locked up immediately.

SteveMG on November 4, 2008 at 6:41 PM

Sanchez is f*cking retard. He just doesn’t get it and Joe broke it down to him so a five-year-old could understand and he was still stuck on retard.

Claypigeon on November 4, 2008 at 6:43 PM

I think Wolf Blitzer should interview Sanchez about the guy he hit (who eventualy died) and frank Luntz could hook up 24 “undecided voters” with those little boxes to see how they “felt” about the interview. After all, Sanchez is a public figure, isn’t he?

Red State State of Mind on November 4, 2008 at 6:44 PM

While watching that clip I’m reminded why I refuse to watch CNN. Completely disgusting.

When Rick Sanchez said “So Joe, you’re saying that people who make over $250,000 shouldn’t have to pay taxes? That’s what you’re saying, right Joe?” when JTP said nothing even remotely close to that.

Sanchez might as well of responded to a statement about what Joe had for breakfast with “So Joe, you’re saying that pedophiles have every right to be paid employees of childcare centers and public schools across America? That’s what you’re saying, right Joe?”

These kind of twisted interviews just boil my blood.

Just watching that video makes me glad I don’t watch CNN anymore… ugh!

“danm. he could have crucified Sanchez. Sanchez got drunk at the Orange Bowl in miami and ran over and killed a guy. Then fled the scene. He’s asking about a license?” marklmail

Hell yeah! Good one!

The Forgotten Man
Eight months after he got hit by Channel 7 anchorman Rick Sanchez’s Volvo, Jeffrey Smuzinick is doing poorly. His family is just plain doing poor. August 07, 1991
http://www.miaminewtimes.com/1991-08-07/news/the-forgotten-man/

“…Minutes after midnight on the morning of December 10, 1990, an intoxicated Smuzinick darted out in front of a Volvo on a residential street near Joe Robbie Stadium. The driver of the car, WSVN-TV Channel 7 anchorman Rick Sanchez, became the subject of a subsequent January 16 New Times story that described the odd circumstances of the accident. Sanchez, whom a Metro-Dade police officer said “smelled strongly of alcohol,” first stopped his car but then later left the scene. A blood test to determine Sanchez’s sobriety was not administered until an hour and fifteen minutes after the collision. Though Sanchez says he tried to aid Smuzinick at the scene of the accident and flag down motorists, eyewitnesses claim the anchorman ignored the injured man and loudly told police and bystanders that blood tests were pointless, and would hurt his public image

…One friend of the family, Kelli Crist, has distributed flyers describing the accident involving Smuzinick and Sanchez. The flyers list Crist’s phone number (680-2741) and request donations to help pay for treatment and therapy. So far the fund-raising effort has not gone well.

…Smuzinick’s fiancee, Jackie Stringhill, says it’s just as well that Sanchez hasn’t paid a visit to Smuzinick since the accident. “I guess his attitude bothers a lot of people. But we have enough to think about. We have our hands full. We don’t really talk about the accident much any more. Anyway,” she adds resignedly, “as far as Sanchez goes, what goes around comes around.”

Clearly, Dirty Sanchez isn’t keen on redistributing his wealth, not even after putting a guy in a coma for two months from massive brain damage, leaving the guy paralyzed on the right side.

There’s this juicy bit too.

“…Also on a down note, Sanchez said during the speech that his first-grade teacher labeled him mentally retarded. “I swear to God, it’s right there in my transcript,” he told the depleted crowd.”

CNN should be ashamed of themselves…hiring an ass clown like this.

d1carter on November 4, 2008 at 6:54 PM

Watching Joe the Plumber make a complete fool of himself over and over again has been one of the joys of this election.

crr6 on November 4, 2008 at 6:02 PM

I was hoping you were simply a troll and not that big of an idiot, but my better judgment indicates you’re both.

TexasBella on November 4, 2008 at 6:55 PM

Rick Sanchez, quoting Democrat Party talking points, meeting each of Joe’s answers with another talking point…arguing Mr. Obama’s talking points for Obama…so much for journalistic objectivity…another newsman comes out….

…he savages him with someone else’s boilerplate, not an original thought in his head evidently, and then has the effrontery to thank Joe for calling in….

…the First Amendment guarentees a free press…evidently, the press itself has lost the thread….

Puritan1648 on November 4, 2008 at 7:01 PM

What a dill weed.

Andrew D on November 4, 2008 at 7:06 PM

I wish someone would ask idiots like Sanchez whether they ever heard of the tenth commandment!!!

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour’s.”

This is the oldest and best reason why “wealth redistribution” schemes are immoral.

Hey Joe. You endorsed a candidate, you dirty GOP jerk. You have therefore lost your status as a private citizen. So drop trou, bend over, and let us probe your bungtunnel.
CNN hath spoken.
