Video: Joe the Plumber, Rick Sanchez get nasty

posted at 5:15 pm on November 4, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Ben Smith, an exercise in futility as Sanchez grapples with the riddle of why a blue-collar Joe like Wurzelbacher wouldn’t want to stick his hand in the pocket of the rich and extract cash like it’s an ATM. Answer: “It’s called principles.”

But that’s not the best part. Wait until Sanchez starts airing his dirty laundry. About halfway through, if you’re pressed for time and want to skip ahead.

Wow, this is how we go…… Unbelievable!! What an ashhole.

Henny on November 4, 2008 at 5:21 PM

Sanchez is such a d-bag…with his twitter page! Best line from Joe…”so, it’s okay for me to go out and rob a bank then?”

ryanarch on November 4, 2008 at 5:22 PM

Joe is a freak to them. They do not understand the term “principles” or the following thereof.

sheesh on November 4, 2008 at 5:22 PM

If he runs for Congress I’ll donate to that campaign.

liquidflorian on November 4, 2008 at 5:22 PM

Twitter your resignation fool.

Something Liberals will never be able to comprehend. Too bad I can’t see this one, sounds like a smasher.

MooseStew on November 4, 2008 at 5:24 PM

Rick,

After you look up “principles,” look up “TOOL.” You’ll see your picture there.

Star20 on November 4, 2008 at 5:25 PM

Sanchez = Obama puppet.

Smooth Rooster on November 4, 2008 at 5:26 PM

I get the feeling Joe would punch that goofball in the nose if they were in the same studio!

Geez!

strosfan on November 4, 2008 at 5:26 PM

Rick Sanchez deserves to have Joe kick his smug a$$.

Oh man…if I lived in atlanta…

benrand on November 4, 2008 at 5:26 PM

GOD I HATE THE MEDIA.

CambellBrown on November 4, 2008 at 5:26 PM

“His acronym slash name…” ?

Who is this idiot? I guess this really shows my lack of watching the Communist News Network that I don’t recognize this moron.

He wants to interrupt and misstate what Joe says, and won’t shut up long enough to let him answer. Obviously this jagoff had an agenda and really didn’t want to provide a true interview opportunity here anyway. Why is he even on TV?

webproze on November 4, 2008 at 5:27 PM

I fuggin hate the media.

Abby Adams on November 4, 2008 at 5:28 PM

So, CNN believes the middle class should be lazy and take from the wealthy, among whom are self-made success stories.

What a sh*tty network; moreoever, what a sh*tty reporter.

madmonkphotog on November 4, 2008 at 5:28 PM

You should read some of the comments over there. These Libs are all moving knowingly, voluntarily toward socialism.

DerKrieger on November 4, 2008 at 5:29 PM

Gotta love Sanchez for dropping a “God Bless…” at the end. The only cogent thing he said during his spar with Joe. I’d like to see these two in the octagon!

ryanarch on November 4, 2008 at 5:30 PM

What an abusive jerk! If I see another one of these “ends justify the means” talking heads, I think that I’ll puke.

threeCents on November 4, 2008 at 5:31 PM

If I could only have 1 min. to be interviewed by that pompous ass!

time2taketheglovesoffGOP on November 4, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Rick “dirty” Sanchez is retarded.

How can anyone be against robbing people?!?!

lorien1973 on November 4, 2008 at 5:32 PM

what a total and complete dick. somebody needs to coldcock that arrogant stupid son of a bitch

Roger Waters on November 4, 2008 at 5:33 PM

A guy that killed someone while driving drunk should not be airing someone else’s dirty laundry in public. For all of JtP’s issues, none of them come with a bodycount.

rw on November 4, 2008 at 5:33 PM

Great Ganesha’s goiters, what a tool!

Loved how Joe didn’t give him the pass on “great discussion.” It wasn’t. It was an attempted sand-bag attack, and Joe turned it around admirably. I loved the “seeya” at the end (the “, prick” was silent)

I would pay a fair share of my hard-earned money for the security camera footage, should those two ever find themselves in the same bar.

Noocyte on November 4, 2008 at 5:34 PM

book idea for Joe the Plumber:

“whats the matter with New York City?”

basic morality elites:

“Thou Shalt not steal”

“Thou Shalt not Covet”

funny how morality and economics goes hand in hand isn’t it

jp on November 4, 2008 at 5:34 PM

Wow, Sanchez is a big dick.

How come the media doesn’t go after Obama or Biden like this?

Hatred for media intensifying.

gumble on November 4, 2008 at 5:34 PM

Joe made Sanchez go beserk. Funny stuff.

Fletch54 on November 4, 2008 at 5:34 PM

That was a hit piece on Joe the Plumber and he knew it.

And you are right Joe is a freak to the CNNs of the world.
Libs cant understand why much of America “votes against its own interests” as they put it. They want us to be welfare dead beats like libs are.

winged on November 4, 2008 at 5:34 PM

Sanchez’s analogies are all false anyways.

Cities/counties/states pay for firefighters, roads, etc (other than interstates). Those taxes are done through property, sales and other taxes.

Federal taxes (what we are talking about) are done to redistribute income to other people.

Sanchez, as I said, is retarded.

lorien1973 on November 4, 2008 at 5:34 PM

Henny on November 4, 2008 at 5:21 PM

My thought exactly! Except for the unbelievable part; Rick Sanchez is among the many biased journalist a-holes.

Achilles on November 4, 2008 at 5:35 PM

He was so incredulous that Joe wouldn’t support who was best for him! Could he have been looking any farther down his nose at him? Joe doesn’t want or need hand-outs…..that’s OK Ricky.

nick108 on November 4, 2008 at 5:35 PM

The Left and the media sure have the socialist meme down. This is very disappointing; regardless of the outcome, it’s clear that there is a growing number of Americans who would rather take someone else’s money instead of earning it themselves.

dugan on November 4, 2008 at 5:35 PM

This is the same press that tells us we need to talk about substantive policy issues with Obama and not be side-tracked by matters like his relationship with Ayers and Wright.

But apparently we need to spend time talking about Joe the Plumber’s private life and character and not the public policy issues he raises.

All of us know – we know for a fact - that if Joe came out for Obama and gave us a sob story the press would never dig into his life in this manner.

Corrupt press, indeed.

SteveMG on November 4, 2008 at 5:35 PM

I really wish Joe had given the right answer. The money doesn’t have to come from anywhere. Cut @#%@$! spending!

ElectricPhase on November 4, 2008 at 5:36 PM

If tools like Sanchez would’ve asked equally tough questions of Obambi – the person who is actually running for POTUS – we would be looking at an easy McCain victory.

Sanchez is an absolute disgrace. Joe, I’ll contribute to your legal defense fund if you’ll drive to Atlanta and kick that little jerk’s a–!

uncalheels on November 4, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Daily Kos has this posted.
Just received from the Obama campaign:

National Call Team,

Barack needs your help right now — our data indicates that the results will
be very close in many states. I can’t emphasize enough how urgent this
message is. Please go to our website and start calling as soon as you can.

We are not going to hit our goal of 500,000 calls for today by 3pm Central, unless we get at least 2,000 more people calling for the next hour.

Can you call now and continue for as long as you can manage?

From comments at Ace’s.

Hope and Change.

And after I voted I went down to McCain/Palin headquarters, and the phone bank is hopping. The folks I got were all nice and had voted for McCain/Palin.

funky chicken on November 4, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Yeah you have to be asked the tough questions…unless you’re BO and then it’s RACIST.

ronsfi on November 4, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Does anyone have an email address for Ricky Sanchez? I have a few questions for him.

uncalheels on November 4, 2008 at 5:37 PM

Tho’ it were possible to reach in to the computer/TV screen and grab “someone” by the nuts and place them in the vice-grips I have laying right next to me right now.

JtP talked with Lara Ingraham this morning. She inquired about a book he was researching/writing (based on principles, etc).

I will bet you that CNN/Dirty-Sanchez promised him they would discuss it and then sandbagged him.

aquaviva on November 4, 2008 at 5:37 PM

Joe is not alone in this part of the country…a lot of folks here in NW Ohio have lived their lives trying hard to live by some basic principles, you know, decency, love of family and country, appreciation of hard work and self-reliance, that sort of thing…money isn’t everything…hard work has worth…principles liberals will never ever understand.

And, after this election, regardless, we will again try to live our lives by these same principles. You work hard. You build a better mousetrap or start a business and God willing you have enough left over to hire someone or two to work alongside you and build something. At the end of the day you go home satisfied you accomplished something of value for someone…and yourself…and can look at yourself the next morning in the mirror and still like and appreciate the guy looking back at you.

And we don’t want our hard work and efforts to be taken away to subsidize those who do not from the pockets of those of us who do.

Guys like Rick Sanchez, and others of his ilk, are so full of themselves and their inflated self-importance that they…oh, never mind, they’ll never understand any of it.

coldwarrior on November 4, 2008 at 5:37 PM

Good thing I’ve been avoiding the television most of the day. I doubt I’ll be tuning in to CNN tonight.

JammieWearingFool on November 4, 2008 at 5:37 PM

Sanchez was just an ass. Joe endorsed a candidate so he’s open to investigation? What the hell kind of logic is that?

Ronnie on November 4, 2008 at 5:37 PM

Plumbers usually work around “stinky” situations…however, Joe is a breath of fresh air.

Country First on November 4, 2008 at 5:38 PM

It’s like trying to explain the power of a film’s music score to someone who’s deaf from birth.

RBMN on November 4, 2008 at 5:38 PM

Maybe Joe should have pointed out that he was “vetted” waaaay before he ever started actually stumping for McCain. It wasn’t his support of McCain that caused the intense media scrutiny, it was the fact that he dared to ask The One a question and the answer caused normal folks to go WTF?????

Ssharon on November 4, 2008 at 5:38 PM

Sanchez is a typical brain dead liberal and Joe should have slapped him up along side the head.

rplat on November 4, 2008 at 5:39 PM

How is it CNN asks this Joe these questions but doesn’t bother to ask them of the ONE? Sorry dumb question.

saltydogg14 on November 4, 2008 at 5:39 PM

Rick Sanchez needs the smile knocked off his face.

Joe should stop doing interviews.

Mercy4Me on November 4, 2008 at 5:39 PM

Rick, we’re all laughing at your superior intellect.

Dorvillian on November 4, 2008 at 5:40 PM

Sanchez kept saying “people who clear $250k.” Between my wife and I we do gross over $250k but after taxes is another story.

On a side note, I also went through college on the “night school” program for both my BS and MS while working full time and raising a family. It took me about 10 years to complete my education and you can believe I worked my a$$ off every step up the way.

Smooth Rooster on November 4, 2008 at 5:40 PM

Filthy Sanchez (Item #2)(content warning)………………

………… after reading, think of Sanchez as the catchter, not the pitcher.

Seven Percent Solution on November 4, 2008 at 5:41 PM

It’s unfortunate that Joe can’t see the tricks that Sanchez is trying to use – straw man after straw man.
“Wait, you don’t want rich people to pay taxes?”
“Wait, you want poor people to pay more taxes?”

It’s gotta be on purpose.

apollyonbob on November 4, 2008 at 5:41 PM

Oh my God, that was insane — what type of world does Sanchez live in where his behavior here is acceptable?
David

LifeTrek on November 4, 2008 at 5:41 PM

Tony737 on November 4, 2008 at 5:42 PM

I do not like that man, Sanchez.

ctmom on November 4, 2008 at 5:43 PM

what an ass.

and why aren’t there pie charts, AKA pictures, for the dirty sanchez’s of the world to figure out that the rich pay a heavier burden of the tax burden today than they did in 2000?

do we need to break out the dr suess language for these idiots?

bloghooligan on November 4, 2008 at 5:43 PM

What an arrogant moron. Anyone have an email for this guy?

How condescending can he be? “Like you’ll ever make over $250,000″. That’s not the point pal!

Does he think we’re stupid? Of course we pay taxes to support the infrastructure, military, etc. Joe’s point is that our tax money shouldn’t be going to INDIVIDUALS, especially those who don’t work because they don’t feel like it.

Not long ago this guy would have mocked me just like Joe the Plumber since I didn’t make enough to be close to Obama’s definition of “wealthy”. Now I’m pretty close. That’s the American dream! Who wants to have it stolen from them?

rcw on November 4, 2008 at 5:43 PM

I would like to buy Sanchez for what he’s worth and sell him for what he thinks he’s worth.

What a self-aggrandizing maroon.

kingsjester on November 4, 2008 at 5:44 PM

Rick Sanchez got drunk at his college frat and never sobered up. Communications major would be my guess.

Tell you what, since I’m making far less money than him, how about we take away his job and give it to me? Fair’s fair, right?

MadisonConservative on November 4, 2008 at 5:44 PM

principles look it up… wait CNN I’ll do it for you…

1 a: a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine, or assumption b (1): a rule or code of conduct (2): habitual devotion to right principles c: the laws or facts of nature underlying the working of an artificial device…

something CNN lacks completely…

Kaptain Amerika on November 4, 2008 at 5:44 PM

Brat4life on November 4, 2008 at 5:44 PM

“rich” and “poor” people both use the road, firehouse, etc…. why should “rich” people pay for these services disproportionately?

savant on November 4, 2008 at 5:45 PM

Sanchez said “you’ve thrust yourself into the spotlight.”
Obama thrust himself into the spotlight, too, but we’ve learned more about Joe the Plumber in a month than Obama in two years.

hawksruleva on November 4, 2008 at 5:45 PM

Pathetic that newsguy didn’t understand the word “priciple”.

right2bright on November 4, 2008 at 5:45 PM

I concur. That guy is an a-hole. How he cannot understand what Joe is saying is beyond me. People who do not pay taxes should not be getting a check in the mail. While they may pay the minimal amount for SS and Medicaid/Medicare, why should they be given money? Many of those are part-timers and students. Many people stick it to the system by claiming only their own income and not their total households so it looks like they are not bringing in enough.

A flat tax is what we really need as well as a luxury tax.

zimee on November 4, 2008 at 5:45 PM

Rick Sanchez turned to the Dark Side of the force when he
joined CNN.

It pains me to say it, but he is a Cuban American A-Hole.

Cuban4McCain on November 4, 2008 at 5:47 PM

Sanchez is the smarmiest person on TV. Smarmy like a used car salesman asking you, “Isn’t she a beaut!? How could you pass this up?”

grapeknutz on November 4, 2008 at 5:48 PM

I think it takes a great amount of compassion and courage to not only hire people with developmental disabilities like Rick Sanchez, but to also put them on air as news people. Cudos to CNN!

mauipundit on November 4, 2008 at 5:48 PM

This reporter is a fool if he feels no shame for the way he conducted himself in the interview. I’ve watch very little TV particularly the Democrat Media and this completely substantiates my position.

regal on November 4, 2008 at 5:48 PM

I had Q-tips in my ears so I might have heard wrong but didn’t Rick Sanchez just say that if you happen to see him in the street to kick him directly in the nuts? I may have heard wrong, but I’m sure it will wipe that smug look off his face.

I heard the beginning rather well though, when he said that he’s getting all these emails asking “why are you interviewing this guy” he forget to mention that they were internal company emails.

LevStrauss on November 4, 2008 at 5:48 PM

“Joe, according to the State of Ohio, you don’t have a real plumber’s license.”

“Well, Rick, according to Wikipedia, you killed a guy with a car while you were DUI. At least I haven’t killed anyone.”

DarthBrooks on November 4, 2008 at 5:48 PM

Holy CRAP this reporter is a DOUCHE! Unfrakkingbelievable!

I love that he’s going after Joe…trying to rip him a new one and have completely ignored Obama.

Sarjex on November 4, 2008 at 5:49 PM

Sanchez, you idiot, there are few words I could use to describe you aside from being a tool for the corporate fascist media. But even I’m too nervous to use them!

BobAnthony on November 4, 2008 at 5:51 PM

On December 10, 1990, Sanchez struck a pedestrian, Jeffrey Smuzinick, with his car on a residential street near Dolphin Stadium after Smuzinick darted into the road.[2] Smuzinick, who was inebriated at the time of the incident, was paralyzed and eventually died from his injuries in 1995

americaslaststand on November 4, 2008 at 5:53 PM

SANCHEZ IS A DOUCHE!

romanianhacker on November 4, 2008 at 5:53 PM

Sanchez can’t understand how anybody wouldn’t want to take someone else’s money.

If you make less you’re supposed to want theirs and he obviously believes that so long as the government takes your money and gives it to someone else that the state says deserves it more that you do, its not stealing.

The hell its not, theft is theft under the force and guise of the state doesn’t magically turn wrong into right.

Speakup on November 4, 2008 at 5:53 PM

jeffersonschild on November 4, 2008 at 5:53 PM

Sanchez, who had just left an NFL football game with his father, ……. was charged with, and pleaded no contest, to DUI.[2].

aquaviva on November 4, 2008 at 5:53 PM

Sanchez (in this clip) reminds me of some human trash I used to work with.

It’s not enough that they simply don’t want to understand you.

They just have to twist anything you say, anything about the way you are…basically invent anything….to cut you down in the eyes of others.

Like I said: human trash.

But, for someone in such a position of “high visibility” to reach for those depthsrevolting.

Lockstein13 on November 4, 2008 at 5:54 PM

Joe the Plumber is very well spoken for himself, I probably would freeze up when getting assailed like that on National TV (then again, it may just motivate me). He kept pepper spraying him with all sorts of unrelated topics, pseudo-gotcha moments, personal insults and twisting his words. I’ve seen Sanchez before, I think he is a dumb guy and I never liked that smirk of his. Also, by suggesting that alot of viewers didn’t want Joe on at the beginning of the interview, he set a combative tone right there from the start. That is completely unprofessional.

Now Joe doesn’t have a piece of papaer to read off of in front of him with questions and figures producers fed him, but he did pretty well with the PRINCIPLES in his heart. It is so hard for liberal moonbats like Sanchez to understand that alot of working people don’t want the government to take from others. those who are well off (250K isn’t even rich) pay their fair share and it is wasteful government spending that is the problem. there is more than enough revenue for roads and bridges, what Obama wants the money for is Economic Rights, full out redisbritution from one to another personally.

How the dimwit came to the conclusion that Joe wants people making less than 250K to pay more in taxes is beyond me. His neurons aren’t firing at an appropirate rate. And then going after Joe personally the way he did, as if to discredit his opinion…do what Joe said you bum and go after Obama! You know, the guy with one hell of a shady background running for President?

Sanchez might have made his Daily Kos reading partisans happy with his condescending treatment but I have even more respect for Joe.

Whoa. The worst example of the media out of control I’ve seen in the entire campaign – and it comes on the last day. I can’t believe they are not only piling and KGB-ing this guy, but also distorting everything he says the minute he says it, live on the air.

Baphomet on November 4, 2008 at 5:55 PM

The Federal government does not provide local fire protection. The cites and counties do and they are paid for by other taxes other than federal income taxes. I am fine with paying taxes for these required services. But the federal government uses it’s tax revenue to pay for all kinds of crap that can not be justified by the powers granted to it in the Constitution. I am not fine with anyone paying increased taxes in order to spread the wealth around or pay for things that the federal government has no business doing. For example the Department of Education. Show me the part of the Constitution that says the federal government provides for the education of the people. Again that is done by the local governments.

Maggie45 on November 4, 2008 at 5:54 PM

Condescending indeed. Sanchez never even bothered to find out who Joe was or what made him tick, he just attacked him for not being who he thought he should be.
