Track today’s vote at Hot Air!

In partnership with AOL News, we have a handy way to track the votes in every state. The interactive map below will tell you what states have polls open, when they close, and will track the calls made by the AP on whether each state goes to Barack Obama or John McCain. Click on each state to see a county-by-county breakdown of the voting, as well as more detailed information on state totals.

I’ll be checking this throughout the day, and it’s just one of many reasons to make Hot Air your primary Election Day website!

Update: Bumped to near top.

Ok, my Ohio Absentee ballot for McCain / Palin was sent in a while ago.

I was so nervous about today until I read this (Obama is Toast) (via Ace of Spades). Long read, but absolutely excellent analysis and very optimistic about the results for a McCain stomping of Obama today. So long as people get out and VOTE! You want something to lift your spirits today, read that article. It immediately lifted my spirits and made me very optimistic about today!

I was at my polling place at 6:45am, 24th in line, got in and outta there by 7:20 with my votes for McCain/Palin and Thaddeus McCotter! BOOYAH!

Now the wait begins!

One vote in Virginia for Palin/McCain. 1 hour 40 minutes in line. Longest wait for me since I’ve voted (1980).

joseywales on November 4, 2008 at 8:24 AM

My husband and I voted by absentee ballot already in WI. Both of our families are voting for McCain in WI. The few that we have that are dems are not voting this year. I told my family to get their friends to vote up there and vote for McCain.

Brat4life on November 4, 2008 at 8:24 AM

I early voted. While in line I thought about the people in Iraq that were killed waiting in line for their first vote, and I wondered how some American’s can bother to complain about anything.

When I got to my booth I was actually nervous, like when I took my drivers license test as a teenager. I triple checked my votes before pushing the button. I left with my head held high, proud to be an American.

cannonball on November 4, 2008 at 8:24 AM

Just anecdotal from a state that isn’t in play, but I talked to our county elections person here in Fayetteville (the one in Arkansas) yesterday and early voting is up around 1,000%.

tcraft on November 4, 2008 at 8:28 AM

I read on another blog or post where someone did not vote for McCain because he was in a “blue” state (NY). He cast a vote for a third party candidate as a protest. His reasoning was that it wouldn’t matter. No one should accept the “it won’t matter” argument. That only guarantees the outcome. Even if the state stays “blue”, the overall popular vote is affected.

Vote McCain/Palin no matter where you live. You may be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

Here’s a hopefull note from Indiana. I voted this moring at about 7:45 AM, in my lopsidded Dem district. Dems here outnumber Repubs about 6 to 1. There was no line, and interestingly there was not am Obama sign anywhere in evidence. Every other candidate for all parties had signs representing them outside the ropw line, but not Obama. I don’t think many of these Hoosier Democrats are voting for him.

MikeA on November 4, 2008 at 8:29 AM

After months of pollsters and pundits telling us it’s over. How refreshing is this to see 0-0? The way it should be. Let us vote.

This made my day.

kevinkristy on November 4, 2008 at 8:30 AM

I didn’t early vote. I’m braving the lines today and already know it’s going to be much more than an hour wait.

Aurvant on November 4, 2008 at 8:30 AM

Just voted here in North Carolina. No wait in my precinct (43% had early voted), I was literally the only one in line when I walked up to the check-in. 190th to vote by 8 am, can’t imagine we’ll have much lines today — certainly not like the commenter above from Virginia.

HoosierCon on November 4, 2008 at 8:32 AM

Just voted. Have never seen such a long line at the local precinct.

I voted using a paper ballot. Got out a lot faster than those waiting to use the touch-screen machines. Real slow on the touch screen lines…too many voters had no idea at all how to use them. Being a dyed in the wool Luddite, I guess, that paper ballot is a good thing for old guys like me to use.

Witnessed a small number of “voters” “discussing/arguing” with poll workers about how “they were not told where they should/could vote.”

One would think that IF voting were so important to these folks they’d take the time to figure it all out before they arrived and got in line.

Anyway, a few miles north of here the Toledo Police Department has told its officers to keep their riot gear with them all day. Not a good sign of the times.

Here’s a hope and a prayer that the smart voters (and lots of them) voted for McCain. The alternative for the next four years just doesn’t rest well with this old grey dog.

coldwarrior on November 4, 2008 at 8:33 AM

Just finished voting across the street from where I live.

Kind of depressing voting straight party. 8 positions for office, and only two of them have republican candidates to vote for. At least I got to vote down a state socialized medicine initiative.

I was surprised. I hadn’t pre-registered, but it took me less time than those that had, roughly 12 minutes.

Oh, and I could have understood when the old lady who looked confused asked for another ballot. The guy my age, not so much, but I could see him handing over his old ballot.

Genesis 18

And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

And he said, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

As soon as my laundry is dry, we’re heading to the polls and then out to breakfast (it’s at my daughter’s school across the street). Along with my husband’s absentee ballot sent in over the weekend, that’ll be two more McCain votes in Virginia.

I feel a bit like an expectant father from years gone by – pacing outside the delivery room, hoping everything will be okay, worried that it won’t… but mostly, aggrivated at waiting.

Anna on November 4, 2008 at 8:39 AM

ctdad just took my car to vote. It has 2 McCain/Palin bumper stickers, a Hero/Hottie bumper sticker and a NOBAMA sticker. It will be the only Republican car in the lot and the vote won’t matter, but it feels good to piss of the libs at the polls.

I’ll go with the kids this afternoon.

Glad to have a fellow Hooiser here. By the way, while I agree with your prayer, on this day in particular I am praying that we will be with God, rather than just Him being with us. In my view that is really what this election is about; and what each of our individual choices on the ballot means.

Oldnuke on November 4, 2008 at 8:42 AM

A few thoughts to carry with you today, courtesy of a friend across The Pond…

“I’m against ignorance, I’m against sloppy, emotional thinking. I’m against fashionable thinking. I am against the whole cliché of the moment.”
Herman Kahn

This, thought Winston, was the most frightening aspect of the party regime-that it could obliterate memory, turn lies into Truth and alter the Past. The Party slogan was “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.”
Orwell, from 1984

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don’t mean to do harm– but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.
T S Eliot

And finally, a word of advice about those exit polls…

“I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are. If I killed them all there would be news from Hell before breakfast.”
William Tecumseh Sherman

EnglishMike on November 4, 2008 at 8:42 AM

Oooh yeah, here we go folks. Finally, after today it will all be over. Those words may carry more wieght than I intend at the moment but I’m going to do my part and vote McCain.
Go vote and stay away from the exit polls.

Voted here in Toledo. I actually had about a 10 minute wait in line at 7:10 am. There are more people out voting, and I would say that my precinct is about 50% White 50% African American. Lots of Obama signs out. Dunno what the rest of Ohio is going to look like.

Saw this charming headline from Drudge:

Toledo Police brace for possible civil unrest

One more bad thing, there were about 8-10 races where I had to vote D because there was no other option. Lucas County Republican Party is in shambles.

A little story…

I was in the air on election night in 1976, on a C-141 with about forty other fellas. Nearby were six more C-141s. We were all full of piss and vinegar.

Then the planes turned around.

It was a quiet flight back to ‘The World’, and a very long one.

Now in 2008 my son is in the air. He was home on leave from Iraq and we put him on a plane yesterday headed back to Mosul.

VOTE for the Constitution today for righteousness sake.

Do not hide presuming you need not do your duty. VOTE. How can our nation be blessed or be the inspiration to bless all the nations of the earth without honoring the gift God granted, our Constitution and our Constitutional government? Without respect for our Constitution, we are just like the rest who do not honor what is sacred, “and their sin is very grievous.”

Thank God for all good things, no matter how great or small. Treasure our blessings, gifts and talents by exercising and using them, not by burying them unused.

VOTE,
encourage others, and pray,
“for ten’s sake.”

For what it’s worth: I drove all around NJ yesterday, from Monmouth County to Ocean, over to Mercer, up to Middlesex and back down to Monmouth. Admittedly most of the driving was on major highways, but I made an effort to count the McCain and Obama signs. Result—a paultry 4 McCain and 2 Obama. It was hard to find them among all the local race signs. But that is it. 2:1 McCain.

The fella behind me in line this morning works for Bell Helicopter. He has two daughters in the Navy, both chopper pilots. :)

Talk about a family business!

God bless this wonderful country!

Hey….Did anyone have the choice between a “I Voted” sticker and getting to stick their finger in some purple ink?

Bernadette, thanks for the name-calling. Identified yourself pretty quickly as a liberal Republican aka Democrat. I’ll be at the convention that nominates Palin in four years, probably in seats previously occupied by McCain delegates.

Rule is that Republicans get the purple finger and Democrats get the sticker. This way they can take it off and vote again.
