Round two: PA, FL, MO; Update: NBC calls Pennsylvania for Obama; Update: Fox too

posted at 8:00 pm on November 4, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

No calls yet in round one as I write this. Florida and Missouri won’t be called until late, either, but if The One’s exit poll margin in Pennsylvania really is 15 points, there’s at least a chance it could go early and puncture Maverick’s balloon.

New general election updates will appear in this thread, but I’ll update the last one with results from those states as they come in.

Update: Bright and early as the clock strikes eight, NBC calls Pennsylvania for The One. Start drinking.

Update: Here’s my map from the predictions thread the other day. To get to a McCain victory, you had to flip 50 electoral votes from blue to red. Try doing it without Pennsylvania.

Update: Steve Kornacki does the math. Barring any very surprising upsets, Obama’s already banked 259 EVs. All he needs is one red state from 2004 worth 11 EVs to turn blue and he’s pretty much set.

Update: ABC also says Obama takes Pennsylvania. And, to add insult to injury, New Hampshire.

Update: Exit poll data from Florida per Marc Ambinder has Obama, amazingly, winning Hispanics by 10 points.

Update: Fox News says Obama wins Pennsylvania, too. And according to the CNN map, with 36 percent reporting, he leads in Florida by more than 200,000 votes.

Update: A McCain aide acknowledges to Ambinder that they need a miracle.

if Fox is calling PA based on the O camp talking points and exit polls and 1% reports, this IS going to be a long night. never thought they’d be drinking the kool-aid too. Will be awaiting their retraction. PA will go red.

They have to win every one of the remaining six seats to have a filibuster-proof majority. One more GOP victory and there’s a filibuster.

Isn’t it sad that I’m ROOTING for 41 seats? We’re pathetic this year.

malan89 on November 4, 2008 at 8:47 PM

For those looking for some hope tonight, check out this analysis by Sean Malstrom:

The state that will be erroneously called for Obama will be Pennslyvania. In Pennslyvania, all the Obama votes are mostly in the Philly and Pittsburg area and Obama will comfortably carry those areas. And those areas are the eastern part of Pennslyvania with the western part being more rural. With the ‘Obama leads’ that Philly and Pittsburg area comes in, and the myth that Obama is ahead 25 points (or whatever) in PA being believed by the anchors, they will call PA early. But once all the rest of the state votes, they will have to turn it into a toss-up. They will be EXTREMELY reluctant to call the state for McCain even when the votes clearly show he has won there (and he *will* win there.)

I’m going to cross my fingers and have another beer.

WTF – Pennsylvania is only showing 7 counties as reporting in so far.

Kamikaze on November 4, 2008 at 8:52 PM

PA hurts bad, especially with NH also called for Obama. McCain has to win either NV, CO or NM plus all of Bush’s Red states from 2004 (minus Iowa I believe). NM looks out of reach because of the Hispanic vote going for Obama so heavily (so much for open borders, huh McCain?).

Pray for McCAin, but some good news on the Senate front, saxby Chambliss won his seat and the Dems now must sweep 6 of 6 to get to 60. Mary Landrieu is in trouble so they could lose that one. It is imperative The dems do not reach 60 votes in the Senate.
