Round three: CO, NM; Update: Fox calls Ohio for Obama; Update: CNN calls Iowa for Obama; Update: Fox calls Virginia for Obama; Update: Denver Post calls Colorado for Obama; Update: NBC calls the election for Obama
posted at 9:06 pm on November 4, 2008 by Allahpundit
At this point I’d be shocked if either of them mattered, but the polls have closed so here’s a new thread for results.
As I’m writing that, CNN calls Minnesota and Michigan for The One.
Update: Turns out my prediction was too conservative: I had Ohio going for McCain. Fox calls it for The One. And with that, the hour of reckoning is at hand.
Update: I said in this post over the weekend that under no circumstances could Maverick lose more than one among Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Unless the network projections are drastically wrong, he’s already lost two. According to MSNBC, with both PA and OH in the ledger, Obama has 195 EVs with 55 still to come from California. Florida would put him over the top.
Update: Ohio’s the first red state from 2004 to flip, incidentally, and the only one Obama needs thanks to its high EV number. He can win the election now simply by holding Kerry’s states.
Update: The nets will be appropriately cautious about calling Florida early after the fiasco eight years ago but Obama’s leading steadily by 150,000-200,000 votes with 60 percent reporting and the bellwether counties don’t look good. If that flips, we’re approaching landslide territory.
Update: Obama wins New Mexico, unsurprisingly.
Update: The polls are closed now in Nevada and Montana too, but neither will matter. CNN calls Iowa for The One.
Update: With 84 percent reporting, Obama’s now ahead in Virginia by 13,000 votes.
Update: With 91 percent reporting and a lead of more than 50,000 votes, Fox hands Virginia to The One. That gives him 220 EVs, according to my tally. California will put him over the top.
Update: More blood on the floor: The Denver Post says Colorado belongs to The One. We should have a call on California from the networks within the next five minutes, and that should wrap things up.
Update: And there’s California, and there’s the election.

Whether you like it or not he will be your president. Further, it is a little pathetic to hope for bad things to happen to the country so you can say he was a bad pick, don’t you think?

I am sorry for my stupid fellow Ohioans once again handing the White House back to the bad guys.
Please don’t hold it against all of us. I spent hours and hours making phone calls this year. Took a day off today to do it, in fact.
I was prepared for a Mac loss, but really thought it would be because of losing VA or FL.. Seeing my own state go blue… ughh.. I think I’ll drink for a few days. If VA and FL stay red and its because of Ohio… I’ll REALLY be bummed.
Feed on, trolls.

Canadian Guy:
I don’t think that is fair. Reagan had to take a couple of shots at even getting the nomination and when he ran and won, look he was running against.
This is why Republicans lose. They always attack each other. No wonder other people do not have faith in them. Why would they?
So now, all these people, none of whom could have done as well as McCain himself did tonight, will blame McCain. God, what a bunch of ingrates.

If anyone has connects to the campaign do whatever you can to discourage an early concede. This isn’t over, this is just a media con to push the Obama hoax.
Trust me, I was never a Gore fan, but I am a Democrat and there was nothing more frustrating then seeing dopey Gore give away our votes while whining away. This has to be a clean victory or else. We’re up for 4 years of class warfare and if McCain is really worried about us and healing our nation, then count our fricken votes first.

That makes Bush a great “Homeland Security Chief,” unfortunately it will not save his legacy (unless all hell breaks loose under Obama).

Sadly, many white men voted for Obama. The metrosexual is king. The union men that should be standing up for a man like McCain fell in line for a few dollars in their pockets. People no longer vote for what is best for the country, they only see their little piece of the pie.
tessa on November 4, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Do any of you people ever go out and talk to real people? Seriously.
Most Americans do not identify with the liberal or conservative ideology, they don’t think about politics that much, they are busy withtheir lives and other interests.
I live in Western PA, in a heavily blue collar area. These are the “Reagan Democrats,” they are socially moderate to conservative, very patriotic, and have little use for large welfare programs. But they reliably vote Democrat. This is NOT because they consider themselves to be liberals, but because they believe that Democrats will protect them, punish big companies like Exxon, and stop the Republicans from “shipping jobs overseas.”
All you people are missing what is most important. Yes, we grassroots people are upset at the republicans for abandoning conservative principles. But your typical independent or Reagan democrat, in considering who to vote for, does not think “hmm, republicans have spent to much, expanded government to much,” etc. Most think “republicans have given tax breaks to the rich, allowed oil companies to take advantage of us, shipped jobs overseas, caused the financial mess by deregulating Wall Street,” etc.
Yes, we need candidates who adhere to and articulate conservative principles. But we also need to relate them to people’s lives, and explain to them how they will be positively affected, while at the same time demolishing liberal arguments. This is a tough task, especially in today’s media environment, but we need somebody who fully understands economics, and is intelligent enough and quick enough on their feet to get accomplish this. This is the only way the republicans will ever be a significant force again.

You don’t get it – bad things ARE going to happen because he has absolutely no clue what he is doing. He has no clue about the economy, foreign relations, domestic policy, energy policy, healthcare, etc. The man can give a good teleprompter speech and spout talking points from his advisors. This country and this world needs someone who has more depth than the ability to give a speech.
This country is in deep dog crap because we just elected someone that my 8 year old nephew could out-govern.

It is hard to see how we can have a republican president again. In four years they will have let more illegal immigrants (dem voters) pour in and forever change the demographics and make it virtually impossible for a win in 2012. I am sure amnesty will be at the top of their agenda to guarantee 30-50 million new democratic voters. How many non-citizens voted in this election in key battleground states? It is just hard for me to comprehend that ballots were printed in spanish in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA–if you cannot speak English you don’t get to vote. It seems like a no brainer. What a sad, sad, sad, sad day!

Well, as some have said, could be a good chance for the Republican party to reorganize itself and finally get some direction. It took having Jimmah Carter around, in order to get Reagan. If Gerald Ford had won, we would most likely have not gotten Reagan from 81-89.
Actually it took Clinton, in order to get a GOP congress for a while. However, I cant recall them doing a whole lot for the past few years they were in power.
I can easily see Obama being like Jimmy Carter, or the first two years of leftist Clinton. For me, the scariest thing about Obama, is A – His liking of Judicial activist judges, and then Pelosi/Reid able to offer up whatever leftist crap legistation knowing Obama WILL sign it.

What are you talking about? Mitt’s lip gloss left quite a glossy shine on Bush’s @ss during the primaries. Obama may have run out of money with all of the footage. Also there is the fact that many book burners explicitly don’t like Mormons, in addition to otherwise normal people who are more quiet about their views that combine and make a large percentage. Having to kiss Bush’s @ss to win the primaries was where the election lost, regurgitating the talking points in favor of Bush’s policy killed them all.

Mac is a really cool guy, an honest to goodness hero, but he wasn’t a strong candidate, and he ran into an Obama buzzsaw.
