Round three: CO, NM; Update: Fox calls Ohio for Obama; Update: CNN calls Iowa for Obama; Update: Fox calls Virginia for Obama; Update: Denver Post calls Colorado for Obama; Update: NBC calls the election for Obama
posted at 9:06 pm on November 4, 2008 by Allahpundit
At this point I’d be shocked if either of them mattered, but the polls have closed so here’s a new thread for results.
As I’m writing that, CNN calls Minnesota and Michigan for The One.
Update: Turns out my prediction was too conservative: I had Ohio going for McCain. Fox calls it for The One. And with that, the hour of reckoning is at hand.
Update: I said in this post over the weekend that under no circumstances could Maverick lose more than one among Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Unless the network projections are drastically wrong, he’s already lost two. According to MSNBC, with both PA and OH in the ledger, Obama has 195 EVs with 55 still to come from California. Florida would put him over the top.
Update: Ohio’s the first red state from 2004 to flip, incidentally, and the only one Obama needs thanks to its high EV number. He can win the election now simply by holding Kerry’s states.
Update: The nets will be appropriately cautious about calling Florida early after the fiasco eight years ago but Obama’s leading steadily by 150,000-200,000 votes with 60 percent reporting and the bellwether counties don’t look good. If that flips, we’re approaching landslide territory.
Update: Obama wins New Mexico, unsurprisingly.
Update: The polls are closed now in Nevada and Montana too, but neither will matter. CNN calls Iowa for The One.
Update: With 84 percent reporting, Obama’s now ahead in Virginia by 13,000 votes.
Update: With 91 percent reporting and a lead of more than 50,000 votes, Fox hands Virginia to The One. That gives him 220 EVs, according to my tally. California will put him over the top.
Update: More blood on the floor: The Denver Post says Colorado belongs to The One. We should have a call on California from the networks within the next five minutes, and that should wrap things up.
Update: And there’s California, and there’s the election.

Just heard McCain say “Americans have spoken, and they’ve spoken clearly.”
He should have added: “And some of them have spoken several times, and in two or three different states.”

I’m a bit surprised by the filter tonight. I got pissed earlier in the night and dropped “fuck” in one of my comments accidentally and assumed it would just get rejected. But it seems they’ve taken down all of the content filters and I’ve been able to get away with Ace-level swearing (which I normally never do, but tonight is, obviously, an exception). I don’t know about the spam filter, but I don’t know how many spammers would take the time to wait for a open registration just to drop ads in these fairly short threads. I suppose AP’s giving us our last chance for free speech until they bring back the fairness doctrine.

No kidding! The last bastion of true freedom and democracy has just elected the greatest demagogue/fraud in U.S. history. I’m sure his ideological plans for America, stacking the Supreme Court, crushing the 2nd Amendment, imposing AGW controls, and various other lefty ideologies will destroy the very nature of the U.S. It may well, if ever, take generations to undo. Sad, VERY SAD!!

SECESSION IS REALLY THE ONLY SOLUTION NOW.
For a landmass roughly the size of Europe, I think it’s time for America to form several or a couple small countries. There are obviously too many crazies in North America now.
Let the insane people live in their own little insane countries and suffer from their own insane policies.

The GOP needs to get to a majority in either house of congress or 270 electoral votes in 2012. It needs to rely on principles, especially limited government, that allow it to appeal to a majority.

I fought my ass off, not for McCain, but against Obama. Ladies and Gentlemen, don’t take this result tonight for anything more than it was…a perfect storm. An unpopular president, a financial crisis, a minority canidate, a media that keep America in the dark for a full year that lead us to President Obama.
I always wish the best for my country, but will not bow down at the alter of Socialism. It is my honest feeling that most of the people that voted for Obama have no idea what they have done to our country. He sounded good and they hated Bush, so why not?
This is not the end of the Conservative Movement, tonight is the rebirth. John McCain was not a conservative. Sarah Palin is, but was handled poorly by the campaign and never given a real shot to connect with people who do not feel the way we do. She had no chance to succeed.
The Conservative Movement needs to regroup. It is my sincere belief that Bobby Jindal is the future of our party.
Make no mistake, this is a sad day for America and has left me truly shocked. “Today is the first time in my adult life that I am ashamed of my county”

I wasn’t born to walk on water
I wasn’t born to sack and slaughter
But on my soul, I wasn’t born
To stoop to scorn, and knuckle under
A man can learn to steal some thunder
A man can learn to work some wonder
And when the guantlet’s down,
It’s time to rise and climb the sky
And soon the moon will smoulder
And the winds will drive
Yes, a man grows older but his soul remains alive
All those tremulous stars still glitter
And I will survive!
Let my heart grow colder and as bitter as a falcon in the dive
There was a dream, a dying ember
There was a dream, I don’t remember
But I will resurrect that dream
Though rivers stream and hills grow steeper
For here in hell where life gets cheaper
Oh, here in hell the blood runs deeper
And when the final duel is near
I’ll lift my spear and fly
Piercing into the sky and higher
And the strong will thrive
Yes, the weak will cower while the fittest will survive
If we wait for the darkest hour
Till we spring alive
Then with claws of fire, we devour like a falcon in the dive

Wow. It just this moment hit me that I’m disenfranchised. I have no say in the federal government whatsoever, two Republican senators and a Republican representative in the House notwithstanding. They are as helpless as I am.
As much as the Dems whined about being shut out by Republicans for a few years there, they still had a voice in the government and the ability to filibuster. We won’t be able to stop a single judge or a single socialist program or a single tax hike from going through for the next two years at least. I’m a slave to my own government since they can force me to pay whatever amount they want me to pay and I get no real representation in government. Holy crap. Isn’t this the kind of thing our forefathers fought a revolution over?

Did you just drop “homey” in a comment? Awesome.
And totally, totally racist. LOL
What’s weird is that a lot of people have this image of America as being invincible. So they’ll vote for someone like Obama thinking “eh, what’s the worst that could happen”. It’s amazing. Do they realize that just some 65 years ago we came very close to losing control of the entire world to Nazi Germany? Americans can get through a lot, but living with a President that provides little leadership, knows nothing about the problem, and cares little about the problem of radical Islamic terrorism is going to be hard in the state of affairs we are living in today? Add the economic issues and we start getting into a possible FUBAR situation. Hopefully we can keep the damage to a minimum and restore some sense of calm and reality in 2010 and 2012. Start picking up the pieces now.

Don’t forget, folks:
- we had Carter before we had Reagan
- with the current economy, etc. Obama will have no easy path; he’s almost doomed to fail IMO
I really believe there’s a higher plan to all this, and in four years we’ll look back and say “Aha, so that’s why Obama was in place.”
It’s not much comfort, but I do believe it
For those who talk about finding a less socialist, more capital-friendly country to retire to, I say:
“My acceptance of the universe is not optimism, it is more like patriotism. It is a matter of primary loyalty. The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it. The point is not that this world is too sad to love or too glad not to love; the point is that when you do love a thing, its gladness is a reason for loving it, and its sadness a reason for loving it more. All optimistic thoughts about England and all pessimistic thoughts about her are alike reasons for the English patriot. Similarly, optimism and pessimism are alike arguments for the cosmic patriot.”
– G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
Substitute America for “world” and American for “cosmic,” and that’s how I feel about our great nation. She needs us now more than ever.

Someone said, “an American Idol president”. That is exactly right. Politics is all about getting elected, not about serving your country and the campaigns have gotten slicker and slicker.
Since the majority of Americans do not pay attention to this stuff, on election day they feel they have a patriotic duty to vote. So, like a drunk, they stagger to the polls and look at the ballot for the first time and go, WTF…..?! Then they flashback to the constant drumming in their brain, “Obama good, McCain racist”, and mark Obama. Then they mark any other name they are familiar with so all the incumbents are re-elected.
Then they go eenie, meenie, mynie, moe and some sewers get money and some other pet projects that they have heard on the news as being good get money and they walk out of the building with an “I voted” sticker and go to the bar for a beer.
In the meantime, the better half, the wife or girl-friend go to the polls feeling all touchy feely and vote the way Oprah or the lesbos on the view told them to vote.
Ah the hell with it. With every change there is opportunity and I am putting on my thinking cap tomorrow and will figure out a way to make some money for my family off of this.

“Who’s up for starting R.ACORN? If they can do and nothing happens, so can we. Come on, we only have 2 years to rig the next election!”
Sporty, I’ve been thinking about that for a couple of weeks now.
It amazes me that people can actually look forward to 2012, start laying plans to win, and all that, when in my view, that’s kind of beside the point when fraud is smiled on, and any attempts to prevent it are forbidden.
Becauase as far as I can tell, this was the last election.
Therefore, I’m thinking, is it time to cheat, too?
And I have to tell you, I’ve never cheated on anything. Not income taxes, nothing. But what good honor if the only thing that will give you back democracy is cheating now, or revolution later?
It’s a quandry. I think, though, that the honorable choice is revolution later. (For one thing, they WILL use the law when the other side cheats.)
Am I just going off on some kind of crazy thinking? I’ve never gone off on crazy thinking before. And this all has seemed crystal clear to me. So did I suddenly, in the past few months, lose all my senses regarding this one thing?
Because really, it just seems totally obvious to me. Here in these what appear to be last days, when we can still read any news that isn’t sanctioned by those in power.
Again – I don’t understand how anyone can mouth platitudes about “supporting the president” or even “wait till 2012,” because I think this was it, for good. From now on out, it’s all a sham.

Do not worry about him. The dissident known as ManlyRash will be in my custody soon doing hard labor in The Obama Stalag.

God bless the memory of James Madison. He would be weeping now at what we have witnessed tonight.
It’s spelled M-O-B.
I mourn our republic.

I used to think Florida was a solid Republican state. Now I thank God the Dims didn’t nominate someone less unpopular than John Kerry 4 years ago.

I’m relieved too. I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck while watching my kids get run over in the process. That is the part that really bothers me.

Now watch those jobs disappear after President Hussein and His Dems ram Card Check through. Then watch Hussein tax those 401Ks. And then watch Reverend Wright start telling America to kiss his right royal hiney.
And now that President Hussein has “proven” to the world that 21st century America is indeed responsible for the slavery that occurred 200 years ago (guilt by association?), and all the self-flagellating lefties have “confessed our sins” on our behalf, watch the reparation claims rise.
Pay up America, pay up! The “healing” starts on the LEFT and doesn’t stop ’til it’s “cleansed” your wallet ’til its fully “repented”.
