Round three: CO, NM; Update: Fox calls Ohio for Obama; Update: CNN calls Iowa for Obama; Update: Fox calls Virginia for Obama; Update: Denver Post calls Colorado for Obama; Update: NBC calls the election for Obama

At this point I’d be shocked if either of them mattered, but the polls have closed so here’s a new thread for results.

As I’m writing that, CNN calls Minnesota and Michigan for The One.

Update: Turns out my prediction was too conservative: I had Ohio going for McCain. Fox calls it for The One. And with that, the hour of reckoning is at hand.

Update: I said in this post over the weekend that under no circumstances could Maverick lose more than one among Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Unless the network projections are drastically wrong, he’s already lost two. According to MSNBC, with both PA and OH in the ledger, Obama has 195 EVs with 55 still to come from California. Florida would put him over the top.

Update: Ohio’s the first red state from 2004 to flip, incidentally, and the only one Obama needs thanks to its high EV number. He can win the election now simply by holding Kerry’s states.

Update: The nets will be appropriately cautious about calling Florida early after the fiasco eight years ago but Obama’s leading steadily by 150,000-200,000 votes with 60 percent reporting and the bellwether counties don’t look good. If that flips, we’re approaching landslide territory.

Update: Obama wins New Mexico, unsurprisingly.

Update: The polls are closed now in Nevada and Montana too, but neither will matter. CNN calls Iowa for The One.

Update: With 84 percent reporting, Obama’s now ahead in Virginia by 13,000 votes.

Update: With 91 percent reporting and a lead of more than 50,000 votes, Fox hands Virginia to The One. That gives him 220 EVs, according to my tally. California will put him over the top.

Update: More blood on the floor: The Denver Post says Colorado belongs to The One. We should have a call on California from the networks within the next five minutes, and that should wrap things up.

Update: And there’s California, and there’s the election.

… and there’s a strong chance that he/she may never know America like I know America. – Fozzy

That’s what scares me also. My littl girl is only two years old, she won’t remember the once great nation we used to live in.

Tony737 on November 4, 2008 at 11:36 PM

joest73: I love and support this country. But that doesn’t mean that I have to blindly support wrong-headed policies.

Hasn’t that been the mantra of the left for 7 years of the Bush White House? Dissent is the noblest form of patriotism!

I’m not changing positions one whit. I’m still supporting America and the Constitution, and our soldiers in the field. Where Obama stands with me, then I’ll support him too. But when he goes off the ranch, he does it without me.

hawksruleva on November 4, 2008 at 11:36 PM

The thing is to know how to make conservatism appeal to more people,

If only McCain had taken the time to explain during the debates how “tax cuts for the rich” are good for everyone.

VP elect Joe Biden: They’re going to test him.
Any wagers on what the test is going to be?
I keep going through a few in my mind and all of them seem to involve the intended destruction of a certain not-so-lucky country in a certain fucked up part of the world.

One bonus for 2012 – how many readers will NYT have then, if it still exists?

hawksruleva on November 4, 2008 at 10:37 PM

In looking for a silver lining, this is about the only thought that provides solace…
Who will read the NYT, LAT, etc. when there is no more scapegoat?
Who can John Stewart skewer? How will the View fill an hour of TV?
What about Olbermann? Matthews? Will their heads explode when they are forced to attempt consecutive nights of positive commentating?
Hollywood will be sapped of all material.
When another natural disaster/act of terrorism strikes, who will be left to blame?
When energy prices skyrocket, whose greediness will be on trial?
Think of how much in the liberal world relies on “dumb ol’ Bush and his warmonger cronies”. I see this as an experiment in liberalism bound for an epic fail.

At least Bill and Hillary love America. I don’t think there is really a sliver lining here. This is all pretty much bad.

Although, I truly hope I’m wrong and Obama is better than his past suggests. We really don’t know him at all. And that is bad but maybe there is a decent individual in there and he can learn to respect and honor the flag and our antheum and all the symbols that mean liberty and justice in the world. Maybe he can really convert.

John McCain didn’t lose this election. WE lost this election by eating our own. Because McCain said he would take the lead that makes him the goat? Hardly. We are the party that sat on our asses and pointed fingers for the last two years.

Now WHAT are we going to do about it. Cook up some RINOs?
Stir fry the FENCE BUILDERS? Steam some BOMBTHEPLANET Neo?

Or are we going to sit down and find ONE THING, just ONE, that we all can agree on and move on to the next issue? Build a genuine platform for the party and the country’s future?

Nope. I figure we will have a smorgasbord of RINOs, FENCE BUILDERS and BOMBTHEPLANET until only one man(or woman) is left standing.

McCain went after Obama on everything you mentioned except Wright, and everyone already knew about that.

That is what you are completely ignoring, your line of attack against Obama was a failure. People did not seem has a scary person and when you had people like Buckley and Noonan and all sorts of high profile conservatives slobbering all over him…why would they?

Powell is not a big conservative, but most people think he is a moderate, they don’t think he is a crazy person and when he supported Obama it made him seem safe. So going after Obama on Wright over and over again was not cutting it.

People are worried about their jobs, their 401Ks, they do not give a rat’s ass about Wright.

Terrye on November 4, 2008 at 11:40 PM

I’m watching CBS’s coverage of the McCain concession, and they’re being so kind and gracious to him now. Do you think they’d have been the same to him if he had won? I doubt it.

Grab the guns, the bibles, and your families. Cling to them, bitterly, for the next four years, and pray that a new Reagan rises from the ashes and asks us if we are better off in four years than we are now.

McCain’s problem is that he didn’t really have solid indy support. He just had the media’s love of his war heroism and previous disagreement with George Bush. Reagan had actual indy support. Guess which one won?

CanadianGuy on November 4, 2008 at 11:42 PM

The Blogging the Quran that gets posted here occasionally is very good. I wonder why it hasn’t updated lately.

And I wonder if it will ever update again…

It moved from HotAir, sadly. I think it’s going on somewhere else.

CherokeeJack on November 4, 2008 at 11:42 PM

Looks like we will at least keep filibuster with or without Coleman winning.

Consolation I guess. But better than complete disaster.

gophergirl on November 4, 2008 at 11:42 PM

I remember one of W’s speeches where he coined the phrase “the soft bigotry of low expectations.” That’s how Obama got elected IMO.

Proud Texan on November 4, 2008 at 11:42 PM

VP elect Joe Biden: They’re going to test him.

Hmm, Has anyone actually clued him in on which article of the constitution governs the VP postion.

lol, the media freaking ignored everything this man said after writing him off 16 years ago for plagerizing speeches.

Stand up there Joe, take a bow on the campaign. Oh God I am so sorry.

Hey guys, do you think conservative blogs will get more hits since we are now the opposition party? It seems being the opposition has worked 4 liberal bloggers.

terryannonline on November 4, 2008 at 11:43 PM

Nice… let’s start up the racist remarks. If you were intelligent racists, you’d know that Hispanics are the much more likely than blacks to kill a goat in celebration. You may need to watch the Discovery channel more often or otherwise improve your feeble attempts at acquiring knowledge.

bayam on November 4, 2008 at 11:38 PM

Wow bayam, guess you missed the article on Obama’s Kenyan family slaughtering several animals in celebration of thier relative? But, when have facts ever stopped kids like you from the truth as long is it makes you feel clever.

ClassicCon on November 4, 2008 at 11:43 PM

when do we start planning the conservative revolution?

mountaineer for liberty on November 4, 2008 at 11:40 PM

Tonight. And remember, even though they will live with it, half the population of the country does not like or agree with this outcome. We have the desire and the numbers to change this government and we should get with the program.

All aboard for the Gulch, final call…

I don’t have the gold yet, but save a place for me.

Viewtifulgare on November 4, 2008 at 11:43 PM

seriously, what does that even mean?

eh on November 4, 2008 at 11:41 PM

It means moderates and independents are no longer welcome in the GOP.

NO MORE RINOS!

NO MORE RINOS!

NO MORE RINOS!

seriously, what does that even mean?

eh on November 4, 2008 at 11:41 PM

Republican In Name Only. Like the one we just had…time to go with real conservatives.

Pennsylvania…good show. Murtha. Way to Go. Idiots.

HornetSting on November 4, 2008 at 11:43 PM

I think petunia is right. The idea that all McCain had to do was pick someone other than Palin is naive.

mycowardice on November 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM

Eh. Whatever. I don’t want to waste any more time or anger with you.

Achilles on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

This is a protest vote against Bush. Had G.W. been a real conservative, stuck to his principles and fought some battles in Washington – well, he didn’t.

Obama’s undoing will simply be his utter lack of experience and non-vetoes on left wing legislation.

But the press will focus more on the good than the bad of course. Amazing how that stock market crashed right before the election. Amazin’.

Now everyone stop being a bunch of whiners, top with the name calling. You sound like left-wingers. Oppose the government when they are on the wrong side, don’t sling pejoratives.

spec_ops_mateo on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

wondered how long it would be for someone to balme Sarah palin for the loss-the one TRUE CONSERVATIVE running!!

Bullhead on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

Watch the stock market improve over the next month.

Depression indeed!

hawkdriver on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

I’ll call this douche bag Senator or Mr. Organizer until he leaves office, even if it’s 8 years from now. I didn’t vote for this POS.

I’ll do what the other side has done for 8 years. It was always “Mr. Bush”, or chimp, never President Bush. Well, it’s Mr Obama or POS or something but never president. He’s not my president.

worlok on November 4, 2008 at 11:02 PM

I can’t stop crying. This fraud is not, and will not ever, be my President.

califcon on November 4, 2008 at 11:09 PM

I also will never consider this socialist, empty-suit fraud my President. I will call him “Current Occupant” just as the other side has done to President Bush for years. “Barack Obama Current Occupant” or “BOCO” is his handle to me.

rightthinkr on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

damn Florida goes to Obama

jp on November 4, 2008 at 11:42 PM

Weird. Amendment 2 (woman is only between man and woman) passed by 70% or something, too.

lorien1973 on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

On the most positive not I can think of at the moment…I’m an even stronger conservative now than ever.

My wife is pregnant too. The only consolation is that I was born under Carter…

James on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

i hear ya, but we still haven’t fixed that giant mess completely either… gov’t bloat is unquenchable without revolution

… and there’s a strong chance that he/she may never know America like I know America. – Fozzy

That’s what scares me also. My littl girl is only two years old, she won’t remember the once great nation we used to live in.

Tony737 on November 4, 2008 at 11:36 PM

it’s time to take back the country… i’ll quite my job tomorrow without notice if someone offered me a job to rebuild the conservative movement but alas, i know no one in power… i just blog til my fingers bleed.

if anyone needs a worthwhile employee, let me know. i work in a liberal city in the laziest most-ignorant municipal government on earth… i don’t know if i can make it 4 years with this crap.

Fozzy Bear on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

I’m am so sad for my kids. I’m sad for my grandparents and I’m glad they’re not here to see this.

My baby girl keeps telling me she’s afraid since I told her McCain lost.

It makes me sick because we’re not going to drill anywhere and we’re not going to get to use natural gas or coal. It’s all gone. What do those stupid f’ers suggest we do? Plug my car into a windmill at night? I hate them. I hate Al Gore. This all started because he was such a sorry f’n loser. Half this country voted that bastard in – The Big O and I hate every one of them.

I hate that they don’t give a $hit about my family who fought in wars for them and they don’t give a damn about this country. It’s their country now and it’s different.

I’m going into news darkness for a while. I don’t care anymore because my cares no longer matter. I no longer have a say. I’m glad we live on a farm because we’ll end up living off the land.

Well, I’m just going to go sob myself to sleep and wake up in the morning and go to work and face the liberal dolts that surround me. I can’t decide whether to take my American flags off my office door or not. I think I’d rather replace it with a rebel flag. I’d get fired really quick and I could start living off the government. I guess I might as well get a jump start.

See you all. I don’t know when I’ll be back. I’ll miss what we had.

I’ll miss you the most Manly Rash.

Oink on November 4, 2008 at 11:44 PM

Please stop with the civil war/collapse of society crap. Ain’t gonna happen. America is too good, regardless of who is the Prez.
