Round three: CO, NM; Update: Fox calls Ohio for Obama; Update: CNN calls Iowa for Obama; Update: Fox calls Virginia for Obama; Update: Denver Post calls Colorado for Obama; Update: NBC calls the election for Obama

At this point I’d be shocked if either of them mattered, but the polls have closed so here’s a new thread for results.

As I’m writing that, CNN calls Minnesota and Michigan for The One.

Update: Turns out my prediction was too conservative: I had Ohio going for McCain. Fox calls it for The One. And with that, the hour of reckoning is at hand.

Update: I said in this post over the weekend that under no circumstances could Maverick lose more than one among Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Unless the network projections are drastically wrong, he’s already lost two. According to MSNBC, with both PA and OH in the ledger, Obama has 195 EVs with 55 still to come from California. Florida would put him over the top.

Update: Ohio’s the first red state from 2004 to flip, incidentally, and the only one Obama needs thanks to its high EV number. He can win the election now simply by holding Kerry’s states.

Update: The nets will be appropriately cautious about calling Florida early after the fiasco eight years ago but Obama’s leading steadily by 150,000-200,000 votes with 60 percent reporting and the bellwether counties don’t look good. If that flips, we’re approaching landslide territory.

Update: Obama wins New Mexico, unsurprisingly.

Update: The polls are closed now in Nevada and Montana too, but neither will matter. CNN calls Iowa for The One.

Update: With 84 percent reporting, Obama’s now ahead in Virginia by 13,000 votes.

Update: With 91 percent reporting and a lead of more than 50,000 votes, Fox hands Virginia to The One. That gives him 220 EVs, according to my tally. California will put him over the top.

Update: More blood on the floor: The Denver Post says Colorado belongs to The One. We should have a call on California from the networks within the next five minutes, and that should wrap things up.

Update: And there’s California, and there’s the election.

I wish for Obama what he’s done to get to the White House.

drjohn on November 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM

The world will not love us anymore than they do already. Not for any length of time anyway.

Yes, President-elect Obama is about to learn that what the world’s leaders say in public about us is a whole lot different than what they expect from us in private. This is the way it works. America is big and bad, and yeah, they want us that way. They want us on that wall, they need us on that wall.

We are in for a very interesting time.

Bennett on November 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM

I’ll hold President Obama up to my standards but he is MY President. He is OUR President.

He will have to prove himself before anything … and with his past I doubt he’ll do anything I approve of.

You people that say this really don’t understand. He was put in this position to fulfill the radical left’s agenda, not to serve and protect the United States. Wake up.

darwin on November 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM

Pinch yourself

You have to pinch yourself – a Marxisant radical who all his life has been mentored by, sat at the feet of, worshipped with, befriended, endorsed the philosophy of, funded and been in turn funded, politically promoted and supported by a nexus comprising black power anti-white racists, Jew-haters, revolutionary Marxists, unrepentant former terrorists and Chicago mobsters, is on the verge of becoming President of the United States. And apparently it’s considered impolite to say so.

You know what’s tragic?

People are celebrating the death of America.

I’m sure some would mock that statement…but consider the truth of it.

That’s what this man represents. Bankrupting coal, decimating our economy, weakening us militarily. By his own writing, he’s a racist and a Marxist. By his politics, he is a dirty Chicago machine politician. By his associates, he’s a radical who wants to “transform America.”

And let’s not even begin to ponder the implications of his “Civilian National Security Force”.

So congratulations to the MSM for their brilliant campaigning for the Marxisant radical. Congratulations to the campaign of Dear Leader for their brilliant work of hiding their true plans for America with their propaganda.

God help us all.

So before I finally get off this computer and wrap up the night, I want to say a few things. I don’t expect anyone to actually read this, what with the alcohol and sobbing and such. But I’m going with it, regardless.

This loss is not McCain’s fault, or Sarah Palin’s fault. It is not the media’s fault; or the democrat’s fault. It is my fault.

It is my fault because for the last year I have come home after work and logged-on to political websites like HotAir (which I like very much).

I read the posts and sometimes make comments. Sometimes I laugh at some, and get pissed at others. I end up spending hours, much like tonight, absorbed in the opinions of others or the action of the day. Sometimes I’ve even been outraged.

But one thing I have never done, despite my intense interest in politics and, the seed of that interest which is a deep love for America, is to actually DO something about it. I have never made a phone call; I have never written a letter; I have never volunteered. In short, I have done everything I could, though spent vast amounts of emotive and logical and reasonable energy becoming informed about ‘the state of things’, yet never actually lifted a single finger to move my (our) belief forward.

I have read many, many comments tonight blaming McCain and Palin and voters of various states for voting incorrectly. The frustration is understandable and on the surface I partly agree. But then I realize how condescending my opinion is: that if only someone else had tried harder, or if someone else were as smart and informed as I, the outcome would have assuredly been different! I even lace a few curse words into my rant just to convince myself I really mean it. I don’t mean to say that none of you tried. I know you did. I mean to say that I didn’t.

So the choice remains, as it always has, in taking responsibility for my own state of affairs. The sun will indeed rise tomorrow, for God is both good and faithful. He has still given me breath to speak, even though I often fail to do so. And though I may not recognize them at the time, I will still have countless opportunites to right a wrong, voice my opinion, affect those around me.

I write all of this to say that politics and McCain and Palin and the Republican party are not, nor have they ever been, the salvation or assurance of this country. But that our great country’s salvation has always rested in the hands of her Creator, and its assurance has always been through the common voice we share in the simple, honest expression of living our everyday lives.

You have my word that I will do more than simply read opinion in the future. And you have my word that I will not fail to voice, either by word or deed, the great affection I have for this common notion of America. It won’t be fancy, and probably not very eloquent. But it will be real and honest and determined.

Today’s election is not the end; it is only the beginning.

America be forever blessed, and her people forever grateful.

God bless,
James

James OK on November 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM

I don’t expect everyone or anyone to agree, but I think that given the outcome God has finally removed his protective hand from this great nation. This has nothing to do with skin color, and everything to do with ideology, and what America will become under the new president.

In history the loss of basic morality always precedes the fall of a great empire, and I think we are at that point in America.

The democrats in power are the most liberal democrats ever in politics, and their plans for this nation are diametrically opposed to everything she stands for, and blaming Bush will only get them so far as they run make this great country a shadow of its former self.

McCain is a shining example of how far bipartisanship will get you.

TruthShallSetYouFree on November 4, 2008 at 11:31 PM

One more time, for those in a ‘conciliatory’ mood:

Obama is a leftist first, a citizen of the world and the UN second, and an American a distant third.

As for those asking God to grant him guidance: Obama’s ‘faith’ is a sham, just like Sharpton’s, Jackson’s and Wright’s. Of course I can’t prove it, but God knows.

Go read his book – he says something to the effect that some acquaintance “told me that if I was to get ahead in Chicago activism, I needed to belong to a church”. So he joined the most ‘activist’ church he could find.

Why don’t you pray for God to save Obama’s soul: if your prayers are answered Obama will appear before the country in a few months time, admitting that everything the right said about him was true, that he isn’t worthy of the office, and that he’s in over his head. Of course then you’d end up with Biden…

I’ve always thought global warming was the biggest scam perpetrated on the world since communism. The Obama campaign is a bigger scam still, and of course it’s intimately connected with the other two.

I’m praying too: that some nuclear bomb of a scandal will bring Obama down, and soon.

EnglishMike on November 4, 2008 at 11:31 PM

I have to admit, it’s nice to see a black dude reach the top. But did it have to be this black dude??

Condolences to you all. Roe v Wade is in place for at least another 50 years, your taxes are going up, your energy prices are going to balloon, and you can expect your political speech to start getting monitored and prosecuted. On the plus side you may get free health care…(I mean, free discounting the aforementioned taxes…)

Also there is a good chance Iran will now press full steam ahead on the nukes. I give it 12 years before one goes off in a major US city. 8 years before one goes off in Israel.

Gaunilon on November 4, 2008 at 11:18 PM

I know. Some of us thought color blind meant color blind, not blind as a bat about reality. I wish he was a moderate Democrat. I can understand moderates of both parties. But Obama is so far LEFT! Why couldn’t all that political talent have shown itself in a moderate man with an honest love of America and our traditions of self-reliance and individualism? Why oh why does Obama have to be a COMMUNIST? And a stupid deceptive one at that.

I want to celebrate for African Americans too! Why couldn’t we get a black man with decent politics? Why this petty, lying, corrupt, Chicago politician as the first Black President?

I pray he governs better than his past suggests he will.

Ed and Allah: I can’t fathom what happened tonight. The middle 20% of the country voluntarily signed up for this program?

Rather endlessly dissecting which minute demographic group went with which candidate, I suggest that you identify a laundry list of important issues and weigh in on where conservatives reasonably should be on each. And then, to the extent possible, I’d welcome your assessment of how any GOPers stand on these issues.

I still can’t believe that the country elected the functional equivalent of an American Idol winner to president. That said, I’m fed up with supporting mediocre candidates for president and other offices; the GOP needs to begin running stars. To that end, it would help if you identified and evaluated the returning Congressional leaders and governors who may be worth supporting in the next few years and beyond.

tlynch001 on November 4, 2008 at 11:32 PM

I for one will fight the new piece-of-sh!t overlords.

And they can shove their list.

FiveWays on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

I don’t expect everyone or anyone to agree, but I think that given the outcome God has finally removed his protective hand from this great nation.
haikusrock on November 4, 2008 at 11:30 PM

Well I for one agree completely.

LegendHasIt on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

Ed should reconsider his line of work. His predictions weren’t even close.

muyoso on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

Unbelievable, absolutely positively unbelievable.

cdn.infidel on November 4, 2008 at 11:25 PM

Better start building up your military. The Western world just lost its defender.

Good lord, Major Garret! PLEASE!

SouthernGent on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

Out of Carter came Reagan. Who will be the next great conservative leader?

the_stoics on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

Terrye at 11:25 PM-

Au contraire.

McCain disarmed himself rather than rip Obama a new one with the toxic truths easily available (Wright, Rezko, Pfleger, Ayers, ad nauseam).

He played a gentleman’s game with a machiavellian slimebag.

A fool.

profitsbeard on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

the …. next …. four …. years…… the view.

wise_man on November 4, 2008 at 11:32 PM

Four Years of no TV. Holy Forking Hell.

*retches*

Grue in the Attic on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

I intend to give Dear Leader Obama all the respect and courtesy that the Left has given George W. Bush for the last eight years. F’him.

Realist on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

F*ck you independents. F*ck you moderates.
Appealing to you libtards has been the ruin of the GOP.
Now get the hell out. And stay the hell out!

FiveWays on November 4, 2008 at 11:32 PM

Dang right! This party needs an enema!

My wife is pregnant too. The only consolation is that I was born under Carter…

James on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

What you’re doing is like a parent who buys his kids a new puppy to replace the old one who died. It’s a little too soon.

Esthier on November 4, 2008 at 11:31 PM

Yeah, it’s a little too soon but I can hope.

terryannonline on November 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

Does this mean we can finally kill off Affirmative Action?

drjohn on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

And start paying slave reparations.

FiveWays:

That is not true. If Reagan had not been able to appeal to all sorts of people he could not have been so successful. The thing is to know how to make conservatism appeal to more people, or seem less threatening. In scary economic times that is even more difficult to do.

Terrye on November 4, 2008 at 11:35 PM

I think we just hit 41 in the Senate.

Where are you seeing this?

AnotherOpinion on November 4, 2008 at 11:35 PM

This is not the America I thought I knew….

Sorry, Terrye. It’s time to clean house.

Palin/Jindal ‘12.

jgapinoy on November 4, 2008 at 11:35 PM

Don’t you dare blame Sarah for this defeat. She got McCain this far. It’s nobody’s fault. The battleground states were close. It just didn’t go McCain’s way. He wasn’t blown out; he just lost. Of course, we all lost too.

technopeasant on November 4, 2008 at 11:35 PM

You’re a great man, John McCain.

Yes he is.

So far you have blamed Bush and McCain, wrong. They got out there in front of the country and put their selves on the line.

I don’t blame McCain. Not evan a minute. But I do blame Bush and his inept second term.
I keep on wondering. Is there really a God? Why all the paryers didn’t help McCain? How its possible? How we could belive the so called angry Hillary’s supporters?
Something died in me tonight. It dies the fiath in american people, in God. There is no God if it lets happend something like this and that an empty suit can be elected instead of a genuine hero.I do blame Bush, I blame the Clintons.

clemycali on November 4, 2008 at 11:35 PM

“You’re a great man, John McCain.

Enjoy the rest of your life.”

While we put up with the liberal fascists for the forseeable future. Stupid, stupid old man.

It’s also how revolutions are born.

I don’t expect everyone or anyone to agree, but I think that given the outcome God has finally removed his protective hand from this great nation.

Give me a break, if anything that happened when George W. was elected President.

bayam on November 4, 2008 at 11:35 PM

That was a gracious, honoerable, presidential man. I am proud to have voted for him. But it was the raw emotion on Sarah’s face that killed me and caused tears to stream down my face.

I cannot return to the democratic party. I will be changing my affiliation to independent and working for republicans for the time being. My ultimate goal to support Sarah Palin as the first female president in 2012.

I believe she wanted it more than he did and that she fought harder than he did. Nevertheless, I am sad tonight. Tomorrow I start working for 2010 and 2012.

Sporty1946 on November 4, 2008 at 11:35 PM

Delegitimizing Bush was a winning strategy, delegitimizing Obama will be an equally winning strategy.
