Round three: CO, NM; Update: Fox calls Ohio for Obama; Update: CNN calls Iowa for Obama; Update: Fox calls Virginia for Obama; Update: Denver Post calls Colorado for Obama; Update: NBC calls the election for Obama

At this point I’d be shocked if either of them mattered, but the polls have closed so here’s a new thread for results.

As I’m writing that, CNN calls Minnesota and Michigan for The One.

Update: Turns out my prediction was too conservative: I had Ohio going for McCain. Fox calls it for The One. And with that, the hour of reckoning is at hand.

Update: I said in this post over the weekend that under no circumstances could Maverick lose more than one among Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Unless the network projections are drastically wrong, he’s already lost two. According to MSNBC, with both PA and OH in the ledger, Obama has 195 EVs with 55 still to come from California. Florida would put him over the top.

Update: Ohio’s the first red state from 2004 to flip, incidentally, and the only one Obama needs thanks to its high EV number. He can win the election now simply by holding Kerry’s states.

Update: The nets will be appropriately cautious about calling Florida early after the fiasco eight years ago but Obama’s leading steadily by 150,000-200,000 votes with 60 percent reporting and the bellwether counties don’t look good. If that flips, we’re approaching landslide territory.

Update: Obama wins New Mexico, unsurprisingly.

Update: The polls are closed now in Nevada and Montana too, but neither will matter. CNN calls Iowa for The One.

Update: With 84 percent reporting, Obama’s now ahead in Virginia by 13,000 votes.

Update: With 91 percent reporting and a lead of more than 50,000 votes, Fox hands Virginia to The One. That gives him 220 EVs, according to my tally. California will put him over the top.

Update: More blood on the floor: The Denver Post says Colorado belongs to The One. We should have a call on California from the networks within the next five minutes, and that should wrap things up.

Update: And there’s California, and there’s the election.

For those of you saying that Obama is not your President, here’s a thought, why don’t you take your un-American asses someplace else?

phatman on November 4, 2008 at 11:10 PM

Because you fools just made an un-American marxist the president elect of the last great hope for liberty in this world gone mad and there is NOWHERE ELSE TO GO!

America created capitalism. The only fair, rational and successful system in history. Now we’ve seen it elect fools who will destroy it.

I don’t pity anyone who betrayed our founding fathers and everything this republican was built upon by voting for Obama and the liberal hordes today, but I must say I feel truly sorry for the millions of people who fled to this country as refugees from failed collectivist states.

The rest of us really let them down today.

Drink heartily and start counting the days until Great Society 2 is over.

Obama is not giving us the New Deal 2, but Great Society 2.

Unfortunately it took until 1982 before the Great Society had sufficiently been curtailed. Howsoever, BHO, like LBJ, will only be in power for four years.

It’s really sad that so many people here are trashing McCain. He ran a great race and is a great American. Conservatives still have lots to live for. Democracy is all about changing the government in a peaceful and civil way. The pendulum will swing the other way again and Conservatives can go back to the people, learn and listen, and come back stronger for the country. We need both sides.

HornetSting on November 4, 2008 at 11:23 PM

Soon, like Alcibiades, Marius, and other demagogues throughout history, Barack Obama will mount the stage and wave to his cheering throngs. The American people have made their choice and now we will all have to live with it. There is a saying that having is not as good as wanting and I fear that those who voted for Obama will soon find that out to their regret. I’m far closer to the grave than I am the cradle, and, for once, I am thankful for that fact. God willing, I’ll make it to the 2010 and 2012 elections and I plan to do my part to try to help clean up the mess that Obama and his followers will leave in their wake. Ayaan Hirsi Ali once said something that has always stuck in my mind. She was doing an interview with an especially smug and obnoxious Canadian journalist, and she’d finally had enough of his sneering and his smug attitude and told him something to the effect of: “It is easy for you to spit on freedom because that is all you have ever known, but those of us who were not born free realize just how precious a gift freedom is.” God does not like it when his gifts are taken for granted and freedom is one of the most precious gifts that God can bestow. Perhaps God is preparing to teach all of us a lesson in gratitude and humility—perhaps we need one. We have been blessed with decades of relative peace and prosperity. The last war fought on American soil ended in the 19th century. Since World War II, we have never really known hard times or want. I don’t know if that’s going to change or not, but I do promise this, I am going to do my part to help protect our freedoms and liberty as we begin our time in the Wilderness. We will reemerge—stronger, better, and more resilient than ever. Always remember: Faith Manages.

Feel free to whine about the things people say here, but booing Obama is the very list of what any political group would do to the opposing party in this specific scenario, so you might want to save your outrage for something that matters.

It ended on 9/24 when McCain suspended his campaign, refused to name names and let republicans get blamed for the financial meltdown. By not pinning it where it belonged, on democrats, he f**ked himself and he f**ked the country.

In almost fifty years of following politics in Canada and the U.S. never, never, ever would I have expected the greatest country in the world to elect an absolute fraud and unknown like BHO for a president. Voter fraud on a massive scale, voter intimidation by black thugs being tolerated. Simply, an election stolen by racist, corrupt and radical thugs. If BHO’s past associations are any indication of his future intent, America’s golden days are truly behind her.

CanadianGuy on November 4, 2008 at 11:25 PM

He has said these are top priorities him, so brace yourself. He’ll probably hold off on changing the tax code and universal health care until he gets better situated to pitch them.

Daemonocracy on November 4, 2008 at 10:57 PM

He’ll never be better situated than he is now. The next two years will be “transformational” indeed. From a purely tactical standpoint, I always thought the conservative / libertarian cause was at a profound disadvantage against collectivism, because conservatism has no “endgame.” There would never come a moment in which the cause of free markets and limited government “wins.” It would always be a never-ending battle, merely one election away from being reversed.

Socialism, on the other hand, has endgames. Once a sufficient percentage of the electorate has massed on the receiving end, and the middle class has been made dependent on an entitlement, socialism is locked in until the system crashes completely. I always thought the socialist endgame would begin with nationalized health care, but now I think it’s more likely to come when the Democrats implement their plans to seize the 401k plans and turn them into government-controlled bonds. There’s a reason they are chomping at the bit to do this – it would eliminate the middle American investor class at a stroke, and turn them into wards of the state who can be kept in line with threats that political opponents want to “take away their retirement funds,” much the way elderly voters are controlled with Social Security scare tactics.

Thus ends the Last Election, the last true choice for president the American electorate will make in our lifetimes. From here on out, the choice will be between different flavors of socialist, not between liberals and conservatives. The mechanisms used to win this election will still be in place next time, only more so – if you liked ACORN this time out, wait until they’re flush with millions more tax dollars in funding. If you thought the media bias was unbelievable this time, wait until their opponents have been Fairness Doctrined out of existence. Tonight was not an ugly setback for Republicans; it was a permanent realignment, one that has been brewing for a long time now.

The fatal mistakes of the GOP were encapsulated in John McCain: the weakness against illegal immigration, which has introduced a Democratic serf population that can effectively control states like Florida, as we’ve seen tonight. The vacillating weakness concerning Democrats, who banked millions of votes because McCain would rather lose honorably than use names like Jeremiah Wright and Barney Frank. The childlike faith that the media will somehow begin noticing all the things they haven’t been reporting fairly on, even after said media has been burying damaging videotapes in sealed vaults, and floating rumors about the parentage of the Palin children. The ridiculous notion that gestures of respect toward liberal mythology like “global warming” and “Wall Street fat cats” will somehow earn respect from left-leaning swing voters. The insane determination to offer strict fair play and meticulous observance of rules the other side violates with cheerful abandon – did McCain’s beloved campaign-finance rules slow down those Obama donations from A. Hitler and Qwerty Uiop, even a tiny bit?

Perhaps a new, tougher Republican party will coalesce around a more charismatic and capable standard-bearer, but it won’t make much difference. The people who just assumed absolute, total power over the United States know exactly what to do with it, and it will be two years before anyone can even slow them down. The result will crash, spectacularly, in a decade or two, but nothing will change until then.

You can certainly lay blame at the feet of McCain for a weak campaign, or Bush for setting the stage through his bizarre absentee “leadership” over the last four years, but in the end, the problem is with the electorate. Palin/Jindal 2012 will not be able to correct that problem. America failed itself tonight.

Oh, I blame Bush a lot. His second term was the pits, as he lurched left all over the place.

Why don’t you blame Cheney that found himself endorsing McCain when he was suppose to be silent?

Cheney I consider blameless in this mess. Cheney has been the voice of reason. I never really voted for Bush, but for Cheney.

Texyank on November 4, 2008 at 11:26 PM

McCain supporters booing Obama’s name.

How classy.

Dave Rywall on November 4, 2008 at 11:19 PM

And just what do you think the reaction from Obama’s followers if “The shoe were on the other foot” would be now?

I think all thinking Americans know the answer to that.

MB4 on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

I think we just hit 41 in the Senate.

WisCon on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Who’s up for starting R.ACORN? If they can do and nothing happens, so can we. Come on, we only have 2 years to rig the next election!

Sporty1946 on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Sorry, McCain, I will not support Obama or his terrorists buddies. F that.

SouthernGent on November 4, 2008 at 11:23 PM

My last word on Hot Air. You’re smarter than I thought. I apologize.

Christoph on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Sorry about the outburst, yet not sorry. Capitalism is the ONE thing I care about, and you “liberal” bastards took it away from me.

Achilles on November 4, 2008 at 11:26 PM

Never, EVER, ever apologize for your principles. Surrender those and you have nothing left, my friend.

The only thing that matters is nominating conservatives who appeal to independents. No Santorums, no George Allens.

Speedwagon82 on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

I’ll hold President Obama up to my standards but he is MY President. He is OUR President.

joest73 on November 4, 2008 at 11:26 PM

F*ck that! Obama is no President to me.

FiveWays on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

I can’t believe Palin and her beautiful family were dragged through all that shit for nothing. I really do hate the media.

DITTO. Kick ass in 2012, ‘Cuda!

Pasalubong on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

They’re booing McCain and chanting Sarah. Awesome. Get the hint McCain and get off the fucking stage.

CanadianGuy on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

I will miss Sarah.

Ozark_sky on November 4, 2008 at 11:26 PM

Dittos and GW.

Texyank on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

McCain will play a role in the Obama administration. I have no doubt at this point. Ready to crossover to Ron Paul at this point.

ClassicCon on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Ok. Seriously. Does anyone REALLY believe that it was PALIN who lost this election?

I mean, come on. She was attacked because she was so effective. They piled more vile on her than they even did to McCain.

stupid anchor-people blaming it all on Palin. ARG.

Jewels on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Israel is going to have to destroy Iran before January 20. And don’t think for one minute that they won’t.

califcon on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

This is my country still and I’m not giving up on her. I wish Obama all the best though my faith in him being what’s best for this country remains low at best.

Yakko77 on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

The irony is that McCain will probably “reach across the aisle” to help the Senate become filibuster proof. God help us all.

SouthernGent on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

I’m glad that I’m drunk. Obama IS NOT MY PRESIDENT. I DON’T HAVE A PRESIDENT. I HOPE THAT OBAMA CAUSES A TERRORIST ATTACK IN NY OR CA OR SOMETHING.

Illinidiva on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Does this mean we can finally kill off Affirmative Action?

drjohn on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

My last word on Hot Air. You’re smarter than I thought. I apologize.

Christoph on November 4, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Good bye.

HornetSting on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Unbelievable, absolutely positively unbelievable.

cdn.infidel on November 4, 2008 at 11:25 PM

Thanks. We need Canadians to come along and tell us how stupid we are. We don’t feel crappy enough.

capitalist piglet on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Obama will never ever be my president – resist the Marxist oppressor

bill30097 on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Esthier on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

unseesn:

So far you have blamed Bush and McCain, wrong. They got out there in front of the country and put their selves on the line.

It was the rest of us who blew it.

Terrye on November 4, 2008 at 11:28 PM

McCain bears the burden. He helped harm this nation in his politics, policy, and inthe election.

Tim Burton on November 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM

We survived the Civil War, we’ll get through this too.

Tony737 on November 4, 2008 at 11:29 PM

where was this personal McCain in the campaign
oh he saved that for SNL

I suggest you all get right with your maker, read the Book of Revelation and study it well.

Obambi will put America in a position to be run over

Israel will defend itself and bambi will bend over backwards with his muslim friends

mark joe’s words

and if it doesn’t happen that quickly, Obambi will soon wear thin with the handout mentality crowd when they realize that obambi doesn’t care about them, just his own ego

he bought this election with the msm in his pocket

now he actually has to govern

God help us all!!!!!
