At this point I’d be shocked if either of them mattered, but the polls have closed so here’s a new thread for results.

As I’m writing that, CNN calls Minnesota and Michigan for The One.

Update: Turns out my prediction was too conservative: I had Ohio going for McCain. Fox calls it for The One. And with that, the hour of reckoning is at hand.

Update: I said in this post over the weekend that under no circumstances could Maverick lose more than one among Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Unless the network projections are drastically wrong, he’s already lost two. According to MSNBC, with both PA and OH in the ledger, Obama has 195 EVs with 55 still to come from California. Florida would put him over the top.

Update: Ohio’s the first red state from 2004 to flip, incidentally, and the only one Obama needs thanks to its high EV number. He can win the election now simply by holding Kerry’s states.

Update: The nets will be appropriately cautious about calling Florida early after the fiasco eight years ago but Obama’s leading steadily by 150,000-200,000 votes with 60 percent reporting and the bellwether counties don’t look good. If that flips, we’re approaching landslide territory.

Update: Obama wins New Mexico, unsurprisingly.

Update: The polls are closed now in Nevada and Montana too, but neither will matter. CNN calls Iowa for The One.

Update: With 84 percent reporting, Obama’s now ahead in Virginia by 13,000 votes.

Update: With 91 percent reporting and a lead of more than 50,000 votes, Fox hands Virginia to The One. That gives him 220 EVs, according to my tally. California will put him over the top.

Update: More blood on the floor: The Denver Post says Colorado belongs to The One. We should have a call on California from the networks within the next five minutes, and that should wrap things up.

Update: And there’s California, and there’s the election.

That would should always have been obvious. Black men even got to vote before white women.

I don’t think there was ever much of a contest. Women are considered the weaker sex who along with children should be saved. In most ways, I’m not even convinced that’s a bad thing, but that same mentality also leads people to automatically prefer a man as a leader.

We don’t generally believe in differences based on race, but we certainly accept differences by gender.

A great man in John McCain has gone down tonight to a fraud. Only a matter of time before Obama tries to ram his radical left agenda through, starting with the Free Choice act (all restrictions on abortion, including partial birth lifted), repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (originally signed by Clinton), Card Check for unions (thug intimidation in our unions, will hurt small business) and rigid withdrawl from Iraw (no matter how fragile it is).

He has said these are top priorities him, so brace yourself. He’ll probably hold off on changing the tax code and universal health care until he gets better situated to pitch them. He will be salivating at the chance to tip the scale of the Supreme court and enforce an “economic bill of rights” which makes wealth redistribution a constitutional right. If he really wants to push this, he may try to stack the court with like minded judges as FDR tried.

some people think he may try to govern from the center, I don’t see it. He may have mislead the public on who he really is, but he really does want change. major change. and his time is now to institute that change.

McCain could have ran a better campaign, but I’m going to jump on him too much. A big reason why he lost is because Republicans lost their way and dug their own grave. mismanaging the war in Iraq, deficit spending, huge government expansion, katrina and lobbying scandal was just too much for most.

the conservatives need a voice, a Reagan or Gingrich to speak up for their values. Obama ran as a centrist, he ran on tax cuts (which are really tax subsidies). this is still a center right nation and it is mostly the moderate and liberal RINOs who are getting booted from office.

I was really disappointed with the GOP campaign. Nothing was on the ground here in PA. I gave my name to help out and was never contacted.

The ads were horrible. They never drove home the lies on the part of BO. Why wasn’t there an ad saying, “You’ve probably seem a lot of ads by my opponent. He has a lot of money to spend after reneging on his promise to support a publicly funded campaign like I did. It easy to run ads when you raise and spend half a billion dollars, much of it on the internet with a system deliberately set so that it masks illegal contributions. Seems like the anything goes style of politics we expect these days. Vote for him and you can Hope that will Change.

I on the other hand sponsored and passed campaign finance reform bills, I worked to end earmarks and I tried to stop Sen. Obama and the other democrats in Congress from creating the economic problems we have seen with Fannie Mae, Freedie Mac and much of Wall St.

I am proud to be an American, and not for the first time in my life.

Now, Black America just might understand something about this country that they have been blind to.

This is not a racist country. It is THE GREATEST COUNTRY in the world.

In a short time, after the party is over, Black conservatives are going to be coming out of the woodwork. They will not want to be associated with the demise of what it is that makes this country great.

And we will finally see a country where the political argument will be about ideology.

The race game is done.

The time is ripe for Black conservatives, many of whom have yet to discover that they are conservative, to come home to the Right, take leadership positions in larger numbers, and help put this country back on its feet again.

Why do people keep assuming there is going to be a 2012 fair election?

Consider how Obama and the Democrats acted towards Hillary Clinton with intimidation and out of state bused voters during the caucus’. This was when they were out of power and only in the primary! Consider ACORN and the rampant fraud being carried out openly with Democratic operatives (Brunner, etc) and unions helping any way they could. Do you really believe that these same people will suddenly decide that such tactics are beneath them when they have the reigns of power? They will make certain in all key states that they will win every elections that comes. Why do we assume that these things can happen in far off lands but never here? Why can’t they happen here? Too many people have no grasp of history and the destruction of the educational system is no mistake! The people graduating from school, college, and university lack the background and knowledge to make rational judgements and it was intended that way.

The guy looking to be the next POTUS pal’s around with terrorists, thugs, crooks, admirers of Charles Manson, and hard line Socialists. What reason is there to believe that this guy will somehow mellow in the job? He sought these people out by his own choice. That should tell you all you need to know about the man!

Election 2008’s big losers, part one:

1) Hillary Clinton — unless Obama is not the petty egotist he seems and he gives her a plum assignment (SCOTUS?).

2) The Catholic Church — cannot sell the culture of life even to its millions of members.

3) Moderate-to-liberal Republicans — finally, the GOP will rediscover its inner conservative.

4) The judiciary — not only will Obama get to stack the bench with liberal activists, he gets to fill Bush vacancies that the Democrats blocked.

5) Conservative talk radio — satellite radio, here we come.

6) Israel, Iraq, Georgia, Pakistan, Colombia.

I am afraid they are. They gave us Pelosi and Reid and after seeing how useless they were they put them back in charge with a bigger majority. Time to face the facts, this is not going to be fixed by simply running a better campaign. The liberals have been forming the electorate for decades while conservatives sat idle praising “their great faith in the American people”. We are just seeing the logical results of that. We have to work at being a great people, we cannot take it for granted.

That bailout was not a Bush Republican bailout, it was a federal rescue bill and it would have happened no matter who the president was. Governments all over the world were passing bills like that.
