Round three: CO, NM; Update: Fox calls Ohio for Obama; Update: CNN calls Iowa for Obama; Update: Fox calls Virginia for Obama; Update: Denver Post calls Colorado for Obama; Update: NBC calls the election for Obama

At this point I’d be shocked if either of them mattered, but the polls have closed so here’s a new thread for results.
As I’m writing that, CNN calls Minnesota and Michigan for The One.
Update: Turns out my prediction was too conservative: I had Ohio going for McCain. Fox calls it for The One. And with that, the hour of reckoning is at hand.
Update: I said in this post over the weekend that under no circumstances could Maverick lose more than one among Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Unless the network projections are drastically wrong, he’s already lost two. According to MSNBC, with both PA and OH in the ledger, Obama has 195 EVs with 55 still to come from California. Florida would put him over the top.
Update: Ohio’s the first red state from 2004 to flip, incidentally, and the only one Obama needs thanks to its high EV number. He can win the election now simply by holding Kerry’s states.
Update: The nets will be appropriately cautious about calling Florida early after the fiasco eight years ago but Obama’s leading steadily by 150,000-200,000 votes with 60 percent reporting and the bellwether counties don’t look good. If that flips, we’re approaching landslide territory.
Update: Obama wins New Mexico, unsurprisingly.
Update: The polls are closed now in Nevada and Montana too, but neither will matter. CNN calls Iowa for The One.
Update: With 84 percent reporting, Obama’s now ahead in Virginia by 13,000 votes.
Update: With 91 percent reporting and a lead of more than 50,000 votes, Fox hands Virginia to The One. That gives him 220 EVs, according to my tally. California will put him over the top.
Update: More blood on the floor: The Denver Post says Colorado belongs to The One. We should have a call on California from the networks within the next five minutes, and that should wrap things up.
Update: And there’s California, and there’s the election.

Right now my biggest fear is for the men and women of America and her allies fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Including my brother, who’s with the Brits in Afghanistan.
Ultimately, they all – American, Brits, Poles, whatever – are under the command of Petraeus, who’s an amazing leader.
But Petraeus will know be taking his orders from a lying, two-faced, narcissistic piece of crap who will ALWAYS do what makes him look good, and what’s popular, rather than what is right.
This guy won’t just be looking at the polls in the US – he’ll be looking at the polls at the UN, in France, in Britain, and he’ll act accordingly.
God help us all.

I haven’t been able to sneeze for the past few weeks without one cheerleader or another declaring every poll as in the tank for Obama and insisting that McCain would win by major margins. One even said he’d take over 40 states. It’s ridiculous.

Indeed. The cancer has been quietly metastasizing for decades, unnoticed by most. Tonight, the tumor erupted to the surface and became obvious. This is far, far worse than any Democrat-dominated government up until now. This is the triumph of an insidious movement that has been working to undermine the American way of life for many, many years. I read a post at HuffPo recently in which the writer, an out-of-the-closet avowed socialist, was gnashing his teeth about how Reagan set them back 20 years in their efforts, but Obama was going to gain it all back and then some. This is some scary, scary $hit going on, make no mistake. This is a war for our very survival, and most of us don’t even realize we’re under attack.

Two things to do right away:
1) Insist loudly that Patrick Fitzgerald stay on the case in Chicago. Obama has promised that Fitzgerald will, but I’m sure he’ll try to axe him or move him out of Chicago. It’s absolutely crucial that Fitzgerald stay on the case, because it does two things: it keeps the Chicago corruption from following Obama to Washington — he can’t bring in his bobos if Fitzgerald is putting them in prison; and it also educates people who refused to pay attention about who Obama really is. Since Fitzgerald prosecuted Scooter Libby, it will be hard to portray him as a Republican hack or a Ken Starr, although I’m certain the D’s will try.
2) We need Harry and Louise type ads on two issues — card check and the Fairness Doctrine. Business didn’t get behind McCain the way they should have and now they’re looking at the consequences of that. They’d better pony up the money to keep the ads going 24/7. There was minimal support for card check among the voters. The voters need to be reminded that Obama and his congressional allies are foursquare for this. And the Fairness Doctrine must be stopped. Either free speech means something or it doesn’t. And since John McCain appears to have been hoist on his own petard in re McCain/Feingold, maybe now those people in our party who are squishy about these things will understand that you can’t let the censors come. Chuck Schumer is already poised to strike.

Unless they move quickly to destroy campaign finance laws (which would have prevented his ascension this time if we took the threat seriously and enforced them), shut down talk radio, police the blogosphere and keep their clamps on the mainstream media, there’s no way in hell this liberal supermajority will last four years. Depending on just how massively Obama/Pelosi/Reid manages to screw up off the bat, we might see Congress swing back in 2010. Especially with the impossible expectations they’ve built up for themselves.
By the time 2012 rolls along, I’m sure Obama will be defeated by a solidly conservative Republican ticket. Hopefully after this and ‘06, the GOP has learned its lesson about what happens when Republicans act like Democrats. We need to be fiscally responsible and we need to stick to our principles.
With that said, the window of opportunity may be a pretty small one. The Democrats have demographics on their side – and they’ll probably throw the borders wide open in order to grow their bloc of dependents and spread it to as many formerly safely red states as possible. They’ll also attempt to fundamentally handicap industry and break small business – hoping to depress the middle class, raise unemployment rates and dependence on big government assistance.
We’ll need to work hard at the local and state levels to fight this.
Unfortunately, I think our side will benefit politically when liberal weakness invites our enemies to hit us and our allies with sobering strikes. I only hope these instances, and th ensuing war(s) will not be too destructive.

Well, if I misunderstood your reasoning I apologize. I don’t deny that she’s an extremely appealing woman with a good rapport with certain people but the VP slot was too much too soon IMO. The media was ready to characterize her as ignorant and she made it easy for them. In the process I think she turned off a lot of potential McCain voters because there was a genuine concern about her competency. Go back and watch that Gingrich clip from earlier today. There’s a reason the media has never accused him of being stupid.

I can’t keep up with all the posts here.
But look – it’s not surprising about people actually lining up to be insulted (in Pennsylvania, etc.)
I have two kids, both in college, and they spent their entire schooling being told by their teachers and each other how “f’ed up” the U.S. is, entirely, and without any redeeming quality whatsoever.
They have a little bit of disbelief, because I’ve spent years telling them otherwise. But basically, all the young people think we suck and deserve whatever we get.
In addition, it’s always the OTHER guy who is the racist, redneck, etc., so that’s going on, too.
But we’ve got a whole country filled with people who think we are bad and damaging to the world.
