Round one: IN, VA, OH, NC
posted at 6:52 pm on November 4, 2008 by Allahpundit
Rather than have one unwieldy mega-thread for results, I’m going to break it up hour by hour. That’s truer to the “elimination round” nature of the early states that I talked about here, anyway.
Indiana and Virginia close at 7 p.m., Ohio and North Carolina follow half an hour later. McCain needs three at a bare minimum. Anything less, and you can start drinking. Hard liquor if you got it.
Exit quotation for meditation purposes while we wait: “Pal around together? What does that mean? Share a milkshake with two straws?”
Update: Lefty site MyDD claims to have gruesome swing-state exit poll data from inside sources. If they’re right, Obama wins Ohio by nine and Virginia by 10, which should make for reasonably early calls of both states. If those calls don’t come within the hour, it’s safe to say their data’s crap.
Update: I didn’t include Georgia in the states to watch because I figured it’d be safely red, The One’s GOTV efforts there notwithstanding. The longer it takes to call that, the more ominous it is.
Update: NBC’s predicting the Dems will pick up 12 House seats. Believe it or not, there were people on our side who expected the GOP to gain.
Update: Taegan Goddard says he has the exit poll data but doesn’t quite believe it, apparently because the margins are so lopsided. That jibes with MyDD’s data.
Update: For what it’s worth, the early indicators in Indiana aren’t good.
Update: NBC’s showing a huge lead for McCain among whites in Virginia, which surprises me. 18 points, I think.
Update: I spoke too soon: Hotline has Virginia exit poll data and says Obama leads among men by six and women by 12, which means his overall lead is around 10 points — exactly what MyDD had. Either those are the official exit polls or else someone’s circulating a bill of goods to a lot of leftish online outlets.
Update: Forgot to post an interactive map for you to follow results with. I’m using CNN’s and Politico’s.
Update (Ed): Once again, I’d suggest that exit polling isn’t going to get a good look at this. Right now (6:39 pm), McCain’s up in Indiana with 19% of the precincts reporting by three points. Not great, but not bad, either, although Gary comes in late. After 2004, I’m waiting for actual votes rather than follow the exit polls.
Update: CNN’s map has Obama within a point with 25 percent reporting.

I saw that on the Fox map, but the polls here don’t close for 6 minutes….maybe they’re projecting?

VA McCain 53-46 2per cent
IN McCain 51-48 11 per cent in
FL McCain 54-46 less than 1 per cent
so far so good.

Kentucky’s counties reporting thus far are eastern part of the state. When the central part of the state comes in we’ll see how McConnell is REALLY gonna do. If it continues this close he’ll go down hard.

I went to the polls in Arizona today, actually hrere was only three other voters in the polling office. I opted for the table vs booth because I had to get out my proposition cheat sheet. On exiting I noticed a rather obvious exit poll type person, You know clipboard and all. As I exited bymyself she ignored me. Then I realized I forgot my cheat sheet that my wife wanted. Again I went in and out alone and was ignored. I even had my white I VOTED TODAY sticker on my Blue shirt. I got in the car and made a cell call to my wife that the polls were not packed like reported on the news and I watched the exit poll lady stop the next three people coming out and even asked one to wait while she wrapped up the person in front. I’m a white person and the three she stopped were of color (Two African Americans and a Hispanic.) I thought to myself that was weird. Then I realized I was wearing both a veteran hat and shirt. Hat was blue and yellow about my Naval Submarine squadron and shirt had Naval Force Pacific and a squadron logo. On my way out in my car I stopped and asked her about the turnout today with my I VOTED TODAY sticker in plain view. Nothing NADA, zip, My opinion is not necessary because I am part of the military machine? 4 chances to ask me and mailed everyone else after me. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
From Ace Of Spades site. The exit polls are being manipulated. We will know later what the truth is, but trusting the media on this is foolish.

I purposely kept only one beer in the house. If Obama wins I’ll be out in the back yard water boarding myself. If McCain wins, I’ll just be sitting here with a big grin on my face. Either way, there will be no room for beer.
McCain has a good lead started in FL but only 1% in.
Good leads in IN and KY with 12-14% in.

Indiana counties are slowly becoming more pro-McCain. Several counties have flipped (Obama–>McCain) in the past half hour. The votes that were counted earlier were mroe pro-Obama than the ones which are being counted later, it seems.
