Congratulations, Obama

One of the last things Dean Barnett said to me was that, as best he could tell, Barack Obama is “a good guy and a decent man.” I don’t think he’d mind me telling you that, especially under the circumstances. It’s a testament to his generosity of spirit that even in the heat of a campaign, with every reason to think the worst of his opponent, Dean couldn’t help but give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s Barnett all over, and that’s what made him an indispensable man whom we’ve been forced, horrendously, to dispense with.

I offer that as comfort to those of you who have no faith in The One but who do have faith in, and abiding affection for, DB. My guess is he’d have handled the news tonight with the same magnanimity that distinguished all of his writing. So in that spirit, congratulations to Barry O on a race superbly run and to our country for not having let the wrong reasons deter it from making the wrong choice. I’ll never be a fan, but I swear I’ll never take a nutroots posture either in relishing his failures because it helps my party. Like it or not, he’s my president. As a great man once said, country first.

We can’t blame even Acorn for this lopsided victory, I wish it was so. There are voters, younger than I(38) that don’t know how bad a president Jimmy Carter was, but I think they will soon find out. Remember the famous words- Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
George Santayana (1863-1952) I just hate to go through it with them again.

In the words of the immortal civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. “we are free at last.”

In the words of the immortal cartoon character Fry “We’re boned.”

This guy couldn’t even wait until his celebratory appearance was over to lie. I mean, seriously, WHAT THE HECK does he mean by saying we’re in the worst financial crisis in a century? Either he’s being completely and totally dishonest or he doesn’t know when the Great Depression took place. Since he should be intelligent enough to know, and we all know he broke his promise to stay off public financing, I’ll go with the former.

The only good things I can see coming out of his presidency are Palin being set up for a nice comeback in 2012; even less so affirmative action ending because I still have my doubts on that.

Perusing acquaintances’ tweets and other online communications, I’m heartsick about how thoroughly fooled most of them are. They are positively giddy with the certainty of a brighter future under Obama. They really and truly think he will fix everything, pretty much instantly, and the world will love us, and no one will ever go without health care again, and we will never get involved in an “unnecessary war” again, and they will get lots of free stuff, and that higher taxes will be worth it for all this wonderful pay-off for the nation and the world.

Oh, yeah, and they are so very pleased about grinding their boot heels into prostrated and humiliated Republicans’ necks. They will make us pay dearly in this bright future of theirs, make no mistake.

Roger that Dale. Those lemmings where told to wave this stick in the air when Obama comes to the podium.

Once the speech is over you can just throw the stick on the ground and the sanitation engineers (from union eatshitandbarkatthemoon) will clean them up for you at the end of the day when they are on double over time.

winemkr on November 5, 2008 at 12:55 AM

Welp, I turned on Obama’s speech just in time to see him say something about it was time to go back to America’s ” founding words, ‘Yes we can’” – or something like that – or something like that, and I was thinking, what? What did he say? Since when was that America’s motto?

And the camera turned to the adoring flock who repeated, “Yes we can, yes we can” in unison.

I was immediately reminded of that old Twilight Zone episode, “On Thursday We Leave for Home,” where this group of people stranded on a world is led by James Whitmore, who often gets them to chant to raise their spirits.

Looking it up now, I see IMBD describes it this way: “A colony has barely survived on a sparse planet baked by two suns for thirty years only because of their megalomaniac leader who treats them like children. A conflict arises when a rescue ship arrives and offers them a new life back on Earth.”

I turned the channel, and saw no more of the speech.

Even if we had enough like minded people to have a snowball’s chance of splitting, which we don’t, the droids in the silk suits take such efforts very VERY seriously. Any serious secession attempt would end at best with public humiliation by the media and jail for the leaders to another Waco.

I understand the sentiment, but this is the kind of nonsense that gets conservatives labeled as looney-tunes. So please just stop it.

MadisonConservative on November 5, 2008 at 12:46 AM

You and I agree on a lot Madison, but we just elected a Gramsci Marxist to POTUS. That threatens the very blanket of freedom under which we live. The Fairness doctrine comes first…to chill free speech. Confiscatory tax policies, card check plus banning replacement workers, and skyrocketing energy prices comes next to impoverish the masses comes next to control the population. The Freedom of Choice act removes all restrictions on abortion with the sweep of a pen, thereby demoralizing and dehumanizing all those people to whom life itself is considered the most precious freedom…the hill upon which we are willing to die. How is that freedom? And he TOLD THE AMERICAN PEOPLE he would do all this, and they elected him anyway. I’m devastated.

With other elections, the POTUS wasn’t promising to kill free speech, kill the economy and kill babies! This IS different.

How will his race defend us from enemies without and within? How will his race keep our economy strong? The eff it will. We’ve elected a friggin’ terrorist-symp, a communist, an anti-Semite. A COMMUNIST!!!!! A crook, a liar, a man who has only ever run his mouth. Nothing he’s put his hands on has been successful. So what? We’re supposed to be comforted by some bullshit nod to history?

Totalitarianism doesn’t need armies. It only needs to control a couple of things – the media, and the ability to dispense privilege to some, and to withhold it from others. Of course, a weak and divided people helps. – The last, unnamed, President of the United States

Crystald on November 5, 2008 at 1:02 AM

We need put this in perspective. What happened this election was due to a lot of things. It was because of policies by the Republicans in office that betrayed the principles of this country, and the laws on the books, as much as what the Democrats did. We need to get back to basics and really take stock of what we feel the Republican Party and America are all about. Then we need to stop apologizing for it and start to educate people as to why it is the right way to do things.

The Democrats will help us greatly over the next few years. Obama will hurt the country and the economy badly if he pursues his policies. He will make Jimmy Carter look like an economic genius. If we keep it together and get organized we will once again own the Presidency and both houses of Congress in a few years. But we need to recommit to the ideals that made us successful. Not the wishy washy garbage that has been spewed for the last eight years.

Hawthorne on November 5, 2008 at 1:02 AM

McCain’s strategy relied on Obama making a mistake, which he didn’t do. No photo op in a tank or Kerryesque quotes.

Speedwagon82 on November 5, 2008 at 12:51 AM

BHO made tons of mistakes. Mistakes that would have sunk anyone else. Biden made tons of mistakes. There were so many mistakes that they started oozing through the walls.

Sickening indeed. Was I the only one on the look out for a red flag with a hammer and sickle on it?

Allah, I’m grateful to you for banning FiveWays. My cousin is a Secret Service agent and my greatest fear since he became an agent (on my 30th birthday to be exact) is that his life would be put in jeopardy because some nutbag would take a shot at the President.

But having said all that, I do not have any desire to extend congratulatory wishes to someone who is not worthy of the office at this time. Obama’s biggest achievement is winning an election against the worst candidate we have put up in my lifetime. Obama won, America lost.

I also pray that Biden will continue to be wrong, I am speaking about The One being tested in the first 6 months of his administration because I don’t want to re-live the 90’s where terrorist attacks went without a response. I was in the Army during most of the Clinton years and was disgusted at how many of our finest men and women were slain without retaliation.

I find too many conciliatory blog postings.

Can anybody find a good rant?

desertdweller

Not tonight, not from me anyway. For me it is because unlike many on the left our side has honor and integrity. The campaign is over, what has been voted is done. There is no denying the historical significance of the event whether we liked the result or not.

Tomorrow is another day. The battle is over. The war (in the party) has just begun. Tonight is Obama’s night, he has earned it. However the future is not yet written. Be assured that that I for on have an intention in some small way to affect what will be written.

We can be conciliatory. We can be gracious. But in no way does that diminish our resolve, our ideas. The greatest thing about this country is its people. We have experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and through it all we have survived and even thrived. We will do so again.

Do we have much to fear from 1 party rule in Washington? Absolutely. But tonight is their night. Tomorrow the war begins anew. The question that remains is. Will you be content to sit on the sides complaining or will be be an active participant? I know which side I will be on, and I know I will not be alone.
(Now if I can figure out line breaks in these comments)

I just can’t see the glass any more than 49% full. And the way our system works, for all it’s glory and wisdom, that means the glass is effectively empty.

Sure, tomorrow’s another day, and I’ll be sweating even more bullets over our slacking economy in trying to keep my small business afloat, hoping I can pull it off so the banks don’t claim every single thing I own. Perhaps a brief respite in the form of a rant isn’t too much to ask?

This election will turn me into an activist, or at least a diligent participant in government affairs — Country First Amen!

Nope! Don’t say it, nor anything about a “book depository” nor anything.

Nor, talk about “rebellion” or “revolution” or “civil war”.

I’m a Former Marine. I wore the Uniform and served in Iraq the first time around, and swore to Defend the Constitution of the United States.

Obama is soon to occupy the Oval Office.

He is an evil, silly, vapid, empty, hollow, undistinguished, foolish Anti-American Racist.

And 51 Million clueless idiots voted for him.

But, we will survive him!

I will NEVER accept him, for the reason I have have laid out before:

he hates this country
he hates our Flag
he hates our History
he hates the Constitution
he hates our Traditions, and what made us Great!
he hates our Military
he wants to surrender to all of our enemies!

He is the Worst President Ever!
The most unacomplished President Ever!
In addtion, he’s actually quite an idiot; and can’t survive without a Teleprompter.

That said, we must NEVER advocate harm to him, nor his family, nor contravene the Rule of Law.

That is the ONLY thing we have remaining, that Seperates us from the Anti-American Left, such as “Chimpy” and the Third Would Republics.

It will be difficult, but we will survive, and we will one day look back on Obama’s time in the Oval Office as the WORST Presidency in American History, but the most important thing will be, we removed him Peacefully by VOTING him out of Office, and we can consign him to the Shitheap of History, that he so richly deserves.

We will NOT become like the American-hating Leftist, such as “Chimpy”, and wish harm upon America itself, because it made this dreadful mistake, nor wish harm upon Obama and/or his family, just because he hates this country so much.!

Dale in Atlanta on November 5, 2008 at 1:03 AM

The question we need to ask is Obama President for the good of his Country or himself? That will determine how he leads, as any good military leader knows it is about your people not you.

Sven on November 5, 2008 at 1:03 AM

Ah haaa!! You coulda had Ron Paul!!

I’ma love watching you folks tear yourselves to shreds! If you had any brains, you’d start with Bill Kristol and move down the line from there, Fred Barnes, Krauthammer, Frum. The neos killed the party and Obama’s what you got. Nice job!
