Congratulations, Obama

One of the last things Dean Barnett said to me was that, as best he could tell, Barack Obama is “a good guy and a decent man.” I don’t think he’d mind me telling you that, especially under the circumstances. It’s a testament to his generosity of spirit that even in the heat of a campaign, with every reason to think the worst of his opponent, Dean couldn’t help but give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s Barnett all over, and that’s what made him an indispensable man whom we’ve been forced, horrendously, to dispense with.
I offer that as comfort to those of you who have no faith in The One but who do have faith in, and abiding affection for, DB. My guess is he’d have handled the news tonight with the same magnanimity that distinguished all of his writing. So in that spirit, congratulations to Barry O on a race superbly run and to our country for not having let the wrong reasons deter it from making the wrong choice. I’ll never be a fan, but I swear I’ll never take a nutroots posture either in relishing his failures because it helps my party. Like it or not, he’s my president. As a great man once said, country first.

I wonder if Obama’s tax proposals will put us into a depression or just a bad recession. Something I’m still wondering is why Obama still has yet to provide an accurate copy of his birth certificate. That Democrat attorney general, Philip Berg, is still trying to file suit against Obama for not proving his U.S citizenship. I heard him being interviewed on Michael Savage. From the evidence this guy has compiled, it sounds like he has a real case. He claims to have an audio recording of Obama’s grandmother saying she was there in Kenya when Obama was born. His website is http://www.obamacrimes.com

You can’t be nice with this filth. You have to be as mean and nasty as they are, or get steamrolled. When are you nice polite rednecks going to get that? Do us blue state nasty conservatives have to teach you how to be mean and nasty? I will if I have to.

Well put.
No sale, MSC. When planes started flying into buildings seven years ago, I was very glad Bush was in office rather than Gore. If Dems want to complain, they can put up a decent candidate. Both Gore and Kerry are anemic twits.

One thing for sure, I am not giving up on this great country no matter how misguided her sheeple are. You know, Obama hasn’t done a damn thing yet, what makes you think he can accomplish anything as POTUS? My momma always said be careful what you ask for cause you might get it. Well, he got it. Let the games begin.

Oh the dictators of the world must be rejoicing and sharpening their claws…ready to attack…god help us.
Obama will take away our guns, change the Constitution, tax, tax & tax some more, take away the Fairness Doctrine and wants a Civilian military…WTF??? We already have the police, militia and border control. The middle class are SCREWED. Our freedoms are now threatened in a big way & this effects every single one of us.
The 3 Stooges – Obama, Pelosi & Reid (Barney Frank too) will cause so much more damage, they have no idea what they’re in for.

This is a historic day for our Country. A person who happens to be black has been elected President of the United States. I have no problems with his race just as would have no problems with Governor Palin’s gender if she had been elected as VPOTUS. Based on BHO’s past, I feel that he’s not the person to lead this great nation and strongly supported the Republican ticket. I hope that as time moves forward that he can change from an Urkel into a Jackie Robinson.
It will be incumbent on those of us that support less govt to remain diligent in observing how our individual state Congressmen behave over the next four years. As well as the new President and the Executive Branch.
America is a capitalist, freedom loving, force for good in the world. All of us must continue to strive to remain so.
I would like to thank Governor Palin and her family for stepping up to the plate and conducting themselves in an honorable manner these past few weeks. I hope to see her back on the national stage, soon.
Also, I would like to thank ManlyRash for scratching our itches as doubt sometimes crept into the HotAir site.
Thanx to all for their comments here and I look forward to seeing all (most anyway) contributors back here in the coming days.

Mr. Bush was a fool, but a good man nonetheless…the same cannot be said of Mr. Obama. That — not accomplishment, not ability, not loyalty and not honesty — is all he’s proven over the course of this campaign.
…so, if partisanship worries you, move to Zimbabwe…partisans don’t exist there…or, rather, they don’t survive there….
…where in the Constitution does it say that the President’s opposition has to be a loyal one…that’s a precedent our new president’s party has set….

Illinidiva on November 5, 2008 at 12:13 AM
People say “country first,” but what country? The country I love and am thankfully to have been born into is a constitutional republic in which individual liberty was never to be superseded by the totalitarian edicts of the State. That vision of America has been under assault to varying degrees for all of my life, not to mention some decades before. But the ideals were at least still alive, viable, and fought for.
Tonight, I think those ideals may well be dead, or at least fast on their way to the mausoleum of history. Aside from abolition and (maybe) the repeal of prohibition, is there a single line of the Bill of Rights with which Barack Obama agrees? Is there a single American historical achievement (other than his own election) for which he is proud? Is there any substantive decision an individual can make that he does not believe the State is better suited to make on his behalf?
To love one’s country simply for being the land mass on which one was born is empty, mindless Nationalism. To love one’s country for the ideals for which it stands is true patriotism. There’s no question that I put the United States of America, the embodiment of the US Constitution, first–after, that is, my own personal liberty. I can’t guarantee I will similarly cherish whatever country this is, regardless of its name on the map, in 2, 4, or possibly even 8 years.
Simply put, when the answer to Francis Scott Key’s famous question becomes “No,” which I fear it finally irrevocably may have tonight, and that star-spangled banner no longer does wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave, the United States of American is gone. I will always love its memory, but I will never love those who, moved by hubris and their unbridled lust for power, killed it. And I will never love any country that sees me as little more than a State-owned slave.
Blacklake on November 5, 2008 at 12:13 AM
Congrats Obama! I hope you live up to be a centrist….even though I won’t be holding my breath. But this is a truly historic day for America. Not when the other side has no rules. Voter fraud probably had an enormous impact, and we’ll probably never know how much. Money coming in from all corners of the globe, and a candidate that will say anything, even the exact opposite of what he said the day before to win.
When the electorate comes to rely to heavily on the state, as I’m sure most of America will the end is at hand … and that is the ultimate goal of Obama and his allies.

Dream on. They’ve been in control of the Congress for two years, defeated efforts to rein-in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the press blamed the whole subprime mess on the Republicans and people bought it and gave the SOBs even more power. They don’t have to produce, they have the entire press to cover for them. Anything that goes wrong in the next 2 years will be due to Bush’s legacy.
And personally I don’t have much faith in a 2010/2012 comeback. Not because we aren’t capable or won’t try but because once the socialists get power getting it back may be neigh unto impossible.

Lord, where to begin. I am just in a state of shock. This is a nightmare scenario of epic proportions. I have witnessed the start of the self-destruction of my beloved country.
I would say, that in any other time, we would just have to wait 2 years and start to re-take the government. But with the almost unchallenged power that this very narcissistic egomaniac and his minions wield, I fear that we are edging towards totalitarianism, or at least very limited freedoms that will prevent any effective counterbalance or challenge.
What of the barbarians at the gates – the islamofascists and other assorted criminals and rogues as well as our “friends” who seek our destruction, whether out of religious zealotry or mere jealousy?
Whither Israel now that the skies are darkening?
Somehow, I will seek out the words of Churchill and brace myself for what’s to come.
This may be a dark hour. But with perserverance, faith in family, friends and G-d almighty, and in the spirit of this great nation, perhaps this can become a moment of reflection and the starting point for reaffirming and reestablishing the values that so many have given their lives for.
Do not despair. Keep the faith. And although our candidate didn’t do it, fight. FIght on! Fight for what is right and defend our values and the truth from those who seek to sublimate them
G-d bless all of my fellow right-thinking Americans and G-d bless and protect this wonderful country.

A lot of people I know are middle class and live comfortably and could probably be better (aka not jealous of rich people) if they did more to live within their means. Now, they will be expecting this man to cure all their ills and make their bills go away. Rude awakening just over the horizon.
My dad was on the phone with my uncle and was explaining to him that this man is an unknown and will have control over our nukes, and all my uncle could say was “give him a chance.”I just cannot believe this. My dad is watching the speech, and he likened it to Jim Jones.
Call me a sore loser, I don’t care, but I will not congratulate this man.

I’m sorry. I can’t be congratulatory. I won’t lie and say what I don’t feel. CUMA. The Dems divided us for 8 long years. They spoke ill of America. Obama ran on a platform of distaste for America. Obama had ACORN and attorneys general in several states to help him steal the election, and now I’m supposed to congratulate him? I don’t think so.
The three years of the Obama administration, I’ll sit out here in the Far East. It’s better to sit in a communist country and be more free than to come home and watch America stripped of her Constitution and its freedoms.
