Congratulations, Obama

One of the last things Dean Barnett said to me was that, as best he could tell, Barack Obama is “a good guy and a decent man.” I don’t think he’d mind me telling you that, especially under the circumstances. It’s a testament to his generosity of spirit that even in the heat of a campaign, with every reason to think the worst of his opponent, Dean couldn’t help but give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s Barnett all over, and that’s what made him an indispensable man whom we’ve been forced, horrendously, to dispense with.
I offer that as comfort to those of you who have no faith in The One but who do have faith in, and abiding affection for, DB. My guess is he’d have handled the news tonight with the same magnanimity that distinguished all of his writing. So in that spirit, congratulations to Barry O on a race superbly run and to our country for not having let the wrong reasons deter it from making the wrong choice. I’ll never be a fan, but I swear I’ll never take a nutroots posture either in relishing his failures because it helps my party. Like it or not, he’s my president. As a great man once said, country first.

The above comment by Mark Garnett is right on target. Obama will bring communism to America. We deserve to be destroyed, we are an inmoral and corrupt society.

Doubt he wants to and the voters and courts would stop him if he did.

Now, what happens to ACORN and will Obama keep his promise that they’ll help shape his policies?
Lots of questions and no answers.

I am truly sorry, Allah, but I don’t agree with you or Barnett. I simply cannot call someone who would let a baby die in a soiled linen closet a “good man.” I can’t call someone who would see saving that child a “burden on the mother.” I cannot see someone who has consitently told a string of lies a good man. I cannot call someone who attended a racist antisemitic anti-American church for over 20 years, all the while naming the pastor as his spiritual mentor, a good man. No. Not ever.

My $0.02:
Obama is our president now. I didn’t vote for him, but the people have spoken. We should give this man an honest shot. We should fight for our principles without being petty. Obama has a chance to lead, and we should give him that chance. Further, for those of us who are Christians: we serve a mighty God. He can change minds, hearts, and actions of men. I pray that Obama, who is a Christian, relies on God to lead him through the tough decisions. I pray that God keeps him safe and healthy throughout his presidency.
One positive from this mandate: Anyone can achieve the dream. If a man with Obama’s upbringing can rise to become the president of the United States, then all those people who were bitter and hopeless about their chances now have an example. No more excuses. We now have a (black) man from a single parent home, who believed in the American dream, who has become the most powerful man in the world. Chris Matthews can retire the “racist” electorate stuff now.
Matticus Finch on November 5, 2008 at 10:10 AM

I didn’t vote for Obama, but I am going to act as I can only dream they would towards Bush. I am going ot respect the office of presidency, and I am going to give him a chance.
I am going to hope that I’m wrong about him in every aspect. This is one time I hope I’m not right, because if I’m right about what Obama will do, we’re all in a lot of trouble.

Hey guys, look on the bright side.
As a result of this election we now know that King’s dream has been achieved. We are no longer a nation of Raaaaciiiisssts (granted it can be argued we are a nation of idiots, but that’s for a different post).
I think the change we should hope for is the elimination of affirmative action and a REDUCTION of entitlement programs.
No longer can the Dems say with any kind of authority that minorities are downtrodden and need a hand out (rather a hand up will be the new mantra I am sure) because if Obama can do it anyone can (Yippee)!
If anything this should discredit the misery pimps like Jackson and Sharpton (Jackson who could clearly be seen Boo Hooing at Obama’s little soirée last night… end of an era).
Seriously if we get nothing else out of this it should finally take the wind out of the racist argument and reduce the intensity of white guilt.
@ntif@n on November 5, 2008 at 10:16 AM
The economy was probably the top issue. McCain’s age, Bush’s unpopularity, questions about Palin all contributed.
Not sure a more conservative candidate could have found a path to victory. Which conservative issue do you think would have swung the 6% difference over to the GOP?
dedalus on November 5, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Sure he is. Just ask all the people who voted for him for that reason alone.
It does not matter how thinks ARE to Democrats, only how they appear.
Elizabetty on November 5, 2008 at 10:19 AM
Absolutely not. I’m not going to play the same divisive, hateful game that they did. Barack Obama WAS a Senator who was a candidate. Come January, he WILL be President Obama, my president. I’m sure I will disagree with him on a majority of the things he does, but that does not change the level of respect that his position deserves.
Pelosi and Reid are still fair game, though.
Chuckie on November 5, 2008 at 10:20 AM
There’s no wisdom in behaving like the rabid left koskid demographic and vomiting vitriol all over Obama.
He played the population like a cheap fiddle and won, fair & square, in accordance with the principles of democracy.
Now we have to live with the consequences of their poor decision.
The best thing to do, I think, is to be cool and clinical. Good policy needs to be supported, regardless of origin, and bad policy needs to be dissected and publicly discredited.
We must become the new standard bearers of intelligent and constitutional progress.
Without pouting.

Allah i’m sorry to disagree but lets look at the forest instead of being diverted by all the trees. The left is going to ream us no matter what we do so i say NO MEEK ACCEPTANCE OF OBAMA NOW OR EVER! Its this moderate cumbaya attitude that got us into trouble in the first place…
an autocratic leftist shroud has fallen on our nation through the ballot box in a way reminiscent of the Chavez electoral take over of Venezuela. I lived that in vivid color.
WE have no checks and balances now to stop Obama – not the senate, not the house, not the presidency, not the courts – after he gets through appointing and congress quickly consenting to his leftist jurists and not the fawning leftist media.
NOW these moronic republicans are saying its all good he’s our president lets all march off the socialist paradise and sing cumbaya together…PATHETIC! Cmon grow a pair and resist, obstruct, mock, ridicule, attack, anything having to do with Obama and his ilk. Fight damn it fight.

The good news is that the race card has been officially retired.
But do not let the pundits try to convince you that conservative politics lost, conciliatory politics lost.
Conservative politics was never presented, a “anything you can do I can do better” politics is what was displayed. The only real difference between the two candidates was on abortion and the war.
They both showed incredible lack of leadership on the economy, they both are giving money for health, rather then cutting back programs that are driving the price up. Both said they want to slow government growth, but the both were in a senate that saw record growth. Tell me the difference on the immigration issues.
No, conservative Republican politics was not on the table this election.

My sentiments exactly.
With all due respect to Dean Barnett, may he rest in peace, it was comments like his that helped many overlook the obvious dangers of an Obama presidency. Even Sean Hannity prefaced almost all of his criticisms of Obama with the same nonsense, at least for the early months. He stopped doing it so much when it became clear Obama really was a danger, but by then, how much damage had been done?
Oh that they would, but then, we wouldn’t be in this mess if they actually thought it mattered. While good things finally came from some of our bishops and clergy, it was far too little, far far too late.

I will respect that Obama is our new president, and if he wants to be a socialist president, I will do my utmost to work against him.
I was not a fan of McCain, and I did as his mother suggested and held my nose to vote for him. That being said, the McCain camp ran an awful campaign. So many missed opportunities, it was hard to believe that professionals ran it.
If there’s one lesson to learn here, it is how not to run a presidential campaign.

I don’t know why anyone thinks the race card is going to be retired now. It’s too useful a weapon for the left.
Anytime anyone disagrees with the incoming administration it will be the first thing thrown out (for you don’t need anything to back up the accusation). Race relations will get far worse under the One, and white people will be shouted down, shamed, audited, and jailed into submission.

Come on people! While there is breath in my body I will not allow myself to be beaten down by my own government. Where there is dedication to the ideals of individual liberty and industry, there is real hope.
The people who think the government will pay for their mortgage and gas will always be disappointed because that system cannot work. They are losers now and will always be losers. The people who get out of bed every day, go to work, and who, whether they fail or succeed, don’t make excuses or look for handouts will always be winners as long as they have the right to do so. I can’t wait for 2010. I will not be cowed or silenced by a facist, socialist agenda. Remember: four years of Carter got us eight years of Reagan.

As for the socialism, you already see it creeping into the States at the local level. The taxes and amount of intrusion into one’s personal life in places like NYC and Chicago is probably as high as in Europe. The only reason why most Europeans don’t realize this is because the taxes don’t all go to the federal government. I live in Chicago and we have a 11.5% sales tax as well as pretty hefty property taxes at the local level. The government is, of course, controlled by the Dem. combine and is about as democratic as Mexico was during the 1960s.

Yeah, it tends to happen more often that way. An exception being when someone like Perot or Bloomberg is seen as self-made and having wealth that makes them less subject to corruption.
Mitt would have added a lot of credibility as VP in discussing the sources of the financial meltdown and giving Americans a sense that the GOP ticket could fix it. Palin couldn’t make that case convincingly. But the Dems would have hammered Mitt as being the type of guy who caused the mess. There was upside with Mitt but risk too.

Doesn’t matter. We just had a fraud of a candidate who claimed he could deliver democrats and independents disrupt the Republican Party for 8 years to fulfill his personal ambition to lose the presidency in a dignified way. Why? Remember, the idiots in the KKK think they’re on our team, too. In a two-party system, neither party is necessarily responsible for every whack-job retard that chooses to support it.
There are plenty of legitimate arguments to be made against Obama’s policies, including some that can legitimately be called socialism; but just showing a few young skulls full of mush waving a commie flag will convince precisely no one who is not already convinced.

Obama becoming President has not ended racism. Consider this: if some crazy person tries to assasinate him and heaven forbid succeeds it will throw America back 40 years. I did not vote for Obama but now that he is the President I’m going to pray for him and pray for his protection. I live just outside Durham NC and I was scared when the Duke Lacrosse story broke. The Black Panthers led a march right down the middle of town. Not trying to cause fear, just injecting a little reality. Obama had to spend unspeakably HUGE amounts of money – many many many times as much as Senator McCain – in order to win the presidency by paltry a two or three point margin in many battleground states. He bought the presidency with the media’s willing assistance and with the help of a faltering economy aided and abetted by Democrats in Congress. Considering all that was against him, it’s bloody amazing that Senator McCain was so close in so many battles.

My son-in-law just did that.

Yes to this. I get it, but it isn’t productive behavior and it gives me a headache to HATE so much.

Congratulations on a superbly run campaign? Are you kidding me?
3/4 of a billion dollars spent for six points. Yeah, mission accomplished. Hell, give me 3/4 of a billion and 21 months and I could get elected President.
This election was a disgrace for our country. The only color that continues to matter in this country is green — not black or white.

Wow, dcmike, cut back on the caffeine, dude. It’s a beautiful day. Try smiling . . . and then look up the word
satire. Sheesh!

Sorry about your Mom but it is no solace that 55M did not vote for Barry. 62M did and he will add another 20M voters with amnesty for illegals.
The political process itself is now broken. BHO took untold millions in illegal donations and helped bankroll voter fraud in 11 states. That is now the blueprint for how you win an election in the US.
America is now finished – lost without a shot fired.
I will tell my grandkids about it’s former greatness and will apologize that I could not prevent it’s destruction.
