Video: The Truth about Obama

posted at 9:45 am on November 3, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

The National Republican Trust issues its final argument against a Barack Obama administration in a lengthy web ad called “The Truth about Obama”. It basically runs all of NRT’s earlier advertisements in a single video:

Topics covered:

  • Jeremiah Wright
  • Financial crisis
  • Immigration
  • Lack of experience
  • Media bias
  • William Ayers
  • Redistributionism
  • Gun control

If nothing else, it’s an easy way to get through all of NTR’s ads.  Unfortunately, they repeat the ads in a couple of places, which makes it look like NTR put this together in a hurry for Election Eve.  Nonetheless, it serves as a reminder of the 527 effort in the election and makes a nice summary for those who may not have paid attention until the final couple of weeks.

You know, I can’t recall one post over the last few weeks that said why people should vote for McCain rather not vote for Obama.

John McCain is the Republican’s John Kerry. But at least with Bush, the bashing was in large part because of his policies. The McCain campaign has been relying on personal attack and innuendos. Stuff like “Barak Obama is not who he says he is.” And stuff like this from Joe the Plumber:

“McCain has fought and bled for our country, loves our country,” said Joe Wurzelbacher, aka “Joe the Plumber,” who has campaigned throughout Ohio with and on behalf of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. “There’s too many questions with Barack Obama and his loyalty to our country. And I question that greatly.”

Fox News’ Neil Cavuto tried to clarify: “You’re not doubting that he’s a good American. Or you are?”

“His ideology is completely different from what democracy stands for,” said Wurzelbacher.

In fact, there’s been more excitement and support for Palin and “Joe The Plumber” on this site than for McCain. That says volumes.

Obama will most likely win tomorrow (I’m not foolish enough to say he WILL win, but I have confidence), and it’ll be because he ran a better campaign. He offered a clear choice of change from the previous 8 years. He came off more presidential, with the intelligence and temperament that more Americans trust. And, perhaps most importantly, he didn’t constantly smear his opponent. He offered a positive message and didn’t rely on the politics of fear to make himself look like the better man for the job.

News? When did they get a news division? Don’t get me wrong, I love Fox, but it is hard to actually find news as part of the newscasts. You are so right, God Bless Hannity!

Laura in Maryland on November 3, 2008 at 9:58 AM

I do not believe that yet another ad is going to help at this point. My hope is, is that the McCain camp has allocated their resources to create an impressive get out the vote campaign. That is what is going to make all the difference, boots on the ground and phone calls.

I think it is safe to assume that after electing Bubba Billy Clinton to two straight terms in office, as far as the pols and pundits were concerned, anything even coming close to moral values officially went out the window.

The real problem we have with B.O. here is that virtually no one who says they are voting for him has, I would be willing to bet, never bothered to check his past political history and associations to see just what kind of candidate he really is.

What irks me more than anything else is that right now in Chicago, they are setting up this big Election Night extravaganza in Grant Park. If there is anyone who would know what B.O. is really all about, it is the people of Chicago, and yet they will be flocking to Grant Park tomorrow night like it is the Second Coming.

No one is checking into what B.O. is all about except sites like this and new services like Fox News.

It really makes me ill to think this guy could be the winner. It really does.

They are also saying that many Indian Americans are planning to vote Obama. Hope if this gets at least some of them off the Messiah bandwagon.

Just read Mac’s WSJ piece posted here under headlines. They are closing hard, hard hard (finally!). Also IMHO, Fox is getting more positive by the minute. Yesterday on FNS, Rove, Hume and even Billy C. were quite pessimistic. This a.m. on F&F, Karl was much more buoyant, and Carl Cameron is now talking about the rationale behind the internal Mac-pack polling (oversampling Dems, independants breaking HARD for McCain). it is resonating loudly!

Thanks for checking in. How long does the Obama campaign have you on its payroll? Through midnight tomorrow night?

FWIW: How about McCain’s stances on energy, Supreme Court appointments, and abortion–among other things? The reason for the negatives about Obama is that his alliances with Wright, Ayers, Rezko, and the like should have disqualified him in primary. Those go to the matter of his underlying character. Because he fails there, why bother breaking a sweat over his lousy policies?

Tom – I suppose it’s easier to ignore negative campaigning when it’s coming from your own side. However, the constant drum beat of “McCain = Bush! If you don’t like Bush, don’t vote McCain” is negative campaigning.

As for Obama providing a clear alternative, I again disagree. I’ve seen vague platitudes about voting for change and I’ve seen promises to heal the world and fix what ails ya, but I haven’t seen any specifics as to how this would be done (much less how it would be paid for).

Do we really need to do this again?

I’m sure you won’t allude to his blatant use of race as a factor all through the primaries and the general election campaign. I’m pretty certain you won’t mention his obvious distain for those who live in fly-over country and our values. Most Americans have been more pissed off by those things than you seem to realize or are willing to admit, and they are not as stupid as you would like to believe.

You best prepare yourself for a reality check on Wednesday.

To me, everything points to Obama as a weak leader. Nothing points to him as a strong leader. He wants to be liked. He doesn’t want to be seen as a bad person. He strives to do what is socially and politically correct. Weak on foreign policy, and his domestic policy will weaken the country day by day. Worse than Carter. That will be his 4 year legacy. Very weak.

How can you look at all that and not think that they’re positives for McCain? McCain won’t bankrupt the coal industry, an industry which quite a few states still depend on to keep their economy up. McCain won’t raise anyone’s taxes, which has been proven to raise employment. Many businesses have already admitted that they will have to raise prices or lay off workers under Obama’s plan.

Oh, and whoever wrote that first blurb forgot to include the fact that McCain doesn’t cheat by bypassing security measures for his online donations.

Sir Corky on November 3, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Hey, Tom, you’re making a silly argument. Don’t you get the concept of a “deal breaker”? It’s really not that difficult a concept.

Barack has offered up what for some people are multiple “deal breakers,” like his 20 year participation in a racist church, promises to redistribute income, etc. and for those people McCain hasn’t given them any such deal breakers.
Yes, McCain’s the Republican John Kerry. Fair enough, but I’m going to assume that you voted for John Kerry even though he was the Democratic party’s … uh … John Kerry. As a more extreme example, nobody ever asks, “Yes, I’ve heard all the negativity, but why should I vote for the guy who’s running against David Duke.” Please. Sometimes just not being the other guy is enough.

There are many more reasons that BHO shouldn’t be our president than his birth certificate. It makes me sad for the state of this country that he even has a chance to be elected. How did we get to the point that a socialist (yes, trolls he is a socialist) who pals around with Marxists and American-hating preachers because of their political pull polls more than Nader ever had. He is the exact antithesis of the idea that MLK was trying to get across in his famous speech. It is obvious to me that many of Americans are judging him on the color of his skin and not on the content of his character. If it was the latter, he wouldn’t even have a chance.

NIVALDO on November 3, 2008 at 6:25 PM

Hey America, now it is more important than ever to stand up for our American Values, Beliefs, and our way of life. Senator Obama has cloked the truth about how he will be raising taxes and spreading the wealth. In his speeches, he first told us that he’d raise taxes for people making $250,000. or more. Then in another speech, Obama said he’d raise taxes for people making $200,000. or more. Joe Biden, his faithful sidekick said Obama would raise taxes for people making $150,000. or more and Gov. Richardson then said Obama would raise taxes for people making $120,000. or more. I for one do not want to work as hard as I do each day and then have my taxes raised so someone who does not work can get a tax relief check from Obama’s new world government! Obama said tonight in his speech that taxes would be like they were in the 1990’s! Our family is not wealthy by a long shot, but under Obama’s taxes like they were in the 1990’s declaration would put my working spouse and I back in the 45% tax bracket instead of the 30% where we are now.

Just like most of you, we’ve worked hard, putting ourselves through college, raising kids and now helping them pay for college to offset some of their college loans. What gives Obama the right to call us “selfish” because we don’t want to spread our hard earned money around, instead of helping our own children get a good start on their adult lives? Let him spread his own wealth around and leave ours alone! America was created as a nation under God, where people could come to make a better life for themselves and their families. From our country’s birth, people came to America to start a business or own a farm, go to school, practice their religion without persecution, and have the freedom of speech. These first generations of Americans gave their lives in wars on our soil to keep America free. Now, with Obama, the democrats are already publically talking about and making plans to put into law the Fairness Act, which would cut our freedom of speech. Under the Fairness Act, radio and TV stations would be censored and told what type of programming to have on their stations. Radio talk show hosts who speak about conservative issues and ideas would be forced off the air. Did you notice that Obama wouldn’t let journalist from conservative newspapers and TV stations on his campaign plane? He is brilliant at controlling his environment, always orchrastrating the events, scenes, and people around him. We don’t really know the real Barack Obama, we only know what he wants us to see, an image of a successful, smooth talking, calm, and concerned leader. Is that what we want for our country? Is that what we want for our children and their children in the future?
The other item that should concern everyone, is why won’t Obama hand over his original birth certificate? There is an attorney in Florida who has petitioned the courts to have Obama produce his original birth certificate because there is a strong belief and some evidence that Obama was not born in Hawaii and is not an American citizen, therefore he would not qualify to be President.
At the democratice rallies, as Obama smiles and charms the thousands of people who come to hear him speak, they are deaf and blind to the truth between the lines of what he says. His ideas and plans are pure socialism verging on Marxism. The Health Care Plan he talks about would be government run, which would take away our choice of doctors and make us wait many months to see specialist just like in other countries with socialistic medical care. As Americans, we like to make our own choices about important matters in our lives, not be told what doctor we can or cannot see when we need medical attention. John McCain has been trying to warn us what will happen under an Obama presidency, asking the hard questions and making a stand for the American people. Why aren’t the main TV stations like NBC, ABC, and CBS asking these questions? Why aren’t enough of us asking these questions?
