Video: Peggy Noonan votin’ for … McCain

posted at 3:42 pm on November 3, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

After weeks of suspense, she finally declares at around 4:10. I honestly don’t get it. After all the praise for The One’s coolness and supposed eloquence and passages like this about the ‘Cuda, she’s going Republican anyway?

In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It’s no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism.

Her last column declared “the imminent arrival of a new liberal moment.” Presumably this is her small way of standing athwart history yelling “stop.”

They’re also both girls.

There, I said it. Let’s face it, Obama looks like he got a few wedgies in his school days.

Too little, too late. Peg, we still remember your hot mike moment. You can’t make it go away. You sense your market value falling, don’t you? Perhaps Paul Harvey will let you fill in for him on occasion. You can do the commercials.

Eh, I’m more annoyed by Peggy Noonan’s cloying preciousness than I am by her ideological caprice. Her brand of treacly prose is long past its expiration date, on either side of the aisle.

Glad to have her vote though. Glad to have every vote for McCain/Palin.

I was a little upset with her criticism, but in my opinion, she at least did not seem to wallow gloriously in it like Kathleen Parker (going on Colbert, etc.).

She’s Neville Chamberlain … afraid to take a stand. Driving right down the middle. She has no spine and I dislike her intensely.

a new vulgarization in American politics

Is this tired old hag fucked-up on crack? Vulgarization? Does somebody need to break out the crayola for the dumb broad and bring her up to speed on what a shithole its been for at least over a decade now?

If DC is a greasy fart in a car, Palin is the mercifully opened window.

Noonan is deranged.

William Amos on November 3, 2008 at 4:05 PM

I for one will not have that Noonan woman on my yacht after this. She’s wishy, but I would let Barry swab the deck, before I’d let her man the compass.

anti-boomer on November 3, 2008 at 4:05 PM

I like Peggy Noonan. She has been a godsend for conservatives for the past 30ish years. The Ronald Reagan/Peggy Noonan team was un-freaking-believable.

I don’t care what she has said in the past month or so. Her record more than makes up for it. Her column should still be read.

/minority

Abby Adams on November 3, 2008 at 3:51 PM

Well said, Abby! It’s ironic that the Sarah fanatics are ripping on her for criticizing Palin’s performance, because I was most impressed by how Noonan lambasted the left for its disgusting treatment of Palin in the days after she was selected. When she wrote that it “offended America’s sense of fairness and gallantry” she couldn’t have been more right.

Caiwyn on November 3, 2008 at 4:06 PM

I thing I’ve had my fill of this pretentious bore.

Hey, there’s an idea. “Why Peggy, I believe you’ve just had an ******.”

BigD on November 3, 2008 at 4:06 PM

At the end of the day, Peggy you know your audience. Some will take you back, some never left you, but for me, your “comfortable middle” brand of conservatism is the death of our party. No I don’t think you are evil or even manipulative, simply misguided. McCain’s principled stand on taking public funds for the election (something tells me this isn’t the only election year promise Obama has no intention of keeping) and his selection of Sarah Palin won my admiration and support. In turn, Peggy, your inability to distinguish the relative merits of a President Obama (129 “present” votes as state senator, mere 143 days as U.S. Senator) versus a VP Palin (runs and wins against corrupt incumbent governor of her own party and thus qualifies as having more executive experience than Obama or Biden) exposes you to charges of opportunism. McCain and Palin are not afraid to take on members of their own party or to lose an election if it means winning a war. You on the other hand are a “summertime soldier” unwelcome among those who wear the scars of battle such as McCain and Palin.

The MSM is the place for you. Enjoy your run with MSNBC and CNN.

Angry Dumbo on November 3, 2008 at 4:07 PM

Does that her one vote make up for the many votes she may have cost McCain?

Mr A on November 3, 2008 at 4:07 PM

If I thought this harpie was really voting for McCain, I’d have to reconsider my own support for Mac. Rest assured, however, the two-faced punditress said something entirely different off camera.

james23 on November 3, 2008 at 4:07 PM

Trust me….neither Noonan nor Frum will vote for McCain/Palin when the time comes. I’ll never forgive her for what she did to Sarah.

wtmvaliant on November 3, 2008 at 4:08 PM

Hey Peggy – your time is up. You sold out, and I actually think you can’t wait to pull the lever for the imminent arrival of a new liberal moment and you and all of your friends at PMSNBC did more than your part. Regardless of what you say in public.
You, Madam (pun intended) are done.

I used to like Ms. Noonan, but I have found her columns increasingly wordy and empty. Inside all the flowerly language used to be something resembling a point. No longer. Now all I see is, “Blah blah blah I love my voice blah blah blah.”

What an elitist little snot.

Sir Andrew on November 3, 2008 at 4:12 PM

She runs away with her one night stand for three weeks and crawls back home.

What did he do to you , dear?

*puts blanket around her and gives her a hot cocoa*

Saltysam on November 3, 2008 at 4:12 PM

After my first post, I went back and read what everyone else had to say. I hope you guys are more willing to forgive than you sound, if indeed she were to change her tune. Of course so far there is no evidence to suggest she will do so, but people can get off-track and then get back on it. Is it appropriate that she pay a certain “scorn tax” for her weak-tea support for McCain? Yeah, definitely. But she has, prior to 2004, been a strong voice for conservative principles and for those virtues that make America great.

You don’t have to let her off the hook entirely; but just ask yourself — could you see Reagan bitterly despising her forever? Let’s not turn into Conservative KOS-Kids. America, and conservatism, should be about love, not hate.

RegularJoe on November 3, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Peggy Noonan is a total FRAUD. We will NEVER forget Noonan’s cheap sexist shots against a Palin.

I am disgusted with Noonan’s act at self-preservation at the expense of the country.

That goes for you too Colin Powellosi.

This woman has discredited herself and there is no going back. No true conservative can support Obama and his extreme liberal, socialistic agenda without throwing conservative values aside. Values do not change. She is a very shallow person and it disgusts me.

Peggy knows that the only job she has (had?) is as a conservative — the left does not need her and there are plenty of lefty lady pundits to go around — can you say “hello” Kirsten Powers.

Her problem is that the right doesn’t need her, either. Nobody knows who she is, and without a viewpoint, who needs a pundit?

BigD on November 3, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Probably wouldn’t be as bad if she hadn’t ripped Palin just simply for the absolutely transparent fact that she didn’t graduate from some elitlist college or didn’t attend the right cocktail parties.

Krauthammer criticizes Palin too, but it’s obviously a different way than Parker or Noonan does it.

YellowDawg on November 3, 2008 at 4:16 PM

She is only on because of her link to Reagan. She didn’t have to be a true believer to write as she did. I give her props for her work for Reagan but let’s face it — a whore will whore herself out to the highest bidder. Clearly, she flirted with the dark side and got no response from the Obama-ites so she is trying to save face and worm her way back to the right. The woman is shameless.

she has always come across as a pompous b****. Just like the “elite” minded liberals I can’t stand.

She is a great writer and her Thousand Points of Light speech is quite an accomplishment, but she’s weak. She is pretty much dead in the Republican party and in Conservative circles as far as I am concerned so she better get comfortable on MSNBC.

Daemonocracy on November 3, 2008 at 4:23 PM

Not so much about forgiving as it is questioning her mental balance. An outbreak of viral insanity would make as much sense as what happened in the East Coast conservative bubble. Palin did nothing to deserve this. Once the Pegster showed she isn’t safe around sharp objects, why would anyone trust her again?

Feedie on November 3, 2008 at 4:23 PM

Scranton on November 3, 2008 at 4:09 PM

Her vacillations indicate a propensity for a lack of grasping elaborate ideas quickly, digesting their meaning, and responding with a simple elegance and rhetorical wit.

It also suggests a psychosis that reveals itself in the presence of attractive and courageous women that have an intuitive sense for political complexities and a natural ability to decipher their meanings into laymen’s terms, like, say, a Governor Palin type.

If that’s true, I’m not sure there’s any room for me, nor that there should be for anyone who claims to be a Christian. We should have things that we believe strongly, and that we stand up for strongly; but hating someone for believing them weakly — or even not at all — isn’t something I want to be a part of. A reading from the Gospel of Mathew the 20th Chapter v 1-16

20:1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius [1] a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ 7 They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ 8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ 9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 10 Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. 11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, 12 saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ 13 But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. 15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’ [2] 16 So the last will be first, and the first last.”

As much scorn as I have heaped on Noonan, I am glad at the 11th hour that she has come to her senses. I hope and pray that many of the Obama spell will be broken and many other voters follow in Peggy Noonan’s footsteps.

C’mon, she got it right in the end.

So she focused on the fact that Sarah Palin is not ready to be POTUS. Nobody is.

Trouble is, everything Dems point to regarding Palin’s inexperience is far more troubling when applied to The One –before considering the fact that Obama brings that greater level of inexperience to the office on day one. There can be no doubt that Joe Biden wwould be locked in a closet before the, err, book is closed on inaguration day.

As I tell anyone who raises McCain’s age as an issue, “Did you see his mom at the convention?” Surviving 4 years is nothing for John McCain.

Oh, goody for her. As if we cared anymore…

I understood her early comments being disappointed in Palin to a certain extent, but to actually daydream about possibly voting for the O (!) she has forever crossed the line into nutty-land.

Here’s what I’m hoping for: five years from now, I wander into a McDonald’s late one evening, and my order is taken by a sixty-ish bonde-ish white woman. When she asks me in a whispery little girl voice “would you like fries with that?” I say “Why yes, Peggy, I would like fries with that.”

After her embarrassing truth telling when she thought the camera was off – how am I to trust her?

I dont. She has been noticably Pro-Obama for almost a year.

No word about opening a Pandora’s Box of Un-American, non-Christian, anti-Israel, anti-military goblins that will lose everything we have fought for and won over the last eight years?

The Obama Youth will be by to pick her up.

If this were an Indiana Jones movie, Peggy would have morphed into volcanic ash for her smarmy treachery.

She chose…. unwisely.

Hey Peg

Please have a cup of shut the hell up.

And a goaway chaser.

TIA
