Predictions
posted at 10:15 am on November 3, 2008 by Allahpundit
Now or never. Electoral votes and popular vote percentages — leave ‘em in the comments for gloating/mockery purposes tomorrow night. If you want to refine your EV metric rather than just blindly guess, the CNN calculator is at your service.
You’ll find my map below. Obama 318, Maverick 220, with The One pulling 51 percent nationwide to McCain’s 47. I gave McCain Ohio partly because he and Palin have spent so much time there but mainly because I don’t have the stomach to sketch out a truly gruesome landslide, my reputation for Eeyore-ism notwithstanding. I gave Obama Florida because (a) he’s owned the airwaves there for months, and never more so than very recently; (b) McCain’s advantage among Hispanics in the state is negligible, reflecting Obama’s big lead among that demographic nationally plus the fact that there are now more Hispanic Dems in Florida than Republicans; (c) The One’s ground game has always been superior to McCain’s and he’s made Florida, naturally enough, a special target; and (d) if, as I expect, he wins the popular vote, that has to translate into some big state victories. So Florida it is.
If you disagree and are looking for a McCain victory scenario, your task is simple: Find a way to flip no fewer than 50 blue EVs below into Maverick’s column. Even Pennsylvania and Florida won’t do it; he needs Virginia too or else one of the western states, the likeliest of which would be Nevada. And of course he has to hold Indiana, Missouri, and North Carolina — all of which are now within a point.
You’re welcome to predict the Senate races if you like. I don’t have the stomach for that, either.

If it were just up to the McCain ground game, I would agree. However, I believe that the RNC still has the “get out the vote” advantage. McCain flips Fl, Va, and Pa.
Conservative will drag the Mac across the line. The messiah cannot close the deal.

McCain wins by flipping five of Allah’s blue states: FL, OH, VA, CO, and NV.

Wow, YRM, that’s totally uncalled for. The worst part of it isn’t that your hyperbole is ridiculous and offensive, it’s that it’s blatantly false.

Prediction: “If” the Dems win they will happy for about 90 days until the reality of the collapsing economy will crush their plans for tax cuts and bigger government.
Sorry to say that if McCain wins he will face the same fate.
My advice to everybody is get out of debt and stop worrying about Washington and worry more about your own financial condition.

These same pollsters have a more recent history of getting BHO’s numbers very wrong (in BHO’s favor, of course).
Secondly, anyone who realizes the importance of this election (it is about whether the US as defined by our Consitution still exists) would understand that this is a far different type of election than ever before. Those who treat this like any other election are out of their friggin’ minds and have no concept of history and no inkling of the total sh#tstorm that America and the world will see if BHO wins.

PA is going red… southeastern PA is purple (more blueish than I’d like, to be sure). But the coal regions, which have been mostly Dem since time immemorial, are going for McCain big enough to offset that. And Murtha’s gonna eat a tasty crap sandwich, too.
PA, FLA, VA red, plus what Allah’s got, delivers 281. That’s enough, my friends. 281-257 McPalin.
Comrade Barry will take the pop vote by a fraction of a percent, but not reach 50. Big margins coming from cemeteries in ILL, illegals in CA and cartoon characters in NY.
either orr on November 3, 2008 at 10:46 AM
I think a few things help McCain in these final hours:
1. Lots of people polled (including dems) give false reporting for fear of being labeled “racist”. I’ve seen a lot of reports on the blogs this weekend of lifelong dems that are voting for McCain, just based on the fact Obama is too radical.
2. Hillary’s PUMA vote: I believe her minions are going to be given marching orders to vote against Obama, because she plain out hates him. Especially the feminist voters, because Obama is so blatantly anti-woman.
3. Seniors: This will be the heaviest and most reliable voting block, and I believe unless they are completely senile, they will vote for the guy that won’t raise taxes on their Social Security. This is why I think McCain will take Florida.
4. Most of the up-for-grabs votes will decide at the very last minute. Anybody that hasn’t been hypnotized by Obama’s aura yet is unlikely to decide to go with him in these final stages of the election. These people will either vote McCain or stay home.
Lets get out there and volunteer any way we can tomorrow!

Shouldn’t Obama be up like 15-10 points by now….
seems like with all the money, all the media bias in his favor, in a recession economy, and after 8 years of bush, he’s only running neck to neck with mccain at best…
even pundits say if he’s not up by at leat 15 points by october, he will lose. HE HAS NOT CLOSED THE SALE!!!
seems to me only HE AND THE LIBERAL MEDIA are the ones living in la la land in predicting he’s gonna win..
mccain will be our next president.

There is still a large part of the electrate in both OH, PA and to a lesser extent in VA that has never been polled and that are the Amish, that have no tv, telephone, radio, or internet. And in PA, they make up about 5% of the people there, and in OH about the same. I am going to predict that McCain carries FL, NC, VA, OH, and PA, as well as a few surprises out there:
Veitnam Hero: 303

ConservativePartyNow on November 3, 2008 at 10:50 AM
I give McCain Nevada (Veterans and Mormons), Pennsylvania because well I know too many people from PA Obama is not getting the state. Virginia because the polls are so heavily weighted against McCain it is ridiculous, when you see a poll with close to the 2004 spread Republican +3 McCain is too close to call the state for Obama. My big suprise for you is Iowa. I have not spent a whole lot of time there but the people I know do not seem like Obama voters. I think the PUMA’s are strong there. McCain takes Florida on the strentgh of old people, Jews in particular. Allah sites there are more Hispanic Dems ion Florida but we already know which voting block tends to show up les at the polss and is generally more apathetic. And I still don’t buy Hispanics voting for the black guy. Too much racial tension for that. Colorado is a toss up.
Iowa-7
Florida-27
Virginia-13
Pennsylvania-21
Nevada-5

I’m not sure anyone can predict this. I’m not even going to try.
A McCain win (or even landslide) would be hi-larious (at least, the handwringing from the left, MSM and pollsters would be), but the prevailing winds certainly point toward an Obama presidency. Who knows?

BTW, is Allahpundit always so depressing?
I_hate_politicians on November 3, 2008 at 10:50 AM
McCain 287
Obama 251
The media and Allah make this all seem so unlikely by saying McCain has to win all the toss-up states. However, it is more likely that if McCain wins states like VA, OH, or FL, he will win them all. And a win in PA will ensure the election for McCain. He is not going to win PA and lose VA or OH or NC.
Also if Obama was trailing by 2 or 3 the media would be saying it is a “dead heat”, because it is within the margin of error. But because Obama is ahead by 2 or 3 the media spins it as a lead. Bias?

YRM on November 3, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Even if Allahpundit is blatantly wrong, to call him an axelturfer and a troll on your first day commenting here is just blatantly crappy behaviour.
You don’t have to agree with the guy’s analysis — which as I’ve pointed out has at least a somewhat successful track record — to refrain from calling him a in essence a traitor.
I watched Karl Rove on Fox News a moment ago. He’s a fairly conservative dude, good political bona fides, even something of an expert I hear.
Like myself, he said that McCain could still win it. But he also pointed out that Obama won the last 251 polls in a row and the last time McCain won one is some time in September.
Not counting the small sample 1-day snapshot poll, which aren’t generally considered reliable either.
I think some of these polls are crap, and the ones that aren’t crap STILL show McCain behind, but by a smaller margin.
And Allahpundit’s analysis reflects a better than average case scenario considering those polls.
I think McCain can win it.
But getting away from who’s right or who’s wrong, you were uncouth to your host. Accusing him of being a troll.

anniekc on November 3, 2008 at 10:52 AM
McCain wins it by taking FL, NV, VA, PA. Registered Democrat voters in early voting isn’t translating into huge Obama leads. This plus undecideds breaking for McCain will take McCain across the threshold.
JimC_ on November 3, 2008 at 10:52 AM
My sense all along is that it will either be Obama by 3-4%, or McCain will blow him out of the water. Funny, all these months later I still feel the same way. I don’t see a long, dragged out process, either.

McCain will flip PA for the win, IMHO. He will also carry FL, OH, NV, and NC. Not sure about VA yet, though.
McCain: 273

In moments of grandeur I do, however, envision a ginormous landslide in Mac’s favor. I think the PUMAs are a bit underestimated, as well as other disillusioned Democrats that may be simply biding their time until election day.

Allah’s prediction could be right but both Virginia and Florida are razor thin margins no matter who polls and what direction those polls lean. PA is not so close in the last polls but its been trending markedly toward McCain and the latest coal bankruptcy blast could push that state to McCain. My gut tells me either it will be O’Bama by 10 or McCain by 5, depending upon the swing of undecideds.
The coal story will resonate in PA, VA, Ohio etc. Bradley effect will take care of the rest, not in no small part that BO keeps bringing up the “Socialist” label and “Joe the Plumber” label in speeches as recently as yesterday. Why remind voters of your negative labels unless their internals show it is sticking? He is sinking his own ship.
This will work, and would be a 5% edge for McCain. If there is not a groundswell of undecided and those who have second thoughts, it will be O’Bama by 10. I believe the groundswell is there.
“Spread the Wealth”
“Redistribution”
“Bankrupt Coal”
“Skyrocketing energy prices”
“Joe the Plumber”
“ACORN”
“Wright”
“Socialist”
“International testing with crisis”
“Kalidhi”
“Ayers”
“Control of Congress”
“True responsibility for Fannie and Freddie causing meltdown”
“Handout to those that pay no taxes”
If none of this resonates with the public we are in denial, but I think it does, McCain by 5.

As for Virginia, we’ve got the military (if they’ll COUNT THE STINKIN’ ABSENTEE BALLOTS!), we’ve got a large Asian population, whom the “Washington Post” said are going for McCain, and we’ve got the traditionally Republican southern rural areas. Don’t count us out.

Tell us why its time Allah. Me thinks its premature – there are medications to solve that problem. I will predict when appropriate and not sooner.

McCain: 270 (291 when Pennsylvania is finally resolved)
Obama: 247
with Pennsylvania still counting and recounting with a record 125% turnout in Philadelphia.
McCain surprises Allahpundit by winning: Florida, Virginia, New Hampshire, Nevada, and Maine’s 1st district.
In February, final counting determines that McCain actually won Pennsylvania — but just like Florida in 2000, liberals will never accept that result.
Obama wins the popular vote in a squeaker, with Republicans claiming persuasively that the greater than 100% turnout in so many urban districts makes a mockery of these claims.
Senate results: 56 Dem, 42 Rep, + Joe Lieberman, who is forced to caucus with the Republicans to get any committee assignments, and ends up a Republican hero when he stands with the GOP on three critical filibusters that lose a few RINOs. (Note: 56 elected Dems –> 57 when Democrat Janet Napolitano replaces McCain with a Democrat.)
((Alternate electoral scenario: McCain loses with narrow margins in several close states, where the margin is substantially lower than the number of fraudulent votes cast.
McCain’s personal experience with electoral fraud is as transformative as his earlier experience with corrupt money in politics. He devotes the rest of his senate career to cleaning up elections.
The McCain-Clinton electoral reform act of 2009 is a profound improvement of our electoral system, and results in Hillary Clinton’s victory in the 2012 Democratic Primary. Palin-Petraeus ’12 narrowly beats Clinton for the White House.))

I see it as McCain 280 EV’s with The One getting 258. Maverick picks up PA, NV, OH, NC along with the non-swing red states.
OldeSCfan on November 3, 2008 at 11:01 AM
I think we can stipulate that anyone supporting Obama this election can hardly be called “slightly liberal.”
wccawa on November 3, 2008 at 11:01 AM
I keep thinking that PUMA’s are overly factored in but…
They know that if Barry wins, Hillary will never be president.
I have to believe that offsets extra black voting, so it comes down to moderate vs. extreme liberal.
It would be a quantum shift in this countrys politics to go hard left-even Clinton knew enough to tack to the center.
Obama never got to 51-52 percent in reliable polls.
OK , here I go-
The popular vote is too close to call- less than a million nationally
McCain draws the inside straight across the center- Colorado, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia.
Holds Florida , NC.
Media refuses to call the election when their guy doesn’t win -McCain better be prepared for that and Obama refusing to concede.Replay of 2000?
I believe the Obama/Acorn cabal is specifically targeting Ohio to achieve this.
jjshaka on November 3, 2008 at 11:01 AM
McCain by just enough. 271….electoral votes

Newsflash… liberal ideology… socialist tendencies… fascist rule… were all outside the founding ideals of America.
Conservatism has been the American way since 1776. Fiscal conservatism, low taxes, small government, strong defense, capitalism, rights to life, liberty, and happiness, Obama is the exact opposite.
