My Predictions

posted at 11:20 am on November 3, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Earlier, Allahpundit gave his predictions for the national race.  I’m a bit more optimistic, especially given the movement over the last few days, but I’m more or less a born optimist anyway.  I think John McCain will win a squeaker over Barack Obama, 273-265, by holding Florida, Nevada, and adding Pennsylvania as a trade for Virginia:

Note that I leave Minnesota in the blue column today, despite the virtual dead heat Survey USA shows in its final polling.  As Jazz Shaw and James Joyner note, the RCP average shows Obama significantly ahead, but they include the Strib’s MinnPoll that routinely overstates Democratic strength.  The same poll has Al Franken ahead of Norm Coleman by four points.  Because of its structure, the RCP average lags on movement, and Survey USA shows some movement towards Republicans here — but I don’t think this is the election that moves Minnesota to the red column after 36 years of going blue.

I don’t think this is the election that puts Florida in the blue column, either, or Nevada.  Early-vote polling didn’t show enough of an advantage for Obama, and now Republicans will make up the majority of poll-goers in both states.  It really comes down to Virginia and Pennsylvania, and a split can favor either candidate.  I think Pennsylvania has a real shot at going red, and Virginia’s a toss-up at this point.  GOTV will make a difference, but so will those undecideds — and as I’ve said before, if that many people still haven’t made up their mind to vote Obama, then I expect most of them to take the safe fall-back position of McCain.

The Senate and the House look like a lock for Democrats, however.  I expect to see a 57-43 split in the upper chamber, counting the independent caucusers for the Dems.  In the House, Pelosi will marginally increase her majority to 237-198.  There are just too many open Republican seats in this election, regardless of the narrowing of the generic Congressional balloting.

Win, lose, or draw, however, I’ll be broadcasting election results live at AM 1280 The Patriot tomorrow from 8-11 pm CT.  We’ll have live chat and live video broadcasting during the returns.  Be sure to tune in right here at Hot Air, where we will celebrate the finale of the most remarkable presidential election in my lifetime!

That is the potential disaster situation. Obama wins the popular vote by a good margin and McCain wins the Electoral Vote. Stay inside for a few days….

joest73 on November 3, 2008 at 3:02 PM

Obama carries NY, CA, Oregon, Washington, big, that is practically enough to assure a popular vote win (along with close elections in the other states)

right2bright on November 3, 2008 at 3:26 PM

Here’s a long shot:
It’s 269 tie until Northern Maine goes to McCain becasue of Our Sarah; thereby giving McCain 270.

EconomicNeocon on November 3, 2008 at 3:17 PM

You’re being too nice to it. This is the “let’s heal the world” nonsense that Obamabots post on the PUMA sites, also part of the “Obama is inevitable, let’s all just get along” shtick. An Obama campaign worker leaked their MO, now we just stomp on them for fun.

Fortunata on November 3, 2008 at 3:29 PM

From Ramussen:Like Reagan, Obama’s tax-cutting message became the single most visible part of his campaign and 31% of voters expect their taxes to decline if the Democrat wins tomorrow. Only 11% expect a tax-cut with a McCain victory.

I had a far better opinion about Scott Rasmussen. Another desilusion.

clemycali on November 3, 2008 at 3:30 PM

McCain 274 (49%)
Obama 264 (49%)

McCain wins every state Bush won in 2000.

Bravesbill on November 3, 2008 at 3:32 PM

31% of voters expect their taxes to decline if the Democrat wins tomorrow.

But how many expect them to increase? That would be the real thing, we don’t vote for tax cuts, we vote against tax increases.

Fortunata on November 3, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Praying for McCain/ Palin. Don’t have the heart to count EVs.
Obama should not be the first black president.
One of these men or women in the WoT/Iraq/Afghanistan should be.

The far NE voting for the far NW — I like it.

silverfox on November 3, 2008 at 3:36 PM

The map looks pretty good… I”m still a little uneasy about attributing Virginia’s 13 to Barry… but I guess the likelihood of Barry scoring Virginia is as likely as Mac pulling in Pennsylvania’s 21…

I think Virginia and Florida will be telling, as it will reflect the general accuracy of polling thus far.

What state do people think will reflect overall electoral success??

savant on November 3, 2008 at 3:38 PM

And when McCain wins, I want to meet “manly rash” who has been my shining beacon for the past 6 weeks. – kelley in virginia on November 3, 2008 at 1:24 PM

Manly Rash is reclusive drunkard who despises small animals and little children. Unless you plan on delivering a case of scotch, stay the hell off the lawn.

Other than that, thank you for support – but now is not the time for adulation. Worship me tomorrow night after McCain wins the election.

Get out there and get out the vote. Call friends and family. Talk to neighbors. Friends don’t let friends vote for Obama.

Make it happen. Deliver VA for J-Mac and Arctic Fox Let’s bring this shit HOME, Kelley.

ManlyRash on November 3, 2008 at 3:54 PM

All of the polls are one sided guys…. Not looking good…. – joest73 on November 3, 2008 at 3:47 PM

Meh. I said as much last week. Ignore the polls. Ignore the Drive-By media. Instead, get out the vote. Call friends and family. Make sure everyone votes for McCain.

Stop dithering over the stupid polls and make it happen.

ManlyRash on November 3, 2008 at 3:56 PM

I feel awful that New Mexico is blue for Obama.

We delivered the state for Bush in 04, after weeks of counting.

Blame the idiots in the northern part of the state, Albuquerque and Sante Fe and the illegal aliens that are allowed to vote here.
They never met a freebie they didn’t like up there.

HornetSting on November 3, 2008 at 3:58 PM

Well, looking at this electoral map, a McCain win really is quite doable…However, I doubt we take Pennsylvannia but we will take Virginia, Iowa and Colorado…

Yes Indeed, we do have a chance…

Now please get out there and vote…do it for this Conservative Canuck!!!

Albertanator on November 3, 2008 at 3:58 PM

Tonight and all day tomorrow I will choose to stand and fight for the kind of country I want to raise my three children in. If Mac somehow loses, there will be plenty of time to make “Palin/Jindal 2012″ bumper stickers next week. Enough with the doom and gloom! For the next 36 hours, my singular focus is throwing Johnny Mac’s 75 yr old ass on my back and carrying him past the finish line. Phone calls, door-to-door, family, friends, spread the word. We need to stop bitching about polls and media coverage, about it not being “fair”. We are AMERICANS, get off your ass and act like it. STAND AND FIGHT FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND THE AMERICAN WAY.

kriscoleman on November 3, 2008 at 4:01 PM

All of the polls are one sided guys…. Not looking good….

No, they are not looking good. And I simply can’t understand how on Earth the independents break up again for Obama? What changed from Sunday to Monday? What did he do or said to chenge their mind? It’s crazy. I feel we are fighting a loosing battle.
I’m in tears. I called people, I pray, what can I do more? I’d like to vote but I can’t.

clemycali on November 3, 2008 at 4:08 PM

Mcguyver’s update @4:08 P.M.

I see a commenter” thinks I’m silly..

Let me reiterate this and use California as an example because McCain was the primary favorite there.

Now first, let’s throw in the Hillary supporters…. what do you guess.. 20% of them?

Give me a number.

Remember, Hillary won the primaries after the Jeremiah tape surfaced, except for the Texas caucus portion.

How many “socialists” surprises have we learned about Obama since then? give me a number…

Obama would not have won Iowa, or the Texas caucus if it were a closed primary, because when you have to audibly call your vote out loud, you don’t want to be considered a racist
(I have blogged about this before in other posts here and the same goes for Huckabee the evangelical vs. Romney the Mormon).

Now throw in the voters who absolutely were not voting for McCain even in CA…. and throw in the passion that Palin added.
Now, you can count on the Republicans that were not voting for McCain in the general election, to now be motivated to vote for the Palin/McCain ticket.

Now, reread THE ABOVE….

…who has been losing, losing, losing and losing more and more support?

Who has been adding support and adding more base support, process repeat, repeat again?

Mcguyver on November 3, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Mcguyver

If you are right when you say

…who has been losing, losing, losing and losing more and more support?
Who has been adding support and adding more base support, process repeat, repeat again?

how can you explain Obama’s big lead in the polls? It makes no sense. For me, with all honestly, I start to believe that the PUMA movements its an ilusion, an urban legend. I tended to believe in it while the polls were showing some momentum for McCain, right now I am not so sure about it. It makes no sense, the maths does not add up.

clemycali on November 3, 2008 at 4:14 PM

Well, doesn’t seem to be a lot of support for my “let’s work together even if Obama wins”. And I say if, so you guys will stay calm.

But at least we can all admit how refreshing it is to see all the young and African American people who have largely stayed out of the political process get a chance to vote in record numbers and have their voices heard. I mean the great thing about the US is how one poor black single mom’s vote can count EXACTLY as much as a highly-educated white man’s? Or even more depending if she lives in a swing state?
Don’t you love that?

Uncle_Aina on November 3, 2008 at 4:16 PM

No, they are not looking good. And I simply can’t understand how on Earth the independents break up again for Obama? What changed from Sunday to Monday? What did he do or said to chenge their mind? It’s crazy. I feel we are fighting a loosing battle.
I’m in tears. I called people, I pray, what can I do more? I’d like to vote but I can’t.

Why can’t you vote? All we can do is VOTE and make sure everyone we know that supports McCain VOTES!

Since they never call the same people you’ll never get identical numbers. It could be that nothing changed since yesterday… they are in the margin of error.

I just don’t understand how there could be 9% undecideds this late in the game? Will IBD release a poll tonight without undecideds?

joest73 on November 3, 2008 at 4:19 PM

I like Ed’s map better than Allah’s.

With all of the voter fraud, does anyone actually think this will be a valid election? ACORN needs to disappear! Even the F.E.C. claims not to have oversight of voter fraud and if a candidate is qualified or not. One person, one vote, valid I.D. required and end all absentee voting except for the Military and infirm.

Sno-Bama = 257 ECV

I’m doing my part and voting to make it so!

Liberty or Death on November 3, 2008 at 4:32 PM

For all you AP-like pessimists, check out the large number of undecided voters in the polls you’e reading. The undecideds are already breaking McCain’s way, and there’s more than enough of them to deliver the election to Mac and Sarah.

If you feel you want to do your part, then volunteer to drive people to the polls. Call your local Republican office and offer your services. Or, if you live in a state that is safely in McCain’s column, log onto http://www.johnmccain.com and go to the “phone bank” option. There, you will be given a script and lists of people to call in battleground states. Don’t just sit there – act NOW!!!!!

uncalheels on November 3, 2008 at 4:33 PM

These predictions are shockingly close to what I believe will happen. Personally I just don’t think the demographics have changed since 2000… so this race is going to be very similar to the last two. It will come down to Pa in my opinion… we will see.

Here’s my post discussing why I don’t think the demographics have changed.

thecollegepolitico on November 3, 2008 at 4:49 PM

My prediction (as if it matters, but maybe it’s interesting):
Obama/Biden: 242
McCain/Palin: 296

I put Florida, Virginia, Nevada, Colorada, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania in McCain’s column.
I put Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa in Obama’s.
I’d like to see Missouri go to McCain. I’d like to see part of Maine’s EV go to McCain; let’s throw in NH, too.
I made these picks on Oct. 30, and haven’t changed them.

Cindy of TX on November 3, 2008 at 4:49 PM

clemycali on November 3, 2008 at 4:14 PM

Read my whole post, friend.

The polls are very, very skewed and heavily weighted towards Democrats and undecideds.

There is a 60 – 80% refusal rate to be polled.

Just remember that and think about it.

Never before in history has that happened and so therefore there are no models to compare with.

Mcguyver on November 3, 2008 at 4:49 PM

I made 300 calls on the johnmccain.com phone bank this weekend. NO! I didn’t talk to 300 people, but I can tell you this: those people who were for Obama practically yelled it at me! There was no wishy-washy with them. They cannot contain themselves and were quite nasty. They’ve alraedy decided don’t you get it? Furthermore, I believe they’ve already voted because The Big O told them to. Many Obama people have already voted. I had a few McCain supporters tell me they’ve just been quiet about their support because of what others are saying and doing. They’ve been biding their time and will go vote quietly. Conservative voters usually vote on election day and that’s what I was getting from the people on the phone.

Obama supporters have already declared themselves as Obama supporters! They’ve been giddy with excitement and overwhelming joy at the coming of the Messiah. They’ve been to rallys and they have the bumper stickers to prove it. And they’re vocal. I don’t think for a second that the majority of the “undecideds” are going to break of Obama. I sincerely do not. Obama supporters are ready to make history and they’ve been shouting it from the rooftops. Those that have been sitting back, playing it cool and keeping their toes back are NOT going to quietly go vote for Obama. It won’t work out that way.

I know but it still seems strange for me. I have the feeling that I’m going to watch QVC all day tomorrow. I haven’t felt so heartbroke in a long, long time. Actually from the day I went to my grandmother’s funeral.

clemycali on November 3, 2008 at 4:52 PM

Rasmussen state polls released today confirm that undecideds are breaking to McCain. Just over the last week McCain has gained 5 points in Florida where he has now taken a 1 point lead over Obama. He has also gained 4 points in Ohio and is now tied there with Obama.

technopeasant on November 3, 2008 at 4:53 PM

McCain’s internal polling has him leading in NJ by 4 and in PA. He’s competitive in IA, MI, and MN. Neither is VA in the bag for Obama as the national polls are claiming it is. Internal polls also tell McCain he’s behind by only a point or so in CA of all places.

Yes, you can say these numbers in the internal polls done by McCain pollsters are overly optimistic.

And I would counter when was the last time people that did national media polls got fired or couldn’t find work after an election because they were way off? Campaign pollsters HAVE to get it right to stay employed in the field, and nobody is supposed to see their numbers except the campaign itself while the campaign is going on, so they are not trying to shape or sway public opinion the way national media polls do.

McCain is fighting hard in states the national polls have colored SOLID BLUE like PA, IA, VA and CO because he knows he can still win them. And apparently, so does Obama, because he’s spending more time in blue states the past week playing defense while making only brief appearances in red-leaning states like Indiana and MO.

manofaiki on November 3, 2008 at 4:54 PM

FURTHERMORE, remember when many of us switched our voter registrations so we could vote for Hillary in Op Chaos? I bet you $100 the pollsters took the increased DEM registration based on Op Chaos as their basis for polling more DEMS than GOPs. Don’t you all remember the big news about people changing their registrations in droves? I think the media read it as though people were displeased with GOPs, but they had to have known it was all about Op Chaos. Well, it skewed the registration tally and it skewed the polls.

Oink on November 3, 2008 at 4:56 PM

manofaiki on November 3, 2008 at 4:54 PM

Mark my words… if McCain wins this thing, the pollsters and the media WILL blame racism for Obama’s loss. It will be a Bradley effect on steriods. It will NOT be their fault and the American conservative right will be left to defend themselves. Don’t bet against me.

Oink on November 3, 2008 at 4:59 PM

joest73 on November 3, 2008 at 3:47 PM

Ya know, I don’t read the polls. They’re just a fancy way of systematically predictin’ whats gonna happen. Plus every poll is in the tank for Obama.

lolwut on November 3, 2008 at 5:02 PM

This whole thing is hard to imagine. It is very difficult to understand how anyone with even a “partial” brain could ever support Obama. He is a very liberal socialist, he confuses “welfare checks” with tax cuts, he wants Washington to control everything, he wants to raise most peoples taxes and he has much less actual experience than the republican VP. With these credentials it is obvious that the MSM has outdone themselves for this election. I forgot to mention, with Obama’s associates I doubt if he could get a security clearance for any job below president.

Here’s my post discussing why I don’t think the demographics have changed.

I was born in Johnstown, PA, lived in Pittsburgh for a while and now I live in York, PA. I have been telling people since mid-summer that PA may be the FL and Ohio of this election. PA will be close, very close and McCain may win PA. I worry about Florida though…

joest73 on November 3, 2008 at 5:13 PM

In the Senate, if the Dems get to 56 seats, Lieberman get’s tossed from his chairs (like Hapless Harry hasn’t already telegraphed it) and I say he breaks with the Dem caucus once and for all. Not saying that he’ll switch parties, rather, he’ll drop the Democrat from his “Independent Democrat” label and caucus with the GOP…unless, of course, McCain wins.

Then, I expect the confirmation of either AG Lieberman or DHS Liberman sometime in Feb.

My prediction: AG Joe Lieberman, GOP gains an interim seat in the Senate from CT, probably Shays and 56-44 Senate, unless your splits predict Landreux holding on in LA. I’m picking Kennedy to snatch that seat, in which case it’s 55-45.

SuperCool on November 3, 2008 at 5:17 PM

I mostly agree with this. I think, however, McCain will carry Virginia and lose Nevada.

Jawinka on November 3, 2008 at 5:21 PM

This may have been said, but I think that Virginia will go red.

Virginians vote one of two ways: conservative, or really conservative. Ignore the little “D”s in front of some Old Dominion politician’s names; it’s a conservative state. VA Dems are like MA Republicans – they bear little relation to the national version of their own party and are more like the opposition than anything else.

I also think that CO will go for Obama – just knowing the hard-core evangelicals in the state will go for Sarah Palin, and the Human Life Amendment will also draw them out. Then, with VA and CO in McCain’s column, he can lose PA and still win a squeaker.

to the opinion of an “insider” on the Quinn and Rose Radio Show. I listen to Quinn every day but he is the Art Bell of right wing talk.

The 60 – 80% refusal rate is a concern but I would think they try to maintain the % for each polling group.

Also if I was one of the second rate polling companies I would maybe want to skew my polls to be the contrarian, and show the underdog winning. That is how Zogby is where it is today….

I am a Michelle Malkin poster, but finally made it here. 10% of me thinks McCain will win (we voted early here in TX), but the rest of me thinks BO will win. SCARY. I come from a communist country, so this is freaking me out. My one consolation, if BO wins, it may be good for conservatives (which used to be my position right after McCAin won the primary and was forced on us by about 33% of the voters). If BO wins, he will be horrid, when the hounds of hell (libs) are unleashed and when the god of the godless fails miserably, as he is likely to do, people will turn on the hell hounds in 4 years, if not even 2 (next congressional election). Then, we can tell the Rinos: Every time you elitists put on a rino, we lose. Lt’s kick Rinos out, put in conservatives who can actually SPEAK and FIGHT. I am tired of WIMPS on our side. when the dems were the minority, they kicked and screamed and lied and when the rinos did not contradict them, people began to believe the lies. Where are the loud folks on our side? I am so frustrated. I don’t think I can stand to watch this tomorrow.

rrobin on November 3, 2008 at 5:40 PM

My predictions–

McCain/Palin: 272
Obama/Biden: 266

I am banking on coal states breaking for McCain after the flap over the SF Chronicle interview. Also I am calling Florida for our side; I am hopeful Obama’s position on Israel will hurt him among Jewish voters in South Florida.

Arkansas is solidly red, BTW. I don’t know why CNN even has it in play. For every Obama/Biden sign in someone’s yard around here, there are 10 more with McCain/Palin signs. These PUMAs have long memories and short tempers.

NoLeftTurn on November 3, 2008 at 5:40 PM

profitsbeard on November 3, 2008 at 5:38 PM

My point is that those internal polls suck if it shows Mac up 4 in Jersey; when he really has no shot there.

lorien1973 on November 3, 2008 at 5:41 PM

profitsbeard on November 3, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Defeinitely!

Why bother voting at all. The voting machines are rigged by rethuglikkkans!

lorien1973 on November 3, 2008 at 5:42 PM

Another worrisome matter: the fraudulent voter registrations and voter fraud. The dems are so evil, they purposefully spent lost of $$$ to get lib secretary of states, so they can steal the election if needed. Why didn’t the republicans see this coming? Why republicans so naive, so wimpy, so lame? I am as mad at them as I am at the libs. We have one fighter in the Congress, Michelle Bachmann (sp?) and the RNC has thrown her under the bus, so she is now likely to lose.

immigrantchick on November 3, 2008 at 5:43 PM

I’m not usually all that optimistic, but I just can’t believe the American people are as idiotic and/or naiive as the poll numbers suggest. I know they aren’t socialistic.

I’d turn Virginia, Minnesota and Colorado red on your map. Possibly more.

Sign of the Dollar on November 3, 2008 at 5:43 PM

Anyone here voting for Nader? Just wondering. I’m not, just hoping I can bring you over from the dark side :)

Although if BHO wins, Nader supporters should be STOKED by all the lawsuits they can bring against ‘big business’, right? Though I suspect those businesses will cease to exist on US shores shortly thereafter…oh well. Good thing I’ve clinged to my guns, may need to hunt for my food shortly…

Biffstir on November 3, 2008 at 5:44 PM

Well hope is really all we’ve got at this point. So hope it is… and faith that whatever happens–our good and generous country will find it’s way.

My wishful map looks about like Ed’s but I trade Virginia and Nevada.

Honestly, I don’t really believe all those polls could be so wrong! What is the difference in undecideds this year over past years? Whatever that difference is, is probably McCain’s hidden vote.

I’m gonna LMAO if McCain wins and the Dems scream voter fraud. Guess all of their dead voters were busy. :)

teffertoes on November 3, 2008 at 5:48 PM

It’ll be a squeaker, tight right to the line. What does that really say about Obama? It’s a mess, but it won’t be a ‘landslide’ or ‘blowout,’ regardless of what the media would have us believe.

TinMan13 on November 3, 2008 at 5:52 PM

OTOH, count on the midterms to be a slaughter if ‘O’ and the left have their field day.

TinMan13 on November 3, 2008 at 5:53 PM

McCain’s internal polling showed up by 4 in NJ. Not only that, perhaps you missed where I also said it showed him trailing by a single point in CA?

And within the margin of error in Mich and Minn?

manofaiki on November 3, 2008 at 5:54 PM

Immigrant chick
well said. and welcome.
I’m MNUSMCDavid over at MM….

MNDavenotPC on November 3, 2008 at 5:58 PM

I think there’s a good chance that Obama wins the popular vote but loses to McCain in the EC. If that happens you can bet that the MSM will start hounding McCain to step aside “for the good of the country.” That’ll be the new narrative.

rsrobinson on November 3, 2008 at 6:00 PM

Barack Hussein Obama attended the 1995 Million Man March of Lous Farrakhan. Lous Farrakhan, who said that “Hitler was a great man”…. “a very great man”, he said. In fact, when Jewish leaders compared him to Hitler because he kept saying that the Jews deserved a Holocaust, and that the Jews deserved to be exterminated,… when Jewish leaders compared him to Hitler, he took it as a compliment! He said, and I quote, “I like when the Jews compare Farrakhan to Hitler. Hitler was a great man. Hitler was a very great man”. And Lous Farrakhan says that all whites are devils and were created in a test tube by the evil scientist Yacub. This is literally what he teaches. And that the late and unlamented Elijah Muhammad is flying a space ship over the United States, it’s called the “Mother Ship”,… and as soon as Allah gives the signal the entire white race is gonna be sicked up into the space ship and be exterminated. This is what he teaches. He calles it the Mother Ship. And this Nazi, phsycotic, dimented, piece of garbage, Louis Farrakhan, has rallies where Barack Hussein Obama attends — honouring Louis Farrakhan. These are the types of rallies Barack Hussein Obama attends. I ask you,… ” This is the individual that all the newspapers that you read or the vast majority, are supporting for President?! This is whom the American people are considering making President of the United States!!” This is insane. If Barack Hussein Obama is elected President, America is finished. I’d like to be optimistic, but if he wins forget about it. You can throw my optimism out the window. I think America is finished.

apacalyps on November 3, 2008 at 6:12 PM

My Fellow Americans,

Here in these final hours before we choose our next President, I ask you to pray for John McCain and Sarah Palin not just to win, but win soundly.

We have witnessed unprecedented and unwarranted attacks on our candidates, as well as a new standard on bias in the mainstream media.

The McCain/Palin platform is as imperfect as the candidates themselves, but in light of how dedicated Bush haters are to putting into office a man who not only wouldn’t be qualified to be his own bodyguard due to his damaging relationships, and from everything we’ve seen speaks an economic and socialist language no true American would or should comprehend, your vote and your prayers are vital to ensuring our freedom and way of life.

Barack Obama must not win this election. Pray that he doesn’t.

God Bless You All, and God Bless America.

McCain may win PA. I worry about Florida though…

joest73 on November 3, 2008 at 5:13 PM

Do not worry about Florida. We’re not going blue this year. :)

I think McCain has a very good chance of winning PA and OH which, added to Florida, means victory!

Kirin on November 3, 2008 at 6:15 PM

Here’s a long shot:
It’s 269 tie until Northern Maine goes to McCain becasue of Our Sarah; thereby giving McCain 270.

Lostinbluema on November 3, 2008 at 3:27 PM

Hey down here in Oxford Maine we’re pretty red.
I was actually confused today. Susan Collins is currently beating the snot of Tom Allen in the polls. Collins is pretty much a McCain clone as is Allen a Obama clone. So why is every one so against McCain in other parts of the state?

scrubbiedude on November 3, 2008 at 6:17 PM

Put a sock in it, eeyore. Get off your duff and work hard for McCain. Make calls, send emails. At the very least, you can post words of encouragement. Crying in your milk does nothing for anyone, least of all for McCain who, in site of the likes of you, will nevertheless be elected president tomorrow.

ManlyRash on November 3, 2008 at 6:25 PM

My point is that those internal polls suck if it shows Mac up 4 in Jersey; when he really has no shot there. – lorien1973 on November 3, 2008 at 5:41 PM

I live in New Jersey. Don’t be to sure that he has no chance. You are going to see lots of surprises tomorrow.

ManlyRash on November 3, 2008 at 6:26 PM

I dunno ManlyRash, that light you see at the end of the tunnel sure sounds a lot like a train. – Murphy9 on November 3, 2008 at 5:28 PM

LOL. Nah. No train…just victory tomorrow. Help make it happen, Murph. You can do it. Vote for McCain.

ManlyRash on November 3, 2008 at 6:28 PM

I’ld make CO red also.. My anadotal reason is the lack of Obama car stickers in Boulder County. Four years ago Kerry had 9 out of 10 cars. This year only 1-10 cars have Obama stickers… Go figure.

RichardS on November 3, 2008 at 6:30 PM

Like your map we can only pray.I think N.H. may be in play also

thmcbb on November 3, 2008 at 6:38 PM

Obama = 344
McCain = 194

Mark Garnett on November 3, 2008 at 6:45 PM

Read my whole post, friend.

The polls are very, very skewed and heavily weighted towards Democrats and undecideds.

There is a 60 – 80% refusal rate to be polled.

Just remember that and think about it.

Never before in history has that happened and so therefore there are no models to compare with.

Mcguyver on November 3, 2008 at 4:49 PM

Never met an Obama supporter that wasn’t proud to say it.

I think Op Chaos played hell with polling models. It caused the pollsters to weight the DEMS too heavily. In hindsight that obviously didn’t help us too much.

Oink on November 3, 2008 at 6:47 PM

Virginia’s a toss-up? Are you s*$!ing me? If Virginia votes for Obama, then I will change my license plate from “DEOVNDCE” to “LINCOLN”.

You know what troll… I have no idea how it will turn out tomorrow. But I do know this… Obama might win (but he might not). If he does, that just tells me that misguided, uninformed, Kool-Aid drinkers outnumber the rest of us.

I still know I’m right in what I stand for.

Oink on November 3, 2008 at 6:51 PM

Ed,

I’d be a little more impressed with your prognostication skills if I knew you had money down over at http://www.intrade.com

By midnight tomorrow, I’ll be either out a grand or looking at pocketing $10K.

By the way, I have McCain to win.

Good luck,

patch on November 3, 2008 at 6:58 PM

I put Florida, Virginia, Nevada, Colorada, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania in McCain’s column.
I put Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa in Obama’s.
I’d like to see Missouri go to McCain. I’d like to see part of Maine’s EV go to McCain; let’s throw in NH, too.
I made these picks on Oct. 30, and haven’t changed them.

Cindy of TX

Cindy,

Missouri is going for McCain. He has been slightly ahead and expect him to take this state.

Iowa is the real toss up in this race. Watch that state to see how close this election is really going to be.

I don’t think Colorado or NMex is going for McCain- too many dems there.

I’m still not sure about Penn I think it’s wishful thinking trying to overcome the numbers in the east side. Who knows maybe this coal issue will sway enough dems on the west side.

This will be a squeeker for sure! I’m doing as much as I can to do GOTV here in Missouri just to make sure.

Ronaldusmaximus on November 3, 2008 at 6:59 PM

> Manly Rash is reclusive drunkard who despises small animals and little children.

A base canard even though he typed it himself. Fact — he likes small animals (for dinner) and little children (more fun than Battling Tops).

SunSword on November 3, 2008 at 7:07 PM

Pretty much what I had although Mac may still get Virginia.

From your fingers to God’s ears!!

Gina on November 3, 2008 at 7:18 PM

I can’t believe Ed Rollins, the Republican strategist. He’s now saying that the GOP ground game of GOTV is minimal at best compared to 2000 and 2004 while Rick Davis says on Saturday that the GOP effort with its volunteers and phone banks are better than they were in 2004. So as the polls show extreme polarity so do the opinions of two Republican strategists. Ed also claims that Obama’s ground game is the best that he has ever seen. Even Michelle Obama could not gush over Barack with as much enthusiasm as Ed was doing. It was nauseating just sitting there watching him on CNN.

technopeasant on November 3, 2008 at 7:19 PM

I’ll average your wildly optimistic 273 electoral votes with Allah’s pessimistic 220 votes. It is still a landslide for Obama.

We need to immediately purge the corrupted and liberal from the GOP ranks to ever have a prayer of winning again. Palin delineates clear differences between her and the Democrats. McCain still sounds like a Democrat.

Monkei on November 3, 2008 at 7:26 PM

The “CA within 1″ is not as far fetched as first glance would have it. After all, we did elect Ar-no-lid, twice. And the first time he wasn’t recognized as RINO.
Having CA go red would be delicious. And a start to undoing many years of Dem legislature.

Go McCain!

Sickening. This is EXACTLY what America is all about, exercising their free right to vote for whom they wish.

You and your kind are not the only American’s in the room.

Bush was not a socialist; Bush did not take money from the taxpayers to pay off the parasitic underclass for their votes; Bush did not make deals with tyrants; Bush did not raise our taxes; Bush did not threaten or right to bear arms and carry concealed weapons; etc’, etc., etc., . . .etc.

rplat on November 3, 2008 at 7:33 PM

However I do hope that some of you calling him Obami or whatever hateful thing, will realize that this is a Democracy and that this is a critical time to end divisiveness. I’m sure some of you will attack me on this, but hopefully some others will see the wisdom in it.

Uncle_Aina on November 3, 2008 at 2:43 PM

You first.

I endured 8 years of hate-filled rants against Reagan and another 8 of insane burblings about W Bush. I have been unable to have a civil face-to-face conversation with a liberal in decades. The kicker was watching what Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid think is bi-partisanship this summer over drilling and this fall over the bailout.

If Obama wins — which I truly doubt will happen, unless the voter fraud overcomes the silent McCain supporters — he’ll have two years before he loses Congress. The PUMAs and conservatives will see to that.
