I wonder how many early voters in coal country are now saying “damn, I should have waited!”

This is one of those issues where the fist tier effects (loosing coal jobs) will be dwarfed by the second teir effects: the increased, skyrocketing cost of EVERYTHING else.

Only in America would we shun the largest proven reserves of energy on the planet–our coal. Not only that it is the world cleanest coal to start with. If we allowed the industry through the appropriate tax breaks, incentives to spend the billions necessary to perfect “clean coal” all this related nonsense about energy dependence would disappear. Yes it will take many years but we have to start sometime.

Instead we conjure up cap and trade while embracing global warming/whining and send trillions overseas enslaving our grandchildren.

As a footnote, unless they changed the law, a plant owner who wants to improve his pollution footprint with known technology in a section of his plant is not allowed. If he does he loses his grandfather status on the rest of the plant. This catch 22 makes it economically not feasible to proceed.
